Called as “The Capitol Residences”, it is the housing project of the provincial government, in joint venture with Home Development Mutual Fund (HDMF) and Sarangani Land and Development Corporation, which translates the commitment of provincial leaders to provide better shelter through medium grade but affordable housing facility for its employees. The local government unit (LGU) –led housing project was implemented pursuant to Section 8 of Republic Act (RA) 7279 otherwise known as Urban Development and Housing Act in conjunction with Section 17 of RA 7160 also known as the Local Government Code of 1991. HDMF Chief Executive Officer Atty. Darlene Marie Berberabe said there have been a lot of negotiations ongoing nationwide for the PPP housing program for the LGUs but she pointed out Sarangani’s project was yet the first ceremonial turn-over she
witnessed. “Una ko po itong (The Capitol Residences) napuntahan na tunay naman na nakatayo na ang mga bahay, tapos na ang land development, at may take-out na na labing-isang bahay,” Berberabe disclosed. Berberabe said it was the first mandate of Vice President Jejomar Binay to Pag-IBIG, being the chairman of Pag-IBIG housing program, to conceptualize housing programs for LGUs which the latter supported with a campaign last year, but Berberabe said Sarangani implemented its own much ahead. The governor emphasized also that he wanted to leave the housing project as his legacy where all the beneficiaries “build families, will build noble communities.” Dominguez, likewise, anticipated that The Capitol Residences could be a “template where other local government units or agencies of the government can follow as a progressive, innovative way of developing.” This, according to Dominguez, will also signal the start of investment development that would “provide formal, decent and the best housing project in Sarangani and also become a little imperative for the city residents to look at where you can experience fresh air, where you can see Mt. From the total 180 housing units to mortgage with HDMF, 11 beneficiaries constituted the first batch in which HDMF ceremonially turned over to the provincial government its monetary cash equivalent of P4.7 million as its share. Per lot measures 210 square meters land area and 39.24 sq. meters floor area each unit, the advantage beneficiaries get compared to commercial housing units in cities which would range to an average of only 90 to 120 square meters.

Puerto Princesa Underground River is located some 50km north of the city of Puerto Princesa, on Palawan Island in the Philippines. It consists of a limestone karst mountain landscape, several large chambers containing significant formations of stalactites and stalagmites, and an 8.2 km.

Following Jeju Island, Puerto Princesa Underground River is the second to be confirmed on a preliminary basis, as New7Wonders has now completed the telephone voting validation in the Philippines. The remaining five provisional New7Wonders of Nature are currently undergoing the three steps of the verification process, namely the national voting validation, the global voting calculation confirmation by an independent audit firm, and the preparation and implementation of the Official Inauguration ceremonies. Department of Social Welfare and Development 12 Regional Director Zorahayda Taha said, this amount was used as cash grants for 148,660 householdbeneficiaries of the Philippine government’s premiere anti-poverty initiative, Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps). This funds were directly given to the beneficiaries, she said. “To date, we are covering 44 towns and six cities. Just recently, we expanded our coverage to 15 more in Region 12. The government is concern with the condition of our poor and fortunate people,” Taha said. Localities included in the recent expansion include Kidapawan City and the towns of Kabacan, Libungan, Makilala, Midsayap, and M’langin North Cotabato; Tacurong City and Isulan town in Sultan Kudarat Province; Koronadal City, Norala, Polomolok, Surallah, Tampakan, Tantangan,and Tupi in South Cotabato.

DSWD 12 aims to enlist at least 96,695 households from these expansion areas, Taha said. Through the conditional cash transfers program, the national government provides subsidies to the poorest of the poor households in the country identified through the National Household Targeting System for Poverty Reduction (NHTS-PR). These cash grants are subject to conditions, including requiring children to go to school regularly, mothers to visit their local health facilities, and attendance to meetings of community organizations. Under the CCT program each household-
beneficiary received a monthly allowance of P500 for basic food needs. Additional P300 is also given for every child (up to 14 years old) who goes to school; a maximum of three children can get the allowance. In his visit to the Philippines late last year, World Bank Group president Robert B. Zoellick has backed proposals to expand the government’s food subsidy program for the lowestincome Filipino households, saying that economic growth should benefit the poor. Taliño-Mendoza, during the turn-over ceremony, said that the program aims to help farmers recover from the loss brought about by the devastating flood. “Farmers are the ones most affected during times of calamities and this is our way helping them start over again,” she said. Dr. Kibtiya Uddin, of CHO said, of the 13 cases registered, two are females and 11 are males with ages 19 to 42 years old. Uddin said that the most common method of transmission of the dreadful disease is the so called “male to male” sex, from which nine cases were traced to be its cause. Uddin clarified that the total number of cases recoded includes transients who come in and out of Zamboanga City. The city government is strict on its monitoring of workers like guest relations officers (GROs) and other “night workers” through regular medical checkup, Uddin informed. The city is also active in its advocacy campaign against HIV/AIDS and gives annual HIV education to the ladies (GROs) and AIDS examination. Meanwhile, Department of Health (DOH) Assistant Secretary Eric Tayag recently expressed alarmed over an increase of HIV/
AIDS case reported in the month of December 2011 alone which has peaked to 268 as compared to 174 during the same period in 2010. Tayag said many of the reported cases are already in its advance stage and that 60 percent of the new cases were in 20-29 years old age bracket. (JPA/PIA -ZBST)

DOE launches best E-Trike design contest nationwide by Claro A. Lanipa PAGADIAN CITY– The Department of Energy (DOE) in collaboration with Philippine Information Agency (PIA) launched a nationwide contest for the best E-Trike Design with the aim to generate 2D and 3D computer-aided drawings of the best aesthetic and functional design for the future Philippine E-Trike look (AutoCAD). The E-Trike must have a basic design that can accommodate a maximum of six (6) passengers excluding the driver and must be a threewheeled electric vehicle. Examples of three-wheeled electric vehicles can be viewed at DOE website, www.doe. gov.ph. These three-wheeled electric vehicles are now being deployed in some local government units (LGUs) and are shown to provide easy reference to the design contestants. However, all designs for the contest must be original, new and have not been used for commercial or demonstration purposes. The contest is open to all Filipino citizens of legal age (18 years old and above), whether individual or group residing in the Philippines. Interested participants must fillup completely the Official Registration Form that can be downloaded at DOE website or at PIA website www. pia.gov.ph. The same weather condition will also be experienced in the Visayas and Southern Luzon. The rest of Luzon will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies except for isolated light rains while the rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms. Moderate to strong winds blowing from the Northeast will prevail over Visayas and Luzon and the coastal waters along these areas will be moderate to rough. Elsewhere, winds will be moderate coming from the East and
Northeast with moderate seas. Thus, the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC), region 10, has called on the local DRRMC to warn the residents in the coastal areas to continue their guard against possible rise in coastal waters. Likewise, fishing boats and other small sea crafts in the region are advised to take precautionary measures before going out into the sea. Regional Director Ana Caňeda of the Office of Civil Defense (OCD), region 10, who is also the Chairperson of RDRRMC-10, said the local DRRMC’s are reminded to take appropriate pro-active actions to aim for “zero” casualty focused on evacuation, rather than rescue.

Ozamiz CSWD’s cash for training,cash for work program reach P5.62-M in 2011 OZAMIZ CITY, Misamis Occidental - A total of Php5.62 million in rice subsidy was released for the Cash for Training/Cash for Work Program of 1,879 farmers/ fisherfolk beneficiaries in the city, last year. Of this amount, Php2.29 million or 40.75 percent was spent for the rice subsidy of 702 farmers who attended the first batch of a 4-day training on farming skills and on Disaster Management and other relevant topics, Ludie Salud A. Raras, City Social Welfare and Development (CSWD) Officer, said. 2,000 nurses needed in Saudi DAVAO CITY – The Ministry of Health of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is in need of 2,000 female nurses, the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) announced.
POEA Regional Center for Mindanao chief Maria Carolina Agdamag said that the position offers a basic salary of 3,150 Saudi Riyal or about P36,000 based on the latest currency exchange rate.
