MARITIME MINDS SERIES

A pilot-session of the new “Maritime Minds” series was held in June with an audience made up of Oregon’s public ports. Merchant Exchange’s own Liz Wainwright was the featured speaker for this pilot session. During her presentation, she highlighted the data-collection capability of The Exchange, the 24/7/365 nature of Marine Operations on the River, and showed statistics highlighting vessel traffic and cargo trends.

The Merchants Exchange provided statistics with a 20-year-historical-look at vessel traffic trends ranging from Oregon’s International Port of Coos Bay to the Port of Astoria and across “Marine Highway 84”. Cargo statistics focused on grain (wheat, soybeans, corn), fuels and autos. Did you know 63,366,355,987 lbs of grain was exported out of the Columbia River in 2020? This grain went to 21 countries around the world!
