President’s Corner It has been six months since the Gold Coast Region was reorganized, giving birth to the Gulf Stream Region. By no means was it a simple or easy event. Prior to it becoming official, there was much discussion amongst the Board of Directors as to whether this was a good idea, or something that would hurt the Region. The primary problem driving the reorganization question was: Is Gold Coast adequately serving the Northern section of our territory? Can we service a region that is as diverse as Gold Coast that covers Miami-Dade, Monroe, Broward and Palm Beach counties? The opinion of some was that we were doing a great job and that things do not need to change, and if we were to make changes, they should be minimal and not create a new region. On the other hand, the opposing opinion was more along the lines that Palm Beach was being underserved, and if Gold Coast divested itself of that northern part of the region, we could be more focused on Monroe, Miami-Dade and Broward. Not mentioned very much, but what I feel was a large percentage of the push for reorganization. was the desire for “selfdetermination.” People want to feel that they are responsible for their own destiny and members in the Palm Beaches are no different. Well, six months have passed since Gulfstream was created. Gold Coast allocated the territory that was agreed upon, and “seed money” was awarded to finance Gulf Stream’s initial operations. As of this date Gulf Stream has over 200 members and growing. It was the opinion of some that Gold Coast would lose as many as 1,000 members and be hurt financially. Well, as we look back on it today, Gold Coast has more members now than it did before the reorganization. The evidence suggests that the reorganization has been a good thing for both regions and for PCA. Looking at the upcoming Calendar for the months of June and July, (except for Parade on July 11th to the 17th) things are quiet. If you can get the time, you should really try to attend Parade in French Lick, Indiana: it is truly an exceptional experience for any Porsche-loving person.
In August on the 21st and 22nd is The Escape to Cape Coral will take place. If you have never attended an overnight event with the Club this is your chance. Great location, great food, great company and great cars. What more could you want?! As I usually do, I will be stretching the event a little for myself by going over on Friday, meeting the group for lunch on Saturday, and staying until Monday. After the Escape things will begin to pick up as we move into late summer, fall, and the holiday season. We have several charity events that we must address, as well as the Holiday Party that needs to be planned. We also have a DE event at Palm Beach International Raceway coming up in October. This will be the first DE event held with Gulf Stream and should be the first of many to come as we ramp up those DE programs. The last item I have on my list is a

plea to you, the membership. It takes a tremendous amount of effort on the part of several people to produce the magazine that you are now reading. The difficult part is not putting it together, it is getting the content, the articles that you the readers find interesting. If we do not have content, we have nothing. So, we are asking you, the members, to consider writing an article and submitting it for publication. The Kassette is only as good as the people who contribute to its content. We need you to be that interesting person who has something to share. I know the standard excuse: “I am not a writer.” This does not matter; we can help you! You come up with the idea and we will help you get it done. We want to hear what you have to say!
