Marple Newtown Scouting Report

Turnoversare the Lions' maior problem. They've been beating ihemselvesall year wilh fumblesand interceptions af key momenfs. Inconsisfantquarferbacking has compounded their problems. Running backsVic Meghefti, Kim Shore and Mike Randolph have consistantlygained yardage behind an offensive line whose blocking has improved with each game. The defensiveunit has also improved. ln the past three games no opponent has successfully completed a long march for a touchdown as all scores have resulted from fumble recoveries or interceptions deep in Penncrest lerritory. Linemen John Scala and Gregg Kanyer, linebacker Leroy Jackson and defensive back Mark Warner have added fine performances, complementing the e{forfs of such eslablished standouts as Hartranft, Randolph,Boston,Williams, Hoopes and Alyankian. Punler Vic Menghelti is averagipg over 40 yards a kick. When the Lions put it all together they have the poiential to beat any team on their schedule. Their fans hope today will be the day.

The Tigers are the defending Central League champions and prime contenders to repeai fhis year. Coach Harry Miller and his staff have done an outstanding iob in completely reversingthe football fortunes of a schoolwhich was a perennialloser only a few yedrs ago. In fwo-way star Ken Bradford the Tigershave perhapsihe most outsiandingback in the League. His offensive talents are ideally complementedby the power runningof Joe Basile and the clever option play artistry of sophomore quarierbacks Burke Maze and Pete Bar*lett. Linemen Joe Turner, Mark Saracinoand Steve Voglesong have been ouisfanding. The Tigers live up to their nicknamedefensivelywhere linebackerMark Morgena is a standouf, along with Bradford. Fresh from a rout of Nether Providence, in which the Tigers smashed the Provies' 27-game winning sfreak and a crucial victory ai Conesfoga,Marple Newtown should presenf Penncrestwith its toughest test to date.
