Compulsory transfer package: On board certain departures of the Sea Adventurer, the 50 Years of Victory and Arctic Watch, you must purchase a compulsory transfer package. This includes charter flight and transfers. Kayaking is an optional extra on most voyages, except North Pole: A$945. Hot air ballooning is an optional extra on all North Pole voyages. The cost is US$295 payable on board. Bookings are required for both and spaces are limited.

DIANNE’S STORY It was Ben Stiller who first inspired my travelling to Greenland – or at least the character he played in The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. Before watching the film, I’d always imagined Greenland as one giant iceberg – not quite the place to excite someone known to shiver at the mere thought of cold. The diversity of sceneries featured in the film, however, piqued my interest. After doing a bit of my own preliminary research, I made a few inquiries, received assurance all cabins were well heated, and booked my passage. The prospect of voyaging to one of the world’s poles in the company of complete strangers was, admittedly, a little daunting for me at first. As someone who usually travelled with family and friends, I worried whether I’d make friends and what my cabin partner would be like. What a waste of time that was! The activities and presentations organised by the expedition crew ensured that everyone was mingling early on, while their constant updates created a sense of common goal and camaraderie between us. The library, with its panoramic windows and early morning coffee and pastries, was also a great place for socialising. For me, the highlight of the trip was seeing Aurora Borealis, the Northern Lights. Witnessing this natural spectacle can of course never be assured, but on our final night at sea, gale force winds struck up, a blood moon appeared… and out they came. Incredible. Other highlights were exploring the coastlines by Zodiac and calling in at the Inuit settlement of Ittoqqrtoormit. I really would recommend a polar adventure to anyone who can handle a bit of cold. The Arctic is cold! Surprisingly, however, this was one of things I ended up enjoying most about my trip. Being so cosy and comfortable in a region so inhospitable really is something wondrous. We aim to get you off the ship as much as possible, with ample time to explore in our fleet of sturdy, inflatable Zodiac boats. By keeping the number of passengers on board to a minimum, all passengers are able to disembark swiftly, easily and safely.

Wildlife discovery

We can arrange pre and post tour accommodation in Longyearbyen, Reykjavik, Ottawa, Yellowknife and Helsinki. Please contact us for more information about availability and prices.

Bird and wildlife watching is the backbone of all our expedition programs. Groups regularly head out in the company of world-renowned naturalists and ornithologists in search of rare and interesting species.

Expedition parka and expedition boots Your expedition parka will be provided. It is designed to withstand the rigours of polar travel and is yours to keep. You will also be provided with rubber boots, on loan, saving space in your suitcase and ensuring you are fully equipped to explore the region.

OPTIONAL ACTIVITIES Hot Air Ballooning

Snowshoeing

Reaching the North Pole is a big thrill, but imagine being one of only a few people in the world to soar high above it in a hot air balloon. Rising as high as 30 metres to get a birdâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s-eye view of the ship and Arctic ice cap below, you canâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t help but gasp at the 360-degree view to all points south. Please note: this is an optional activity and not included in the trip price. It must be booked prior to your journey (spaces are limited) and is highly weather dependent.

Our lightweight snowshoes make it easy to navigate your way across the deep Arctic snow and visit places usually inaccessible on foot. This traditional mode of transport comes from the indigenous people of North America, who constructed them from wood. Nowadays, the shoes are much lighter and more forgiving, allowing you to discover remote alcoves and hidden valleys (not offered on all voyages).

Hiking Hiking is a great way to appreciate the immense landscapes of the Arctic. The tundra comes alive during the brief Arctic summer, with bursts of colour from shrubs and plants. Each hike is different: you might find yourself exploring communities, shorelines or glaciated landscapes and we are often on the lookout for wildlife. Participation is optional and your Expedition Team will advise you of what to expect prior to each excursion.

Kayaking Imagine the tranquillity of gliding across glass-like water with nothing to disturb you but the call of seabirds and the sound of your rolling paddles. All equipment is provided and an experienced kayaking guide will be on hand at all times. Please note: this is an optional activity and not included in the trip price. It must be booked prior to your journey (spaces are limited). Some kayaking experience is essential.

SEA ADVENTURER Those travelling aboard the Sea Adventurer in 2017 will be the first to benefit from the vessel’s $8 million refurbishment. In keeping with the ship’s world-class standing, two new engines are being fitted and all cabins and public areas are receiving an upgrade. Often sighted padding along frozen shores or paddling between ice floes, polar bears are known to frequent Spitsbergen more than any other region in the Arctic. As the world’s largest land predator, polar bears regularly inspire awe among many privileged enough to see them – even our expedition leaders are sometimes left lost for words. No less impressive a spectacle, if one far less distinguished, is that of a walrus haul-out. The sight of thousands of these ungainly beasts clambering ashore and vying for space is one strangely captivating. A little further inland, herds of wild reindeer are often spotted, and sometimes even Arctic Foxes. For bird enthusiasts, Arctic terns, skuas, kittiwakes, long-tailed ducks and ivory gulls are some of the most commonly seen species on the wing.

ICELAND Some of our Arctic adventures begin or end in Iceland, one of the world’s most unusual – and naturally striking – countries. While on your voyage you’ll get to experience the charms of the capital, Reykjavik, we don’t venture to the country’s other riches: its lava fields, glacial rivers, gurgling hot springs, cascading waterfalls, quaint villages and more. Day 1 Embarkation Longyearbyen Longyearbyen is the largest settlement on Spitsbergen. Prepare for incredible mountain views as you embark on this unforgettable adventure. Days 2–8 Exploring Spitsbergen Some of our favourite destinations on the western part of the island include 14th July Glacier, Smeerenburg and the Hinlopen Strait. You’ll also get to explore fjords and outlying islands to the north. From polar flora to immense glaciers, the natural landscape of Spitsbergen is just as varied as its wildlife. Each day we aim to reach destinations that present the best opportunities to spot wildlife.

It’s likely you’ll see polar bears with Hornsund being one of their preferred hunting areas. The cliffs of Alkefjellet are popular with polar bears and the Arctic fox thanks to all the bird eggs. Poolepynton is a great spot for spotting walruses. In terms of activities, optional sea-kayaking excursions allow you to reach some isolated pockets of Spitsbergen. In Smeerenburg you can visit a memorial erected in 1906 to remember the whalers who lost their lives here in the 17th and 18th centuries. Each day you’ll see something new, whether it is a rare bird species or an abandoned hut from centuries ago.

Day 1 Embarkation Longyearbyen Your voyage begins when you board the ship in Longyearbyen, the island’s largest settlement. Enjoy your first view of the island’s rugged, glacier-topped mountains poking up through icy Arctic waters. Days 2-12 Exploring Spitsbergen Expect a new adventure every day while this journey navigates Spitsbergen and its smaller, outlying islands. The variety of wildlife, landscapes and geological formations here is astounding. Every expedition will be unique, but a few of our favourite landing sites include the 14th July Glacier, Ny London, Phippsoya, Aklefjellet and the seldom-visited Kvitoya. For birders, the 14th July Glacier is home to purple sandpipers,

common eiders, barnacle geese and Arctic terns while Alkefjellet hosts colonies of nesting Brunnich guillemots (thick-billed murres). Keep cameras at the ready also at places like Ny London, Sundneset and Alkhornet, where reindeers are often sighted, as well as Phippsoya and Isbukta – two popular hunting grounds for the world’s largest land predator, the polar bear. A big part of appreciating Spitsbergen comes from understanding this area’s local cultures; not just how its people live today, but how this land was first explored and settled. Whaling was a key industry here and you will see blubber ovens and other whaling evidence at landing sites such as Smeerenburg.

Day 1 Embarkation Longyearbyen Your Arctic adventure begins upon boarding your vessel. After checking into your cabin, be sure to take a stroll out on deck to savour views of Longyearbyen’s mountainous backdrop. Days 2-10 Exploring Spitsbergen Cruise around searching for wildlife. This expedition will travel to western Spitsbergen as well as some stunning fjords and outlying islands to the north. From polar deserts to immense glaciers, the natural landscape is just as varied as the wildlife. Each expedition presents new opportunities, so there will be no fixed itinerary; however, our favourite destinations include 14th July Glacier, Smeerenburg, Phippsoya, Alkhornet and the Hinlopen Strait.

Each day’s destinations will be chosen for optimum wildlife viewing and appreciation of the history and geology of Spitsbergen. Seeing polar bears is almost guaranteed, as Phippsoya is one of their favourite hunting grounds. The towering cliffs of Alkefjellet is another, as the eggs laid by seabirds provide many an easy meal for both polar bears and the Arctic fox. Coming across a walrus haulout is a moment you’ll never forget. The noise these graceless creatures produce in vying for plots of coastline is incredible, with Torellneset and Phippsoya great places for catching the action. If you’re keen to explore Spitsbergen’s more isolated pockets at closer quarters, we recommend taking part in the sea-kayak program. Spitsbergen is made up of six national parks, three nature reserves,

one geotopical protected area and 15 bird sanctuaries, ensuring there is an abundance of wilderness to uncover by paddle power. There is no shortage of surprises in Spitsbergen. The tundra can be very colourful in summer, with carpets of wildflower bursting for a taste of sunshine. Each day brings something new, whether this is a rare bird species or abandoned hut from centuries ago. Day 11 Disembarkation Longyearbyen The time to say goodbye has arrived. Spitsbergen is the largest of the Norwegian-ruled Svalbard islands, and exploration reveals abundant wildlife and austere beauty. Bird enthusiasts will be thrilled to see Arctic terns, skuas, long-tailed ducks, kittiwakes and glaucous and ivory gulls. When conditions are right you could sail within 10 degrees of the North Pole!

While touring Greenland’s remote eastern coast, you’ll enjoy Zodiac cruises and shore visits to several locations. Visit the remains of ancient Thule settlements, and keep an eye out for grazing musk oxen – 40 per cent of the world’s population lives here. Sail through spectacular Scoresbysund, the birthplace of many icebergs, and – some say – the most beautiful fjord system in the world.

GREENLAND & CANADA GREENLAND With over 80 per cent of its terrain covered in ice sheet, Greenland is not nearly as green as its name would suggest (some historians claim the land was so-named in an attempt to attract settlers). While the island’s coastline is a varying composition of rock-lined shores, cheerily coloured cottages and verdant tundra, not far inland it’s ice-covered peaks and vast polar deserts as far as the eye can see. Those who entertain a visit to Greenland often presume its icy landscapes incompatible with human habitation, so the communities and archeological sites encountered en route come as a surprise to many. Totally isolated from the rest of the world, Greenland’s earliest inhabitants developed belief systems and survival modes still evidenced in Inuit culture and the ruins of Norse and Thule settlements. The world’s largest island might also be its least densely populated in human terms, but the story’s a very different one when it comes to wildlife. A haven for breaching whales, nesting seabirds, clamorous seals, grazing muskoxen and shorelines of walrus, Greenland’s pristine environs offer plenty of opportunities for seeing some of the Arctic’s most iconic creatures.

CANADIAN ARCTIC Covering an area of more than 1.4 million square kilometres, Canada’s Arctic territory consists of 36,563 islands and several channels so large they’d count as seas in other parts of the world. The region is perhaps best known as the destination that scotched Franklin on his ill-fated quest to chart the Northwest Passage. That the sunken wreck of a ship he captained was only discovered in 2014 stands in testament to the region’s indomitable nature. These days, expeditions into Canada’s northernmost frontiers have come a long way. Aboard some of the finest vessels sailing the poles, you’ll be rounding islands, chugging through fjords, skirting coastlines and sighting whales without compromising on any comforts.

Day 1 Arrive Reykjavik Begin your Arctic Circle adventure in Iceland’s eclectic capital, Reykjavik. Spend the day exploring this city under your own steam, perhaps warming up with a coffee (or shot of Icelandic schnapps!) in one of many cafes or a soak in the local geothermal hot springs.

After breakfast, board a charter flight to the northern Icelandic town of Akureyri. Transfer to the ship, get settled in and meet your Expedition Team, captain and crew. As we set sail, take in your icy new surroundings from deck – be sure to keep binoculars and cameras at the ready in the event of passing whales.

Sail towards Paamiut. Known for its mysterious fog and blend of old and new cultures, the town also has its own guardian: the white-tailed eagle. Legend has it that good luck will come to those who spot it (easy to do, as they’re seen in large numbers here). History and culture buffs will also find plenty to like in Nuuk. Two of the world’s best-preserved mummies can be viewed in the Greenland National Historic Museum, while the Katuaq Culture Centre and Nuuk Art Museum offer intriguing insights into the traditions of this region. For nature fans, there’s also a thousandyear-old nature trail to hike, and fin, humpback, minke and killer whales can often be sighted from shore.

Day 3 Hornvik Sail into the peaceful bay of Hornvik, Iceland’s northernmost point and an area encircled by two of Europe’s largest bird havens. Disembark and hike to the majestic Hornbjarg cliffs, which are dominated by millions of seabirds, such as guillemots, kittiwakes and puffins. Also keep your eyes open for Arctic foxes, as sightings here are common. Day 4 At Sea As you cross the Denmark Strait, your Expedition Team will talk through the wildlife, history and geography of Greenland. Head up on deck and join your crew on the lookout for whales and seabirds, get to know your travel mates, or simply soak up the beauty of your surrounds. DAYS 5 & 6 East Greenland Sail south, dipping beneath the Arctic Circle. We’ll attempt our first Greenlandic shore landing on the island of Ammassalik, one of the most isolated inhabited regions on Earth. Venture into Sermilik Fjord by Zodiac, explore an Arctic ghost town at the abandoned Skjoldungen settlement, and take part in an optional kayaking activity in the Skjoldungen Fjord. Days 7 to 10 South Greenland Ships rarely venture into Lindenow Fjord, the least-occupied fjord in Greenland. Led by your Expedition Team, cruise by Zodiac to an arm of the fjord in search of bearded seals. If ice conditions permit, we’ll explore Prins Christian Sund, which features

Day 12 At sea Sail across the Davis Strait, a major summer feeding ground for walruses and narwhals. On-board presentations by your Expedition Team will prepare you for your upcoming Baffin Island adventures. Make the most of your time at sea learning to identify seabirds, trading tales with your travel mates or simply enjoying the spectacular panoramas on offer. Day 13 Baffin Island Trace the south-eastern coast of Baffin Island, the largest island in Canada and fifth largest in the world. In this land of glacial lakes, wildflowers such as Arctic poppies and purple saxifrage are scattered across the landscape. Your time here will be spent searching for wildlife by Zodiac, hiking on the tundra, and learning about the region’s history and culture through visits to fishing villages and traditional Inuit settlements. Day 14 Pangnirtung & Kekerten Island Dubbed the Switzerland of the Arctic, the Inuit hamlet of Pangnirtung is nestled beneath the frosty peaks of Mount Duval at the

Day 1 Ottawa Welcome to Ottawa, where your Arctic adventure begins. If you arrive early, make the most of the spare hours independently exploring Canada’s capital. Day 2 Embarkation In Iqaluit After breakfast, board a charter flight for Iqaluit, where your first Zodiac ride will transfer you to the ship, cruising over Canada’s powerful tides. Once on board, meet your Expedition Team, the captain and crew. Day 3 Monumental Island Off the southern coast of Baffin Island, this isolated island is completely uninhabited, except for the Arctic animals that call it home. Explore the rugged shoreline in a Zodiac with your team, scouting for hauled-out walruses and polar bears prowling for food. Day 4 Kekerten Island & Pangnirtung Cross the Arctic Circle. Disembark at uninhabited Kekerten Island and wander around the historical remains of a whaling station, abandoned in 1926. Cruise towards Pangnirtung and see why this Inuit hamlet is often called the Switzerland of the Arctic. Tucked beneath the snow-capped peaks of Mount Duval, Pang is also a renowned artists’ haven. Stop at the Uqqurmiut Centre for Arts & Crafts to see traditional tapestries that have attracted worldwide attention for decades. Day 5 At Sea As the ship steams south, enjoy views of the coast of Baffin Island. Today will be spent at sea, so rug up and join the expedition staff on deck as they keep a look out for birds and whales. This is the perfect chance to relax with a glass of wine or hot tea and take in the wondrous beauty around you.

Day 9 Eqip Sermia Today, sail to one of the most breathtaking sights in Greenland: the Eqip Sermia Glacier. From a safe distance, listen to the roar of ice calving into the sea as you round the front of the glacier. Day 10 Ilulissat Have your camera out as you approach Ilulissat. This UNESCO World Heritage site forms the sea mouth of the Sermeq Kujalleq (Jakobshavn Glacier), the fastestmoving glacier in the world, which produces at least ten per cent of all Greenland’s calf ice.

Day 8 Uummannaq & Qilaqitsoq, Greenland In the morning, visit the abandoned settlement of Qilaqitsoq, where a ghoulish discovery was made in 1972: the two graves of eight fully dressed mummies, thought to have drowned circa 1475. The remains of three women and a child are kept at the Greenland National Historic Museum in Nuuk, the Greenlandic capital. Continue on to Uummannaq. Hike the gentle slope beside the town and enjoy panoramic views of icebergs, snow-tipped mountains and the pretty multi-coloured houses below.

Day 11 Itilleq Surrounded by sea, fjords and mountains, the picturesque village of Itilleq is situated on an island with no freshwater source (a local facility desalinates seawater for drinking). The community, whose main trade is fishing and hunting, will welcome us and show us their way of life. You’ll even get to join locals in a soccer match! Day 12 Kangerslussuaq Disembark in Kangerlussuaq, a former US military base. After breakfast, bid farewell to your Expedition Team and shipmates before transferring to the airport for your return charter flight to Ottawa. It’s a real treat spending a night in Reykjavik before setting sail for Greenland. Reykjavik is the world’s northernmost capital city and surrounded by ocean, volcanoes and snow-capped mountains. There’s an artistic vibe with lots of museums and galleries plus plenty of cosy cafes to check out.

Sail through the Denmark Strait on your way to Greenland. There are no shortage of activities to keep you entertained en route, including presentations about the wildlife, history and geography of Greenland from your experienced expedition team.

Day 5 Brogetdal – Waltershausen Glacier

Fly from Reykjavik to the northern Icelandic town of Akureyri, where your expedition to Greenland begins. There’s the chance for some great wildlife sightings as you sail out to sea, including seabirds and whales.

The name Brogetdal means ‘multicoloured valley’ and as you look around the basin at spectacular multi-hued mountains and vistas you’ll see why. You’ll become one of the few people in the world to visit

the imposing Waltershausen Glacier, an 11-kilometre ice floe at the head of Nordfjord. It was named after a German explorer who failed to reach the North Pole via East Greenland in 1869.

Today you’ll visit some of the most scenic valleys in Greenland and perhaps see wildlife including Arctic hare and musk ox. Marvel at the unusual purple and gold coloured rocks at Blomsterbugten, the ‘Bay of Flowers’. Then explore Renbugten, translated as ‘Reindeer Bay’ and named after the herd of reindeer spotted on one of the first expeditions to the valley.

Keep your binoculars handy at Rypefjord, with the chance to see birdlife including wheatears, snow buntings and ravens. We’ll drift past a shallow area known as the Iceberg Graveyard, where hundreds of trapped icebergs provide amazing photo opportunities. It might be hard to imagine icebergs larger than a football field, but wait until you’ve seen the ones crossing Hall Bredning in Scoresbysund. Arriving at Itoqqortoormiit, spend some time among the people of East Greenland’s most northerly community. Day 6 Ella Oya (Ella Island) In its relatively uninhabited history, Ella Oya, located at the mouth of Kempe Fjord, has served as a home to the Danish botanist Thorvald Sorensen and, during WWII, a US base. Dominated by craggy cliffs and colossal icebergs, it’s a great place to head ashore and stretch the legs on dry land.

Meet your fellow travellers and receive your special expedition parka at tonight’s briefing. The parka is yours to keep, and you’ll also be loaned a pair of waterproof boots for the duration of the trip.

The itinerary for the next few days is flexible and can change to accommodate the weather. A typical morning begins after filling up on a hot breakfast. You might get a fun, hands-on introduction to driving ATVs (all-terrain vehicles) or take a short hike to the Cunningham River estuary, which is popular with beluga whales. Hike to the incredible Triple Waterfalls, a five-story torrent of free-falling water, and spot nesting peregrine falcons, loons, snow buntings, sandpipers and roughlegged hawks. There’s a good chance you’ll also see musk ox. Enjoy a Canadian wine with dinner, then take a look around the lodge. Of particular interest is the interpretive centre with its collections of local fossils, skeletal remains of Arctic fauna and traditional Inuit clothing.

Day 2 Yellowknife – Arctic Watch Wilderness Lodge (Somerset Island, Nunavut) Board a private chartered plane for the four-hour, 1,500-kilometre trip to the Arctic Watch Wilderness Lodge (crossing the Arctic Circle on the way). After landing on a private airstrip at Somerset Island, take a short walk across the tundra and ride by raft across the Cunningham River to the lodge. Take a look around and get settled into your cabin, then meet your hosts and find out what’s in store for the next five days.

Day 4 Arctic Watch Wilderness Lodge Today is a great chance to get active exploring the Canadian Arctic. Jump in a kayak on Cunningham Inlet and weave among icebergs in the company of experienced guides who’ll be able to point out ring and bearded seals as well as beluga whales, arctic terns and eider ducks. Enjoy lunch along the shoreline, then take a short hike to Kayak Falls, a local canyon with views of the Northwest Passage and possibly polar bears. Head back to Cunningham River estuary, seasonal home to hundreds of beluga whales. Hopefully you’ll catch a glimpse of them while standing on the riverbank or get to hear their underwater song with the help of a hydrophone. Tonight includes a lecture on the beluga research being conducted in Cunningham Inlet. Day 5 Arctic Watch Wilderness Lodge Hike or travel by Unimog (a multipurpose 4x4 truck) around Flatrock Falls today. Then marvel at the steep canyon walls and prehistoric

animal fossils of Somerset Island. There’s plenty of birdlife to see today, including peregrine falcons, the nesting sites of local terns, plovers and snow geese, and the unique gull rookery at Gull Canyon. Day 6 Arctic Watch Wilderness Lodge Lots of activities are on the cards today, plus a delightful picnic lunch on the beach. Unimog trucks will take you to the Cunningham River for a full day of rafting. If you’re feeling up to it, jump out of the trucks for a six kilometre hike through the Badlands and chance to see some 8,000-year-old whale fossils. Keep an eye out for wildlife, including musk oxen, snow geese, jaegers, Arctic foxes, sandpipers and rough-legged hawks. Your expert guides will prepare the rafts while you enjoy a picnic lunch on the beach; then it’s time to navigate the swift-flowing waters. The rapids are gentle, the water is crystal-clear and you’ll pass incredible scenery along the way. Freshen up back at the lodge before a farewell dinner.

Day 7 Departure Arctic Watch Wilderness Lodge – Yellowknife If there’s time, you can take part in one last activity before leaving the Arctic Watch Wilderness Lodge. Then say goodbye to the staff and head back to Yellowknife for a free afternoon. Day 8 Yellowknife Spend a final breakfast swapping stories with your travel companions before heading home. Alternatively, extend your stay in Yellowknife and try dogsledding or hiking on the Canadian Shield. Day 1 Longyearbyen A member of the Quark Expeditions team will be waiting at Longyearbyen’s airport to transfer you to your hotel. Once settled into your room, head down for a briefing on the current conditions at the Barneo Ice Camp and update on tomorrow’s departure 89° north. Following the meeting, get to know your fellow travellers over a welcome dinner where you’ll also receive your special expedition parka (yours to keep). Day 2 North Pole - Barneo Ice Camp Again accompanied by a member of the Quark Expedition team, transfer to the airport for your flight north by Antonov AN-74 aircraft to Barneo Ice Camp (a journey of approximately 2.5 hours). One of the unique thrills of this expedition is landing on Barneo’s unique runway – a seasonal air strip constructed

each year on a polar ice cap that offers the only external access to the base. Shortly after arrival at camp, enjoy lunch and an introductory welcome briefing. As a functioning research base for scientists and adventurers from all over the world, Barneo is a constant hive of activity. During your stay here you’ll be taking up temporary residency alongside scientists, pilots, mechanics, engineers and explorers. Accommodation is a shared heated tent and there’s tea, coffee and hot cocoa available around the clock. After lunch comes the defining moment of this trip – a flight by Mi8 helicopter to the North Pole. (Please note that, while we aim to land at 90° north, the local weather conditions are closely monitored and your flight will be scheduled accordingly).

Travelling to and touching down upon the eath’s northernmost tip really is an unforgettable experience. The Arctic Ocean is four kilometres deep at this point, and nothing but snow, ice and mist extend as far as the eye can see. Landing times do partly depend on the weather, but you’ll have plenty of time here to savour the scene. Take pictures, toast your trip with a celebratory drink and take a stroll around the world (it doesn’t take long) before making the 30-minute flight back to camp. Day 3 North Pole to Longyearbyen After breakfast, enjoy some spare hours wandering around and taking in the vastness of your surrounds before returning to Longyearbyen. Back in Svalbard’s largest settlement, consider stopping in at the museum or shopping for souvenirs before beginning your journey back to civilisation.

Booking conditions Please read these booking conditions carefully. They set out your agreement with Peregrine and contain important information. We’ve tried to keep the fine print to a minimum, so please bear with us. The Polar trips described in this brochure are operated by Quark Expeditions Inc. for which Peregrine Adventures is a sales agent. All other trips described in this brochure are operated by Peregrine Adventures Pty Ltd trading as Peregrine Adventures, which has its head office in Melbourne, Australia (“Peregrine”). THE CONTRACT These booking conditions contain important information. It is essential that you carefully read and understand them. The booking conditions constitute a legally binding contract between Peregrine and you for the services provided by Peregrine and set out the basis of your legal relationship with Peregrine. If you have any queries regarding these Conditions or do not understand them, please raise your query with a member of our staff. By booking with us and paying the non-refundable deposit as per below amounts, or full payment, you acknowledge that you have read, understood and agree to be legally bound by these cooking conditions. Acceptance of your booking will be confirmed in writing to you or your travel agent, and a contract comes into existence on the date shown on your confirmation letter or email. Deposit amount: $2000 ($6000 for Ice Breaker voyages (50 Years of Victory). For sole occupancy of a cabin the deposit is 1.7 or 2 times the above amount dependent on cabin category. 1) PRICES AND VALIDITY Prices are based on costs and exchange rates applicable when this brochure was printed. Peregrine reserves the right to adjust prices whether or not you have already made full payment. We will do everything with in our control not to adjust prices and will generally only amend prices in the event of marked fluctuations in exchange rates, fuel costs and other operating costs on which prices are based. Airfares (except when otherwise stated), passport and visa fees, travel insurance, excess baggage charges, airport taxes, gratuities to leaders and guides, extra meals, laundry, drinks, medical expenses, optional activities and trips, and any items of a personal nature are not included in your trip price. Air Passenger Duty is included in the price of air inclusive trips. In view of the volatility of world oil prices, a fuel supplement may be added to the price of your holiday at the time of booking. Please note that a levy of up to 2.35% may be applied to all purchases made by credit card. 2) YOUR TRIP AND ASSUMPTION OF RISK Peregrine operates trips in regions where standards of accommodation, transport, safety, hygiene, medical facilities and other infrastructure may, at times, not be of the standard that you are used to at home. By booking with us you acknowledge that participation in all Peregrine trips involves inherent risks that may not be present in the case of conventional or less demanding holidays. These risks include, without limitation, the possibility of injury or death, psychological trauma, disease, loss or damage to property, inconvenience and discomfort. The possibility of experiencing all or some of these risks is likely to be higher if participation in a Peregrine trip involves visiting remote or unstable regions, or regions where there is dangerous wildlife. When assessing whether trips will operate Peregrine uses information from its local offices in conjunction with advice from the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, the British Foreign Office and the US Department of State. It is your responsibility to accustom yourself with the travel advice provided by these government bodies, as well as that of your country of residency, before commencing the trip. By booking with Peregrine you acknowledge your decision to travel on a Peregrine trip is made after due consideration of relevant travel information that may be made available at any time. 3) EXCLUSION OF LIABILITY Except where stated otherwise, Peregrine acts as agent for service providers when making arrangements for your trip. Where Peregrine provides services it will do so with due care and skill. Peregrine is not responsible for the acts and omissions of others, including tour guides, airlines and accommodation providers or for any loss, damage, death, injury or expense (including loss of money paid in advance), which you may incur

as a consequence of the acts and omissions of others. You warrant that you have not relied on any representation made by Peregrine, any travel agent or other Representative, which has not been stated expressly in this brochure. Peregrine will not accept responsibility or liability if you contravene any law or regulation of any country or region visited. Any independent arrangements that you make that are not part of the Peregrine trip (including pre- and post accommodation) are entirely at your own risk and Peregrine cannot and does not give you any assurance, representation or warranty in connection with any such arrangements. To the fullest extent permitted by law and subject to the exception set out below, Peregrine does not accept liability for any loss, death, injury or damage, however caused (including through negligence), which you may directly or indirectly suffer in connection with or arising from this contract or your participation in a trip, or in respect of a failure or omission on the part of Peregrine to comply with its obligations under this contract, or in respect of any other conduct that Peregrine undertakes in connection with a trip. To the fullest extent permitted by law and subject to the exception set out below, you also agree to release Peregrine and its officers, employees, agents and representatives (“Representatives”) from all costs, liability, loss and damage incurred by you in connection with your participation in any trip, and waive any associated claims that you may have against Peregrine or its Representatives as a result of your participation in any trip. For these purposes, Peregrine enters into these booking conditions as trustee or agent for its Representatives. To the fullest extent permitted by law and subject to the exception set out below, any condition or warranty, which would otherwise be implied into these booking conditions is excluded. Where legislation implies any condition or warranty, and that legislation prohibits us from excluding or modifying the application of, or our liability under, any such condition or warranty, that condition or warranty will be deemed included but our liability will be limited for a breach of that condition or warranty to one or more of the following: (a) if the breach relates to goods, (i) the replacement of the goods or the supply of equivalent goods, (ii) the repair of such goods, (iii) the payment of the cost of replacing the goods or of acquiring equivalent goods or (iv) the payment of the cost of having the goods repaired; and (b) if the breach relates to services, (i) the supplying of the services again or (ii) the payment of the cost of having the services supplied again. Exception The “Exclusion of Liability” section set out in these booking conditions does not attempt or purport to exclude, restrict or modify liability arising under, or remedies that may be available to you, pursuant to legislation where the exclusion, restriction or modification of liability or remedies is not permitted. This includes legislation in part of the Trade Practices Act 1974 (Cth), and any state or territory Fair Trading Act (or its equivalent). 4) CANCELLATION BY PEREGRINE Peregrine reserves the right to cancel a departure and will advise you of such cancellations no later than 90 days before the tour departure date. If due to ‘Force Majeure’ or government travel advice, Peregrine reserves the right to cancel a departure at any time. With any form of cancellation, Peregrine will offer you alternative arrangements, and if the price of your alternative booking is of lower value than the original booking we will refund the difference to you. If you do not accept alternative arrangements we will refund all payments you have made to Peregrine, (in case of ‘Force Majeure’ or government travel advice refunds will be less any unrecoverable costs). Peregrine will not be liable for any additional costs incurred by you. Force majeure Peregrine will not be liable for any delay in, change to or cancellation of trips due to ‘Force Majeure’. ‘Force Majeure’ means a circumstance beyond the reasonable control of Peregrine and includes, but is not limited to, war or threat of war, riot, civil strife, terrorist activity, industrial dispute, disease, industrial or nuclear disaster, adverse weather conditions, fire and strikes. 5) CANCELLATION BY YOU If you wish to cancel all or any part of your booking, notification of cancellation must be made to Peregrine in writing. The date of the cancellation is the date on which Peregrine receives written notification. Charges applicable as follows, per person:

90 days or more prior - Full loss of deposit paid. Between 89 days and departure- 100% of total price. If full payment has not yet been received, the full penalty will still apply and any unpaid balance is due immediately. Cancellation fees for air tickets issued by or on behalf of Peregrine will apply as determined by Airline Tariff Regulations, and may vary as to the type of ticket issued. Depending on the reason for your cancellation, these charges may be recoverable under any insurance policy you have purchased. If you do not pay the balance of your total booking by 90 days prior to the trip departure date your booking may be terminated and standard cancellation fees applied. Additional Peregrine cancellation penalties may apply. No refunds will be made if you leave a trip for any reason after the trip has begun. No refunds will be made for any accommodation, transport, sightseeing, meals or services not utilised. 6) BOOKING AMENDMENTS If you wish to change your booking in any way, the following fees will apply: 1. Transfer from one tour to another or name change. Amendment request received by Peregrine 90 days or more prior to the original tour departure date may be possible subject to the following conditions: Transfer only applies for a transfer from one Arctic or Antarctic voyage to another Arctic or Antarctic voyage. An amendment fee of $150 plus any fees levied by the operator is due before a change can be made. Peregrine reserves the right to prohibit amendments between voyages. Amendment request received by Peregrine within 90 days prior to the original tour departure date: charges will apply as per cancellation fees. 2. Amendments to your booking, in relation to any other arrangements made in conjunction with your tour (e.g. pre- and post tour accommodation, transfers, etc.), received by Peregrine within 90 days prior to tour departure date will be subject to a $100 administration fee per change. This fee is in addition to any charges levied by ground operators, hotels or airlines. 3. No amendments are permitted to your booking within 10 days of departure. 7) CHANGES TO YOUR HOLIDAY Due to the nature of these expeditions, weather, ice or government regulations may require changes to be made to your itinerary and/or the cancellation of some shore excursions. Every attempt will be made to adhere to the itineraries described within the limits of safety and time. In the event of changes, participants have no right to any refund or other compensation. Expedition prices are based on group participation. Should you choose not to take part in any activity or make use of any service provided, no refund will be made. Should the advertised tour leader or lecturer be unable to lead the tour due to illness or other reasons, a substitute person shall be found and no refund shall be made as a result of this change. Quark Expeditions reserves the right to substitute the advertised vessel at any time with any other expedition vessel of appropriate standard. The information about trips given in this brochure, Trip Notes and Pre-Departure Information is subject to change. It is your responsibility to review the upto-date Trip Notes and Pre-Departure Information. These can be obtained from Peregrine, Peregrine’s website or your travel agent. The information and conditions in the Trip Notes and Pre-Departure Information are deemed to be part of the contract. Where changes to your trip occur after you have received your final documentation we will, where practical, advise you or your travel agent of such changes. 8) AUTHORITY OF THE LEADER At all times the decision of the Peregrine leader or representative (“Peregrine Leader”) will be final on all matters likely to affect the safety and wellbeing of the trip. This includes any decision that the Peregrine Leader makes about your on-going participation in the trip or certain activities that comprise part of the trip. If you fail to comply with a decision made by a Peregrine Leader, or interfere with the well-being of the group, then the Peregrine Leader reserves the right to terminate this contract and order you to leave the tour immediately, with no right of refund. 9) COMPLAINTS If you have any complaint about your trip, you must make it known at the earliest opportunity to the leader and/or Peregrine local representative, who will normally be able to take appropriate action. If

at the end of the trip you feel your complaint has not been properly dealt with you must notify us in writing within 30 days of the end of your trip. 10) TRAVEL INSURANCE Adequate and valid travel insurance is compulsory for all Peregrine travellers. Your travel insurance must cover accidents, injury, illness and death medical expenses, including any related to preexisting medical conditions, emergency repatriation (including helicopter rescue and air ambulance where applicable) and personal liability. Peregrine also recommends it covers cancellation, curtailment and loss of luggage and personal effects. You must carry proof of insurance with you and produce it if reasonably requested by Peregrine’s employees or suppliers. Peregrine reserves the right to cancel or suspend your participation on a trip or in certain activities that comprise part of a trip, at any time, including after the commencement of your tour, with no right of refund, if you are unable to provide proof of insurance when requested. Travel insurance for Fly/Cruise voyages (Antarctic Express) should cover cancellation if adverse weather means the flight from Punta Arenas to Antarctica is not able to take off causing the trip to be cancelled. 11) PASSPORT AND VISAS It is your responsibility that you carry a valid passport and have obtained the appropriate visas when travelling with Peregrine. Please ensure that your passport is valid for 6 months beyond the duration of your holiday. 12) HEALTH, FITNESS, TRIP GRADES AND AGE LIMITS It is your responsibility to advise Peregrine of any pre-existing medical condition and/or disability that might reasonably be expected to increase the risk of you requiring medical attention, or that might affect the normal conduct of a tour and the enjoyment of other trip members. You are required to provide an assessment of your medical condition from a qualified medical practitioner. Peregrine reserves the right, at its reasonable discretion, to cancel your booking and refund the money paid by you, less any unrecoverable costs. Peregrine also reserves the right to cancel your participation in a trip at any time, including after the commencement of your trip, with no right of refund if your medical condition and/or disability could be reasonably expected to affect the normal conduct of the trip and the enjoyment of other trip members. Peregrine voyages and tours are not recommended for children under the age of sixteen. Children over the age of 8 permitted on Arctic and Antarctic (criteria apply). A legal guardian must accompany all travellers under the age of eighteen. If you have a question regarding age and suitability, please contact Peregrine for further advice. 13) PUBLICITY You agree that Peregrine may use images of you taken during the trip without recourse to you and without compensation to you, for publicity and promotion purposes only through whatever medium it chooses. 14) PRIVACY In order to be able to supply a service to you Peregrine will need to collect certain information from you, some of which may be of a personal nature. The information may be disclosed to, or collected on our behalf by our service providers to enable the services to be provided, but will not be used by them for any other purpose. A copy will be provided on request. Your Cruise Contract or Passenger Ticket Contract detailing these terms and conditions will be issued with your booking confirmation, and must be signed and returned to us within 90 days before departure. Peregrine will not issue your Cruise Contract or of Passenger Ticket Contract, unless you have established to Peregrine that you have obtained appropriate travel insurance. 16) GOVERNING LAW This agreement will be governed by and construed in accordance with the law of Victoria, Australia and each party agrees to submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Victoria, Australia as regards any claim or matter arising under this agreement.
