D e a r R e a d e r, Well after all the rain and the snow it is time once again to look forward to Spring/Summer season and hope that it is going to be a lovely one! Certainly with the stock that is arriving it will be a colourful one come rain or shine that is for sure.

The colours this season are vibrant greens, pinks and blues, lots of prints and pastel ‘plains’. Already in the shop are the first of the linens by Flax, Zele with easy combinations of jackets, trousers and tops making a smart but at the same time comfortable look. The first intake of Sahara has arrived with Bamboo cotton weave jackets, trousers and dresses in navy and black, very chic.
We have been asked by the MS association to put on a charity Fashion Show which will be in April and also one for the Stroke Association later in the year.
The wedding season will soon be upon us with Easter being early and we have a super range of fascinators in lots of lovely colours to match any outfit. Dresses, this season, are definitely the hot fashion item and so very flattering! Alongside dresses are blouses/shirts which are proving very popular this time around. As always the stock of costume jewellery is vast and I am forever trying to source new styles. Lots of beautiful jewellery pieces along with an array of

G re e n Eco - Opti o ns Ltd Have you spotted the increase in panels on neighbouring houses? The reason, of course, is that having solar panels saves you money whilst also helping to protect the environment. Some think the payback scheme, known as the Feed in Tariff, has diminished and is no longer worthwhile. This is far from the truth. Compared to people who are having panels fitted this year those who installed last year may have earned more through the Feed in Tariff but would have paid significantly more for their panels. When this scheme was launched it could have cost about £11,000 £18,000 to buy and install panels. Now, because the market has taken off, volume production and competitive forces have caused prices to drop. Therefore it could now cost £5,500 - £9,000 depending on the size of the house and system you install. Every house is different. For example, some homes may have two residents, both of whom are out at work all day while their neighbours, in a similar house, may have a large family and may run the washing machine, dishwasher, tumble dryer, shower, computer consoles and lights throughout the day. Some homes may be occupied by the elderly so the heating may need to be on for more hours every day. As part of our free home visit we would discuss your particular usage and requirements with you to ensure that you benefit fully from your new Solar Energy system.
Insulation
Guidelines have been put in place by the Government and energy suppliers stating they will only pay the generation tariff and export tariff as long as your home is well insulated. We will survey your home to identify any energy wastage by
checking levels of double glazing, boiler efficiency, cavity wall insulation and correct thickness of loft insulation (even doubling the depth of your loft insulation can make a significant difference to heat retention which can lower your energy bills).
Certification
We fully comply with the requirements of the Micro-Generation Certification Scheme, NICEIC and the REAL consumer code. This provides you with the confidence and peace of mind that your panels will be fitted correctly and the electricity generated by you will be fed back into the National Grid.
Tariff
The Government’s Feed-in Tariff scheme was introduced to encourage early take up of PV solar technology. Based on a similar, highly successful scheme in Europe the current scheme is only open to new entrants at the current generation tariff of 15.4p until April 2013. Also the government recently increased the export tariff from 3.2p to 4.5p. It is expected that the government will reduce the generation tariff in May 2013 and further reduce it every 3 months as take up increases,
potentially even stopping altogether at some point in the future. This will not affect those with a system already installed and commissioned or any installations registered before the end of April 2013. They will continue to be paid the rate at which their first payment was made for the length of their FIT term (20 years). It is therefore advisable to invest in photovoltaic roof panels as soon as possible; demand is set to soar as we approach the April 2013 tariff reduction deadline. In addition this is a good time of year to have panels installed so as not to miss out on the high-yield period of the summer months.

Work Life is a Beach by Tanya Brooks-D owsett Local Penar th resident and T V camerman Dave James squeezes in a quick inter view to tell me why he loves his diverse life by the coast and a sneak peak into his ‘jet set ’ working lifestyle. What inspired you to become a cameraman....? Natural history programming inspired me to enter this line of work, I loved the idea that you could earn a living from having an adventure, that it wasn’t always about sitting in an office and that it could open doors to seeing more of the world. Photography in school was a big part of it was as well, we had access to a dark room and the idea that I could spend lesson time printing in the dark room was very appealing. Why are you attracted to living/working by the coast? I’ve pretty much grown up on the coast here in South Wales, not that that I visit the beach everyday, but the coastal air and its proximity are very appealing. As a child growing up my parents would look for activities that would burn the abundance of energy I had, sailing was one of those and looking back on it, it really has shaped my life/work relationship. How do balance your time between working in the UK and travelling the world? Hahaha, what a question! In truth I guess I don’t. It kind of evolves and controls itself. summer months are extremely busy, during this time I’ve got to work when I can to ensure there is enough left in the pot for the quieter winter months. That means I spend more time at home during the winter, maybe giving me a bit of balance in the work/life cycle.

What do you love most about what you do? I love that I get to travel, I get to see parts of the world that maybe I wouldn’t chose to go to. That is the real plus, seeing places that aren’t on your radar and having your eyes opened. That’s what I love. What are the highs & lows of running your own business? First and foremost I love being my own boss, it means I can pick and choose what I do to earn a living, the flip side of that is exactly that! You have to motivate yourself to do projects to pay the bills, and give your all to something that doesn’t always inspire yourself. Other lows could include missing important dates, friends weddings, birthdays and good byes for example. Its hard to justify taking off a week or more work for one day. The highs though far out weigh the lows, I choose my own hours, my own days and the projects I work on.
America’s Cup
Describe a typical ‘day in the life ‘ behind the lense? I’ll describe the last job for the Volvo Ocean Race as a day wouldn’t do it justice. I caught an 8am flight from Gatwick to Alicante, that meant catching a bus from Cardiff to Gatwick at 1.20am. I spent the day in Alicante going through the kit for the job. I did find time for a coffee in the old town,
On Location that was lovely. Then I cought a 19.30ish flight from Alicante to Bergamo, Italy. Landed at 21.00 headed to the hotel dropped off bags and kit, headed to a restaurant from the advice of concierge. I finally got to bed at midnight. That was a long day however I hadn’t shot a bean. The next day I was on site at 8.00 to shoot the construction of the first hull destined for the Volvo Ocean race 201415. Next was a 19.00 flight to BeauvaisTillé Airport, this got us in at 20.55! Car rental sorted we were on the road to Vannes, Brittney. This was a 6.30hrs trip, I took up the 2.00 - 4.30 stint . We had a lay in till 10.00 the next day, then headed to the boat builders where we shot the construction of the decks. That eve we head to Saint Malo, to catch the 20.30 to Portsmouth. A cramped cabin and 11hrs later we arrived, a short drive to Southampton took us to the yard where they are going to fit out the Volvo Ocean 65’s, we did our work there and I was on the 16.10 from Southampton to Cardiff getting me in at 19.15. Its not all glamour! What and where has been your most exciting film shoot near the coast? There have been a few that come to mind, being part of the 33rd Americas cup in Valencia was pretty exciting, I was working directly for Oracle at the time and being part of there organisation and getting so close to their Americas Cup entry was pretty exciting. Being part of last years Olympics was cool, there was a great atmosphere in Weymouth, being
part of that was exciting. There have also been times on the Isle of Tiree, where conditions have kicked off and we’ve seen some impressive stuff from the Windsurfers up there. Which one piece of advice would you give to someone wishing to work as a camerman? There isn’t a one job fits all solution for a cameraperson, so work out what you enjoy and peruse that. I had work experience on Hollyoaks and quickly worked out that I didn’t want to spend my time shooing in a studio. So work out want you want to do, dig around and ask as many people as you can how to get there. There is no one route. What are your brief plans for the future? I’m involved with a company called Equine Productions, we are trying to bring a bit more of a creative spark to filming the horse industry, its going well and we aim to kick on. What was a highlight of your year? Filming the Tiree Wave Classic for SKY Sports TV hosted by local Penarth business Puravida Boardriders. The Isle of Tiree is pretty spectacular, one of the sunniest and windiest places in the country. It is an epic windsurfing competition attended by professional wave riders from across the globe. It is run in 4 region across the UK held in Rosneigar in North Wales, Brandon Bay in Ireland, Tiree in Scotland and Gwithian in Cornwall.
Some down time! Where is your favourite... Beach: Barafundle Bay, although I wouldn’t advise you to go, you wont like it honestly! Place to visit near the coast: Cape Town, it has everything! What is your most cherrished beach essential? Board shorts, although I’ve been known to swim without them.

Can acupuncture help you? More and more people all over the world are turning to traditional acupuncture as an alternative or complementary way of caring for their health, and there is increasing evidence of its efficacy in a number of painful and debilitating chronic conditions. In a recently published review by Arthritis Research UK, for example, acupuncture was shown to be the most effective of 14 different complementary therapies for relief of pain from osteoarthritis in 53 separate clinical trials (scoring a maximum five points from the patients surveyed).
