NEAH BAY — The Clallam County Public Utility District has planned an electrical power outage early Saturday. All customers in the Neah Bay area will experience an interruption of service from 12:01 a.m. to 6 a.m., the PUD said. During the outage, crews will replace a transmission power pole to accommodate the installation of a fiber communications network. For more information, phone the Forks office at 360-374-6201.
PORT TOWNSEND — Olympic Mountain Pet Pals has an opportunity for year-end donations to go twice as far toward the group’s goal of providing every dog and cat in Jefferson County the opportunity for a safe environment and a loving home. Donations received by Dec. 31 will be matched thanks to a $5,000 challenge grant from animallovers Robin Hake, Pam Kolacy, Ken and Cindy McBride, Ginny Messina, Rhonda Scharf, Berry Shoen, Marsha Wiener and Randi Winter. Pet Pals works with local veterinarians to spay and neuter dogs and cats living in low-income homes, as well as unadoptable community cats. The all-volunteer nonprofit group has paid for the spay/neuter of more than 3,500 animals in Jefferson County since 2001. In addition to the spay/ neuter program, Pet Pals provides funds to defray the cost of emergency medical care for pets when their families can’t afford it and offers two pet outreach programs to seniors and children. The memorial, which lasts 15 to 20 minutes, is held the last Friday of every month. The names of the deceased are read, their military background is noted, and a replica of the Liberty Bell in the park is rung after each name. This is followed by the playing of “Amazing Grace� by McCurdy and a formal presentation of the flag, a 21-gun salute and taps. “All are encouraged and invited to pay tribute as this may be the last time these veterans’ names are spoken,� said Tammy Sullenger, county veterans coordinator.
