Since I won the British Hairdresser of the Year for the first time, we had a huge demand for education from international students, which was amazing. As the wins have continued to grow, there is now an even bigger influx than ever from overseas which we love.

It’s very important for a hairdresser to be active in competitions: not only to establish themselves, but also to grow as hairdressers and understand fully every aspect of the industry. Winning awards is a great credit to have and it sets you apart from other Stylists.

4-Do Asian students differ from other nationalities? Taiwanese, Japanese and the Philippines students have all been to the HOB Academy. Their work ethic and approach to learning is very focused, which is endearing, their need to know everything makes them fantastic students: they take a lot of inspiration from it. 5-What other interests could attendees benefit from the academy?

Models carrying three distinctive styles

A creation without concept is like a human without soul. Mr. Kera, Shiseido Top Hair and Make Up Artist, was invited for the first time outside of Japan to reveal the secrets behind his hair creations and emphasize the importance of a clear concept in hair design leading to the upcoming Beauty Innovator Award 2015. The seminar was held at Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI). Mr. Hirofumi Kera gave a live demonstration to the HKDI students and hairstylists; showing what takes place behind the scenes when creating his works. Three different styles were demonstrated to show how to realize concept to creation. The following day, two creative workshops at AHMA provided a chance for hairstylists to create their own works with the help of Kera.

Mr. Thomas Papavasileiou, P&G Distributor Operations Leader, Salon Professional Asia Region, flew in especially for the event. Disconnect sat down with Mr. Thomas Papavasileiou as he explained his role and philosophy as Wella’s Salon Professional regional leader in Asia.

Tell us about your work? Leading a region of 12 markets requires constant travelling as I need to be in close contact with salon owners and stylists to better understand their needs and the challenges they face. I am delighted to see how Wella Professionals inspire and enable stylists in Asia to use their creativity and craftsmanship. Asia today is showing tremendous growth and potential, it is an exciting period to be in from a Hairdressing point of view.

American Crew 2015 Launch Party Show was held at WHY CLUB, Tsim Sha Tsui to celebrate 20 years of men’s grooming and announce New Star Hair Product Co Ltd as the new Hong Kong distributor. Highlighting the event was the guest performances of Mr. Jesús Muñoz, American Crew International Education & Development Manager, and Ms. Vengerova Irina, American Crew & Revlon Education Manager, demonstrating six different men’s haircuts and styles, inspired from the brand’s current hair collection. The numerous salon attendees were invited to dress in British style to echo the party’s theme “Gentleman Night” and compete for the Best Dressed Award that evening. Mr. Jesús Muñoz and Ms. Vengerova Irina held an informative workshop the next day: hairstylists had the opportunity to practice the exclusive skills and techniques of men’s hairdressing under their supervision.

髮型師應該遵從哪些道德操守? 代替同事照應客人的髮型師應該遵照下列守則:

All hairdressers worry about allowing a fellow stylist look after their own clients when they need to be away from the salon due to holidays, sickness or simply cannot fit them in. Often clients cannot wait for a scheduled appointment due to personal reasons.

要認清一個事實 這並非你原有的客人,你只是受 同事所託,並趁機賺取額外收入而已。 在客人面前讚揚並肯定原本髮型師的工作和性格為 人。 不要爲了令人覺得自己比較優越,而批評其他髮型師 的風格或工作。

What are the CODE OF ETHICS all stylists should adhere to?

應該依隨原本髮型師為客人設計的風格,不要向客人 提議其他新意念或新嘗試。

If a fellow stylist looks after a client whilst you are unable to, that Stylist should follow these codes:

不要藉着建議客人做護理、染髮或電髮,試圖影響客 人撤換髮型師(這是狡詐和不誠實的做法)。

Respect the fact that the client is NOT yours and you are only helping out your colleague [and earning money from this].

工作時保持專業,按照客人的喜好來修剪。避免令人 覺得你有意將其他髮型師比下去。

Compliment the client’s regular stylist and praise their work and character. Never criticize the style or work of the other stylist in order to give an impression that you might be superior. Try to re-create the style of the original stylist, and never offer or suggest new or other ideas to the client. Never recommend treatments, colour or perms as a way of influencing the client away from your colleague. [This is underhanded and dishonest].

絕對不可以查問或取得客人的聯絡資料。 客人準備離開時,記住要提醒他們下次再來時可找回 原用的髮型師。 當你秉持專業操守和認清自己只是代為服務同事的客 人,你或會有意外收穫:你會發現客人下次會再指定 找你,與其他髮型師交談時也會替你澄清,你並沒有 蓄意從同事手上搶走客人。 千萬別要忽略在同事之間建立良好信譽的重要性: 因為信任是團隊工作中不可或缺的原素。

Act professionally and give the client what they want: avoid giving the impression that you are trying to out shine the other stylist. Never ask or take the clients’ personal contact details. When the client is ready to leave, remember to refer the client back to their regular stylist on their next visit. If whilst acting professionally and fully respecting the fact that the client is not yours: you discover that the client re-books you on their next visit; talk to the other stylist and explain you had no malicious intent to steal away the client. Place great importance in keeping your good reputation and honesty intact with your fellow co-workers: Trust is an essential ingredient whilst working within a team.
