FLEET COMMITTEE NEWS
BY: PAMELA BLACK - REAR COMMODORE
It’s February already? It’ll be Spring and 2023 Boating Season before we know it! Your Fleet Committee is busy partnering with SHPYC on many wonderful upcoming events. Make sure to add these events to your calendar – your member experience and enjoyment of our club is based on your participation so let’s start off 2023 with a bang.
Commodore’s Ball – Saturday, 2/4. Join us for this annual event which honors our outgoing Commodore (Gary Treen) and introduces our incoming Commodore (Steve Hosler), as well as our 2023 Fleet Committee members. There’s a cocktail hour, ceremony, a wonderful dinner and music/dancing. It’s also a great excuse to get all dressed up! You can register at https://www.peninsulayacht.com/ default.aspx?p=v35EvtView&type=0&ID=3869829. This year’s theme is “The Best Ships are Friendships”.
Galentine’s Ladies Night Out Event – Thursday, 2/9. Join us for our Social Scene meeting at 6pm to learn more about SHPYC events and then at 7pm for the Galentine’s Ladies Event where Keli Marks will assist us with professional cupcake decorating – you will get to take cupcakes home for Valentine’s and it’s discounted wine night!
Polar Plunge – Saturday, 2/11. Come out to the SHPYC marina and “plunge” to support the Special Olympics or support one of your fellow members (and staff!!). For 2023, we have a $10,000 goal for our donation to

Tim Harbick, Sail Fleet Captain
The 2023 Safe Harbor Peninsula Yacht Club sailing season is underway!
As the new Sail Fleet Captain for 2023, I want to thank the Fleet Committee for the opportunity to support SHPYC sailing for another year! I would also like to thank Wes Bray, the 2022 Sail Fleet Captain, for his leadership and Dave Krippene for keeping the races going! Joining Dave and I this year is Charlie Hahl - welcome Charlie!

As a lifelong sailor, with many thousands of miles under the keel, I believe that sailing, both racing and cruising, is a passion and way of life. My goal is to continue to enrich the sail program with the assistance of the many sailors and volunteers of like mind at the SHPYC.
“The days pass happily with me wherever my ship sails.” – Joshua Slocum

Pamela Black, Rear Commodore

with many days of tremendous lake cruising already under our keels.
For 2023, our focus will continue to be on strengthening our existing core programs while introducing new activities for our members as a means to get more boats off the dock and sailors on the water. In addition, we are strengthening our safety programs and partnering with the Love Where You Lake safety awareness initiative aimed at both our youth and adults.

Call For Volunteers - In order to support our events, volunteers are a key to their success. Throughout the year, we have opportunities to assist with the many Fleet sponsored events – we invite you to join us whether power boater, sailor or non-boater.
We have a busy and fun year ahead of us and I encourage everyone to join in and participate. If you would like to be a part of our events or have questions, please reach out to me at tdharbick@gmail.com.
We look forward to seeing you on the water. Fair winds.
