The Match That Lit a Fire By Julie Lundgren, Alumnae Director
Last year, 2004 Distinguished Alumna, Peggy Taylor ’69, agreed to match, dollar-for-dollar, alumnae gifts up to $50,000*. She believed Forest Ridge made a difference in her life and wanted to encourage like-minded alumnae to follow her lead. It was the perfect kindling to get the fire going. It worked. In two short months, alumnae giving reached the $50,000 match. Participation over the previous year increased by 30% more donors. The message was clear: alumnae giving was ignited by this match and a shared pride in the accomplishment and consequences of a Forest Ridge education. Peggy expressed her rationale and generosity this way: “I have been extremely blessed with financial success and I think it’s important to recognize Forest Ridge for, what I believe, is a significant contributing factor to that success. At Forest Ridge, I was taught to think, interpret, analyze and challenge, she added enthusiastically. The critical thinking and decision making skills I acquired at Forest Ridge, and the confidence I gained through my education have proven invaluable.” As for the power of an all-girls education, Peggy had this to say: “The absence of boys helped us focus more directly on our education, it was cool to be smart, athletic and a good leader. And I think the relationships we developed with our classmates were closer, stronger and deeper. I am still connected with several of my high school friends.” Peggy’s leadership for encouraging others to do what they can in support of Forest Ridge, indeed lit a flame. *Any gift made to the Annual Fund, a named scholarship, Financial Aid or the Fund-ANeed Media Design Lab, will be matched dollar-for-dollar until $50,000 has been reached.
