Somewhere between a verse-by-verse commentary and the Apostolic Study Bible, the Apostolic Handbook Series brings a two- to four-thousand-yearold text to life with fresh application to our lives and the church today. You will find insights on the culture, language, and history of Israel, the gospel of Jesus Christ, and the church of the first century, all thoroughly grounded by Apostolic writers. In this volume, Jeremy Painter plumbs the depth and traverses the wide range of emotional and theological content of the five poetic books of wisdom literature. The author explores the intricate complexity of questions of suffering in Job, the praises and laments of Psalms, the wisdom of Proverbs, and concludes with clear and purposeful readings of Ecclesiastes and the Song of Solomon. We are not always provided easy answers while reading these books of the Bible, but this handbook serves as a kind of tour guide to lead us along the path.

MORE THAN GRASSHOPPERS

CREATED IN THE IMAGE OF GOD Who are you? This age-old question haunts people of every walk of life as we seek to understand our identity and purpose. This book answers that question. By seeing ourselves as Jesus sees us—loved by Him, made in His image, empowered by the Holy Ghost, and equipped with spiritual gifts—we can triumphantly live out the purpose He has for our lives.

Joel Alexander is a student pastor at Cornerstone Pentecostal Church and serves the Florida District in various capacities. This brother-sister team hold ministerial credentials with the UPCI and are passionate about helping people discover their Apostolic identity.

Ministering in a Multicultural World

ministering in a multicultural world In recent years, Multicultural Ministries has ministered to dozens of culture groups in North America. This publication provides the reader with a brief and accessible introduction to some of these culture groups.

Lee Ann Alexander Joel Alexander

“We don’t send missionaries in order to convert people to American or Canadian culture but to convert them to Jesus Christ in the power of the Holy Spirit. Likewise, when we minister to immigrants and ethnic minorities in our own country, our goal is not to make them conform to certain social expectations but to win them to the Lord. . . . To win souls, Paul varied his methods depending on cultural factors while remaining true to God’s Word. May God grant us wisdom to do the same today.”

|

“The Epistle of James tells us that when we look into the mirror of God’s Word, it is possible for us to quickly forget the image seen there. We can walk away and forget just how God views us. In More Than Grasshoppers the authors hold that mirror up before us for a second look. Through the unique perspective of a brother and sister, the Alexanders remind us of just how profoundly the Father loves us, warts and all. In that they have done every child of God an invaluable service.”

How to Get to Heaven

Any person wanting to know what the Bible has to say about women in ministry should read and study this book. “In penning He Called Her, Daniel Koren has undertaken the sensitive subject of women in the ministry. He has not come to his conclusions lightly; rather, by his own admission, this book is the culmination of his personal journey of discovery and discipleship. I admire his honesty in addressing his own preconceptions and appreciate the sincerity and passion with which he has presented his case to three readers: the male minister who wants to lead his congregation according to biblical principles regarding women in ministry, the woman who is seeking understanding about what the call of God might mean to her, and the church member who might be in the position to listen to or submit to a woman in ministry.” – Janice Sjostrand, from the preface

LEADING GROWTH

The early church did not focus on church growth. Instead, the church was centered on discipling people, helping people grow. Consequently, the Lord added daily to the church such as should be saved. And, the church grew exponentially. In Leading Growth, Dr. Eugene T. Wilson challenges church leaders to consider a biblical model for growth—one that is focused on helping people grow. Dr. Wilson also addresses the importance of strategic thinking and shares insight into the simple, but crucial, areas in which leaders must grow personally in order to lead growth.

DR. EUGENE T. WILSON

DR. EUGENE WILSON is an ordained minister

with thirty years of pastoral experience, including senior pastor. He received his doctor of strategic leadership degree from Regent University and he currently serves as executive pastor at The Pentecostals of Katy, Texas. Dr. Wilson is also the founder of Equipping Leaders, a coaching and consulting organization. He and his wife, Kerri, have two children.

A Piece Of My Mind

This volume is a collection of Simeon Young’s best editorials from his tenure as the editor of the Pentecostal Herald. Remaining as relevant today as they were when month by month he worked with words to simply and clearly communicate a facet of truth. The message of A Piece of My Mind will inspire and challenge you in your daily Christian walk.

A Piece of My Mind

Simeon Young Sr. is more than an editor. Every month for more than a decade, he has laid aside his editor’s pen and picked up his writer’s pen. Each month he crafted a column that was often witty, but always insightful. He has demonstrated much can be said on a single page. He always remained a student of the writing craft, looking to improve his innate abilities. But he doesn’t write to practice a craft. He writes to communicate truth. I am confident you will enjoy a piece of Simeon Young’s mind. I know I did.

Simeon Young Sr.

Robin Johnston Editor in Chief United Pentecostal Church International

Simeon Young Sr.

Simeon Young Sr. preached his first sermon in Napa, California, on October 26, 1957, and has held ministerial credentials with the United Pentecostal Church since 1958. He served as pastor of King’s Highway Tabernacle in Terre Haute for thirty-five years. He served as editor of three magazines—Indiana Apostolic Trumpet, Apostolic World Report, and Pentecostal Herald. DESPITE ALL OF our technological advances, the proliferation of educational institutions, and our increased scientific insight into the learning processes, experience is still the best teacher. Experience teaches one to read between the lines, to learn the exceptions to the rules, and to ask the questions that strike at the heart of a matter. These nuggets of knowledge may be simulated in classrooms, but the only way the lessons may be effectively communicated is for the student to go through the raw experience in an actual, personal way. In They Probably Told Me, But I Wasn’t Listening J. Mark Jordan shares his own personal experiences and consequential wisdom with today’s young ministers. Covering topics such as “The Evolution of a Minister.” “Pastoring in the Twenty-First Century.” and “What Will You Do When You Stop Pastoring?” this book is excellent guide to all who are willing to listen.

Order My Steps is a must read, filled with inspiration and humor. You will laugh and cry as you make this fascinating journey with Paul and Shirley Dennis. From Paul’s service as a fire and rescue team leader in the United States Air Force to his work in training and leading hundreds of capable ministers of the gospel, his life is a reflection of another Paul known to most Christians as the apostle Paul. This book will give you the inside story of a totally dedicated couple and their world-encompassing outward vision that ordered their steps. My life has been enriched and bountifully blessed because of personal experiences with the Dennises in the mission field of Asia and in the warmth of their home. Antonius Maximus and Theudas ben Yair have escaped the sands of the Colosseum only to find themselves on a far deadlier battlefield. The entire Roman Empire is wracked with civil war as four would-be emperors vie for the imperial throne. “The Parthian horse archers loosed shaft after shaft as they galloped forward and then veered across the front of the Roman formation, seeking chinks in the unit’s protective wall. Just to Antonius’s left an arrow fired pointblank penetrated the shield of a fellow Roman legionnaire and he fell, the gap he left instantly peppered with feathered shafts. More soldiers fell, and the gap was widening. Kicking heels to their horses with wild war cries, the cavalry charged straight toward the break in the line. Antonius sensed the men around him hesitating, shying back from the hail of arrows whistling into the gap in their lines. He could see the cavalry pounding towards them, spears leveled, long scimitars upraised, and knew there was no time. ‘To me!’ he shouted and sprang into the gap, eagle standard thrust at the sky.”

THE DIARY DILEMMA: an Ariel Hartman mystery

Ariel Hartman, the seventhgrade super sleuth, is drawn into a mystery that dates back nearly two-hundred-fifty years. A rare diary written by a soldier during the American Revolution is stolen from the Summerville Museum, and Ariel’s classmate may have witnessed the crime. The diary contains a page autographed by George Washington that is believed to be the motive for the theft. Ariel must learn the origin of the diary to understand its true worth. More than a just children’s “whodunit”, the major points of the Book of Galatians are woven into the plot. At the end, the reader plays detective in search of the similarities between the story and the epistle.

FREEMAN

Nona Eastridge Freeman, daughter of Earl and Carrie Eastridge, married E. L. Freeman, affectionately known as “Bug,” on August 26, 1937. In the years ahead, they had five children: Sandra, Dale, Lynda, Sharon, and Marla. In 1948, after serving and pastoring several churches, they began their forty-sixyear mission of service, ministry, and outreach to the continent of Africa, first as missionaries, then later as regional field supervisors. Known for her commitment to praise Jesus and give thanks in any and all situations, Nona witnessed the miraculous hand of God in many ways. Upon returning to the United States in 1989, the Freemans ministered in churches across the nation. The stories they shared built faith, and Nona began compiling their memories and stories into books that could be shared all over the world. In 1999, Bug was called home to be with the Lord, and Nona continued to minister in the United States and other countries. True to her pledge to go where the Lord led, she traveled a majority of the time, spending hours on planes and in airports. In 2009, Nona celebrated seventy years of ministry. On December 26, 2009, Nona died peacefully and in the presence of the Lord in her home in Fort Worth, Texas. She was ninety-three years old.

Daniel L. Segraves, PhD, combines keen biblical insights with the reality of life in this present world to help the reader wrestle with the all-too-familiar experience of suffering and pain. While this book obviously will not take away your suffering, it will, however, help you effectively grasp some lessons it might teach.

Reading Between the Lines

Daniel L. Segraves

Daniel L. Segraves

Segraves clearly demonstrates how the New Testament writers used the Old Testament to reveal Jesus Christ. It will not only transform your opinion of the Old Testament from that of a history of the people of Israel to a living testimony of Jesus Christ; it will also strengthen your understanding of the Oneness of God.

It was a thrill to record these lessons for Hope University, which was the teaching format for the radio broadcast of the Media Missions Division of the United Pentecostal Church International. Daniel Segraves is extremely articulate. This book will indeed increase your faith immeasurably as you “Discover Christ in the Old Testament.” When you finish reading this book, DO NOT place it on a shelf—it is a “MUST SHARE” book!

he happy and secure life of Clarissa Hayes is turned upside down when her Aunt Kate is seriously injured. Fortunately a handsome stranger, Dr. Stephan Grant, enters their lives. Stranded in the little Texas town of Progress because of the severe storm, Stephan works diligently to offer his medical services to Kate and in the process finds that he is unexpectedly drawn to the pretty, petite Clarissa. Uncertain of the future and surrounded by many obstacles, the Hayes family learns to depend on the guiding hand of the Savior.

His Guiding Hand is the second book in “The Guidance Series” and the sequel to Love’s Guiding Light. In the 1980s Karla and I would laugh and talk about becoming famous authors some day and to her credit she has done just that! This is her third book and her second in “The Guidance Series.” As with the characters in her book, His Guiding Hand, she and her husband, Mark, have taught their three very gifted and talented daughters to look to God for guidance in their lives. You will find that their Christian outlook is threaded through the pages of this series. You will want to follow the Hayes family as they accept tragedy and triumph in their lives. You will not want to miss this second book of “The Guidance Series” and be sure to look for the third book to be published soon. The importance of an accurate, thorough understanding of the Bible—God’s timeless Word to humanity—cannot be emphasized enough. In its own words: “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works” (II Timothy 3:16-17).

Water from an Old Well

Bible Doctrines and Study Guide

In striving to be that “perfect, thoroughly furnished” Christian, we need a firm grasp on biblical teachings, or doctrines, and a clear picture of their applications to our lives. To aid in this pursuit, Bible Doctrines and Study Guide presents a summary of fundamental teachings of the Bible. This collection includes the following: 1. Essential Doctrines of the Bible – a careful examination of eleven major doctrines of Christianity

TF Tenney

2. Apostolic Faith Bible Study – a two-lesson exploration of the New Testament church’s teachings with review questions at the end of each lesson

3. An Overview of Basic Doctrines – a study outline of over fifty Bible topics with a wealth of Scripture references

Compiled from the writings of noted Oneness Pentecostal scholar David K. Bernard, general superintendent of the United Pentecostal Church International, this resource establishes the biblical position on major topics of Christian faith, using Scriptures to address each point. From its opening argument for the existence of God to Christian living principles on stewardship to the closing chapter on eternity, this resource provides a credible—and most importantly—scriptural approach to understanding the Bible.

n October 29, 1965, a young North American couple in their mid twenties invaded Manaus, Brazil. The city of 180,000 Brazilians took no note of these foreign folk who spoke not a word of their language and who knew no one in town. When the couple arrived, not one other person in the whole of the Amazon Basin knew anything about repentance, baptism in Jesus’ name, or the infilling of the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking in tongues as the Spirit gives utterance. Today, over 650 UPC churches, 40,000 saints, and 35 Bible schools cover many areas of that vast jungle basin. Missionaries Bennie and Theresa DeMerchant weep in humble thanksgiving over what the Lord has done as a result of their labor in Brazil, but now, 43 years later, they are still working the way they always have—full throttle.

SERIES 2: DEVELOPING SPIRITUAL DISCIPLINES Writer: Seth Simmons

Because we have been called into covenant, we have the privilege of deepening our relationship with Jesus Christ through spiritual disciplines. In this study, believers will be challenged to grow in prayer, sacrifice, commitment to learning the Word, and faithfulness in worship.

SERIES 3: THE MASQUERADE OF SIN Writer: Eugene Wilson

Because Satan masquerades the destructive nature of sin, we must be honest with ourselves about the carnage sin brings. Our society attempts to sensationalize sin. This series will unveil the reality of sin and empower believers with ways to guard against sin as well as reminding us of the ultimate hope: that we can have our sins remitted by Jesus’ atoning sacrifice.

WORD AFLAME SUMMER CURRICULUM

TODDLER Summer Topic: Mighty Men of God (Old Testament Bible Character Studies) Summer Décor Theme: Treasure Island This quarter explores the miracles God did through Elijah, Elisha, Daniel, the three Hebrew children, and Jonah. Children will travel to Treasure Island to search for buried treasure and discover how these mighty men were helped by God—building their foundation of faith to know God can do the miraculous through them today too!

Kindergarten through Preteen students will study the same Bible passage each week with breakout applications specific to their age levels.

KINDERGARTEN, BEGINNER, PRIMARY, AND PRETEEN Summer Topic: The Missionary Journeys of the Early Church Summer Décor Theme: All Hands on Deck (Nautical) Summer presents lessons of faith and courage from a variety of Old Testament champions. The nautical theme reinforces the importance of choosing good friends and resisting peer pressure, helping students gain spiritual confidence and grow in their Christian walk.

All-new content—aligned study of weekly topics with age-specific application, fresh posters, and new room design ideas!

TEEN AND YOUTH Summer Unit Topics: The Book of Jonah • The Heartbeat of God (Compassion) • The Journey (Abraham’s Obedience) This quarter dives into the Word of God to study Jonah, Abraham, and Jesus. ADULT Topics of Study: Growing in Grace After receiving salvation, believers are to “grow in grace, and the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ” (II Peter 3:18). Christian disciplines aid believers in growing toward spiritual maturity, and this quarter will study prayer, worship, giving, selflessness, forgiveness, contentment, and more to help believers become effective, fruitful Christians.

Spring 2017

The Benefits of Christian Living Living for Jesus Christ is a blessed life. This study begins with the subject of New Testament salvation and covers major aspects of the Christian life complete with the benefits of love, joy, and peace. After a study of this quarter, believers will be inspired to a new commitment to Christian living!

PENTECOSTAL HISTORY LANDMARKS ON THE ROAD HOME DOCUMENTARY

THE WINDS OF GOD Ethel E. Goss

Robin Johnston

The home church for all Christians is the apostolic church whose story is told in the Book of Acts. For centuries Christianity has strayed far from home. Landmarks on the Road Home tells the story of the journey home by marking key landmarks. It culminates with the recovery of Jesus Name baptism and the birth of the Oneness Pentecostal movement.

Covering the early 20th century Pentecostal movement (1901-1914) in the life of Howard A. Goss, The Winds of God, written by the wife of the first UPCI general superintendent, affords the reader insight into many of the issues and situations that were instrumental in molding the Pentecostal movement. 8020 Paperback $13.99

HIGHLIGHTS IN CHURCH HISTORY

RESTORING THE APOSTOLIC FAITH

PENTECOSTAL HISTORY DIGITAL REFERENCE LIBRARY

J.L. Hall

This CD-ROM contains books on Pentecostal history printed by Word Aflame Press. Some of the books were first printed in 1945 and have been out of print for years. With easy access librarian and powerful search features, you'll find references in seconds, do topical studies, answer questions, and research the most important works on Pentecostal history. If purchased separately the full retail value of these twenty-eight books on CD-ROM would be over $300.00.

The restoration impulse provides the best understanding of the driving force behind the Pentecostal movement. Hall masterfully weaves the story of the early days of the modern Pentecostal movement, constructing a narrative that helps to explain the shape of the movement today. He writes with the intimate knowledge of a historian who is at home with his subject. Of particular importance to Oneness Pentecostals is the retelling of the events that birthed the Oneness movement.

ACTS - THE AMAZING HISTORY OF THE EARLY CHURCH

THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE TRINITY Glen Davidson

The Trinity was a new doctrine that evolved. This book is replete with nearly 300 footnotes, a section on the history of non-biblical words such as 'God the Son', a great summary, and a comprehensive annotated bibliography. The author charts the step by step development of what became the Trinity in three general stages: Father-Son questions, the Holy Spirit added as a person, and three persons in communion. 24488

Have you ever wondered what the Bible would look like if it were written today? It probably wouldn’t have four Gospel accounts. In this volume, Jeffrey Brickle offers the opinion that harmonization of the four Gospel accounts into one volume would do the church a great disservice. The author takes us on a journey of multiple expeditions throughout the ancient Near East and introduces us to a cast of characters who were instrumental in preserving the story of Jesus. Although the tone is conversational, the scholarship underlying the conversation is robust.

In this volume, Jeremy Painter gives a brief overview of the life of Paul and the theological themes found in his writings. As he works through Paul’s epistles in canonical order, his commentary provides clear explanation of complex ideas and brief asides of cultural and historical interest. This book will not only help you better understand the letters of Paul, but it will also deepen your faith.

Chris Paris

In this volume, Jeremy Painter plumbs the depth and traverses the wide range of emotional and theological content of the five poetic books of wisdom literature. The author explores the intricate complexity of questions of suffering in Job, the praises and laments of Psalms, the wisdom of Proverbs, and concludes with clear and purposeful readings of Ecclesiastes and the Song of Solomon. We are not always provided easy answers while reading these books of the Bible, but this handbook serves as a kind of tour guide to lead us along the path.

Chris Paris

In this volume, Chris Paris examines the twelve books we often group together as the Historical Books. He concisely discusses overarching themes in these books, including the conquest of the land, the restoration of the cry in Israel, and the building, destruction, and reconstruction of the Temple. In addition, he uses his expertise in biblical Hebrew to expand our understanding of various Hebrew words. And he provides new ideas for teaching and preaching from selected Scripture passages from these books.

In this volume, Chris Paris surveys the Pentateuch from both literary and theological viewpoints, and introduces us to literary techniques such as type scenes, recurring motifs, and irony. Becoming aware of these techniques produces a reading of the text that deepens our appreciation for the God behind the text. In addition, beyond a perfunctory or ceremonial approach to books such as Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy, the author helps us to see how ethical principles in these writings apply to our lives today.
