Maastricht Workshop on Advances in Quantitative Economics II written by Merit Geldmacher On December 19 and 20, about 3.5 years after the first edition, the second edition of the Maastricht Workshop on Advances in Quantitative Economics took place. This is an event organised by alumni for alumni to bring together graduates of the Econometrics and Operations Research programme (Bachelor and/or Master). Both researchers and professionals presented and discussed their work in various fields of theoretical and applied Quantitative Economics which covered Finance, theoretical and applied Econometrics, Operations Research, Macroeconomics and Microeconomics. One session was dedicated to Jean-Pierre Urbain, our beloved professor, who passed away earlier this year. The lunch on Monday was proudly sponsored by the alumni office, and it was great to see that Leann Poeth joined the practitioners session, too. Unfortunately, due to exam week no other students could join but I am happy to have met the (W)Rampelmeyer! He was very surprised to hear that he’s still famous and popular amongst us. Furthermore, I was really happy to meet six old Vectum presidents and many more old board members and to tell them how Vectum has been developing since.

Seven of Vectum’s presidents: front row, from left to right: Simon Freyaldenhoven (2011 - 2012), Sean Telg (2012 - 2013), Merit Geldmacher (2016 - 2017), Thijs Urlings (2003 - 2004); back row, from left to right: Dion Bongearts (2002 - 2003), Jan Wrampelmeyer (2004 - 2005), Marvin Plötz (2009 - 2010) 31
