AHOY THERE

EXPLORERS My whole life, the sea has been my home away from home. I have never imagined a holiday without thinking of the blue waters of the Mediterranean or turquoise colours of the Seychelles. Peregrine Adventure Cruising is a premium travel experience for open-minded, curious explorers seeking adventure at sea. This isn’t your typical cruise. We travel with under 50 passengers, not 5000. There are no onboard casinos or pools; we prefer to spend our time exploring port towns and swimming off the side of the ship. While we visit some well-known landmarks, we also veer off the beaten waves to secluded ports, islands and beaches. Adventure doesn’t have to mean discomfort. Aboard our wide selection of sea-going vessels, passengers are treated to excellent service from an attentive crew, and fresh, locally inspired food and wine. We want you to experience a destination through your eyes, ears and tastebuds. It’s Adventure Cruising at its finest! Last – but certainly not least – we remain faithful to our promise of sustainability by carbon offsetting our trips through renewable energy projects. This is your porthole to the world. Imagine the possibilities. Carpe mare. Filippos Venetopoulos General Manager, Marine

THE SMALL‑SHIP

EXPERIENCE The most memorable travel experiences often occur in the smaller places, the hidden spots and local haunts. With Adventure Cruising, it’s possible to combine these intimate moments with the freedom of ocean travel and the comfort of returning to a well-appointed room each night. Our staff treat you as an individual, not just another sunburnt tourist, and will help you explore everywhere from historic ports, secluded swimming spots and tiny eateries that lie beyond the reach of mega cruisers.

2 // peregrineadventures.com

IT’S ALL ABOUT THE DESTINATION With Adventure Cruising, destination is king. Unlike conventional big ship cruising, which is concerned with life on the boat, Adventure Cruising is all about access: stopping at tiny islands the behemoth cruisers can’t reach, exploring markets and tasting fresh fish, and wandering historic places with a knowledgeable local guide.

SAIL UNCHARTED WATERS Step off the boat and into the centre of town. And if some idyllic, sun-soaked cove appears off the starboard bow, we can spontaneously stop for a swim.

A GREENER WAY TO CRUISE Small ships generate far less waste than a traditional cruise: they’re gentle on local communities and much better for the environment.

ACTIVITIES ON BOARD Forget casinos, bowling alleys or nightclubs; we have direct access to the sea, sun decks, cocktails and fishing equipment.

LOCAL FLAVOURS We believe in travelling on our stomachs, and each onboard menu is tailored to reflect your destination. Onshore, our staff know the best spots for a local meal.

A PERSONAL TOUCH Travel with just 30-50 passengers, not 3000, and get a more personal level of service. You’re known by name, not just by cabin number.

HOME SWEET HOME With air conditioning if you need to cool down, turndown twice a day and a fully equipped laundry service, you’re essentially staying in a 4-star hotel.

peregrineadventures.com // 3

THE PERFECT HOLIDAY   BY LAND AND SEA  Can’t decide whether you’d rather the spontaneity and freedom of our cruises, or the feature stays and immersion that are the hallmark of our original small group tours? Combining a Peregrine Adventure Cruise with a traditional small group tour can create a custom and once-in-a-lifetime adventure. You deserve it all – from the deluxe, furnished tents that rest on stilts in Khao Sok National Park to a barbecue while floating on the shore of Zadar in Croatia.

LOCAL-LED ONSHORE EXCURSIONS On Peregrine’s charter cruises, we often dock overnight so you can enjoy the nightlife and flavour of each port, with the freedom to return to the boat at your leisure. Or we may sail overnight so you can spend more time exploring our next port of call. It’s all about making the most of your journey. Included in the trip price are land excursions with our expert local leaders. These allow you to gain a deeper insight into the places we visit. They’ll take you to the big sites, like the ruins at Delos or Plitvice Lakes National Park, but also to meet local artisans and to secret spots that are rich in history. Local knowledge is a blessing when it comes to things like food. Not only might you enjoy a beach barbecue, picnic, onboard feast or cooking demonstration, you’ll also get advice on where to find the best local cuisine at each stop. Travelling in small groups means you’ll get more attentive service and insider tips from your leader. With Peregrine Adventure Cruising you’re an individual, not just a cabin number.

One of the reasons I chose this particular cruise was the daily excursions. They were really varied and allowed us to have lots of different experiences rather than just a typical walk‑through tour of each town. I particularly loved the smaller towns Stari Grad and Opuzen – fabulous ‘local’ experiences. - Lauren

Cruising Safari: West Africa  DAKAR TO DAKAR

8 days Discover the natural delights of West Africa on this cruise through Banjul and along the Gambia River, where both the water and trees along the bank are teeming with wildlife. Look for hippopotamuses and crocodiles in biodiverse Bao Bolong Wetland Reserve and sail to an island chimpanzee colony. Day 1 Dakar If you arrive with time to spare there is much to see in Senegal’s capital. You can drop your luggage off at port and walk the streets, where gleaming SUVs and rusted motorbikes share the road. Board the Harmony G in the late afternoon, enjoy a welcome dinner and sail to Djiffere overnight. Day 2 Djiffere Awaken at a village port and travel to Fadiouth Island, where everything, from the ground itself to the cemetery, is made from millions of accumulated clam shells. The crunching underfoot makes a nice change of pace from the car horns of Dakar. Later, glide down the Saloum Delta wetlands in a small local

boat and let the squawks guide you to the mangrove thick ‘bird island’. Take a dip, then spend the night anchored in Djiffere. Day 3 Banjul Set sail for Banjul and cross into The Gambia, where the first stop is Kunteh Kinteh, a place with indelible links to the early days of the American slave trade. Tour the ruins and ponder this significant and painful part of history. Dock overnight in Tendaba. Day 4 Tendaba Take a motorised pirogue (small wooden boat) from the ship to Tendaba, then walk on to the bird watchers’ paradise of Kiang West National Park. After lunch, visit the Bao Bolong Wetland Reserve, home to

hippopotamuses, clawless otters, crocodiles and more. Dock overnight in Tendaba. Day 5 Kuntaur Sail to relaxed Kuntaur, where a local boat awaits to ferry you past a chimpanzee colony on a nearby island. More than 100 of the creatures reside here as part of the Chimp Rehabilitation Project, and if you’re lucky you’ll spy a few from the boat. Next, see the Wassu Stone Circles, which were likely erected around AD1305. Their purpose remains unknown, so feel free to speculate and discuss the possibilities with your guide. Spend the evening beneath the stars on the bank of the river, watching a film with the locals and then staying at port.

This sweet and yeasty brew is the perfect accompaniment to the barbecue you’ll enjoy on the beach. Return to Banjul and set sail on an overnight journey. Cruising in the Thai Islands PHUKET TO PHUKET

8 days The Similan Islands, Ko Surin Tai and Khao Lak offer all the hallmarks of Thailand’s idyllic south – the aquamarine Andaman Sea, white sands, limestone oddities and smiling locals – without the glitz and bustle of mainland Phuket. Dine and share stories with locals in small villages, explore jungle- and boulder‑studded shorelines, and swim and snorkel the afternoons away. Day 1 Phuket Arrive in Phuket, meet your shipmates and board the Panorama II in the late afternoon. After your welcome dinner, set sail overnight for Ko Miang, one of the Similan Islands. Day 2 Ko Miang Arrive early in Ko Miang. Renowned among divers for good reason, these isles combine rainforest, white sands and blue waters to dazzling effect. After a morning of swimming, snorkelling, kayaking or paddleboarding, depart mid-afternoon for the short sail to the main group of the Similan Islands. The boat remains at anchor here overnight.

Indonesian Island Cruise BALI TO BALI

8 days Just beyond the ‘Island of the Gods’ lies a vast new world to explore. Embark on a cruise to some of the most enchanting isles of the Indonesian archipelago: the twin paradises of Saringi and Karamat, the dormant volcano and crater lake of Satonda, unspoiled Banta, the Komodo dragon‑filled Rinca, hard‑to‑access Moyo, and Lombok, the sleepy giant just east of Bali. Day 1 Bali Om Swastiastu! Welcome to Bali. The journey begins in Port Benoa, near Kuta. Set sail for Saringi and, after a welcome dinner with fellow travellers, spend the night at sea. Day 2 Saringi & Keramat Islands Begin the journey with a visit to two small, quiet islands lying adjacent to each other, Saringi and Keramat. Travelling by tender, take a transfer there for a day of beach activities – swimming, snorkelling, kayaking or perhaps some stand-up paddleboarding.

Take a short walk to the lake and enjoy a refreshing dip there. An optional walk to a high lookout yields fine photographic opportunities. As the day draws to a close, catch the sunset, then settle in for the overnight sail to Banta Island. Day 4 Banta Island & Rinca Island Banta Island is largely uninhabited and seldom visited, so it will likely be deserted today. There’s an optional hike on offer for those feeling active, and lunch is a barbecue right

Day 5 Rinca Island Led by local rangers, set out on foot in search of the famous Komodo dragons in their natural habitat. Rinca is far less touristy than Komodo Island, so dragon-spotting here is less staged and more natural. Sail overnight from Rinca to Moyo Island, stopping for an afternoon swim en route. GALAPAGOS  ISLANDS  Up in the highlands of Santa Cruz you’ll find Galapagos tortoises milling around (if something so big and slow could be said to ‘mill’), shuffling along in search of their next meal. The picture is so perfect, the tortoises so impeccably framed by lush greenery, it’s as if someone has deliberately placed them there. It’s a feeling that you’ll often get travelling in the Galapagos, almost a thousand kilometres from the South American mainland. It seems every new beach, lagoon, hillside and outcrop you visit is home to an abundance of amazing creatures unperturbed by your presence.

What to know OUR NEW BOUTIQUE YACHT The itineraries featured in this brochure feature our new custom-built yacht, the Grand Queen Beatriz. With a stylish modern design, ensuite bathrooms, outwardfacing windows in all cabins (and private balconies in some), and a jacuzzi on the sundeck, the ‘Queen Bea’ will be one of the newest boats operating in the Galapagos. For more information visit peregrineadventures.com/ grand-queen-beatriz

MEALS Healthy and generous meals are prepared three times a day by the onboard chef. Tea, coffee and purified water are always complimentary, and soft drinks and alcoholic beverages can be purchased at the bar (simply pay your tab at the end). Dietary requirements should be mentioned when booking.

PERMITS In order to best preserve this important and fragile natural ecosystem, the Galapagos National Park authorities restrict the number of visitors to each site by issuing permits to every visiting vessel that determine which sites can be visited each day, and when. Far from restricting the experience, this system actually enhances it as itineraries are designed to eliminate the amount of vessel crossover. This results in witnessing more of the wildlife you’ve come to see without vying with boatloads of other tourists.

LUGGAGE There are luggage limits that apply to the flight to and from the Galapagos. As your trip starts and finishes at the same hotel in Quito, we suggest only bringing essential items and leaving your other luggage in the secure hotel storage.

TIPPING If you have enjoyed the services of your guide and crew, a tip is always much appreciated by them. We recommend each passenger consider a daily tip of USD 15 for the crew and USD 10 for your guide.

SNORKELLING GEAR Snorkelling equipment (mask, snorkel and flippers) and wetsuits are provided at no extra charge. A range of sizes and wetsuit lengths are available.

NATIONAL PARK AND PORT FEES A transit card fee of USD 20 is to be paid prior to departure from Quito Airport and a national park fee of USD 100 is to be paid on arrival on the Galapagos Islands. These fees are to be paid locally in cash and are not included in the trip price. Trips visiting Isabela Island incur a USD 5 port fee payable on arrival.

PREMIUM ADVENTURES IN ALL FORMS One thing we’ve learned is that you never outgrow adventure – the spirit that drives you to get out there and see the world. Whether it be a small-ship cruise around Iceland or a tour through the heart of Cuba, we’re all for premium adventures. For us, that means embracing the spirit of adventure through a more immersive cultural journey. Peregrine delivers more than 350 unique itineraries in over 80 destinations across the globe.

LOOKING FOR A LITTLE MORE ADVENTURE? Peregrine also offers a number of small-ship tours that take you to the most remote parts of our world – a terrain ruled entirely by nature. See walruses, penguins and polar bears playing in untouched surrounds, and the magnificent natural wonders of fjords, icebergs and the aurora. The air may be cold and the environment harsh, but after getting your fill of the sights and sounds you’ll have our luxury ships to call home. With well-trained and responsible leaders, your polar ventures will be informative, exhilarating and – most of all – life-changing. GUARANTEED DEPARTURES All of Peregrine’s tours are guaranteed to depart (subject to the standard terms and conditions), so you can confidently arrange your time away from home, flights, and other travel, safe in the knowledge the trip will run as scheduled. We encourage you to book your adventure as early as possible, particularly during peak seasons.
