Hello superheros!

- Chris Abe

from the secretary

I hope the school year is starting off okay for all of you! I know the transition back to school can be extremely tiring (especially after having to shift sleep schedules). Here are some pieces of advice for the upcoming year: Time management and motivation are probably the two most important tools for classes. Being motivated for classes can be hard. You can try to break up bigger projects into smaller, more bearable parts which will keep you motivated and make sure you don’t procrastinate. In general, it’s always helpful to remember why you try in school, whether that be getting into the college of your dreams or personal reasons. By remembering why you try, it can help motivate you to continue to trek through even the most bland homework. For time management, try to prioritize what's more important or due sooner. This is very cliche, but try to remain positive and take the silver lining out of things. Some of the classes I took were pretty hard and my test scores were not the best. Instead of getting incredibly sad, I tried to learn from my mistakes and moved on. Also, try to take time for yourself so you don't burn out. I like to run or volunteer to help clear my mind, but everyone has their own preferences, so do what works for you! FINALLY learn to enjoy the moment. As tedious and as slow as the school days seem, school years go by pretty fast. Although grades are important, they are by no means everything. Enjoy being around your friends and try to take advantage of all the events and opportunities that you have. Looking back, there are definitely some things that I would have liked to have done but I did not because I was not willing to. Take all the chances that you can get! I hope that all of you are as excited as I am for this upcoming term and I hope that some of what I wrote helped you. I look forward to seeing all of you at future events! If you ever need someone to talk to or need some advice, feel free to message me!

shopping chaperones

by Emily Vu

This month, one event I was able to attend was Back to School Shopping Chaperone!! This event was early in the morning but waking up at 5AM was definitely worth it! We were all paired with a kid who needed help shopping to prep for going back to school! My partner was an adorable little girl and it warmed my heart how her face lit up at everything we looked at. She was so sweet and being able to spend my morning with her was such an honor. We were able to buy $160 worth of clothes!! If you ever get the chance to, I highly recommended going to this event because it has easily become one of my favorites! :3

kutz kutz for for kids kids

Kutz for Kidz is an annual event in San Jose in which kids from all over San Jose get a free haircut to start off their school year to gain self-confidence. At this famed event, I witnessed hundreds of kids feeling very joyous with their new fresh cut, which in return, made me want a hair cut as well. Kutz for Kidz was a very unique event; I never before got to experience such a magical environment where barbers happily cut hair for children without pay and were really down to earth with volunteers and the kids. Moreover, I was able to hang out with my friends at the event with one of them getting a free haircut. All in all, the event ran very smoothly and the event coordinators were very kind to us, providing us volunteers with food and even wanting us to volunteer at their other events. I strongly recommend people to come to this event and I will definitely go again.

super super fun fun run run The super fun run was an amazing event to both lead and attend. While attending the event, we were stationed around different parts of the race such as set-up, the mask booth, and the superhero station. We were given the opportunity to dress up as superheroes for the kids to take pictures with which, we could not refuse. Near the end of the race, we all got together to run with the last racer to the finish line! Overall this was a very fun and memorable event and I highly recommend you attend next year! 8

nursery nursery workday workday

Recently, I attended the Nursery Workday event, and it was definitely one of the most fun things I’ve done in a while. I was able to help out at the nursery and bond with fellow Key Club members and officers. The leader was extremely nice and taught us a lot of things about the plants that were kept at the nursery. Overall, the experience was both fun and enlightening.

silicon valley pride Silicon Valley Pride is an event held every year to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community. There are events throughout the two days like guest performances and a pride parade! The morning of the event, we helped set up booths and unload trucks for vendors to start selling in the evening. Although it was a hot and sunny day, I still had fun working with Independence’s Key Club members as well as the coordinators of the event. Everyone was super nice there and I definitely recommend going to this event next year!

by Peter Truong I was a bit late to the August DCM, but that didn't stop me from enjoying the entire thing one bit! After the meeting, we made posters to prep for Mini Club Day and it felt fun working alongside my peers! We also practiced the "2-4-6-8" cheer, which was also a great moment because of how much we messed up on it. However, the highlight of my day were the squirrels that roamed around the area we were in. They were pretty coote <: 11
