WELCOME TO THE WILD Hi my name is Pogo, and I am here to guide you through this activity book! I have lots of colourful animal friends made out of many different soft materials and I am going to teach you all about them! Now let’s go on a safari into the wild with Troy Emery, meeting new friends and learning about animals and art along the way! The four symbols below will tell you what to do in each activity:

Look out for this symbol and come back to this page to check the meaning of a word. ooSoft Sculpture: A type of sculpture made using cloth, foam, rubber, plastic, paper, fibres and similar materials that are supple and non-rigid. ooDecorate: To make something more attractive by adding extra items or images to it. ooRepresentation: The depiction of something or someone in a work of art. ooPattern: A repeated design.
ooExaggerate: To make something larger than it really is. ooObject: A material item that can be seen and touched. ooTaxidermy: The art of preparing and mounting the skins of animals to appear real. ooVibrant: Full of energy and life, bright and striking. ooTexture: The tactile feel and visual appearance of a surface. ooSurface: The outside layer of something. ooPrimary colours: A colour that can be combined to make secondary colours.
ooSecondary colour: A colour made by mixing two primary colours. ooTertiary colour: A colour made by mixing a primary colour with a secondary colour, or by mixing two secondary colours. ooComplementary colour: Colours that are opposite to each other, and that when put together enhance the other. ooFashion: A popular or the latest style of clothing, hair, decoration or behaviour. ooAnimal: Any living thing that is not a human being, that has senses, nerves, responds rapidly - and is also not a plant! ooMythology: Ancient myths in general; the ancient myths of a particular culture or society. ooAgriculture: The science or practice of farming, including cultivation of the soil for the growing of crops and the rearing of animals to provide food, wool and other products. ooCreation stories: Symbolic takes of how the world began, and how people first came to be in it. ooTotem: A natural object or animal that is believed to have spiritual meaning, and is used as a symbol.

FEEL-GOOD COLOURS It’s not easy matching colours together to make them look good! Look at Troy Emery’s drawing and colour pattern in Black Hole II (below) and think about why it is so pleasing to look at. Consider the colour wheel and complementary colours .

SPOT THE ANIMALS! On no! Some of my friends have lost their colours! To help them get their colours back find them in the Gallery and match their shape to the animal. Once you have found them, colour them so they are back to their true colours!
