A gorgeous pattern with lots of tempting drinks and some fabulous watercolor cocktails. We have built a small cocktail story around her prints. This is a simple, happy and light-hearted recipe for the good life, and the good life is what inspires us the most. It is all about finding joy or just creating moments of joy - that's what it's all about.

Our very first quote in RICE was: LIVE LOVE LAUGH… We consider this a basic recipe for living a RICE life. These words have lasted for 20 years – so you could say that we are staying true to ourselves. Sometimes we all get a bit lost - and therefore it is necessary to reconnect to the basic values again. This collection is a result of travel, life, eating and drinking... Last summer I went to Mallorca for a long weekend with my daughter Selma - she was 16 at the time. We took time to wander the streets of Palma - did a load of Eat and Drink… not so much Boogie though, as we were there to relax and reload in between lots of graduation parties. We stayed in a very nice hotel but dreamt of a house that would ooze coziness, relaxation and tropical fun… and this is what we have tried to create in this collection. The colors of Mallorca - the lifestyle and the cozy feeling of just hanging out, have all been huge sources of inspiration for this collection... Selma has made several prints and patterns for this collection - but much more about that on pages 22.

Why do I love Paris?

I love Paris in the springtime… I love Paris in the fall, song by Cole Porter. We feel that Paris deserves a standing ovation. There is something magical and alluring about this city… Personally I have spent 15 years of my life there, and even though it sometimes feels like it never really happened, it is a fact. My husband was born there, and my son also. I loved living there and hope to come back again someday, and have yet another chapter of my life in this city of love. This city is one big tribute to eat, drink, boogie - repeat… We are proud to present this lovely print and I for one cannot wait to get a bit of Paris at my table every day… If you can’t bring the girl to Paris - bring Paris to the girl! We love a relaxed tropical vibe, but since we live in Scandinavia, we have to create that kind of atmosphere ourselves. A little bit of bamboo… some items with a driftwood look… teamed up with chairs in bright colors and lots and lots of tropical plants... and there you go... the basic frame is ready and all you have to do is fill in the blanks.

Organic looking vases, raffia baskets as flower pots (remember the saucer), anything palm tree shaped you can get your hands on, maybe a monkey candle holder as a humorous touch. And lovely string lights - the more the better… it almost feels like being in the Caribbean. I can almost hear the calypso rhythms.

This season we clearly have a thing for lush green hues... everything from pastel green to dark and dreamy jade goes. The Watercolor Splash print featured on this page is so simple and yet so delicate and one of the prints hand painted by my daughter Selma. Melamine just mixes so well with other kinds of materials.

My childhood street was called Lupin street... My wedding bouquet was full of lupins. Every year I go and pick lupins at a secret place where they come in every color imaginable – it is actually so secret I can’t even tell you where it is...

It is quite safe to say that lupins are one of my absolute favorite flowers. It is soft, delicate – and being a self-seeding perennial it comes back year after year… So when one of our lovely freelance designers, Ane, introduced us to this lovely hand-painted print, there was no doubt at all... It had to be a part of our lives and collection. Oh the joy of spending a day or just a few hours gazing into the sky doing absolutely nothing, but letting your thoughts wander as they like. If you go all in on string lights it feels almost like looking into a starry sky when the night falls. A little mindful pampering like this works wonders for your soul and energy level. When I allow myself to completely relax and let all remotely practical thoughts go - these are the times that I get some of my best ideas…

My gorgeous

Selma has made her first prints for RICE. Since she was a little girl she has always been very good with a paint brush. I do not know where she gets this talent from, not from me for sure. Her first painting was of our old dog - the title was ’Rosa and the pooh’. I have to add that she was 3 years old at the time. The flamingo was a Christmas present to me when she was 10. And now these lovely watercolor paintings have been turned into a small party collection, and some fun drinks glasses. In case you haven’t noticed already, I am so proud of her. I hope you will take it to heart and we cross our fingers that this will be the beginning of a long line of prints and products from Selma's hand.

RICE Life Inspiration

moving on -

moving out… My 19 year old son Max has moved to Luxem-

bourg for 1 year - to work as an apprentice for a new banking start-up. When the year is over his plan is to study in Copenhagen. I have had a serious case of empty nest syndrome that has taken me by surprise - and I am still not over it… The fact that our time as a family unit of 4 is over, has been so difficult for me to accept.

But it is time for him to venture into the World and create his own life and future. If I think back on my own youth I did the same… with the ink barely dry on my driver's license I was off to seek new adventures. Adventures that resulted in a husband, 2 gorgeous kids and RICE. We turned our kids into happy strong independent young people - so that part is definitely a success. But oh my… I did not expect this taste of success to be so bittersweet. But… in the midst of someone moving out – someone new has just moved in… A new addition to the family – our sweet RICE puppy, Stella Spotlight. She keeps us all very busy with puppy shenanigans – it almost feels like the circle of life is starting all over at the house of RICE…

A disco ball is always a good idea!!

Some of you might know this van - it is my wedding ring on wheels.

This summer we have been married for 25 years, meaning that we have owned this van for the same amount of time. Everybody thought I was a bit crazy as I really wanted this van instead of a ring. We have used it for driving around in France and some of our best holidays were held in this. I have lost count of the number of times it has been painted and redone insideâ&#x20AC;Ś I am so in love with this new version in dark green and pink - and with our own glitter wallpaper in the roof.

Each collection brings new temptations and must-haves. We who work at RICE try to be a bit clever about how we go about our private shopping. HOPE IS BRIGHT

SEND ME TO SCHOOL

We do business with a ♥ - With hope for a bright and better future…

Our wish is not only to support children in need – we want to provide them with hope for a bright and better future. For the second year in a row we proudly support UNICEF’s work in emergencies, and together we are making a difference for children at risk. The Hope is Bright collection consists of some of our favorite products, carefully selected to bring Everyday Magic into homes all over the world. For every Hope is Bright product sold, together we donate 1.5 EUR. – these 1.5 EUR can provide 1800 L of clean water or provide 1 days ration of therapeutic food to a child in need.

In 2008 the cyclone Nargis hit the south west part of Myanmar – leaving a trail of destruction in its wake. By making a range of kids products we raised enough money to build a school so kids could get back in the classrooms – improving their future chances of education. The school also functions as a shelter for the entire community in case of natural disasters.

CUPS OF HOPE

RICE supports UNICEF’s work in emergencies. Part of this effort involves providing clean water to children in crisis situations all over the world. The aim of Cups of Hope is to give hope to children in need. For every Cups of Hope set sold, together we support UNICEF’s work in emergencies with a donation of EUR 1,5. With EUR 1,5 UNICEF can provide 1800 L of clean water to children in need. Our collaboration with UNICEF in 2017 has been a huge success! In one year we have sold enough products to provide 66,000 children with clean water for an entire month. This equals to 9,9 million liters of clean water! We are so excited that this great collaboration will continue in 2018...

DANISH HOSPITAL CLOWNS PROJECT

By designing a special cup and plate, RICE provides a financial contribution to the Danish HospitalClowns. Their task is to make the hospitalization for kids a little easier to get through. Humor and close personal presence make room for hapiness and allow the kids to be “just kids”, in spite of being seriously ill. We also donated RICE play kits for 27 pediatric wards in Danish Hospitals.

SPOON FULL OF HOPE

RICE launched the gift idea, “Spoon Full of Hope” in cooperation with the Danish Refugee Council. Each spoon sold donated a cooking set to a family on the run in Darfur and Somalia.

SAFE CHILDHOOD IN VIETNAM

We have helped sponsor an educational program that teaches children how to tackle and avoid explosives still remaining in the ground after the Vietnam War. The project was run by The Danish Refugee Council. Giving children in Vietnam a safe childhood was our way of celebrating the 25th. Anniversary of Convention on the Rights of the Child in 2014.

CUPS FULL OF HOPE

4 melamine drinking cups, specially designed by RICE for this project. Every time a pack of these cups was sold, a refugee family in Africa received a Water and Washing Kit.

DANISH RED CROSS PROJECT LITTLE BOX OF HOPE

In 2016 we supported the Red Cross and the work they do worldwide for the refugees across the globe. We strongly believe in the effort of improving the lives of people on the run , and the aim of the LITTLE BOX OF HOPE food kit was to give hope to the people in need. We wished that the LITTLE BOX OF HOPE would create awareness of the refugees and encourage people to take action. For every food kit (6 funky foodboxes and 6 colorful spoons) sold, we donated 1,5 EUR to the Red Cross.

SPOON FULL OF HOPE II

We redesigned the Spoon full of Hope and this time the sale of one spoon equaled 24 servings of soup. We sold 3752 spoons.

SPOON FULL OF HOPE III

Our latest cooperation with the Danish Refugee Council was yet another spoon. With this spoon we helped provide clean water for 10 refugees in Africa for 28 days!

SUSBIZ INDIA

During 2007 – 2009 RICE participated in the Susbiz project along with one of our suppliers in New Delhi, India. The goal of the project was to develop and implement social and environmental initiatives in the supplier’s company and share knowledge about the process.

As a Club 10 ambassador in 2009 Charlotte and RICE made an all-day event with über-banko, book cafe, hairdressing, palm reading, massage, concerts and delicious food stalls etc. The purpose was to raise as much money as possible for Danish Red Cross.

JHEEL - JAIPUR

RICE entered a three year project, in cooperation with Danida to improve conditions for the workers in the factory. Now the conditions comply with SA8000 standards. Environmental responsibility has also been of concern to the supplier and they have constructed a wastewater cleaning system reducing the environmental impact.

LAKSHYA

Our cooperation with our supplier Lakshya, started out as a three years development project for street children. The goal was to build a production supporting an orphanage for street children. During the project RICE donated a monthly amount of financial support and placed orders regularly. The establishment of Lakshya secured an education for the New Delhi street children, as well as housing and the opportunity to remain in Lakshya as employees.

We would like to share all there is to know about our products – how they are made and how to take good care of them. This way you will be able to enjoy them for a long time! FOOD SAFETY Many of our products are intended for food and beverages, and it is our great honor and commitment to stay on top of the latest rules and regulations. We ensure this by using international testing agencies who work independently from our suppliers and this way we guarantee all products are tested according to FDA and EU regulations. Good to know: use and care symbols: We want to make it as easy as possible for you to know how to handle our products. The following symbols occur either as a back stamp on the product or as a sticker. THE ORIGINAL RICE MELAMINE We love the material and the many possibilities it holds, and it truly embraces the cornerstone of our philosophy; Fun, Funky and Functional. The quality of RICE melamine is the highest available and this is of great importance to us. You can identify RICE melamine products by the hologram sticker stating this is the Original RICE Quality. So look out for our ‘Original RICE Quality’ sticker to be sure to get the very best quality. Melamine can break if exposed to hard shock - please check for cracks and discard the product if any are found. Over time, melamine products can age and obtain a matte finish – products with a very matte finish should be discarded. We recommend to always wash your melamine product before use. Please note... Our lovely tall cups (melcu-L...) are only suitable for drinks up to max 70°, so do not use it for boiling water. RICE cake forks as well as latte-, table-, and teaspoons are only recommended for children above the age of 3. For babies we recommend the cute RICE kid’s cutlery! Melamine tableware symbols:

CERAMICS A beautiful selection of handmade ceramics made in Portugal. We call it earthenware and stoneware. Earthenware Our beautiful ceramic tableware in nice bright colors is made of earthenware. Earthenware will chip when roughly handled, so handle with care. Stoneware RICE oven dishes are made of stoneware. Please don’t expose the oven dishes to more than 240° Celsius. Our recommendation is to never put the oven dishes straight from the freezer and into the oven as the thermal shock might cause it to crack. The glazing is a fine process and on some items you will find small irregularities shown as holes in the glazing. This presents no danger to the durability of the product. PLASTIC Food boxes, containers, food keepers, and plastic boxes… it goes by many names! All RICE products intended for food and beverages are of course free from phthalates and BPA. This means that you can safely use all these products for your kids… and for everyone else! Some plastic products are suitable for the microwave, but it is clearly stated on each product • Most plastic products are suitable for dishwasher, but please note that some products need to be placed on top shelf – this is clearly stated on each product •

Over time plastic products can age and might crack and fade, and obtain a matte finish… We recommend to discard the product if this occurs. RAFFIA We have a large selection of raffia products. Raffia fibers come from palm fronds which truly thrive on Madagascar. The raffia products are all handmade. Raffia varies in color from nature and this variation is reflected in the coloring. This means two baskets are never quite alike - this is part of the product’s charm.

FURNITURE Our RICE furniture is made in Europe – and made to order. If you are interested in buying our wonderful furniture contact your RICE Sales Manager. Materials: The feet of the furniture are made of oak painted with acrylic enamel.

We dye the raffia with Basic Dye, which is free from AZO. If constantly exposed to sunlight, the colors will fade. Also the color can rub off if the product becomes wet, so we recommend you to handle every piece with love and care.

The wheels are made of chrome-plated brass.

The base of the chair is made of pine wood and chipboard.

The stuffing of the chair is VP 25 foam on the backside and arm rests and fiberfill on the seating surface.

Our furniture is produced in two different kinds of textile. Both kinds are treated with nano protection: • Microfiber: 70% Polyester, 30% Poliamid • 90% Polyester, 10% Nylon

WOODEN PRODUCTS We just love wood combined with colors! We use different kinds of wood for our products, and all of them have to be washed by hand. This means that wooden RICE products are not dishwasher safe. For extra care: Oiling your wooden product helps it fend off odors and stains, and it makes it easier to wash. Wooden product symbols: This product is not dishwasher safe

Stain removal When cleaning the fabric of stains, we recommend you to use a kitchen towel. Use hot water with non-colored soap and remove the stain by rubbing it in a circular motion with a brush or cloth. Remember to always rub inwards so the stain does not spread. Wipe off with a clean cloth until it is dry and brush the fabric so the pile rises again.
