Anchored on the theme “Strengthening Local Government Units (LGU) in Housing Delivery and Local Development Planning,” the opening of the Pabahay Caravan was spearheaded by no less than Vice President and HUDCC Chair Jejomar C. Binay. The caravan is the 10th of the series of housing events aimed at reorienting and updating LGU’s on the various housing programs
available, as well, as the roles LGU’s play in the delivery of housing services to their constituents. By making the LGUs aware of our housing programs and services, we will be able to encourage them to work together with the national government in accelerating shelter production and enhancing the delivery of housing services to the people, Binay said. Heads of the government shelter agencies such as the National Housing Authority (NHA), Housing and Land Use Regulatory Board (HLURB), Home Development Mutual Fund (HDMF), Social Housing Finance Corporation (SHFC), and National Home Mortgage Finance Cor-
poration (NHMFC) presented their respective housing programs and services during the twoday housing caravan. Among the topics discussed were the role of LGUs in housing and urban development, as well, as specific housing programs for LGUs, including HDMF’s Group Housing Loan Program, SHFC’s localized community mortgage program, and NHA’s resettlement program. The HLURB also briefed the participants on Comprehensive Land Use Planning (CLUP) and how it can help LGU’s in ensuring rational, ecologically balanced and sustainable development of resources and growth of human settlements.
