Re sume Philipp Stiebler Master Student of Architecture Berlin, May 2019
I enjoy taking under consideration the geographical, social and political influences that stand behind a project as a way of learning about the varied traditions that every culture brings with it. Because of this, I chose to work on international projects in order to experience different types of cultures and architecture - two great passions of mine. I am curious about new forms of living and the use of different materials that benefit the environment and society and I enjoy working with others, whether in groups or simply to exchange ideas with my colleagues and to learn from each other.

M akin g th e C u lt u ra l L andscap e of B a g a n A c c es s ab le Bagan / Myanmar DAAD Summer School, October 2018 March 2019 Building in Heritage Context
The DAAD Summer School in Bagan dealt with the research question: how can the site of Bagan, which is nominated to be a world heritage site, be more accessible to tourists and support the development of Myanmar while protecting the monuments from destruction and keeping Bagan as a home for its habitants? The design, which was conceived together with architecture students from Myanmar, shows a sensitive approach to the monumental area of Bagan. We created efficient ways to improve tourism by providing easier access to the area and options to walk on several routes with beautiful views. The improved conditions of the new routes would also positively affect the lives of local farmers and residents and the low cost of construction facilitate quick implementation. The clear guidelines of how to create new routes would make it easy to extend the system and establish a route-network that will include more areas in Bagan. By using the local brick, the color of the path corresponds with the surroundings while highlighting the path. The participation of local student and inhabitants, lead to a collective project that supports the development of Bagan. With increasing numbers of tourists, it is of great importance to guide them and raise their awareness regarding the site and how to behave when entering the zone in order to preserve the cultural heritage.

E xpos in g th e Cor ner Cottbus / Germany Pop Up Design Studio, June 2018 Modular Student Homes
The exposed location of the Stadthalle in Cottbus will be re-staged with a modular student dormitory that brings a new life to the entrance of Friedrich-Ebert street. The design of the new building consists of four student apartments and a common livingroom on the ground floor. The modules are stacked on top of each other in a way that embraces the street lines and brings them together to create a dynamic form to the building. The atrium is a special architectural detail in this building; it is a communication element between the street and the living space; it represents the urbanity of this location; it is a part of the grid of the neighboring modules. The atrium is bordered by a movable wooden frame that serves as a barrier to the street space. Due to the mobility of the wooden pilasters, a game of light and shadow, of open and closed, is created. Due to the almost complete prefabrication and the choice of materials, the house is highly sustainable. The modularity of the program and ease of construction make it possible to duplicate it at different locations. It can, therefore, be a prototype of how to fill gaps in cities and to vitalize them with functional and comfortable living spaces and a modern architectural language.

C reatin g a v a ri et y o f livin g in t h e urban lan d sc a p e Berlin / Germany Design Studio, October 2017 - March 2018 Concept for vertical housing project
The project represents a section through the different population groups in society. The design considers the needs of the different inhabitants while still retaining its flexibility, through which an urban community can grow. To achieve this, I used a modular scheme which is based on a grid of 4 by 4 meters, that can respond to different forms of living. The smallest unit is 30 sqm, in which all necessary needs are accommodated. This system creates plenty of maneuvering options of living and offers possibilities for expansion. The residential tower comprises of 59 residential units with 17 different typologies on 12 floors. I emphasized the common areas with a staircase-core that exposes all levels and is connected to a common room, from which the residential units can be accessed. This promotes social exchange while providing space for special uses, such as a communal kitchen, a library, or a roof garden, which greatly improve the inhabitants‘ quality of life. In order to organize the different forms of living according to the varied requirements, the modules are arranged in a cluster-system, in which the potential privacy increases with the height of the building. This design promotes a new idea of how to respond to changing urban conditions while respecting all classes of society. It is an example of housing that can be assembled in a collaborative structure while considering the needs of individual residents.

Re vitaliz in g t h e W il l ner Bre w ery Berlin / Germany Bachelor Thesis, November 2015 - May 2016 Preservation of an industrial monument
For the bachelor‘s thesis, I developed a new concept for the upgrading and conversion of the Willner Brewery in Berlin. The idea for the project came while working in the site, which was temporarily used for different social and commercial programs since 2012. Because of this, it was particularly important for us to involve the current users in the new program, who established a strong connection with the former brewery. The concept was to develop a cultural and social production site and to offer a space for new creative discourses. The main building offered the ideal condition to be the center of our design. We divided it into three superordinate functional areas: Assemblies, offices, and events, also inspired by the different parts of the building during its brewery operation. In order to strengthen the design of our idea of a „production plant“, we optically marked the subdivision of the three functional areas by emphasizing the entrances. A dialogue between the buildings and their correspondence to the outside is expressed by the funnel-shaped entrance bodies, whose outer form is repeated inside the building. The main entrance serves as a connection between the individual functional areas while creating order by separating them from each other. Bridges lead from this area to each of the other three.

D esign b y th e p ro gram Rehovot / Israel Design Studio, October 2014 - March 2015 Extension building for the Weizmann Research Institute
The studio focused on the design of an extension building for the research center of the Weizmann Institute in Israel in accordance with the specifications for its use. The project was divided into three phases; development; utilization concept; design form. In each phase, we worked out different options by producing sketches and models. The varied results provided an ideal basis for my design, which includes the arrangement of three research departments that stand independently and are connected in the public area of the building on the ground floor via a generous lounge area. This provides good orientation in the building and accessibility for the scientific staff as well as a meeting point for the community. This concept is reinforced by the construction and materiality of the building - using solid reinforced concrete for the self-contained departments and translucent glass and an open column grid for the public area.
