TEXT message stating that a man who drives a red Volkswagen Golf kidnapped a girl in Westering early last week Friday was described by police as a hoax and not linked to the kidnapping and rape of a teenage girl (16) in Cape Road, by a man driving a red Golf only hours later.

The victim was walking home from school when she was threatened with a firearm in front of KFC in Newton Park. She was pushed into the Golf at 1.15pm, drugged, her mouth duck-taped and raped somewhere unknown. Police now, however, say the first incident broadcast widely on networks was a hoax. “After intense investigation conducted by the Kabega Park police station, no evidence was found to clarify whether the first kidnapping occurred,” Capt. Sandra Janse van Rensburg, the police spokesperson said. The SMS, which was also sent to PE Express reporters on Friday morning stated: “Girl kidnapped in Westering area 5 hour (sic) ago. Car...RED GOLF VELOCITY, reg no...” (registration number known, but withheld from publication). She said the police could not speculate at this stage. “Officers immediately reacted to the text messages and visited schools all over to find out if such an incident in fact had happened.” Van Rensburg said nothing could be established and that no rape or kidnapping case had been reported that contained the details of a girl being abducted in Westering before the actual alleged kidnapping in Cape

she was drugged with medication or illegal substances. The teenager’s mother said she only wants to sleep and cries a lot. She also sustained internal injuries due to the rape. The Mount Road police-station can be phoned if anyone has any information. The teenager’s father is considering to laying a charge at the Human Rights Commission regarding the alleged poor service his child received at the Dora Nginza-hospital’s rapeunit.

Patients at Central surgery robbed PE EXPRESS REPORTER THREE armed suspects robbed patients at a doctor’s surgery in Western Road on Wednesday, October 19. According to the Atlas Weekly Crime Newsletter, one male and two female robbers, armed with fire-arms, overpowered employees and patients before 6pm. The armed trio forced their way into the building and locked everyone in a room at the back of the surgery. They stole two laptops and some of the patients’ cell phones.
After the robbers fled, one of the employees immediately alerted Atlas. Atlas security officers and police members were dispatched to the scene. The victims could not confirm whether the criminals fled on foot or in a vehicle. No shots were fired during the incident and no one has been arrested yet. . During a separate incident, three armed suspects robbed a business in Commercial Road, Sidwell, at 4.30pm on Thursday, October 20. Themenenteredtheshopandlockedthestaff in the cash office while they gathered their loot. They made off with the day’s takings. No one has been arrested. Police are still investigating.

Fireworks expected over much publicised Kabuso report BETTIE GILIOMEE THE much-publicised Kabuso report alleging corruption by senior municipal officials will be discussed during a special council meeting of the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality tomorrow. The investigation for the Kabuso forensic report on maladministration in the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality, is from 2003 to August 2009 and was done after the previous Executive Mayor of the Metro, Nondumiso Maphazi, asked the former MEC for Local Government and Traditional Affairs, Sicelo Gqobana, to do an investigation on numerous projects and dubious business transactions, such as lease agreements and the awarding of tenders. Meanwhile Helga van Staaden of Die Burger reported last week that the Hawks are investigating a case of corruption, fraud and bribery against Nceba Faku, former mayor of the metro and regional chairman of the ANC, after Rev. Xolani Tengo, chairperson of the Non-political Forum, laid a charge on October 17 with the SAPS. Tengo confirmed to Van Staaden that the charge resulted from details in the Kabuso report. Metro Security Services court case postponed THE Port Elizabeth High Court case between Metro Security Services and the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality has been postponed to November 24, where arguments will be made relating to whether documents that Metro Security are requesting from the Municipality can be released to them. The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality (NMBM), in their heads of argument, claim that the documents contain privileged information, but this matter is being disputed by Metro Security Services. In a brief appearance in front of Acting Judge, Albert Beyleveld, last Thursday, Metro Security Services advocate, Richard Quinn SC, argued that the documents, an internal audit report and corresponding in-house legal opinion relating to the security tender, should be released to the court and the various legal representatives,
so that the matter of their privilege can be debated and a ruling can be made by the court. Advocate Richard Buchanan SC agreed and the documents were released to the court and to Metro Security Services legal counsel, although an undertaking was given that the documents would not be released to Metro Security Services. Buchanan also requested that the November hearing be held in closed session. The court case between Metro Security Services and the Municipality has been dragging on since May last year, at significant cost to ratepayers, after the company was initially awarded security tender 45/5 in January last year – to provide security services to the municipality for a three year period valued in excess of R90 million – only to have the awarding of the tender withdrawn a few days later, citing that Acting Municipal Manager, Elias Ntoba, had not signed off on the awarding of the tender.
“Following unsuccessful negotiations to have the matter resolved and the tender finalised, Metro Security Services were forced to seek legal recourse on the matter, and have been locked in an ongoing legal battle with the Municipality to gain clarity over why the tender was withdrawn and to have the issue finalised ever since,” said Metro Security Services director, Kaashief Niekerk. An original PE High Court Order, made on May 6, 2010, gave the Municipality 14 days to finalise the tender contract. However, instead of doing so, Ntoba referred the matter back to the bid adjudication committee, without providing any reason for doing so. Subsequently, Metro Security Services approached the PE High Court under the Access to Information Act to have all documentation relating to tender 45/5 for protection/access control and escort services released to the company. This application was heard on January 19 this year and again the PE High Court ruled in favour
of Metro Security Services and instructed the Municipality to hand over “all documentation regarding decisions taken in respect of contract enquiry” within five days of the order. This was to include all written reports and recommendations of the bid evaluation committee and adjudication committee, as well as written decisions by the accounting officer and or the Municipal Manager. “After nearly 10 months of back and forth in trying to get all the relevant documentation, Metro Security Services has now once again had to return to the High Court to uphold its original court ruling and instruct the Municipality to hand over outstanding documents,” said Niekerk. Niekerk said although the matter was once again delayed, he was pleased that the matter surrounding the internal audit report would be debated and finalised and that they can then proceed with the main application relating to the tender itself.

‘Another Dal Story’ on the small screen soon ZELDRÉ SWANEPOEL A STORY set in the Bloemendal community was recently captured on film, and will be released on DVD soon. The play, Another Dal Story, which was written and directed by Benito Carelsen a year ago, was turned into a short film and shot within four days. Another Dal Story was a sell-out performance to the community last year and subsequently was also selected to be showcased at the Grahamstown Arts Festival this year. The play is about the life of a family in the suburb of Bloemendal. It centres on family life and life choices, morals and values. Carelsen joined forces with filmmaker Chris van Vuuren of United Studios and independent producer,
Pieter van Staden, to turn the popular play into a short film. Van Vuuren was also recently involved with the Nedbank television advert featuring the Freshlyground singer, Zolani Mahola. “I’ve been involved in the film industry for 38 years, and I want to state that the Eastern Cape has the best talent. It’s just that there is no work here to sustain our artists, and they have to move away to find work,” Van Vuuren said. He added that it was the first time he had shot a film in the Northern suburbs of Port Elizabeth, and found the experience very pleasant. “The cast is a bunch of super stars, and it was an absolute pleasure working with such an enthusiastic team. “The extras we used and the residents of the locations we shot in, were all very supportive and friend-
ly. I’m looking forward to doing more work with this cast and in this community.” Carelsen, an actor and playwright, said that he had learnt a great deal from the experience of both Van Staden and Van Vuuren, and that it had always been his dream to direct and produce a short film. “This is just the first step of many dreams coming true. Things are falling into place, and I am fortunate to have had such a great support system in my cast members and in the production crew,” Carelsen said. “We have now moved from the stage environment to the film-set environment, and it’s all very exciting. Expect many more things to come from this talented team.” He aims to write many more scripts for future movies.

Another take off for Velvet VELVET Sky, South Africa’s newest and first BEEE-owned Aviation Company, is adding yet another route to its flight schedule – Durban, Port Elizabeth, Cape Town – ahead of the busy festive season. This is the second new route that the company had added in a month and one that is expected to position it as a major contender in the price-sensitive low-cost domestic airline market. The first flight from King Shaka International Airport to Port Elizabeth leaves on November 4. Flights between the two centres will take place on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The first departure from PE to Durban is on November 8, opening the way to a weekly service on Tuesdays and Thursdays. According to Chief Operating Officer, Gary Webb, “closing the golden triangle” was the logical next step for an airline that is about to double the size of its fleet with two Boeing 737s undergoing stringent safety testing before taking to the sky. Up until now, Velvet Sky has concentrated on servicing the routes between Durban and Johannesburg and Johannesburg and Cape Town. “We are doubling again and joining the dots. Because we will be en route to Cape Town, it makes sense to stop over and offer
our consumers another low-cost package to Port Elizabeth.” Webb said that the recent recession which had put severe constraints on families’ disposable incomes, meant that South Africans were more likely to spend their holidays at a domestic resort than to travel overseas. In addition, Velvet Sky intended bringing on board a whole segment of the market that had up until now relied on buses and taxis to visit friends and families over the busy Christmas period. Webb said that less than 10 percent of South Africans have flown. Growing South Africa’s fledgling air travel market remains a Velvet Sky priority. “We believe that our fares are competitive enough to make flying an option. Given the anticipated carnage on our roads over the festive season, this is certainly a safer choice.” Webb said that Velvet Sky would ensure that its fares were and remained substantially lower than those offered by existing carriers with a ball park figure of R700 one way between Durban and Cape Town and R440 one way between Durban and PE. “We consider ourselves to be the consumer’s friend due to the fact that we work lean and keep our overheads low. Our business model is highly productive and we cut out the frills but keep up the service,” he said.

Albei oud-onderwysers gaan eerskomende week hul waagmoedstewels aantrek en die Kilimandjaroberg uitklouter. “Ons was albei saam in die laerskool en hoërskool en kamermaats op universiteit. Nou, ná soveel jare, het ons besluit om met ons albei se 50ste verjaardag die berg aan te pak,” het Hettie, oorspronlik ’n Kapenaar, gesê. Sy het bygevoeg hul groot klim begin Saterdag. “Gelukkig hoef ’n mens nie so fiks te wees vir die staptog nie. Daar is verskillende roetes was jy kan kies om te klim en ons pak die een aan waar jy vyf dae lank stap. Ons gaan die roete op ons eie pas aanpak.” Hoppie woon steeds in Kuils-rivier, maar die vriendinne hou daagliks

Local lad Jodi making waves in the Mother City ZELDRÉ SWANEPOEL
L
OCAL performing artist, Jodi Leigh Deerling, is making waves on the national and international entertainment scene. This actor/dancer/model from Malabar was recently seen on various television commercials for 8ta, Spur, Castle Light and Vodacom South Africa. On the international scene, he appeared in Zoo Zoo Vodafone commercials for India, an HP commercial, a Facebook commercial for India, and Trina Drink for Italy. He is currently on the small screen in a local production, Montana, as the character Pete. In the meantime he is also MC-ing and presenting for various corporate clients around South Africa. At the tender age of 26 he also has his own production company, Jo Productions. Living in Cape Town now, this local lad recently paid a visit to his hometown and the Port Elizabeth Ex press caught up with him with some Q’s and A’s.
How long have you been away from the Friendly City and what was it like visiting again after so long? The visit to Port Elizabeth this time round was sadly for a funeral of a dear cousin of mine. After being gone for as long as I have been it was also really sad to come back home and hear quite a few things. I guess as a Port Elizabethan, you don’t ever want to hear negative things about your home town, so I have immediately started with A Youth Development Project I am going to kick off with next year January in the Eastern Cape.
What or who inspired you to leave the safety net of your hometown surroundings to go and chase your dream out there?
I am very aware of what goes into my body. I am not someone who believes in diets, but rather to maintain a healthy
Fortunately for me, I have always had the most amazing support from family and with the net being gone, it has truly allowed me to fall when I have to. The truth is, my Creator has never let me down before and I know He never will, so when you are on your own, you learn how to become independent much sooner and you learn the trade tricks required to be a sustaining performer. My inspiration lies in the people who saw me as I truly was. Before I even realised my life would be about the entertainment industry, they already knew this would happen. So my inspiration lies in the eyes of my family and friends in PE – those who stuck by me – even when things were not as rosy as they are today.
Is Cape Town your home base now, and how different is it to living/ working in Johannesburg and PE? Cape Town is definitely my home base, as I run both brand and business from there and the one thing I like most about Cape Town is the fact that I feel it has the ultimate balance, with regard to work and relaxation. Cape Town has the outdoor life I love so much. Most of my work is international as Cape Town is regarded as the Little Europe, and it is the merging of Johannesburg and PE in one the relaxation and hectic life all thrown together.

What is your first love – dancing, acting or modelling?
My first love is without a doubt dancing. The reason for this is through music and the movement of my body, a story is told without dialogue and this for me is by far one of the most inspiring and moving gifts I have ever been blessed with. The reason for this is clearly believing my body is an instrument and I nurture it with the utmost respect, as
lifestyle, and I encourage people of all ages to do so, especially the youth, as we have only this one time to take care of what we have.
Any exciting future plans/projects of Jo Productions we should know of? Jo Productions is solidly focussed on the School Projects in

Cape Town and will be branching out into the Eastern Cape as well. The company has really grown from strength to strength as my personal brand Jodi Leigh Deerling has. The business has also been doing exciting small projects such as developing other young guys to start their own business, and it is now at a steady pace and still growing.

ance level with Jo Productions having a base out there at a later stage. So the community will always have me for advice.
What would your advice be to PE youngsters aspiring to follow a career in the entertainment industry? Being from PE and also knowing how tight the industry is, I would advise young and up-and-coming performers to also be creative. One must remember to be a performer is not just about being on a stage or a set of a film or TV commercial – there are other elements involved in being a successful performer. This is a business at the end of the day and one must treat it as such. They must bear in mind that they are a brand and one must be a brand that another company wants to buy. So get involved with each other and create your own shows; be professional and create a revenue of income; also remember that you need to always keep your skills updated, so always practice and be ready when the opportunity of a lifetime comes. When I am not running my hectic life, I am in a dance class, or I am at a singing lesson, or I am doing improvisation workshops these talents are given to us naturally, but as any skill you need to make sure you are always on top of your game.

THE saying goes “behind every successful man is a woman” and the good old hackneyed phrase will manifest itself again when South Africa Rugby Union (Saru) hits Nelson Mandela Bay in preparation for the upcoming Nelson Mandela Bay South Africa Sevens World Series tournament. Media and marketing officials – mostly women – have been hard at work since July this year planning the fun-filled, fast and exciting two-day event on December 9 and 10. “After months of waiting for the out-come of the bid to host the South African leg of the IRB7s HBSC World Series, it is finally a reality. Hours have been spent attending communication and marketing meetings – mainly with women colleagues – strategising and planning to ensure that over the next four years (including 2014) Nelson Mandela Bay is aggressively promoted via the event as a preferred tourism and sport events destination,” said Nelson Mandela Bay Tourism CEO, Mandlakazi Skefile. Skefile and her mostly female team have worked closely with Saru marketing manager, Sarah Mundy of Cape Town.
Mundy, who has worked at Saru for six years said, “I come from a sporting background. Working in a male-dominated environment has not been difficult at all. When you understand sport, it is all about the game. At the end of the day gender actually makes no difference to me.” Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality PR and Events Co-ordinator, Derusha Rangasamy, is also no stranger to working in an often male-dominated environment. “The municipality isn’t a male-dominated workforce. Our policy is to promote and implement equal opportunity job creation.” However, Rangasamy said while delivering on tasks for NMBM she often finds herself in rooms cluttered with suits. Sixteen countries participate in the fastpaced and hugely popular international tournament. Teams participating include the Arabian Gulf, Australia, England, Fiji, France, Kenya, New Zealand, Portugal, Russia, Samoa, Scotland, South Africa, United States, Wales and Zimbabwe. NMMU to brighten up Christmas for underprivileged kids PE EXPRESS REPORTER THIS Christmas season will have little ones from the Sinethemba Children’s Care Centre jumping for joy when they will all receive a Santa Shoe Box filled with gifts. This project, supported by the local Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU) Business School, had 40 Schools’ Leadership Academy staff members decorating the shoe boxes recently. NMMU’s Business School is participating in the national Kidz2Kidz Santa Shoebox Project – an inspiring community initiative since 2006 that co-ordinates the donation, collection and distribution of personalised gifts to children from underprivileged communities during Christmas time. This year the national organiser of the Santa Shoe Box Project set a target to reach an estimated 70 000 Children in South Africa.
According to Kim Keen, Santa Shoebox Project Eastern Cape Co-ordinator, around 29 facilities in the Eastern Cape, such as learning centres, HIV Aids Care Centres and Children’s Day Care Facilities, will receive around 2 500 gift boxes pledged by organisations, schools and individuals from the province. The Sinethemba Children’s Care Centre has been running for many years now and is a home for abandoned street children of all ages. The children have nowhere else to go and if it were not for Sinethemba they would most likely not have survived the harsh reality of being homeless. Sinethemba provides a caring environment with positive influences. “Participating is a profoundly valuable and personal experience, as the donor knows the name, age and gender of the child that he or she chooses to donate to, and the name of the organisation that cares for the child,” said Keen.
The Santa Shoebox Project originated in Cape Town five years ago. Since then, the project has grown from a mere 180 boxes to 32 000 boxes in 2010 - each year exceeding the annual target by 30 % to 50 %. In 2009, the project reached children in every corner of South Africa, and in 2010 pushed beyond our borders into Namibia and Botswana, with each country supporting its own children. “Management of the project is comprised entirely of volunteers. Satellite projects have sprung up not only in the big cities, but also in many small rural towns, each of which is run by volunteers who take the responsibility as co-ordinators for their areas,” said Keen. The Leadership Academy Director, Leon Mouton, said the NMMU Business School is encouraging organisations, students and businesses to become involved with projects and initiatives.

SuperD Fun Run in support of Divan Serfontein TANYA VAN ZYL THIS weekend young and old will be taking to the streets, taking part in the SuperD Fun Run in support of the young, disabled Divan Serfontein (14). He suffers from Hydrocephalus (water on the brain) and Myelomeningocele (a birth defect in which the backbone and spinal canal do not close before birth), and his medical expenses, as well as his day to day needs, are extremely high. In support
of him and to raise awareness for children with disabilities or critically ill children and the impact these have on the lives of friends and families, the fun run will be held this Saturday. It starts at the King’s Court Shopping Centre. For the brave and serious runners there is a 10 km fun run. Late entries can be done at King’s Court on Friday from 5.30pm and on the Saturday from 5.30am. The race starts at 7.10am on Saturday and the official cut-off time is 1 hour and 45 minutes. The cost for the 10 km is R30. For
more information on the 10 km race or for licence requirements, contact Eusentha Pillay from the Charlo Athletics Club on 0 084 665 0910. Then there is the 5 km fun walk/ run. The cost for this event is R10 per person and walkers can also order a SuperD T-shirt for R50 to walk in. The 5 km fun walk/run will start at 7.30am in front of King’s Court. There will be a prize for the school and company with the most entries and also the biggest team spirit. TENNIS enthusiasts in Nelson Mandela Bay can look forward to top-class tennis that will be played in December at 16 venues all over the city during the Eastern Province KeyHealth Series Tournament South African Junior Championships. During a launch-breakfast at the Town Lodge last week, tournament director, Suzette Bosch, said the South African Junior Championships will attract the best junior players from all over South Africa. More that 800 players are expected

A total of 121 tennis courts will be used during the tournament. Singles and doubles will be played. The age groups range from under-12 to under-18. According to Phrosné Phillips from the Nelson Mandela Bay Tourism board, the tournament will see about 2 500 visitors descending upon the city. “This is great news for the Bay. Tourism will be boosted. Shopping malls, restaurants, hotels and guesthouses will benefit greatly. The city will be a buzz.”

The first ever Indian GP, attended by an estimated 95 000 spectators, witnessed an invincible performance from the sports youngest-ever double world champion. The Buddh International circuit is a proper racing track. The undulation coupled with several off-camber corners makes it a real challenge for drivers. No fiddly, low speed, Mickey Mouse corners here! Despite the circuit’s not delivering one of the most entertaining races, there were still some notable drives throughout the

field. None more so than the world champion, Sebastian Vettel. From his thirteenth pole position of the season the world champion scampered off into the distance. In the absence of any real challenge from his pursuers Vettel strolled to his eleventh victory of the season. Not only did he secure pole position and the fastest lap of the race but he also led every single one of the Indian GP’s sixty laps. A more perfect performance is, literally, impossible. Imagine what the New Zealander could do with the mountain of talent just waiting to be moulded into a new echelon of the great Springbok tradition. Think about this, very seriously... So, yet another remarkable final has run its course; and making it even more extraordinary is the fact that of the five times these two teams have met in a Currie Cup decider, this was the first time the home side had won! And what a funny old game rugby continues to be. Indeed, in the 122 years of the competition’s history there cannot have been many stranger seasons. Just three weeks ago in Durban, John Plumtree’s Sharks reduced the Lions’ roar to a muted miaow, taking the league match at a canter, 53-9. In the light of this, how do you explain last Saturday’s 42-16 slaughter? Fact is you can’t. The right KZN team simply didn’t pitch up. With a few shining exceptions, the Sharks were pitifully poor. End of story: three tries to one that looked like a knock-on anyway. The Sharks and coach Plumtree, if he’s retained, will need to dive deep and do some serious introspection before they venture forth for the new season. Cricket: with the Aussies taking the ODI series 2-1, the Proteas will need to do the same before the test series starts.

Another first for Ocean Racing Series THIS Sunday’s Weekend Post Ocean Racing Series may witness what could be a first in South Africa and that is the attempt of a 2km ocean swim by a swimmer using only the butterfly swimming stroke. Kouga swimming coach, Brenton Williams, an accomplished open-water swimmer will be attempting the Dis-Chem 2km Ocean Swim on Sunday morning swimming just butterfly. The butterfly is the most difficult swimming style, but once an efficient technique has been developed, it requires less energy than most of the other strokes and is the fastest competitive style due to the synchronous pull/push with both arms. Williams is confident of completing the swim; his only concern is that he’ll have to try and swim clear of the other swimmers, especially near the buoy turns. “Training is going really well, but with over 250 swimmers expected in the water it makes things very tricky to clear my arms during the butterfly stroke,” said Williams from his Marina Martinique training venue. Sunday’s third round of the Weekend Post Ocean Racing Series takes place on Hobie Beach, starting from 9am and is expected to draw over a thousand participants and spectators to Hobie Beach. The Series features 5 simultaneously running events, with the most popular being the Dis-Chem 1km Ocean Swim where close on 200 swimmers will be expected. Also featured is a Dis-Chem 2km ocean swim, the Varsity College 5km Beach Run or 5km Beach Walk and the increasingly popular Kingfisher FM Kids 1km Beach Run/Walk for youngsters 12 years and under. With the events all taking part at the same time, participants may only enter one of the 5 events on any particular race day. Open to all, the Series offers finishers medals and Glacéau vitamin water for all finishers, whilst Series Members qualify for category winners medals and top 3 winners medals. Series registration is on www.oceanracingseries.com with late entries taken on the morning from 7.30am. Each race day the Series also realises a dream for the Reach for a Dream Foundation, with this Sunday’s Dream of a desktop computer being realised by the staff from Quantum Investment. The prize-giving and the dream presentations take place from 10am.
Global walk for diabetes The Port Elizabeth leg of the Global Diabetes Walk will be taking place on Saturday, November 19 at 9am from the EP Powerboat Club on the North End Lake. This 4.2km fun walk is used to raise funds for the global fight against diabetes. There is an explosion of diabetes worldwide and developing countries like South Africa are the worst hit. Research shows that approximately 4 to 6 million people in SA have diabetes and that most of these people are unaware that they have the condition. The World Health Organisation (WHO) predicts that these numbers could triple in the next 15 years. Diabetes SA is a registered national nonprofit organisation and a member of the International Diabetes Federation (that represents 147 diabetes organisations in 121 countries) and all proceeds from the Global Diabetes Walk will go towards the Nelson Mandela Bay branch of Diabetes SA to help inform, educate, empower and encourage people with diabetes and their families in their communities so they may take control of their condition. The entry fee for the walk is just R30 with the first 500 pre-registered participants each receiving a substantial goodie bag and a complimentary breakfast from Bokomo. Free diabetes and blood pressure screening will also be available at the EP Powerboat Club on the morning and aQuelle hydration for all finishers. Entry forms are available from all leading sports shops and selected pharmacies. Online entries can be done until November 12 on www.diabetessa.co.za or can be downloaded from the Zports website at www.zports.co.za.

Kragga Kammagholfklub vier groot fees CLARISSA VENTER PRESIES 10 jaar gelede het die Kragga Kamma-gholfbaan as ’n 9-putjie gholfbaan geopen. Maar, sedert verlede jaar is daar hard gewerk om dié baan in ’n volwaardige 18-putjie gholfbaan te omskep. Die omskepwerk is nou voltooi en belangstellendes het verlede naweek vir die eerste keer die nuwe baan uitgedaag tydens die 10jaar bestaansjaar-vieringe.

Vrydagaand was naggholf aangebied waar slegs 9-putjies gespeel is. Saterdag is ’n 18-putjie gholf-kompetisie aangebied. Deelnemers het toe vir die eerste keer kans gekry om die nuwe deel van die baan uit te toets. Marianne Hay van die klub het gesê die dag was ’n groot sukses met sowat 150 gholfspelers wat dit bygewoon het. “Baie het die baan as uitdagend bestempel en sal graag weer wil kom speel. Die naggolf was net so groot sukses,” het sy gesê.
