Aquatics

Arthritis Foundation

AQUATIC PROGRAM

Location: Small Pool Kedron

Certified AEA Arthritis Foundation Program Leader

The Arthritis Foundation Aquatic Program is designed for anyone with arthritis, rheumatic diseases or musculoskeletal conditions. This class is perfect for those recovering from surgery or joint replacements. This low-impact, low intensity, safe exercise program will help with joint range

All adult age groups are welcome to join in these water aerobics classes, for a great workout in the pool. A variety of pulsating music from all eras will have you moving and working all the muscles in your body. Don’t miss this hour of fun, fitness and stress relief, in sociable surroundings. 55 + WATER EXERCISE

These 55+ Water Aerobics classes are specifically designed for persons suffering with Arthritis. The class format will involve endurance exercises followed by flexibility training that promotes full range of motion for all major muscles and joints. Depending on the participants in each session the instructor will try to keep one of the sessions more strenuous than the other. You can always take it to the next level on your own in either session or take it down a notch by backing off if the session is too strenuous. We want to accommodate everyone and offer two levels of classes.

Martial Arts

TAI CHI CHUAN

Location: Kedron Room 2

Tai Chi Chuan is a series of exercises developed to train fighters in areas of physical fitness, balance and centering as well as developing the type of relaxation that permits individuals to optimize their physical and mental abilities. Research has indicated that Tai Chi Chuan provides better results in reducing falls among the elderly than weight or balance training, aerobics and stretching. The class practices the 37 move short form as developed by Chen Man Ching from the original Yang Style long form.

Class taught by Sensei Walter Schmalenberger 3rd degree. This is a traditional style of karate with emphasis on courtesy, respect & discipline. This class will also get you in shape with various exercise and stretching. Traditional karate is taught with and without martial arts weapons. A strong emphasis on self defense is also taught against opponents with or without a weapon. This class will boost your confidence and build character. Come join us!

AIKIDO

Aikido is a traditional Japanese martial art founded by Morihei Ueshiba and is based on the principles of balance and harmony. It is an effective non-aggressive style of self-defense, focusing on awareness and taking control of a situation instead of being controlled by it.

KENDO SWORD FIGHTING

Kendo is Japanese sword fighting as the Samurai practiced 600 years ago. Now Kendo is practiced nationally in 47 countries world-wide. There are over 5000 people participating in the USA.

Participant will learn to fight and defend by using the techniques counter attack, disarming and more. Help build up self confidence. Learn the Art of Arnis, Escrima, Kali that can be taught to all ages. Physical workouts are designed for everyone of any age or fitness level.

Beginner Classes

Entry level classes are fed drills focused on techn ical instruction. Coaches can group students based on ability during drills. Forehand, backhand, serve, and volley will be introduced.

4-6 YEAR OLD

30 minutes/ 4-1 ratio. During this entry level clas s students will be taught fundamental hand eye coordination skills. Hand and volleys will be intro duced on the red ball and red net court.

1 hour/ 6-1 ratio. During this 1 hour entry level c lass students will be introduced to the forehand, backhand, and volley. Students will be asked to wor k together in cooperative partner drills and games. Fundamental hand eye coordination and basic techniq ue will be emphasized. Students can be grouped together based on skill. The red ball and net will be used.

Intermediate Classes

All students must be pre-approved by a coach prior to registration for our Intermediate and Advanced level classes. The classes will be rally-b ased, with technical instruction and point play emphasized through cooperative drills. Coaches group students based on ability.

Raise the Flag

Wednesday, June 11

History enthusiasts and members of the American Legion Post 105 celebrate Flag Day as we raise a flag to the past! Trace the history of the United States flag as they go through its iterations, beginning with the Revolutionary War to present day. An understanding of it is worth remembering and reminiscing in order to fully understand how the flag came to be. Hear about its meaning and the development over the years as we celebrate and honor the history of the United States flag on this special day. The American Legion Post 105 shares the true meaning its symbolism holds, discusses what it represents, and how it came to be an icon of America. Enjoy a live demonstration of the folding of the flag and learn what each of the 13 folds signify.

CANCELLATION POLICY

Refunds will not be issued for cancellations less than one week prior to the start date of camp. Payment must be received in full to reserve a spot. We reserve the right to cancel programs with inclement weather or low enrollment. Make-up classes will not be given for classes missed by participants.
