Mrs Smedley is a qualified Nightingale Nurse. Parents are being urged to take advantage of expert advice and get their child car seats checked for free. Derbyshire County Council’s road safety team has teamed up with specialist nationallyrecognised car seat fitters the Child Seat Safety company to help drivers benefit from safety checks on the following dates in our area: Tuesday 20 September •Buxton – Waitrose: 1.30pm-4pm Wednesday 21 September • Matlock – Sainsbury’s: 10am-12.30pm Derbyshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Highways, Transport and Infrastructure Councillor
Dean Collins, said: “It’s so important that seats are fitted properly to offer maximum protection. It’s vital that motorists who travel with youngsters understand the importance of choosing the right seat then get it fitted correctly.” The law says that passengers under the age of 12 must use some form of car seat unless they are 135cm tall or above. The type of seat a child needs depends on their weight. Advice about fitting car seats can also be found at www.childcarseats.org.uk – a website that was set up by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents with funding from the Department for Transport.
