With the release of the reference 5270 in 2011, Patek Philippe ushered in a new era of perpetual calendar chronograph wristwatches with their in-house calibre 29-535 movement. A modern timepiece with a 41mm diameter case and new dial concept, the model straddles both the past and the present, reminiscent of its illustrious past and icons such as the reference 1518, 2499, 3970 and 5970 but frmly rooted in the 21st century. When the reference was frst released in 2011, the silvered dial featured an outer 1/5 seconds track and without tachometer, along with apertures for leap year and day/night indication positioned between the 4 and 5 and 7 and 8 hour markers respectively. This layout allowed the constant seconds and 30-minute register to be lowered below the center horizontal line giving the dial an appealing look. In 2013, Patek Philippe discontinued the frst series dial and released two new models with dial variations. The reference 5270G-0013 with silvered opaline dial and the reference 5270G014 with blue sunburst dial. The present watch is from a limited edition of 50 timepieces celebrating Patek Philippe’s KunstWerkUhr exhibition in Munich in 2013. The exhibition explored the brands tradition in precision watchmaking, along with 500 years of European horology. To commemorate the event, Patek Philippe released limited edition references 5130 and the 5270G. The latter is similar to the regular production perpetual calendar chronograph with the exception that the dial sports a blue outer tachometer scale similar to the frst series watches from 2011. This is only the third example of the model to appear at auction.
