Our donors give for so many reasons!
PBS’s strong fundraising program in 2023-2024 is a testament to our community’s unwavering commitment to our core job of educating students. Our community generously contributed $1,008,000 to our Annual Fund and $342,000 to our Spring Benefit for Financial Aid. These results reflect the strength of our partnership and our shared belief in the transformative impact of joyful giving on every student.
PBS donors give for a multitude of reasons and reflect a deep commitment to fostering a Love of Learning, practicing Kindness, building a strong Community, and showing Courage in shared endeavors. Your generosity and support ensure that our students thrive in an environment that values and nurtures these principles. This support includes your financial contributions as well as the invaluable volunteer time and professional expertise that you offer.

Thanks to the generous support of the PBS Annual Fund, the 2023-2024 school year was a period of growth built on our core values. The PBS Annual Fund allowed innovations that included:
Updated Barby Little Science Lab: We reinvigorated the space with flexible furniture to better meet the developmental needs of Kindergartners through 5th Graders, creating an environment that supports dynamic, engaging learning.
Investment in Faculty Development: Over 80 professional development opportunities were provided to our faculty, including courses at the Boulder Journey School, Responsive Classroom advanced training, Orff Schulwerk certification, and the Institute for Social and Emotional Learning, ensuring our educators continue to bring innovative and effective teaching practices to our classrooms.
Enhanced Field Trips: We added educational field trips to locations such as Bing Music Hall, Chabot Space Center, and Francis Beach to even further enhance our curriculum, deepening our students' real-world learning experiences and making classroom concepts come to life.
Addition of Inspiring Community Events including: Latinx/Hispanic Heritage Month Band “IndiviDuo,” Black History Month Living Museum (visiting astrophysicist, computer scientist, and African Drum Group), Lunar New Year Dragon Dance, Holi celebration, and virtual author visit for Arab American Heritage Month.

The Boulder Journey School team back in our Early Learning Center with PBS students who benefit from their Professional Developement!
With the purpose of strengthening connections to the Reggio Emilia-based program that our Early Learning Center provides, members of the ELC team attended a Reggio-based training program in June at the Boulder Journey School in Colorado. ELC Lead Teacher Stephanie Hall-Koester reflects: “The experience was incredibly enriching, offering an in-depth look at an inspirational Reggio program within the USA. The team explored beautifully designed classrooms featuring open-ended toys and manipulatives, providing fresh ideas for provocations in our own ELC spaces.
“Seminars covered various aspects of teaching and curriculum, including one on ‘Dark Play,’ which examined why children are drawn to superhero and villain narratives. Another focused on documentation techniques, emphasizing the importance of guiding play and projects through observations, note-taking, photos, and videos. Year-long projects were also showcased, such as students creating and mapping a play space in a nearby park.
“This Boulder Journey School professional development experience has breathed new inspiration into how we set up our classrooms and engage with students, particularly in fostering exploration and inquiry. Experiences like this are essential for keeping our educators engaged, refreshed, and aligned with our goals in the Early Learning Center program at PBS.”
Through generous donations to the Annual Fund, professional development opportunities such as the Boulder Journey School experience are made possible for our amazing educators.

Dana Doolin, Stan Drake, Scott Erickson, and Margie Tully
The Spring Benefit supported the need-based Financial Aid program at PBS. All funds raised were directed toward this missiondriven priority, channeling the community’s culture of generosity and gathering towards a specific cause. Through this effort, we aim to provide increased support for students who may not have access to the financial resources necessary to fully participate in the PBS experience. We know that this investment has a positive impact on the entire school community, creating greater equity and opportunities for all. Last year ’ s Casino Royale theme brought the community together for an evening of fundraising fun and glamorous casino-style games and celebrated the 115+ years of combined service of Dana Doolin, Stan Drake, Scott Erickson, and Margie Tully.

Spooky sweet treats served with love by PBSA Fall Festival volunteers
The PBSA supported the school’s operations while allowing faculty to focus on what they do best -- educating our students. The PBSA provided opportunities to foster and grow community through sundry events and programs that showcase our school spirit. Last year ’ s efforts included fresh engagement opportunities for families and faculty alike, including the Community Kindness Committee’s Campus Beautification, the Fall Festival (now renamed the PBSA Festival), and the Faculty and Staff Appreciation Committee’s Appreciation in Bloom event, where faculty and staff could create their own custom bouquets to take home! We are all stronger when we come together through friendship and service to the PBSA.
Flowers and smiles blossomed thanks to the PBSA’s Appreciation in Bloom event
In anticipation of generous support, the 2024-2025 PBS Annual Fund is set to drive continued innovation and academic excellence by investing in:
New Faculty Positions: Funding the addition of a Math Associate and a Science Associate to strengthen our students' foundational skills.
Addition of a 3rd Grade Co-Teacher: Expanding our teaching staff to support more differentiated instruction.
Renovation of Learning Spaces: Creating a designated smallgroup learning room to facilitate focused, collaborative learning experiences. Spaces have been updated from top to bottom -new flooring to new paint.
Increased Small-Group Learning Time: Redesigning schedules to create more small-group work to foster deeper learning through differentiation.
Children’s Health Council Partnership: Partnering with CHC to offer on-campus consultations for families, including in-classroom observations to support students’ emotional well-being. CHC will also provide faculty and staff education on many topics, including mental health and speech therapy, ensuring comprehensive support for students in and out of the classroom.
Educating the Whole Family Speaker Series: Fostering family engagement with timely topics relevant to our early childhood and elementary school-aged children.
Inspirational Engineering Manipulatives: Introducing Tubelox, Fort Boards, and more manipulatives to come that elevate student play with deep, innovative engineering thought, inspiring problemsolving skills, and exploration of real-world applications. And so much more!
Together, each year, we create an extraordinary learning environment in which every student and educator can thrive.
