Downtown Doodles Youth Hand Artwork on Display [Grades 1-5] a look at the display case at Building & Pottery Take Everyone likes to doodle! And, West Ridge Center and see what the best thing about doodling is Wheel our students create in art classes. everyone has a talent for it! This relaxed, fun and creative class will focus on drawing people, animals and other subjects in a whimsical, cartoon-style fashion. Nancy Brown McCauley of Downtown Doodles will help each child unleash their imagination and uncover their own unique drawing style. Each week there will be a new project. Afterschool Cupcake Boss [Grades 1-6]
Design cupcakes just like you see on television. Our instructor will lead participants through the how to’s of design. Who says you can’t have it all? Join this class and create everything from pots to portraits. We’ll take a spin on the pottery wheel and use coils, slabs and the extruder to create tiles, pottery and sculptures. See how much fun you can have with slips, glazes and colored clays. Wearable Art NEW for Middle School Students [Grades 6-8]
Signature designs will be created by the middle school student of any skill level. Participants will make leather purses, embroidered patches, batik tee shirts and jewelry. Our creative teacher will not only teach you but she will bring out your creativity to make your piece of art unique. All materials are included in fee. Instructor: Debbie Goldstein. Down the hall from the registration desk, you will see an ever-changing display of pottery, sculpture and lots of children’s art. In addition, some of the adult work is for sale.
Ceramics - Gas & Electric Firing [Adults]
Beginners to advanced students, come explore the ceramics studio, which boasts a 24 cubic foot gas kiln and several Skutt electric kilns, along with a large slab-roller, extruder, 10 electric wheels, Raku kiln and more. The glazing studio offers a wide variety of high-fire, midand low-fire glazes, and is spacious providing students with plenty of storage space. Students will get quality instruction in the technique of his/her choice, whether wheel throwing, hand building, making pottery or creating sculpture. With tuition each student receives 25 lbs. of clay and the option to purchase more stoneware or porcelain as needed. Open studio hours (included with tuition) often averages about 30 hours per week (Tuesday-Saturday). The ceramics studio does not supply individual hand tools and brushes.
