L’univers d’APO oscille entre militantisme puéril et illustration enfantine, pas vraiment de cohérence ni de style défini mais un monde qui lui est propre et qui colle bien avec son esprit dispersé et léger. Tombé dans le graphisme par erreur et sans formation, il poursuit son bonhomme de chemin en navigant entre visuels commerciaux et dessins intimistes, du léger à l’engagé, pas de quoi changer le monde mais juste la volonté de s’exprimer. De quoi remplir des carnets de croquis qui dorment sur des étagères et des dizaines de gigas qui saturent l’espace disque.
L’idée de ce livre, c’est fixer ces visuels sur l’objet pour qu’une fois pour toute ils aient une place et qu’APO puisse enfin passer à autre chose. Sa chance sont des rencontres qui lui ont permis d’apposer ses dessins sur des skates, des skis ou des tee shirts, sa force, une imagination qui n’a de limite que les bords de ces pages qu’il nous propose, sans volonté de donner une leçon, mais bien nous montrer sa vision du monde. Apo’s world rests somewhere between a political activism interited from teenagehood and a somehow childish way of putting images together. His style escapes from coherence or even homogeneity, but rather reflects APO’s untamed spirit. He was not educated nor got a degree in graphic design. Graphic design occured to him gradually as he grew in maturity and self-taught techique. So doing, he started evolving between intimist drawings and commercial shots, ranging from slight-mooded to politically engaged. a space to express himself, so great a need that it filled hundreds of sketchbooks crawling on his shelves or saturated his computer’s hard disk. The idea of this book is to put all these creations together into a concrete form, allowing APO to eventually move onto something new. He met some people who allowed him to apply his drawings on skis, surfboards and tee-shirts. His imagination made the rest, his only limits being the corners of these pages that he gives us to read, not as a will to moralize, but as an open door to his own vision of the world Rodéric Jaïnes
