Founded in 1995, CMK Companies is a leading Chicago real estate company that has helped redefine the concept of urban living with its award-winning contemporary buildings. The firm is currently responsible for over $2.5 billion in real estate development. While small enough to be flexible and able to act quickly, CMK Companies offers an unusual breadth of experience and expertise in its field. In its early days, the firm performed all aspects of the development process, including contracting. Today, CMK Companies focuses solely on what it does best— real estate development and sales—and works with outside contractors, as needed, with maximum efficiency. Hailed by Chicago magazine as "a company that has made a habit of developing forward-looking, contemporary-styled condominium buildings," CMK Companies has won awards from the American Institute of Architects and others. The New York Times noted that the firm’s showcase project, the Contemporaine, a distinctive 15-story high rise in Chicago, "looks like no other residential building in the city." Most recently, CMK Companies has expanded its operations into new markets in the coastal areas of Florida and elsewhere. CMK Companies consists of two divisions: CMK Development Corporation handles residential and commercial development, while CMK Realty Corporation provides exclusive sales brokerage and marketing services. Other affiliates of CMK Companies are guiding the firm’s expansion into other markets, with CMK BWI, Ltd forging a lasting presence in the Caribbean. In all of its projects, CMK Companies pursues a ceaseless quest for quality, value, and intelligent design in contemporary living.

235 Van Buren is far more than a new downtown residence; it is an exercise in true urbanism - eminent, contextual and identifiably modern. Standing like a vanguard at the threshold of the city, 235 Van Buren is an extraordinary new building set to enliven the Chicago city skyline. Located at the edge of the Central Business District, just one block from the Chicago River, it location is ideal, its view enviable. Conceptually, the design is an articulation of two masses, one providing a professional presence at street level, while the other pronounces entrance to the residences. Each mass is different; an all-glass façade to the south assimilates into the office towers behind it, while the cantilevered balconies framed in a concrete ribbon on the north identify it as a place of residence. 235 Van Buren adds a whole new element of magnetism and playfulness to the Chicago cityscape.

construction, both inside and out, reach well beyond the predictable—toward the iconoclastic. Prominent height and distinct angles make 1720 S. Michigan as much an aesthetic statement as it is a place to live. Outside, the structure is forged in concrete and steel wrapped in glass; living spaces are flooded with light and offer views of the surrounding city and lakefront. Inside, sophisticated and exceptionally livable designs, affording comfort and convenience, present a whole new approach to the concept of urban living. All of these elements, propagated through the practice of responsible sustainable construction, result in an extraordinary new residence in Chicago’s South Loop.
