INTRODUCT ION
Foreword 4 5
For me, design is about gathering a great deal of information and presenting it visually. Graphic design is about solving communication problems visually. In order to solve the problems, it is vital to understand relevant information. Just like an encyclopedia, graphic design is not self-expression but gathering information and making ideas come alive.

Redesigning HOW Design Live Conference
01/08
Design·a·pedia Objective Design the conference materials for a design conference. The required components are: promotion poster, promotion direct mail piece, website look and feel, program including schedule and speakers, conference zoom background, and mobile website or app look and feel.
Approach I designed this conference based on a design concept—power—because I think design has the power to change the world. This concept led me to my choices in color and layout, which were more vibrant and dynamic to show the strong energy of creativity and inspiration.

Amplifying Sustainable School Architecture
02/08
Sustain·a·pedia Objective Design an online design journal/gallery by, for, and about designers. This design will feature the work of either: marginalized or under-represented practitioners, or practitioners whose work advances one or more of the UN Global Goals.
Approach I chose to amplify designers and architects whoes work advances sustainable school architecture from pre-k to sixth grade because education in a sustainable learning environment is an essential way to raise awareness of sustainable development. I came up with a metaphor: hopscotch for my design because this activity matches my target audience and creates a lively feeling.

Redesigning a Book About Mushrooms
03/08
Fung·i·pedia Objective For a book of your choosing, include all the necessary components of a book, such as images, text, title, subtitles, captions, and etc., and then redesign it. Only do sample spreads for the redesign, not the entire book.
Approach I focused on typography when I started to redesign this book. There were too many rivers in its justified type, so I made the column width wider and adjusted the tracking to make the typographic color look more consistent. In order to reach younger readers to recognize the mushrooms, I used bright color to make this book look more vivid and colorful.

Creating a Brand for Families of Children with ADHD
04/08
Support·a·pedia Objective Find a fact that might be a problem in the world, one that you would like to see changed. Make a brand that can support or solve the problem. Select three deliverables (product, service, narrative, environment, event, media channel, or digital media) that will best represent your brand.
Approach The families which raise children with ADHD sometimes face frustrating situations. Without proper education and support, it is very harmful to both parents and children. Therefore, I made this brand to provide the service, that can help families, especially parents, to overcome these difficulties.

Developing Mrs & Mr Eaves Type Specimen
05/08
Type·a·pedia Objective Type foundries deliver promotional materials when they release new typefaces. This project is to develop a type promotion, promoting a typeface about its appearance, style, usage, and etc. The target audience will be graphic designers and a type-savvy audience.
Approach I started this project by creating three different moodboards and typefaces, and the one that looked delicate and elegant with Mrs Eaves worked the best. Therefore, I played with Mrs Eaves and its companion, Mr Eaves, to make them look elegant and appealing for this project.

Redesigning a Music Rehearsal Invitation
06/08
Rehears·a·pedia Objective Take one of the sign you saw on the street to redesign. The project focuses on identifying communication goals and strategies, identifying audiences, and developing visual systems. The end deliverable is a group of three components that function as a system, which are narrative component, series component, and digital component.
Approach This sign was for the Disoriental music group’s open rehearsal invitation at the Center for Middle Eastern Studies at UC Berkeley. The Middle East and North Africa have many iconic instruments and cultural symbols. By using these elements and vivid colors, I created a system for this project to be more visually attractive and changed it from ordinary to extraordinary.

Redesigning Citizen’s Annual Report
07/08
Time·a·pedia Objective Choose a company in a field you are interested in, and select an annual report or a CSR report online that you can harvest text from to redesign. Charts, graphs, and tables of information are required to practice information design skills.
Approach Citizen's watches are known for their quality and design. However, it didn't have good brand recognition, and the reports lacked consistency. I started with developing its visual language and aimed to make it look more high end, delicate, and approachable.

Exploring Typographic Form in a Dream State
08/08
Dream·a·pedia Objective Choose either Akzidenz Grotesk or Century Schoolbook and explore typographic form in a new way—the dream state, which generates unexpected results within a system. The final deliverable will deliver as three movie posters and a title sequence.
Approach I used many kinds of techniques like water, soda, glass, bottle, light, and etc. for my type experiments. During the experiment, the rainbow window film attracted me the most, so I played with that for several weeks and found that created an atmosphere that looked close to Pixar’s animated film Soul. The rainbow window film became the posters and the title sequence for Soul.
