Fidler Taylor Launch Their SHOUT OUT FOR CANAL BOAT CREW! 25th Year Celebrations

It is 25 years this month since Adrian Fidler began trading as an independent estate agent and general practice chartered surveyor. The Fidler Taylor partnership was formed just 3 years later and has since expanded further, growing through a reputation of giving sound, professional advice. In recognition of this milestone Fidler Taylor have

committed to a year of fundraising for the Derbyshire Air Ambulance. A launch was recently held where guests were treated to an informal evening of conversation, wine and canapes, within the beautiful setting of Haddon Hall. The evening included a short address by Adrian Fidler and an insight into a day’s work by Martin Gorman, paramedic,

on behalf of Derbyshire Air Ambulance Service. Derbyshire Air Ambulance is funded totally by charitable donations and the tireless work they do is justly recognised. Fidler Taylor have planned a growing calendar of events to which they will seek support from clients, local business, friends and family in an attempt to reach a

worthwhile figure. The launch, although not intended as a fundraising event, did draw £350 for the cause through a raffle and the generosity of the guests was most welcome. A diary of events can be seen at www.fidler-taylor.co.uk and donations for Derbyshire Air Ambulance can be made direct to Fidler Taylor or at justgiving.com/fidlertaylor.

TADDINGTON PHOTO EXHIBITION – Sheffield In The Sixties

The Bramwell Institute in Taddington will be opening its doors once again over the Spring Bank Holiday weekend to host the third in a series of exhibitions of local artistic talent which have been mounted this year. David Young, local resident and amateur photographer, will be exhibiting a number of predigital black and white

photographs from Sheffield - and slightly further afield -from the late 1960s. They include candid portraits of the famous and not so famous and capture the contrasts to be found in a period of significant change for the city – a hint of nostalgia for the end of an era, a vision of the future. Most of the photographs on display in this retrospective were

exhibited by the Sheffield Photographic Society and include many award winners. At the same time as enjoying the exhibition and perhaps answering the tantalising question of ‘Where are they now?’, visitors can experience the usual warm hospitality provided by ‘Taddington Teas’ with sandwiches, homemade cakes, teas and

coffee on offer throughout the day. Saturday 28 – Monday 30 May, 11:00 am – 4:00 pm Bramwell Institute, Main Street, Taddington, SK17 9UD. Village served by Manchester – Derby Transpeak bus service, connecting Matlock, Bakewell, Ashford, Chelmorton, Buxton. Ample car parking.

78-year-old heritage narrowboat Birdswood is looking for new volunteers to join the friendly, enthusiastic, communityminded team that runs popular boat trips on the Cromford Canal. Canal restoration charity the Friends of the Cromford Canal (FCC), which owns and operates Birdswood, is running a Volunteer Experience event on Sunday 22nd May. Visitors to Cromford Wharf, close to Arkwright's Mill in the scenic and historically important Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site, can learn about the charity's programme of public trips, charters, community engagement and school trips. There will be a short free trip down the canal for potential team members, with refreshments provided. Last year, Birdswood ran more than 200 public cruises - over 30 of which were horse-drawn - as well as private and school trips

plus seasonal Santa Specials, carrying almost 6,000 passengers in total. The charity is non-profit making and all surplus revenue from Birdswood's operations is spent directly on maintaining and restoring the canal. The ultimate aim is to reopen all 14 miles of it from Cromford down to Langley Mill, where it joins England's main inland waterways system. Volunteers are the lifeblood of the FCC – whether crewing on the boat, joining frequent work parties to keep the navigable waterway open or improve other parts of the canal's structures and towpath, working in the shop and information centre at the Weighbridge Office on Cromford Wharf, or helping behind the scenes with admin, project work, marketing and public relations. As long as you're over 18, age and fitness don't matter: there are roles for everyone who is keen

and has skills to share. Working on the boat or on the towpath can improve your health, you get to meet people, and there's full training that can lead to training to be a licensed boat master if you show commitment and aptitude. Volunteer shop staff also help visitors with canal history and heritage queries, as well as acting as

ambassadors for the FCC's work. Volunteer The Experience event is free to participating adults. It starts at 4.30pm, with the boat trip at 5.15pm. The boat only has 40 seats, so please register your interest in advance by calling 07552 055455 or online at https://www.birdswood.org/ contact/

BAMFORD TACKLES ITS PARKING PROBLEMS

The recent Annual Parish Meeting in Bamford was well attended, with residents expressing many concerns about the village’s parking problems. As a result, Bamford with Thornhill Parish Council has now produced a questionnaire listing a range of possible solutions which might alleviate the problems. The Parish Council is urging every

resident to use the questionnaire to give their views on which of the solutions should be prioritised for action; this will help inform subsequent discussions with the County Council’s highways team. The questionnaire can be completed online at https://www.surveymonkey. co.uk/r/DWJKFDN - or paper copies are available at Bamford Post Office.
