Six Months – Twelve Events press kit: in and out the water along the exhilarating Aquitaine coast

Aquitaine Land of Rainbows This specially-created mini guide is designed to surprise you, to capture your heart and to take you far away from the preconceived images, overcrowded places and predictable events. Aquitaine: terra incognita? Probably not: its 5 départments, Dordogne, Gironde, Landes, Lot-etGaronne and Pyrénées-Atlantiques are renowned for several good reasons. There is so much to experience and share in this popular region with its unspoilt nature. And yet… stop just a moment and take a fresh look… forget what you already know and rediscover Aquitaine in its thousands of colours, discreet yet bright, invigorating yet soothing, glitzy yet peaceful… Unspoilt nature, heritage, regional produce, bike riding, sailing and walking (even on stilts!) are ideas that spring to mind, and historical visits, exceptional attractions, festivals, entertainment, charming villages, culinary specialities, local skills, and the best establishments and gourmet restaurants are on offer for you. But above all, Aquitaine is truly revealed to those who are stimulated by all its dimensions, with an open eye and willing senses. Its palette emerges both in the singular and plural: the blue of the ocean and the sky, the yellow of the beaches, the stimulating virtues of green (displayed in the Landes forest, the lush Dordogne countryside and the orchards of Lot-et-Garonne), the golden light shining over the vineyards, the whiteness of the crystal clear dawns which engulf the fortified towns, the red of Bordeaux wines and the bright sun loungers on the coast… The spirit of a land that will dazzle any painter! You are guaranteed a warm welcome in this magical world. Set off on a unique adventure and make yourself at home in Aquitaine! The Aquitaine Regional Tourist Board offers 4 themed press kits: - Six months – Twelve events: in and out the water along the exhilarating Aquitaine coastline; -

The Aquitaine coast is also a land of culture, music, dancing, sports events and festive gatherings. Easter weekend each year The most popular Citroën takes to the road Le Teich –> A small port on the shores of the Bay of Arcachon, located 60km from Bordeaux in the Landes de Gascogne Regional Nature Park. –> Ideally situated for visiting the Bay of Arcachon, coastal heritage and the Landes forest. –> Directly accessible from the A63 motorway via junction 22. –> 17km from Arcachon.

Between the dunes and the ocean, nearly 300 2CVs and spin-offs (Diane, Méhari, Ami 6, Ami 8) along with old Citroën vehicles will be present at this rally which combines the pleasures of driving with the discovery of our maritime heritage. As has been the tradition every Easter weekend since 2002, experts and collectors invite enthusiasts to follow them from the port of Le Teich, and share in their magnificent passion.

From 11-13 April 2009, different routes will lead them around the Bay of Arcachon, in astonishingly beautiful natural surroundings: a convoy along the beachside avenue, a circuit around the Landes de Gascogne Regional Nature Park, shows, processions and parades in the coastal villages, and halts for the drivers to indulge in some oyster tasting. A show of stunningly customised and decorated cars, musical entertainment and serious and fun events provide the convivial atmosphere and good-humoured spirit traditionally associated with the image of the 2CV. Over this long weekend, the 2CV gathering is an equally good excuse to discover the Oyster Route and Le Teich Ornithological Reserve of European renown. Along with the swallows, the 2CV in Le Teich heralds the return of Spring!

Le Teich Ornithological Reserve: April, the nesting season Observe, listen and learn to identify the wild birds which come to the marshlands, lagoons, reeds, meadows and forests of the Bay of Arcachon… The extensive Le Teich bird reserve (6,000 hectares of forest and 1,000 hectares of marshlands) is located on the migratory routes and is frequented by 260 different species, 80 of which nest there. Three trails have been laid out (the longest with 17 observatories), winding around a 4km strip of land. Amongst the multitude of white storks, egrets, herons and the great number of lesser-known species – white spoonbill, common shelduck - welcome to the month of April’s special guests, the rare and splendid bluethroat and elegant Pied Avocet! There are pedestrian footpaths, horse riding tracks and cycle paths in the area surrounding the park, for you to take full advantage of this magical area.

Every other year on Ascension weekend An air show on Biscarrosse Lake Biscarrosse –> Located 80km from Bordeaux, Biscarrosse is situated between ocean, lakes and forests. With these 3 natural elements, the town boasts the charm of a small coastal resort, the fragrance of pine resin and scents of the sea. –> 25km from Biscarrosse town centre, Arcachon offers additional attractions: guided trips, shopping, restaurants and the discovery of the Bay of Arcachon.

Biscarrosse (Landes)

Opportunities to experience or watch a sea landing are rare in France, and even in Europe: every other year the Biscarrosse International Gathering offers an extremely rare event over 4 days on the historic site of the Latécoère Air Base. From 13-16 May 2010, the finest seaplanes in the world land on Biscarrosse Lake, like amazing mechanical insects which appear to float on the surface of the Crédit photo : CRTA / OT Biscarrosse water… Throughout the Ascension long weekend, the air show will present aircraft from the 1940’s, as well as more recent models.

One of the few remaining seaplane bases in France, established on the site chosen by Latécoère (a manufacturer of military and civil planes) for assembly and testing in the 1930s, this is the ideal spot for welcoming specialists and novices of all nationalities. The event offers the chance to watch impressive demonstrations, such as the National Security Canadair water bombers, who are always much appreciated. The figures performed by the professional air force patrols, or the acrobatics of the stuntmen in their old-fashioned biplanes are also spectacular sights to behold. It is now or never for those daring enough to experience their first flight: seaplanes, microlights and floating helicopters will make your dream come true! The gathering also brings back to life a history rich in heroic figures and magnificent men in their flying machines, such as Mermoz or Saint-Exupéry, through a fascinating visit to the historic seaplane museum. In terms of entertainment, there are some activities on offer: flight simulators, a special exhibition for the 100th anniversary of the invention of the seaplane, a different concert with aperitifs each day, street entertainment, an exhibition area…

In 2010, the event will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the invention of the seaplane: surprises and thrills guaranteed! CONTACT International Seaplanes Gathering : +33 (0)5 58 83 40 44 Web site: www.hydravions-biscarrosse.com

First weekend in June each year Relive the "Belle Epoque" for a week-end ! Soulac-sur-Mer → Situated 100km north of Bordeaux, Soulac-Sur-Mer is nestled on the edge of the Médoc region, close to the mouth of the Gironde estuary. → Famous for its “five hundred villas” in the typical Arcachon style, the small coastal town has real class. Its “Notre-Dame-de-la-Fin-desTerres” church was once covered by sand and is classed as UNESCO World Heritage as one of the sites on the Compostella Pilgrimage Route.

Soulac (Gironde)

Every first weekend in June since 2004, the small Médoc resort has experienced a strange phenomenon: 4 Crédit photo : OT de Soulac wheel-drives, mountain bikes and jeans disappear and the streets are invaded by ancient vehicles and women with parasols clothed in long dresses, strolling on the arms of men wearing boater hats. Soulac-sur-Mer is transformed into a coastal resort of the last century! In the smoke of the steam train from Bordeaux, around 300 passengers disembark: the scene is perfect, the costumes are authentic and the backdrop is splendid! These travellers are not actors, but local residents, walkers, and owners of local shops and restaurants who enliven the streets of Soulac in the course of this two-day event. Cars are prohibited in the town centre from the eve of the event onwards, and visitors who have come to celebrate the occasion are also invited to join in with the fun and games, with period costumes and accessories available. Musical entertainment, reconstructed scenes of daily life, open air shows, a gourmet market and typical dishes from the 1900s, a parade of classic cars, horse-drawn carriage tours in the old town: this event is a cultural and festive immersion in the past, enjoyed by around 25,000 people each year! The theme of the 2009 event is "Great Inventions". Such as the railway which aided the discovery of seawater bathing, and changed the course of history… Rediscover the early days of the 20th century, sail out to the patriarch of lighthouses, cast your net into the waters of the Gironde river, soak up the mysteries of the marshlands: welcome to the largest estuary in Europe! The “Versailles of the Sea” The Cordouan lighthouse is located at an equal distance from the coasts of Gironde and Charente-Maritime. It is the oldest French lighthouse still in use, and the only one to be occupied by a keeper. Classed as a historical monument since 1862 (at the same time as Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris) it was built on a rocky islet located 7km out to sea. Its spectacular architecture, the result of a long and turbulent history, makes Cordouan the “Versailles of the Sea”, a lighthouse like no other in the world for a visit which will not fail to astound you. From the heights of a fishing hut... Fishing from huts on stilts remains a typical and highly original way of discovering the largest estuary in Western Europe. The hut consists of a platform and cabin from where the fisher lifts and casts his net. From the heights of this motionless "wading bird", rocked by the solitary lapping of the water and the flight of migratory birds, casting your net into the waters of the Garonne and Dordogne rivers will provide wonderful memories… as well as eels, mussels and shrimps! Those who prefer to keep their feet on the ground can explore the Pointe de Grave marshlands or the Le Verdon sand dune on a guided visit that will awaken your senses and offer a breathtaking view of the estuary, as well as discovering the characteristic plant and animal species and rich cultural and natural heritage of the area.

Gallop against the tide… Arcachon → Located 65km from Bordeaux, the town of Arcachon is a jewel set on the Bay of Arcachon, a small inland sea opening into the Atlantic Ocean. In the shadow of the dune of Le Pilat (Europe’s largest), the former "Belle Epoque" high-society seaside resort sparkles with its lively, elegant lifestyle. → Ideally located for boat trips and water sports, Arcachon is also famous for its oysters and its districts named after the 4 seasons. The "Winter Town" in particular, boasts beautiful coastal architecture.

Arcachon (Gironde)

The sand, waves and newly-arrived summer weather make for an exceptional equestrian event. Nearly 200 horse riders take part in the qualifying trials on the beach and at Arcachon’s Centre Equestre de l'Etrier Sportif: qualifying rounds in pairs, parallel courses, highly technical show-jumping, evening competitions and trials reserved for young horses and riders. The speed qualifying trial selects those who will participate in the semi-finals of the Derby. This is the legendary and spectacular part of the event, when horses and riders tackle the obstacles laid out in the sand whilst battling against the rising tide - the terrain, noise, tidal flow, wind… so many unknown factors create the splendour and suspense of the race. The three days of the “Jumping des Sables” event include 11 trials, each with a prize to be won. The Arcachon derby is the only competition in Europe to be held on the sea front. The Bay of Arcachon Oyster tasting and sea excursions: a treat for the eyes and the taste buds! Two charming attractions have given the Bay of Arcachon its reputation: its oyster-farming production enjoyed by food lovers, and its sea trips which delight the eyes with marvellous images. The Banc d’Arguin is a strip of sand which has been Crédit photo : CRTA / L. Reiz designated as a nature reserve, the resting place for countless species of migratory birds: a great spot to play the role of Robinson Crusoe for a day! The oysters here have a sweet, milky, fresh-from-the-sea flavour. In the middle of the sea waters, the Ïle aux Oiseaux stretches out mysteriously, guarded by the cabines tchanquées – the famous wooden huts mounted on stilts. The island provides distinctly strong oysters flavoured with vegetable and mineral aromas. The shuttle service between Arcachon and Cap Ferret takes visitors across the Bay of Arcachon, offering a view of the entrance to the bay, the tip of the peninsula, the lighthouse and the green line of the pines. The oysters of Cap Ferret contain delicate aromas of fresh vegetables and citrus fruits. Amongst the several oyster-fishing huts offering introductions to oyster tasting, that of L’Aiguillon offers much sought-after delights: oysters here are served at the water’s edge under climbing vines, accompanied by chilled Bordeaux white wine. Every year in July

A boat race with boars Saint-Jean-de-Luz → In a sheltered spot on the Bay of Biscay, Saint-Jean-de-Luz has kept the authenticity of a working fishing port. A small town of character with a family beach protected from the thrashing of the Atlantic Ocean by a sea wall. → A stronghold of Basque heritage, its arts and traditions still endure: singing, dancing, traditional sports (pelota, fishing boat races), traditional fabrics, gastronomic specialities and architecture (town houses of Saint-Jean-de-Luz privateers). → Saint-Jean-de-Luz is situated 12km from Biarritz and 10km from the Spanish border.

Saint-Jean-de-Luz (Pyrénées Atlantiques)

In early July each year, the bay of Saint-Jean-de-Luz hosts a fishing boat competition. Extremely popular in the Spanish Basque provinces, this high-level race also arouses keen interest among the French. A "trainière" is a type of boat first constructed in around 1850, designed for fishing with nets which were dragged along the sandy sea bed to catch sardines. The wooden boat weighed 600kg and carried 17 men on board. As is often the case, the sport enjoyed nowadays is derived from daily life of men of the past: in past times, the first boat to arrive at the port could sell its fish at the highest price! The boats measure 12 metres in length and 2 metres in width, guided by 13 rowers and a steersman, genuine athletes specialised in this type of sailing. On Sunday 5 July, starting at 11.30am, 12 teams will battle it out in 3 races around an ultra-rapid course departing from the main beach at the edge of the town centre, then turning behind the Artha and SainteBarbe sea walls in the middle of the ocean, in 4 sections. A display of raw power to open the summer season in style.

Pelota, culinary specialities, the ecomuseum, traditional linen fabrics The best of Basque culture Bare handed or cesta punta, pala or chistera, there are a wide variety of ways to play the Basque game of pelota. At Saint-Jean-de-Luz, a wall, three trinquetes (covered playing areas, such as the Maïtena trinquete at the heart of the pedestrian area of town), a left wall and a jaï alaï (a wall reserved specifically for cesta punta) attract the best players in the world. A captivating spectacle which you can try your hand at during the summer holidays, to experience the difficulties and sensations associated with the game: the tourist office are offering introductory sessions to the game of Basque pelota, at the left wall on Monday and Thursday mornings throughout the summer season. After all that effort, enjoy the pleasures of the dining table! Four centuries ago, the famous macaroon biscuits of the pastry chef Adam captivated Louis XIV, who travelled here on 9 June 1660 to marry Maria Theresa of Habsburg, the eldest daughter of King Philip IV of Spain. The Maison Lohobiague which accommodated the “Sun King” and his court is one of the finest buildings in the old town and the Maison Joanoenia (known as the Maison Rose), the residence of Maria, enjoys an exceptional location on the port: both are of great interest to visitors. Another must-see attraction steeped in history and culture is the Ecomuseum of Basque Traditions, housed in an 18th century farm at the entrance to the village. All aspects of the Basque country lifestyle and expertise are presented here: lzarra liqueurs, the development of the game of pelota, traditional handicrafts (Basque berets, espadrilles, “xahakoa” flasks), demonstrations of traditional dances, displays of traditional fabrics resulting from the hereditary production of linen and the talent of local weavers (household, table and bathroom linen)… These can be found in the on-site boutique or in the town centre. Every year in July The festival that makes Bayonne swing Bayonne →

At the foot of the Pyrenees, just half an hour from Spain and a few kilometres from the Atlantic Ocean, Bayonne is the economic and cultural capital of the Basque country.

→ The town is characterised by the beauty of its half-timbered houses, its taste for celebrations and games, its traditional gourmet foods such as ham and chocolate, its annual August festival, its bullfights (the oldest in France), the game of Basque pelota…

Bayonne (Pyrénées Atlantiques)

→ Bayonne is close to the Basque coast and its resorts (Biarritz and Saint-Jean-de Luz in particular), as well as to the inland villages (Labastide-Clairence, Cambo-les-Bains).

For its 7th annual event to be held this year, "La Ruée au Jazz" is offering a high quality programme with a clear purpose: jazz for everyone. What better way of achieving this than to take it out into the streets? Having hosted great names such as Archie Shepp, Mina Agossi, Stéphane Belmondo and Sylvain Luc, Bojan Z and Julien Lourau, Rabi Abou Khalil and Renaud Garcia Fons, the 2009 “La Ruée au Jazz” event will repeat its magic formula: inviting internationally renowned artists, living jazz legends, accompanied by musicians who have been directly influenced by them. A successful and moving event uniting different generations, Americans and Crédit photo : OT Bayonne Europeans, headliners and talented youngsters, for the pleasure of their audience. Together, the twenty musicians that will be present on the 10, 11 and 12 August will span the world of jazz (bebop, cool, west coast, latin, fusion, funk…) offering energetic, lively music that crosses all boundaries and is free all day. Bayonne, the French capital of chocolate Eat as much as you like! Did you know that in Bayonne, chocolate is a real institution? The town has continued to work on the skills inherited from the 17th century Jews chased out of their countries by the Spanish and Portuguese Inquisitions, who brought the techniques for transforming the cocoa bean with them. From May 2009, the Post Office is even releasing a stamp collection celebrating 400 years of chocolate in Bayonne! For centuries, young people from the Basque country have thrown themselves into challenges between one farm and another, one village and another. Basque strong-man competitions have nowadays become one of the most popular shows of the summer season. The rural activities of ancestral daily life can be found here, in 10 disciplines where local heavyweights battle it out: Soka Tira (tug of war), Esneketariak (race where competitors carry milk cans weighing 40kg), Aizkolariak (tree felling challenge), Zalulariak (tree trunk sawing), Orga Joko (pulling a cart weighing 350kg out of the mud), Lasto Altxari (lifting bundles of hay), Harri Altxatzea (lifting rocks weighing between 200 and 300 kg), Zakulaterka (sprint with sacks of corn weighing 80kg), Lastoabotatze (hay bale throwing). Colourful and entertaining trials guaranteed! The demonstrations of Basque strength take place at the site of the Arcangues pelota wall (around ten kilometres from Bayonne) on the first Tuesday of August and enable visitors to discover this perfectly situated village, famous throughout the world and decorated with frescos painted by Ramiro Arrue, the most famous of contemporary Basque painters. The young princes of the ocean put on a show Hossegor → On the Landes coast, also known as the "Côte d’Argent" (Silver Coast), Hossegor is situated at the border with the Basque Country. → This small town has been much sought-after by artists (notably writers) since the 1930s for its charming environment and Basque-Landes architecture. Opened in 1930, its attractive 18-hole golf course situated at the heart of a pine forest was designed by Jim Morrisson. Hossegor also attracts surfers from across the globe thanks to its powerful and consistent waves. → Further inland, the Domain of Ognoas reveals the secrets of Armagnac to visitors, and ancient vintages kept in oak barrels.

These children of the waves with the sea as their playground are all under 21 years of age: on 21, 22 and 23 August 2009, the world’s rising stars of surfing will take on the challenging Atlantic Ocean in the bay of Hossegor. Fantastic! The “North”, the famous wave which grows from the shallows just off Hossegor (“deep pit” in the Gascon language), is the reason behind the choice of this small Landes resort to host the professional surfing world championships (Rip Curl Pro) from 2001 onwards. 2009 will be the first time that the best Australian, American and European juniors have competed at this legendary spot, however. An impressive show that will make the youngsters dream and others tremble…

This sporting event turns into a celebration in the evenings, with the Rip Curl Music Festival offering an excellent programme of rock music. Free concerts will be held just a few kilometres from Hossegor on the beach of Ilbarritz in Bidart, one of the most beautiful beaches of the nearby Basque country. The festival has been awarded the Green’n’clean label for its eco-initiatives both during and after the concerts. “The ocean is an area of both freedom and responsibility” said Victor Hugo, and today’s surfers still apply this timeless declaration… Tradition, awareness and respect for nature, these are the values of the area around Hossegor.

The distillation room, the ageing cellars and the tasting area reveal their treasures: great vintage Armagnacs with hints of vanilla and prune, Floc de Gascogne (an apéritif), Armagnac fruit preserves, regional wines… and the real gem - the oldest distillery in Gascony, listed as a historical monument. Using traditional processes, this true work of art dating back to 1804 distills 150 hectolitres of Armaganc each year, aged for at least ten years in the estate’s oak barrels. Amongst its 5 prehistoric caves, Lezea is the one where visitors can immerse themselves in the origins and mythology of the Basque country, through a journey of sound and light, to the rhythm of the Txalaparta, an ancient percussion instrument. The Lezea cave is connected to the Zugarramurdi cave in the Spanish Basque province of Navarre by a pedestrian footpath known as “the smugglers’ trail”. Exciting adventures are on offer along the 8 signposted paths and 3 mountain bike trails leading to original areas, where “palombières” and chapels will amaze you by their quantity and architecture.

The archeological site adjacent to the cave presents a heritage of 31 dolmens, 5 ancient burial mounds, 4 cromlechs and 2 menhirs, and the Museum of Prehistory exhibits countless relics found on site. Ortillopitz is a house which leaps straight out of Sare’s history, a mansion restored to its original 17th and 18th century style, open to the public and offering the opportunity to travel back in time and get a taste of the Basque architecture and lifestyle of times past. Just 10km from Saint-Jean-de-Luz, halfway between Sare and the equally characteristic village of Ascain, the little Rhune cog railway train leads up to the mythical peak of the Basque country, at an altitude of 900 metres. Biarritz → Biarritz is the most prestigious coastal resort on the Basque coast. In 1854, Napoleon III built a palace there for his wife, Empress Eugenie, assuring the success of the town which was to become “the king of beaches and the beach of kings”. → A well-known surfing spot throughout the world, a golfers’ paradise and an exclusive destination for thalassotherapy, the town is also brimming with city delights such as gastronomy and shopping.

Biarritz (Pyrénées Atlantiques)

→ Accessible via the A10 motorway (Paris-Biarritz-Hendaye), the Biarritz-laNégresse train station and the Biarritz-Anglet-Bayonne international airport located 3km from the town centre.

From 11-20 September 2009, Biarritz is staging the 19th “Temps d'aimer” festival of classical and contemporary dance, which aims to make the choreographic art more accessible. Over the course of 10 days, dancing will occupy the town’s three theatres (Gare du Midi, Théâtre du Casino Municipal and Colisée) as well as taking over much of the town. The countless original free outdoor events are always a great success: public rehearsals, “gigabarre” on the Grand Plage walkway, open stages on the Casino esplanade and elsewhere… The festival favours this type of open air presentation, with the aim of making dance accessible to a wider audience. Twenty companies from countries such as Sweden, Germany and the Netherlands, the “crème de la crème” of Aquitaine’s artistic performers, as well as Basque and Occitan professionals have been invited this year. Featuring among them is the prestigious Royal Swedish Ballet who performed the most recent creation of choreographer Mats Ek, for the first time ever in France. Thierry Malandain, the show’s artistic director and director of the Biarritz National Choreography Centre, also encourages the discovery of undiscovered French artists and theatrical groups. “Le temps d’aimer” dance festival is also a fantastic occasion to discover Biarritz just after the summer season… Crédit photo : A. Golf, thalassotherapy, restaurants, exhibitions Get in shape and enjoy the delights of the town! Biarritz is a Mecca for golfers! Originally set up by the British, the “Phare” golf course was the second to be constructed on mainland Europe. Its distinguishing feature lies with the fact that it is located at the heart of the town centre. The “Centre international d'Ilbarritz” training complex, the only one of its kind in Europe stretching over 26 hectares at the edge of the ocean, is set in the village of Bidart. Golfers can tour the whole region, which Crédit photo : Le Doaré – Biarritz Tourisme boasts nine other greens located within an area of 30 kilometres, including renowned courses such as Arcangues, Makhila in Bassussary, Seignosse and Moliets. The Biarritz Golf Pass, which gives access to 6 courses, allows golfers to experience the diversity of the area. A must for art lovers is a visit to the Espace Bellevue, where a prestigious contemporary art exhibition is hosted each season: the paintings and frescoes of the Mexican painter Diego Rivera will be on display in 2009. There’s also an abundance of art and culture at the Asiatica Museum of Oriental Art which houses France’s second largest collection of art from the Far East (the largest collection is on display at the Musée Guimet in Paris). For its 10th anniversary, the museum is exhibiting 120 works from the “Sainte Eugénie crypt” on the theme “Journey to the Himalayas” (11 April28 June 2009). Calling all food lovers! Fitness and thalassotherapy on the Basque coast From Anglet to Hendaye, passing through Biarritz and Saint-Jean-de-Luz, a long tradition of marine treatment has led to the establishment of several thalassotherapy centres here. The first of these establishments, the “Thermes Marins” in Biarritz, was refurbished in 2008. “Thalassa” refers to the nearby ocean water with its refreshing waves and the virtues of its seaweed and sea mud. Thalassa-Biarritz, Hélianthal in Saint-Jean-de-Luz, the Serge Blanco centre in Hendaye and Atlanthal in Anglet all have long-standing reputations. They are now offering a range of “spas” (from the Latin, “sanitas per aquam”), a new concept of blissful treatments aimed at restoring the balance between body and mind, the famous “zenitude”. Audience participation on the schedule, the atmosphere of intellectual competition and the enthusiastic exchanges between locals and festival goers create a very special spirit around the festival’s fundamental feature: the Contis-les-Bains arts cinema. The spirit of cinema is kept alive throughout the year thanks to a community of enthusiastic cinemagoers: a wide range of films are screened including art house films, classic films, national mainstream films and premieres. This festival, a world of image and speech, is also a great place to eat, drink and meet directors and producers in a friendly atmosphere. Forty short and medium-length films will also be entered into a competition. A splendid pool of talent will also be screened before an audience in Paris, as the event opening takes place on 18 September at the Entrepôt in Paris, a site dedicated to the “rising stars” of artistic creation. This spirit of diversity in Contis-les-Bains is enjoyed over four days, with concerts (rock, Brazilian groups and African music) exhibitions, and screenings combined with heritage days, debates, awards, reviews… While the Contis-les-Bains lighthouse shines out over the Atlantic Ocean, the light of the projectors radiates creativity on land.
