Switching It Up

Hours: Monday through Thursday 9:00 a.m.—6:00 p.m. Friday 9:00 a.m.—5:00 p.m. Saturday 9:00 a.m.—noon

Thanks to funding from the school and libraries support service program (commonly known as E-rate), a grant from Oklahoma Department of Libraries, and a generous donation from the Progress Club, the Library will be installing new network cables & switches sometime in late January. For our patrons, the new cables and switches offer a couple different benefits. When using our free Wi-Fi or public computers, patrons will see an increase in internet speed. The installation will also help bolster our internet security. The work is anticipated to be performed during the week of January 22nd, and the Library will be closed to patrons during the installation. During this time, you’ll still have access to our OK Virtual Library and online book renewal!

Calling Young Readers! Beginning February 6th, we are pleased to offer our new Library After the Bell program – or Reading L.A.B.! Geared towards early readers in 2nd & 3rd grades, this afterschool program offers students an opportunity to read along with others...and get in an extra hour of reading a week.

We’ll choose a book together as a group, and then our designated, experienced reader will read aloud as everyone follows along. No quizzes will be given, but fun will definitely be had! The hour-long program will start at 4:00 p.m. There’s no cost and no registration required.

Sequoyah Book Awards The first Sequoyah book awards were given in 1959, honoring Sequoyah’s achievement of creating the Cherokee syllabary. The awards are now given every year to authors of Children’s, Intermediate (or YA), and (since 2010) High School books. Each and every Oklahoma school-age student who has read

3 or more titles from this year’s Masterlist is able to vote for their favorite book, making the Sequoyah Book Awards the 3rd oldest youth-choice awards in the nation. If you’d like to see this year’s Masterlist of titles, you’re able to view the list on the Oklahoma Library Association’s

webpage: http://www.oklibs.org/ default.asp?page=01Sequoyah While we do have some of the titles in the library, if you’d like to read any of the books, they’re all currently available on our OK Virtual Library: okvirtuallibrary.overdrive.com/library/kids/ collection/96128
