WHO GETS DUE PROCESS -- BLAKE OR FRASCATORE?

By Dr. Julianne Malveaux Is Patrick Lynch, President of the New York Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association obliged to defend his members even when they are wrong? The open letter posted on the PBA website and printed in the New York Daily News lacks credibility and contributes to the fractured state of police - communit y relations.

He has cautioned the media, and others, about rushing to judgment of James Frascatore, the walking assault machine that tackled former tennis star James Blake, put his knee to Blake’s back, and then cuffed him. This was captured by a security camera; the footage is ubiquitous online. Lynch says, “no one should ever jump to an uninformed conclusion based on a few seconds of video.�

Lynch makes every excuse that he can for Frascatore, and chides “pundits and editorial writers� because “they have never faced the dangers that police officers routinely do�. Comments about Blake’s false arrest and further cover-up are “irresponsible, unjust, and unAmerican�. Lynch says Frascatore deserves “due process, not summary professional execution called for by editorial writers�.

Due process is defined as the legal requirement that the state must respect all the legal rights due to a person. When did James Blake get due process?

Frascatore tackled Blake with neither provocation nor even conversation. Either Lynch didn’t watch the video or he doesn’t care that there is a pugilistic police officer that has no regard for due process when he interacts with the public.

Frascatore should have been history in the NYPD some time ago. He has only been part of the NYPD for four years, yet five complaints against him have been filed with the Civilian Complaint Review Board (CCRB). All of these complaints involve the excessive use of force.

Frascatore is fast with his fists (he is accused of punching people in the head, the mouth, and in the torso); tragedy would be compounded if he were using a gun. For all of Frascatore’s abuse of power, it took his assault of Blake to get him desk duty. Blake has very reasonably called for Frascatore’s firing. But loudmouth Lynch (consider his comments in the wake of Eric Garner’s murder) has talked himself onto a limb with his passionate, but baseless

defense of a police “officer.�

If there were due process, Frascatore would have been arrested for assaulting Blake. But police officers accused of wrongdoing hide behind their uniforms and never pay for their crimes. If there were due process, a man with five complaints before the CCRB would have been put on desk duty, if not suspended or fired, some time ago.

The New York Daily News reported on a 2013 incident where Frascatore and two others followed bicyclist Warren Diggs home. Once there they demanded identification from him but proceeded to punch in the head and pummel all over his body -- before he could retrieve his ID. Diggs’ significant other saw part of the fracas and began recording it. She asked officers for their names and badge numbers; two complied but Frascatore refused. When Nafeesah Hines went to move Diggs’ bicycle from the sidewalk and into their home, she was told that she was tampering with evidence and was arrested. The Civilian Complaint Review Board found inconsistencies between Frascatore’s statements and the recording Hines made.

They recommended, “retraining� Frascatore. Ms. Hines also sued the city for false arrest and settled out of court.

Warren Diggs still has a federal civil rights lawsuit against the city.

The Diggs case reveals Frascatore as an accomplished liar who doesn’t mind breaking the rules. Just as there was an attempt to cover up the Blake arrest, there was also an attempt to justify the brutal assault of Warren Diggs and the false arrest of Nafeesah Hines. Due process, Patrick Lynch?

As Blake has so gracefully said, all police officers are not like Frascatore. He declined to accuse the NYPD, just the out-of-control officer. He accepted the apologies of the Police Commissioner and the Mayor. But he insists that something must be done about excessive force, and he has indicated that he might pursue a lawsuit otherwise.

The NYPD says they have spent millions on training and retraining. Did Frascatore ever get the training the CCRB recommended? Why not monitor those officers who have been “retrained� to see if they have changed their ways? Why not prioritize investigation of those with repeat complaints so that bad apples like Frascatore are terminated before they do more damage?

Patrick Lynch does his members a disservice when he excuses the behavior of officers like James Frascatore, whose only due process should move him out of the NYPD. Due process means arresting Frascatore for assaulting James Blake.

They have made significant contributions to our national character by improving our business communities, every level of government, our military, our justice system, our universities and colleges, our healthcare system, our entertainment industry, our

religious institutions, our agricultural system, and so much more.

During National Hispanic Heritage Month and throughout the year, I urge each of you to explore the history of your HispanicAmerican neighbors, colleagues, and friends. In doing so, you will better appreciate their courage, sacrifice, and tenacity. Our country is a better place because of their presence, their industriousness, and their ingenuity.

In my life as an elected official, I have worked closely with countless Hispanic-Americans, including Trinidad “Trini�

Garza who worked tirelessly to transform the educational system in Dallas; Francisco “Pancho� Medrano, Sr., was a giant during the 1960’s Civil Rights Movement.

He was a prudent political advisor and supporter when I first won a seat in the Texas Legislature.

At his insistence, I also ran for a senior post in the Texas State Convention shortly after being elected to my seat in the Texas House of Representatives.

During the Convention, I was nominated in English and in Spanish by Mr. Medrano and his allies. I won the seat to the surprise of nearly everyone in the Convention.

We owe a huge debt of gratitude for the sacrifice of these and many others who lived their lives committed to improving our society for all people.

When I proposed legislation in the Texas House to provide free meals to children from low-income families, my principle ally in the effort was Representative Carlos Truan who represented a district in Corpus Christi.

Together, we worked on legislation that resulted in the state providing free breakfast to low-income students in public schools across Texas.

Throughout my tenure in the U.S. House of Representatives, I’ve worked with HispanicAmericans who are dedicated to providing exemplary public service to District 30 constituents. My District Director, Esperanza Worley, has served in my Congressional Office for 23 years and has been a zealous advocate for and provider of constituent services.

As a member of Congress, I have had similar experiences while working with members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus on policies that assist low-income families, working individuals, the elderly and disabled members of our population.

During this month, we should all salute the bountiful contributions that Hispanic-Americans have made and continue to make to our nation.

They are an essential part of what makes our country great, and I am always honored to recognize their impactful legacy.

“Once more and again”, as they used to say in the old black church, I have to tip my hat to Mayor Mike Rawlings. Dallas has at sundry times, been victim of its own “weak mayor system,” but Mayor Rawlings made a real strong move the other day on behalf of Dallas Police Chief David Brown.

After learning of a cowardly and covert coup attempt by a couple of sophomoric council members, Mayor Rawlings shot across the bow to let them know that their efforts would be short-lived. The two conspirators were cut off at the pass.

Now let me say right off that this is nothing new for Dallas, and it’s not just about race as some would conjecture. If you peered at the article across from the Chief’s “Breaking news” in Dallas’ major

daily, you would see that a White woman is being excoriated as well.

There has always been a sinister, sobering, vile and vindictive spirit that hovers over Dallas. We tend to muse if not major in pettiness.

Let me say this parenthetically about District Attorney Susan Hawk. She is being treated unfairly just as Craig Watkins was. I voted for Craig and stand by that, but I believed DA Hawk to have been a good judge when she was on the bench. As a city we miss the point.

She admitted to some personal problems and we treat her as if she has leprosy. But if painkillers or depression make you a leper, we need her recovery in order to inspire the other 600,000 lepers in this city.

Closing parenthesis…Where was I? Oh…Chief David Brown.

David Brown is from the hood; he is Dallas’ Horatio Alger story.

Just in case you don’t know, Horatio Alger is best known for his inspirational juvenile novels about impoverished boys and their rise from humble backgrounds to lives of middle-class security

who have also been successful at the administrative role of City Manager.

Brown did!

When Mayor Rawlings came to his defense, he did so because he realizes how rare and respected Chief David Brown is. It is

What upset many of us is that the surname that surfaced first amidst this foolishness was Medrano.

For African-Americans in Dallas who don’t know the Medrano family, suffice it to say that when we had no other alliances in civil rights, labor or political issues, they were our principal allies.

“Familia Medrano” is to Dallas minorities what Cesar Chavez was to California farm workers.

I am not sure why Councilman Adam Medrano made such a move.

But it was hurtful.

Too many of us picketed and protested to have men like Chief Brown be given a chance for some new age group power seekers to dismantle it. We ain’t having it.

Dallas has a sad history of using institutions and people and discarding them as no longer relevant. We blew up Reunion Arena, we blew up Texas Stadium, but you rest assured that Chief David Brown will not walk out of that office unless he is proven unfit or when he is good and ready.

But he ain’t ready, so we ain’t ready!!!

An Answer for Confederate Apologists TRUTH TO POWER

Someone identifying himself as Jimmy Oliver sent me an email objecting to a column I wrote under the headline, “Confederate Traitors Don’t Deserve to be Honored.” I presume he wrote to get a reply, so here it is, with Oliver’s words in italics.

I do not appreciate you calling my ancestors traitors, Benedict Arnold or traitors.

Well, I do not appreciate your ancestors enslaving my ancestors. I do not appreciate your White ancestors thinking they were superior to my ancestors solely because God created us a different color. I do not appreciate your ancestors forcing my ancestors to work long hours for free. I do not appreciate your ancestors treating mine like property, buying and selling them at will.

I do not appreciate your ancestors breaking up African families whenever they wanted to and I do not appreciate your male ancestors raping my powerless female ancestors.

And, yes, your ancestors were traitors.

In fact, their photographs should be placed next to the word “traitor” in the dictionary.

The definition of traitor is clearly spelled out in Article 3, Section 3 of U.S. Constitution: “Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying war against them, or in adhering to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort. No person shall be convicted of treason unless on the testimony of two witnesses to the same overt act, or on confession in open court.

In case you missed it, the Confederacy leveled war against the United States from 1861-1865.

The Civil War was fought, not because of slavery, but for southern states rights.

Yes, it was fought because southern states wanted “states rights” – the right to maintain slavery.

Slavery was not the most compelling issue of the Civil War. That’s pure nonsense. The states’ orders of secession prove otherwise. For example, “A Declaration of the Immediate Causes which Induce and Justify the Secession of the State of Mississippi from the Federal Union” began: ”In the momentous step which our State has taken of dissolving its connection with the government of which we so long formed a part, it is but just that we should declare the prominent reasons which have

induced our course.

“Our position is thoroughly identified with the institution of slavery – the greatest material interest of the world. Its labor supplies the product which constitutes by far the largest and most important portions of commerce of the earth. These products are peculiar to the climate verging on the tropical regions, and by an imperious law of nature, none but the black race can bear exposure to the tropical sun. These products have become necessities of the world, and a blow at slavery is a blow at commerce and civilization. That blow has been long aimed at the institution, and was at the point of reaching its consummation. There was no choice left us but submission to the mandates of abolition, or a dissolution of the Union, whose principles had been subverted to work out our ruin.”

Virginia cited, “the oppression of the Southern Slaveholding States.” And South Carolina, the first state to leave the Union, asserted, “…The right of property in slaves was recognized by giving to free persons distinct political rights, by giving them the right to represent, and burthening them with direct taxes for three-fifths of their slaves; by authorizing the importation of slaves for twenty years; and by stipulating for the rendition of fugitives from labor.”

The Cornerstone Speech by Alexander Stephens is one man’s opinion.

Stephens was not merely one man – he was vice president of the Confederate States of America. In the speech, he was very clear when he said, “the negro is not equal to the white man; that slavery – subordination to the superior race – is his natural and normal condition.”

Other Confederate leaders expressed similar sentiments. Jefferson Davis, president of the Confederate States, said, “My own convictions as to negro slavery are strong. It has its evils and abuses…

We recognize the negro as God and God’s Book and God’s Laws, in nature, tell us to recognize him – our inferior, fitted expressly for servitude…You cannot transform the negro into anything one-tenth as useful or as good as what slavery enables them to be.”

You say remove the monuments and tributes of the Civil War to whom my ancestors served and I consider to be a part of my Southern Heritage.

Yes, that’s exactly what I am saying.

Alabama Gov. Robert J. Bentley’s decision to remove four Confederate flags from the Capitol grounds in Montgomery and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s recommendation that a statue of Kentuckyborn Jefferson Davis be removed from the state Capitol are steps in the right correction.

I’ll be turning age 62 next month, I was informed by SSA that my SSI would go away because I’ll start drawing a Social Security Retirement check. LIFESTYLE Grambling outduels Prairie View in the State Fair Classic Shootout

By Andrew Whigham, III If you love football, you would have loved the 90th meeting between the Grambling State University Tigers and Prairie View University Panthers. Grambling prevailed 7054 over Prairie View in Dallas at the world famous Cotton Bowl.

The game provided the crowd with every dimension imaginable for a game of this caliber. We witnessed several touchdown passes, kickoff returns, interceptions, fumbles and long runs from both teams. On top of that, half time was no slouch either.

The pageantry of a Black College football game is second to none. The supporters from both institutions and the spectators got there monies worth at this annual event.

The first half started the shootout with Grambling’s Quarterback Johnathan Williams connecting with Chad Williams for an 83 yard Touchdown pass just as the crowd was settling in their seats. Not be outdone, Prairie View’s Quarterback Trey Green threw an 8 yard pass to Nick Pitre to tie the game at 7-7.

Then Grambling scored 21 unanswered points. Starting with Martez Carter returning a kickoff to the house for 88-yards for a touchdown. Followed by two touchdown passes from Johnathan Williams, one to Lovett Gibson for 19

yards and the other to Chester Rogers for 51 yards to make the score 28-7.

Prairie View closed the margin with a scoring drive that ended with DeAuntre Smiley rushing to the house for 4 yards.

The point after was blocked making the score 28-13 Grambling found the house when Johnathan Williams found Chad Williams for 36 yards reception increasing to a 35-13 lead.

The game was going back and forth, up and down and side to side. Both teams were clawing each other like a their lives depended on it.

Prairie View made the most of their opportunity from a turnover when DeAuntre Smiley found the end zone on a 3 yard to close the gap to 35-20.

Grambling returned the favor by scoring on a 29 yard pass from Johnathan Williams to Martez Carter to stretch the their lead to 42-20.

Prairie View closed the half by scoring 14 unanswered points aided by an interception of Grambling.

Both Prairie View’s Quarterbacks, Trey Green and DeAuntre Smiley connected with Demarquo Lastrappe for 52 yards and Tommie Robbins for 2 yards, respectively.

There was a buzz in the air with anticipation for the Halftime performances.

The World Fame Grambling Marching Band took the field. The collective sounds, and precession were displayed to the many spectators watching with the greatest of interest. The crowd was hyped up and the band delivered familiar songs.

Also, grabbing the attention of the crowd was “The Orchesis – The Lady’s Dance Team.

Next was Prairie View’s time to take the field.

The Prairie View A.&M. University Marching Storm’s musicianship, formations, dance routines and sounds were just as impressive. They featured the Drum Line and the Black Foxes several songs that kept the crowd jumping.

The second half began with Grambling’s Johnathan Williams scoring on a 11 yard scamper to the end zone to expand the score to 4934. That was followed by 25 yard TD strike from

Johnathan Williams to Chester Rogers to increase the score to 56-34.

Prairie view gain momentum with two scores from Trey Green connecting with Raymond Jackson for a 4 yard pass and DeAuntre Smiley scampering for 2 yards to close the margin to 56-48.

Then on the following kickoff Martez Carter raced for 100 yards to the house to make the score 63-48. Martez Carter found the end zone again on a 10 yard run to increase the score to 70-48.

Prairie View provided the final score of the contest with a 2 yard pass from Trey Green to Rayshaun Givens to close the margin to 70-54.

The game provided excitement from start to finish. If you like scoring then this was the place to be in Dallas. Both teams displayed competiveness and sportsmanship.

At the conclusion of the night’s contest. Ten people were polled to give their opinion on who won the Halftime show: The sample size was: 2 -Prairie View fans wearing paraphernalia : 2- Grambling fan wearing paraphernalia s and 6-fans with no school paraphernalia With 60% in favor of Grambling.

It’s All About Your Ugly Spiritually Speaking

The subject is not new but the circumstances demand some of us need reassurance. Do you have an addiction, a weakness, something you are aware of but just cannot shake on your own? It may be a secret, your secret, something you dare not reveal for it goes the complete opposite of who you believe yourself to be and counter to the person whom you are truly trying to become.

2 Corinthians 12:7-9 says, “To keep me from becoming conceited, there was given me a thorn in my flesh, a messenger from Satan to torment me. Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me.

But He said to me ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’

Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.” If I’m the only one shouting right now, it’s okay. I know many of you are shouting silently, internally, privately.

You know some things in the bible reverberate over and over again and we still don’t get it. I don’t mean to infer that we don’t understand the words because most of us do. The point is we do not or cannot incorporate what we’re reading into our daily lives.

In this passage Paul lets us know that there is indeed a reason to accept our shortcomings and deal with our flaws and faults with a basic understanding that in doing so, God will invariably show up and then proceed to show out.

It is through our warts that God demonstrates to us and the world that He is Lord. Can you imagine experiencing the “perfect power” of the Lord?

Apparently it’s as easy as looking in the mirror and making an honest assessment of who you really are and who you should be striving to become.

To put it into proper perspective, you are who you are only in relationship to God. And don’t forget to take your imperfections with you. If you know and accept yourself to be a child of God, then you must attempt to be an example of God’s Word and His work.

The only thing standing in your way is admitting to yourself, you can’t go it alone. You and I need help and that help comes only from one source. It’s the perfect source and comes with consequences.

The consequences begin with recognizing that there is divine purpose in your particular set of weaknesses. I know that’s hard to believe, but it is true.

Dare I say most of us would reject the notion that sinful could be anything more than just sinful.

The text however says it is our duty to understand through spiritual recognition that God chooses your problems to show off His righteousness through you by doing miraculous things. When you get a hand from the Lord to overcome your addictions, your passions, your vanity, your shortcomings, you get so much more than you bargained for. According to this part of the bible, you also get Christ’s power to work with. Isn’t that something?

No wonder Paul continues by saying, “That is why, for Christ’s sake I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties.

For when I am weak, then I am strong.”

By itself, you might wonder how Paul comes up with this conclusion. But when taken in the context of the entire passage, isn’t it true that out of many impossible situations and circumstances, God rescued you? How many testimonies do you need to hear before you give God the praise He deserves?

Or is it that you can testify on your own about frailties that have become strengths to be relied upon and give you wisdom to share? All I’m saying is stop fighting yourself. Stop denying your insecurities.

Accept them and give them too, over to the Lord. Then step back and watch God do His thing with your life. He’ll do things you never could.

Then watch Him revel in those who see His divine work through you. It’s that let go and let God thing again. Paul just reminds us that even on your worst day, it’s not about you.

If you just remember it’s all about Him; your good, your bad and your ugly.

May God bless and keep you always.

IN MEMORIAM NABJ mourns loss of former president Estes WASHINGTON - The National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) mourns the passing of former NABJ President Sidmel Estes (199193). Estes was the first woman to be elected president of the association. She also served as an NABJ regional director and president of the Atlanta chapter. Estes, 60, died October 6.

Estes began her career at WAGA-TV/Fox 5 in Atlanta, where she served as the executive producer of numerous programs. She was the co-creator and executive producer of “Good Day Atlanta,” which became the number one show in its market and won seven Emmy Awards under her direction. In 2006, Estes left WAGA-TV to start BreakThrough Inc., a media consulting firm. She was an adjunct professor at Emory University and Clark Atlanta University.

“NABJ grieves for Miss Sidmel. Our hearts are so heavy.

Sidmel’s in-your-face leadership style was my introduction to the best of NABJ as a new student member in 1993,” NABJ President Sarah Glover said. “’Holy smokes! This lady is for real,’ I thought.

She took news organizations to task and members, too. If you were not doing right, she would not hesitate to let you know. I’m so sad she is gone, but her passion and love for NABJ lives on in all of us.”

During Estes’ tenure as president of the association, NABJ increased its membership to more than 2,000 journalists and was included in Ebony magazine’s list of Top 100 Black Organizations.

Estes was born on November 27, 1954 in Marysville, California, to Emellen Estes and Sidney Estes. She attended elementary and high school at public schools in Atlanta. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Journalism in 1976, and her Master of Science in Journalism in 1977, both from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism in Chicago, where she was later inducted as a charter member of the school’s Hall of Achievement.

As a result of her commitment to the community, Estes has received numerous awards from civic, community and church organizations. During her career in television and journalism, she has been recognized numerous times. Atlanta’s Mayor Andrew Young proclaimed “Sidmel Estes-Sumpter Day” on November 18, 1988, after she was named Media Woman of the Year by the Atlanta Chapter of the National Association of Media Women. She was featured in Ebony’s 100 Most Influential Black Americans in 1993, and in More Magazine’s book “50 Over 50.”

ERMA JOHNSON HADLEY

University of Texas at Austin, as well as post-graduate work in higher education administration at the University of North Texas.

She holds an honorary doctorate in education from Paul Quinn College in Dallas.

Hadley was appointed by former Texas Gov. Bill Clements to the Trinity River Authority of Texas and by former Gov. George W. Bush to the Texas Governor’s Committee on Volunteerism.

Her community involvement included service on numerous boards and commissions, including chairing the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport Board, the North Texas Commission and the Tarrant County Hospital District Board.

Hadley is from Leggett, Texas and is the first African-American from that community to graduate from college. She is married to Bill J. Hadley. She has one daughter, Ardenia Johnson Gould.

She died Thursday after a lengthy battle with pancreatic cancer. She was 73. A wake is scheduled for Oct. 9 at 5 p.m. at Mount Rose Baptist Church in Fort Worth. In lieu of flowers, the family asked for donations to the Erma Johnson Hadley Scholarship Fun, and can be made at any Chase Bank.

SYBIL C. MOBLEY Dr. Sybil C. Mobley, 89, the founding Dean of the Florida A&M University School of Business and Industry (SBI) died Tuesday, September 29, 2015.

The Celebration of her life service will be 12:00 (Noon) Friday, October 9, 2015 at Bethel M.B. Church, 224 N. Martin Luther King Blvd with burial at Tallahassee Memory Gardens. The AKA’s Ivy Beyond the Wall service will be 6:00 P.M. Wednesday, Oct. 7, at Strong & Jones Chapel. There will be a memorial celebration from 4 to 6:00 P.M. Thursday, Oct. 8 at Lee Hall Auditorium at Florida A&M University. She is survived by three sons, James O. Mobley, Jr., Rev. Melvin E. Mobley (Lois) and Stacy Mobley (Joan); one daughter, Janet M. Sermon (Richard); one sister, Malissa C. Waters; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and a host of loving nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Dr. Sybil Mobley was born in Shreveport, Louisiana.

She earned a master’s in business administration from the prestigious Wharton School of Business in Philadelphia in 1961 and a Ph.D. from the University of Illinois in 1963. She began her career with FAMU that year, developing a Leadership Program with students who rank in the top five percent nationally. She also served on the boards of such prominent businesses as Hershey Foods, Anheuser-Busch and Sears.

The Sybil C. Mobley School of Business and Industry was created in 1974 by founding Dean Mobley. She started her career at FAMU in 1963 when there was no business school, established an accredited program, gathered educated and experienced staff and faculty and shaped a business school that occupies more than 130,000 square feet. Her dedicated service spanned 40 years.

EDGAR JOE DeBOISE Edgar Joe DeBoise was born on August 7, 1962 in Dallas, Texas to Edward and Majarie DeBoise.

EJ received his formal education from Dallas Independent School District graduating from South Oak Cliff High School He attended Rehoboth Tabernacle of God, Cherry Valley Church of Christ and Dixon Circle Baptist Church.

On Sept. 11, 1988, EJ married the love of his life, Sidney Ann DeBoise.

EJ was employed by the DISD for 11 years. He also worked for A&B Ranch House Barbeque for six years. EJ also worked in the medical industry as an Orderly and in Patient Transport for 10 years. EJ was always willing to help and encourage children and young adults to reach their fullest potential on the field and court as well as in life. He liked playing Rummy 500, Trouble, Dominoes and shooting pool. EJ was a master on the grill, he loved to barbeque. He loved to coach. He coached basketball and football for the Pleasant GroveLions, Pleasant Grove Panthers and Elijah M. Pease Elementary.

On September 11, 2015, EJ succumbed to cancer.

EJ leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Sidney Ann DeBoise; five children, Angela Mosley of Houston , TX; Andriette Mosley, Sharon Mosley, Edwin DeBoise (Jessica) and Emmanuel DeBoise, all of Dallas; three grandchildren, Jamaiah Mosley, Elijah DeBoise and E’Nette DeBoise; three siblings, Loletha Jones, David Lewis DeBoise , all of Dallas, TX and Cindy Lee (Robert) of Tucson, Arizona; eight brother and sister-in-laws, Tommy Mosley, Elmarline Page, Timothy Mosley (jan), Almarline Mosley, Ray Mosley, Carolana Williams (Andrew), Caroline Mosley and Jeffery Mosley; and host of relatives and friends.

EVELYN MAE DAVIS Evelyn Mae Davis was born on July 30, 1940 in Porter, OK to Curtis and Ora Bailey. She attended Booker T. Washington High School. She joined in holy matrimony to Melvin L. Davis and to this union four children were born.

Evelyn was a homemaker with a love for for cooking and baking. She loved listening to music with James Brown being her favorite.

She lived an quiet and peaceful life and encouraged the same. She attended Victory Temple COGIC and Deliverance Tabernacle in Dallas.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Phyllis Ann Davis-Anthony; two brothers, Mitchell Bailey and Curtis Bailey; Sister, Laverne Musgrove; mother Ora Bailey; and father, Curtis Bailey.

She leaves behind to cherish her loving memories: daughter, Evelyn Marie Sanders; two sons, Melvin (Beverly) Davis and Harvey (Lisa) Davis; two sisters, Bobbie Madlock (Annie) Bailey; brother, James Bailey; three granddaughters, Tiffany N. In March 2010, the Tarrant County College Board of Trustees named Erma Johnson Hadley chancellor of the Tarrant County College District. She is the first woman and first African-American chancellor of the district which has an enrollment of more than 45,000 students.

Hadley has been with TCC for over four decades as a faculty member and administrator. She joined the college as a charter member of its Northeast Campus faculty and has held a variety of administrative positions, including director of personnel, vice chancellor for human resources and vice chancellor for administration.

During her tenure on the TCC faculty she was voted “Outstanding Teacher” for the Northeast Campus’ Business Division, where she led the development of several course syllabi in the Occupations Department. Hadley also created the TCC Employee Scholarship Program, which provides stipends to TCC support staff who wish to take TCC courses.

Hadley earned her Bachelor of Science in Business Education from Prairie View A&M University and her Master’s of Education in Business Education from Bowling Green State University.

She has taken graduate courses in business education at the
