ifteen years… hmm… They are right, time does fly! Having so many great customers makes it really enjoyable! We listen to our customers and always trying to get the best possible bull out there. We truly need to keep the calving ease in our Charolais as well as maternal traits, of course it is a business and we get paid by the pound so easy fleshing performance is a must. The bulls must have an early gestation and be smooth with length and a good butt with gut capacity to finish early in the feedlots and the high yield that makes them the money. As Charolais breeders we are seeing the dividends paying, the more money they make, the more we make. We have no time for poor udders, as all calves must get up and suck on their own. We truly count it a blessing and a privilege to have so many valued customers over the years and appreciate all your comments! Y ease, the hair, the meat, the performance and the structural soundness that we all
ou must be impressed with the pen of bulls at Pleasant Dawn. They have the calving
want in our herd sires. The family has been in the seed stock industry for over 60 years and they have been raising quality Charolais for over half that period. They have strived to produce profitable bulls backed by accurate performance data and EPDs that validate what the animals will do in your program. Although Charolais are known as a terminal breed, this herd combines excellent maternal qualities if you want to keep daughters from these bulls. The cowherd is as nice of uddered, good milking set of females as you will find in most any breed. This is the top of the pen from over 200 cows that have been bred to work on grass on sandy and marshy land. There are many ½ and ¾ brothers to select from if you need multiple bulls and want to breed some consistency into your calf crop. As a bonus, the whole sale offering is polled and very docile. From red factor to white, from very easy calving to big performance, there is a bull here that will suit the most discriminating breeder. This bull has so many hard to gets. Such as having this much length combined with the depth of flank. Having this depth of rib and then having the natural spring of rib, not flat sided and carries the spring all the way back on his guts. Having this much length and guts on a super strong top line, says a lot about his width of loin. His length between his hook and pin bones. Usually a gutty bull doesn't carry this much red meat. Usually a bull with this much red meat doesn't have the top milking ability traits he has. Usually a bull this thick doesn't have the ultra smooth shoulders he has. Not to mention, the EPDs he has. Last year a full brother was our 2nd high seller going to Char-Maine Ranching. Going back to my Arrow cow that had 15 calves in 17 years. Not too often a cow in the 1% for milk lasts 17 years and is a Gold Star dam. Every year this cow throws me calves with huge butts tonnes of red meat. Our pasture consists of native grass with rough terrain, including sloughs, rock ridges and lots of bush. Pleasant Dawn bulls have worked extremely well in our pastures, having to cover a lot of acres in a day with our 300 head cow herd. Kathy and I raise beef for the consumer to enjoy, not cattle for show. We have always rail graded our finished cattle and rely heavy on EPDs. The Hatch family’s genetics have been a sound part of our crossbreeding program and has shown positive in our feedlot results. We have been through a few ups and downs in the cattle cycle and found that a solid crossbreeding program that gives us live calves that convert grass to beef and have the gut capacity to perform well in the feedlot will save us money at the end of the day. Until the consumer says they don’t like beef, I expect the Hatch’s bulls to be part of our herd. We are a mixed grain and cow/calf operation here at Vanbeselaere Farms. We have 5 Pleasant Dawn bulls working for us. We have run a closed beef herd for over 35 years. Terms: The terms of the sale are cash or cheque payable immediately after the sale in Canadian funds. All settlements must be made with the sale clerks before cattle will be released. The right of property will not pass until final payment is made. Bidding: Each animal will sell to the highest bidder. Bidders unable to attend the sale may phone their bids and instructions to the sale manager, auctioneer or special representatives. Bids must be received in sufficient time prior to the sale. Disputes: Bidding will be reopened between the parties involved. If no further bid is made, the buyer will be the person from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid. The auctioneer’s decision is final. Announcements: Announcements made from the auction block will take precedence over printed matter in the catalogue. Buyers are cautioned to pay close attention to announcements. Purchaser’s Risk: Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as sold. Animals will be cared for at the purchaser’s risk for a reasonable length of time. All animals left with the seller must be insured. Certificate of Registration: Each animal will carry papers issued by the Canadian Charolais Association. A certificate of registry duly transferred will be furnished to the buyer after payment has been made. Delivery: Assistance will be given in making delivery after the sale. The purchaser agrees shipping arrangements will be at the convenience of the seller, but will be as soon as practical after the sale, at the buyer’s risk. Breeder Guarantee - Bulls: Should any bull fourteen months of age or over, fail to prove a breeder after being used on cows known to be breeders, the matter shall be reported in writing to the seller within six months following the date of purchase or six months after the bull has reached fourteen months of age. The seller has the right and privilege of six months to prove the bull a breeder. No guarantee is given that semen collected from the bull will freeze. Exception Guarantee: In cases where the animal is subjected to any hormonal or surgical reproductive techniques after the sale, this guarantee shall be null and void. The seller is not responsible for damage caused by foreign bodies after the animal has been sold or for sickness not apparent at sale time. In no event shall the seller be responsible for more than the purchase price. Accidents: Although every precaution will be taken to protect the safety and comfort of buyers, neither the sale manager, auctioneer, or sellers assume any responsibility and disclaim any liability, legal or otherwise, in the event of accident or loss of property. By Livestock is only acting as a medium between the buyer and seller and is not responsible for failure on the part of either party to live up to their obligations; or for the truth of any warrantees or representations, expressed or implied. By Livestock assumes no obligation to enforce or collect monies between parties. By Livestock assumes no responsibility for any credit extended by the seller to the buyer. Any legal action taken in exceptional cases must be between the buyer and the seller. The buyer must look to the seller for fulfilment of all guarantees and representations.
