While there is no admission charge for the general public, the Lions Club will have a donation jar on site. The net profit from Wheels on the Mississippi goes back into the community. “We are really hoping for great

weather, said Ferguson. “If the sun’s out, we could get thousands of people out. Riverside Park is located just off Lake Avenue West. For more information, contact Ferguson at 613-229-1625.

Spaying/Neutering prevents the births of cats and dogs for whom no homes can be found. In Canada, tens of thousands of cats and dogs are put to death annually in pounds and shelters because there are not enough homes for them. And how many more die on the streets from sickness, injury and starvation? PLEASE SPAY AND NEUTER YOUR ANIMALS.

EMC Events – Come see amazing classic and custom wheels this Sunday, June 23, as the Carleton Place Lions Club presents the annual Wheels on the Mississippi event. Even though the popular show has been running for 10 years, the Lions club took over after year two. “We are now in our eighth year of hosting duties, said organizer Ken Ferguson. Visitors of all ages will enjoy the plethora of vehicles on display at Riverside Park. The event runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wheels on the Mississippi continues to gain momentum. There were more than 250 vehicles in 2012. No pre-registration is required. Participants simply show up and pay the $10 registration fee. Furthermore, the first 250 registrants receive a dash plaque. To claim a spot, vehicle owners begin arriving between 7:30 and 8 a.m. “We get participants from all over Lanark County, Ottawa and event Quebec, said Ferguson. Among the awards handed out is the trophy presented in memory of Dale ‘Scoon’ Scott, long-time Carleton Place volunteer and disc jockey. “The award goes to the vehicle with the best sound system, said Ferguson. Local Progressive Conservative Member of Provincial Parliament (MPP), Randy Hillier will present this year’s VIP trophy. The show’s 13 car classes are as follows: Best GM, Best Ford, Best Import, Best Mopar, Best Body Graphics, Best Custom Interior, Best Corvette, Best Modified, Best Historic, Best Vintage, Best Classic, Best Truck and Best in Show. Other festivities include countless vendors, food and refreshments (Lions club, Texas Worthy, Domino’s Pizza, My House and Dali’s Pizza & Shawarma), 50/50 draw, prize table, raffle (four Yokohama tires courtesy of CP Tire & Auto Refinishing) and much more. Wayne Cavanagh of 92.3 Jack FM will broadcast music from the site. “A fun, new event is the NASCAR tire changing competition, said Ferguson. “People can challenge the experts in changing tires on a race car. It is a timed event.
