My Aunt Speaks Truth To Power! Quit Playin’ By Vincent L. Hall

We need bullies. That’s how Trump became president. That’s exactly what happened. We got rid of bullies. A real bully showed up, and nobody knew how to handle him. – Chris Rock’s latest Netflix Stand-Up; “Tambourine,â€?

Dr. Frederick Douglass Haynes has a planned summer event that has the national Social Justice Community buzzing. “Speaking Truth to Power‌ Equipping Church Leaders and Community Activists for Social Justiceâ€? is a two-day convocation of consciousness that will revive some and revolutionize others. Oh and by the way‌Aunt Maxine is coming here!!! You can see her for the low, low price of $Free.99! FREE! Go to www.fdhministries.org to register for the conference. First though, let me tell you why I think that the

manner in which U.S. Rep Maxine Waters fights Trumpism is so effective. Aunt Maxine has maintained without wavering, that Donald Trump is a classless bully; an uncircumcised Philistine, who must be felled by the weapons of truth. There were good reasons why “Little Davidâ€? took his fully loaded slingshot to fight Goliath and left his harp at the house. Aunt Maxine understands that. According to hellogiggles.com; “Waters responded to Trump’s bullying in an interview with MSNBC’s Chris Hayes saying, ‘Everybody knows who this bully is. This is a dishonorable human. He is a con man. He came to this job as a con man. I call him Don the Con Man.’â€? Note: Waters uses Trump’s own branding scheme against him. She added, “All I know is this: If he thinks he can stop me from talking about ‘Impeach 45,’ he’s got another thought coming. I am not intimidated

by him. I’m going to keep saying that we need to impeach him.â€? In this way, calling him a name back is a way to show him that she’s not scared of him and is paying attention to what he’s doing. Waters isn’t the only woman in Congress to have a nickname for the president either. Illinois Sen. Tammy Duckworth calls him “Cadet Bone Spurs,â€? in reference to the fact that he claimed he couldn’t serve in the military because he had bone spurs in his feet. Maxine Waters is no novice to exposing social and political indignations. Here she is in 1989: “I have a right to my anger, and I don’t want anybody telling me I shouldn’t be, that it’s not nice to be, and that something’s wrong with me because I get angry.â€? Aunt Maxine was no less incensed when she voiced sentiments, published by the L.A. Times in 1993: “Policy, for the most part, has been made by white

people in America, not by people of color.  And they have tended to take care of those things that they think are important.  Whether it’s their agricultural subsidies, or other kinds of expenditures that are certainly not expenditures for poor people or for people of color.  And so we have to band together and keep fighting back.â€? This conference is much-needed and well-timed. Trumpism is dismantling rational norms, sound traditions and common decency. Whether it’s Trump or blasphemists like Robert Jeffress of Dallas’s First Baptist Church; bullying must be directly confronted and social justice warriors need a diagram. Chris Rock ended his “bully barrageâ€? in a way that segues to this upcoming conference. “George Bush is a black revolutionary. Malcolm X, Rosa Parks, George Bush. They need to honor him at the Essence Festival. It might work out, man. Think about it. Bush was so bad he gave us Obama. Trump’s so bad‌ he gonna give us Jesus. “Jesus, what you doing here?â€? “You seen Trump?â€? This sh!t is serious.â€? Speaking Truth to Power aims principally to move us toward Justice, which is what Jesus’ ministry modeled. Aunt Maxine and Chris Rock agree; bullies must be dealt with. Be there June 28th and 29th. It’s goin’ down like fo’ flat tires on a Cadillac Sedan de Ville Fleetwood Brougham! Vincent L. Hall is an author, activist and award-winning journalist.

2018 Commencement message: “All of us have a responsibility to be greater than the people who came before us. We have a respon-

sibility to be not as We have to overgood as them or live come that fear and up to their exam- be greater than our ple, but to actually role models. Chance the Rapper surpass them, even Dillard University when it seems scary.
