BIG PROJECT IN THE GAMBIA

Old seats with old wood A big thank you to Bakewell Travel, Twiggs of Matlock and Pinelog of Bakewell who supported a couple from Bakewell and a big support from Bakewell and District Rotary Club. In January 2015 the couple visited a very poor area in the Gambia to check on water filters which the Aquabox filter

team made in 2011. After checking all filters were still working well they visited a local school in Brikama and discovered all the 48 desks had no wood for seats, backs, shelves and a desk top to write on. The photographs show number one classroom on Monday 16th November 2015 when the couple did an important job of

The second photo taken on Friday 20th November shows all the new wood fixed to the desks and the third photo taken on Monday 23rd November shows the students in Class one. The total of students in the school is 71 boys and 71 girls. There is no electric, no toilets and

they depend on Aquabox water filters for clean water. After getting most funding from Rotary the couple had an open garden to raise more funds for screws and metal. A big thank you to everyone who came to the event and donated for the project, by the way the

A MASSIVE THANK YOU TO THE EYE PLACE

Bakewell U14’s rugby team would like to thank Alex Kemp of the Eye Place Opticians for his kind generosity in sponsoring K.2 waterproof tops for the squad, which were presented to the boys by Jack his Optician on Alex’s behalf. Unfortunately Jack wasn’t able to see our boys in action due to yet another game being cancelled because of our waterlogged pitch. Our club dates back to 1928 with 140 members

but because we don’t own our own pitch it is impossible to receive any grants to improve the drainage. If we owned a piece of suitable land as a club we would be able to obtain funding to give the players a pitch to play on all season. If any landowners would like to offer us a piece of land please don’t hesitate to get in touch. U14’s manager Tree Law 07974 960209 treelaw1@gmail.com

CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEAR BIN COLLECTIONS Derbyshire Dales residents have been reminded that Christmas and New Year bank holidays mean their bin collections timetables will change in late December and early January. But to avoid confusion, the District Council will not be bringing forward any collections this year - bin teams will either be collecting on residents' normal day or later than usual. In addition to scheduled recycling (blue bin/blue bags) collections, the District Council's contractor Serco will do a household waste collection on consecutive weeks (w/c 21 and 28 December) to help with the usual build-up of festive throw-away material. To help prioritise household waste collections, all garden waste (green bin/compostable sacks) collections are suspended during those two weeks. Food waste collections will continue to happen weekly and recycling collections fortnightly. Every household in the district received a Christmas and New Year collections timetable in the
