one typically give the celebrities a bit of an easier time than normal — these aren’t professional cooks, after all, and they’re playing for charity, not their own pockets. The appetizer round’s basket will include sparkling cider (yum!) and doughnuts, while the entree round will hand the celebrities one of the tastiest ingredients around: decadent wagyu steaks. Food goes so well with the holidays, and few shows understand this better than “Chopped.” Dec. 3 will also see a few holiday favorites from seasons past making a return, with non-traditional holiday dishes like gingerbread oysters being presented to the hopeful judges while the chefs sweat it out. With a new celebrity episode and some ghostly episodes from Christmas past returning, the Food Network’s December lineup is off to one heck of a festive start with “Chopped.”

December’s finally here (only a few short weeks until Christmas!) and that means the holiday TV specials are coming fast and furious, and the Food Network is no exception. Virtually all of the network’s shows are lining up Christmas-themed episodes in the lead-up to the big day, a programming event that sprinkles a little extra holiday cheer into people’s homes every December. “Chopped” is one of the first shows out of the gate this year, with a new episode titled “Celebrity Holiday Bash,” airing the evening of Tuesday, Dec. 3, alongside a few returning holiday episodes from years past. Host Ted Allen will have some diabolical baskets of ingredients to challenge the kitchen knowhow of four celebrities playing

for charity. Fortunately, these famous folks are reportedly at home in their kitchens — but the “Chopped” kitchen is a much less-forgiving beast. Anthony Anderson (“Guys With Kids”), Dawn Wells (“Gilligan’s Island”), Antonio Sabato Jr. (“The Bold and the Beautiful”) and Teri Hatcher (“Desperate Housewives”) will be entering the “Chopped” kitchen in the hopes of bringing a bit of extra holiday cheer to their chosen charities. “Chopped” challenges the contestants (who are, typically, professional chefs) to prepare sumptuous dishes in a limited time for a panel of judges who eliminate them one by one until a winner is declared. The twist? Each round begins with the contestants opening a basket filled with four mystery (and often rather bizarre) ingredients, all of which must be featured in the dish.
