I am very happy being a stay-at-home mom!” Michael Yoon moved to the San Francisco Bay Area almost a year ago to work for the Principal Financial Group, after completing the company’s training program in Baltimore. He says it “would be great to reconnect with anyone in the class located in the Bay Area as well.” Dayo Adewole lives in Philadelphia and is in his second semester in the bioengineering PhD degree program at Penn. “So far, so good!” he reports. Dayo recently found out Penn has a graduate Ultimate Frisbee team and says he’s “looking forward to dusting off the skills from senior spring cluster (once it warms up again).” He’ll be heading up to New York with Hector Kilgoe ’11 to celebrate Anthony White’s birthday. Matt Renner finished his two-year unpaid tattoo apprenticeship in January but will take an indefinite hiatus from tattooing to pursue an opportunity in the food industry. He’s moving back to Rifle, Colo., where he’ll be running a food truck and more than six farmers’ market vendor booths during the summer season. Mat Kelley is currently living in Shanghai. He reports that he, Blaine Johnson ’08, and Stephen Xenakis all met in Shanghai for an Andover dinner that some older alumni put together. Lindsay Hoopes ’99 brought wine from her family’s winery in California. Mat says, “We had a really fabulous dinner together. Awesome to find Andover friends when on this side of the world in China.” Julie Xie recently left her job in journalism to learn UX design and is now looking for gigs in New York. She says she’s “looking forward to getting reacquainted with all the Andover alums in NYC!” Ziwe Fumudoh reports: “Ziwe is chill. She’s having fun chilling. Currently spends all her time working at Above Average and freelancing at the Onion and the Daily Dot.” Lily Shaffer graduated from Pitzer with degrees in environmental analysis and gender and feminist studies. She’s currently living in Boston, where she has launched a business as a birth and postpartum doula (www.lilyshaffer.com). She says, “I spend my days helping moms bring their babies into
the world and supporting families during the postpartum period—it’s amazing!” She’s applied to nurse-midwifery programs and hopes to begin a program in fall 2016. She’s also teaching yoga at the Breathing Room in Cambridge, rock climbing, dabbling in herbalism, and “generally loving being out of Southern California and back on the East Coast!” Jenn Schaffer is pursuing an MPhil degree in criticism and culture at the University of Cambridge while continuing to write for Vice. This past autumn, she had lunch with Jake Romanow in New York and Tiffany Li ’09 in Chicago. Jenn says she’d “love to meet up with any ’10 alums who find themselves in London.” Brenna Liponis is working as a senior associate consultant for Trinity Partners, a strategy life sciences consulting firm with offices in Boston, NYC, and SF. She was very happy to see them. Hannah was about to leave for a Fulbright in Rio de Janeiro; Courtney is finishing up school at Columbia University in NYC. There are so many ways to get involved with Andover post-graduation: You can be an admissions interviewer, a regional volunteer, a non sibi leader, an annual giving agent, or a class secretary, or serve on the alumni council. All of these are great ways to stay connected to the school and meet amazing alumni across generations. Please contact Jen Hout, the liaison for young alumni engagement, at jhout@andover.edu for more information on how to get involved in any of these roles in a city near you!
Albert Magnell graduated from Oxford with a master’s degree in biochemistry. He is now back in the States, pursuing a PhD degree in biology at MIT. The two have been chatting about rebuilding the Andover alumni network at Google. Chioma Ngwudo founded Cee Cee’s Closet NYC with her sister, Uchenna. This brand celebrates the beauty of African prints through its vibrant collection of handmade handbags and accessories. Orie and Aniebiet Abasi have shown their support by rocking Cee Cee’s Closet handbags at fall events and on social media. Chioma, Natasha Vaz, and Jessica Holley rendezvoused in Cambridge, Mass., to ring in the New Year and dance the night away. A large cohort of the Class of 2011 met at the Black Rose Pub in Boston to connect. Zac Elder, Jakob Rohwer, Tom Weaver, Mari Walsh, Kelly Powers, Mike DiFronzo, Chris Cameron, Casey McQuillen, and Chioma Ngwudo shared a few drinks, stories, and laughs. They listened to a live Irish band and had a few pints of Guinness. Thomas Kramer and Theresa Faller had a lovely wine and Peeta night at Tommy’s apartment. They drank wine, watched The Hunger Games, and ate pita bread (in honor of Peeta Mellark). Clearly, the odds were ever in their favor. We look forward to seeing what the rest of 2016 brings to the Class of 2011!

Last summer and fall was an exciting time for everyone in our class, from those of us who have already launched ourselves into the “real world” to those who are looking for (and, we hope, not stressing over) ways to start that adventure. Katrina Fuller spent the summer helping her grandfather, a lawyer for various native tribes in the U.S., run for Rosebud Sioux tribal president. Although he did not win, she said it was a great Andover | Summer 2016
