PEMA Robotic welding station is designed for efficient one-off production.

Robotic solutions for Finnish customers

Pemamek has received several robotic station orders from Finnish manufacturers. Among the customers are companies, such as Promeco, JetSteel, and Junkkari, among others.

“In addition to the production benefits, this is also a strategic investment. In the future, customers will focus on better quality and availability and automation can respond to this,” says Ville Ritakorpi, Promeco’s Sales and

Marketing Director.

In the current market situation, where the availability of new employees is challenging and order books are full, starting with automated welding is a natural step for any workshop. Even smaller workshops, that have small batches and one-off production, can enjoy the full advantages of welding automation thanks to intelligent programming tools that allow remote programming.

Industry 4.0 welding positioners: PEMA Skyhook PRO

Pemamek has launched a new solution for the product family of intelligent welding positioners, the PEMA Skyhook PRO. Whether the task is welding, assembly, or surface treatment, this positioner is designed to make it easy. The PEMA Skyhook PRO series expands the handling capabilities of previous Skyhook positioners with new intelligent software that enables pre-programming of work cycles and handling positions.

The Skyhook positioners are built to handle heavy workpieces with even the most complex product geometries. Real-time information and digital connectivity make the welding positioner a perfect fit for any workshop and the next generation of welders.

Using the programming tool is easy: it is like using a mobile phone. With the positioner, welders can weld in an ergonomically optimal position where they can move smoothly from one job to the next. Additionally, the intelligent welding positioner helps less experienced welders to have an efficient start and to find the right welding positions easily.

Pemamek invests 15 Meur in factory expansion and R&D

Pemamek has announced a total of 15 Meur investments in factory expansion and product development. The investment decision has been further supported by the received orders from the wind energy industry during spring 2022, but also the growing demand for heavy industry robot solutions. Also, the company has several ongoing negotiations for new deliveries.

The new factory expansion increases Pemamek’s production capacity and abilities to meet the rising demand from the wind power industry. Alongside shipbuilding, wind energy is becoming another major customer sector for the company. Furthermore, the demand for heavy industry robot solutions has been increasing. Pemamek’s latest factory expansion was finished in 2017. Now, the factory totals 20,000 square meters. The upcoming expansion will bring 7,000 square meters more of manufacturing, assembly, and office space. The new premises are ready for production use during the last quarter of 2022. Once ready, the entire factory area will total 27,000 square meters.

Book of Pemamek’s journey published in Finnish

To capture the family company’s fascinating story and celebrate half a century in business, Pemamek has published a hardcover book “Yhteen hitsattu”. The book has been published in Finnish, followed by an English-translated version scheduled for late 2022.

While Pemamek is internationally recognized for its hi-tech welding automation, many times people behind the solutions are not familiar to the wider crowd. The multi-voiced publication introduces the company’s long-time owners, the Heikonen family, and is a tribute to former and current employees, but also the Finnish world-class engineering.

The vivid book sheds light on what PEMA culture is about and how Pemamek has become the global key player that it is today.

Shipyard 4.0 environment together with Navantia

At the end of last year the Spanish high technology vessel manufacturer Navantia placed an order for a highly automated PEMA Panel Lines, Profile Processing Lines, and Sub-Block Production Lines as part of their shipyard 4.0 project. Navantia will have the latest PEMA laser-hybridbased welding technology and unparalleled robotic technology fully integrated to create the Shipyard 4.0 working environment. The overall solution for Navantia’s Shipyards in Ferrol and San Fernando will be one of the most modern and technologically advanced solutions in the worldwide shipbuilding business equipped with the PEMA technology. With the investments, Navantia is aiming to ensure the Shipyard 4.0 working environment, be at forefront of the shipbuilding, and strengthen its position in global naval markets.

Digitalization globally is present in all industries where Pemamek is active, also in shipbuilding where a shipyard 4.0 environment is coming already as a standard. Pemamek has been prepared for this for several years by having most of its solutions aligned with a 4.0 environment. In practice, it means that digital inputs and outputs to and from PEMA applications are everyday traffic. User-friendly interfaces, remote connections and diagnostics, and adaptability to different MES and PDM systems are a standard in PEMA solutions.

The partnership between Pemamek and Navantia has lasted for several years, and it is built on mutual trust and deep cooperation. While the shipyard project is highly advanced in technology, its success is based on a shared future vision and deep technological cooperation. As a partner for Pemamek, Navantia is one of the most advanced companies in the shipbuilding industry striving for constant learning and development.
