As the clock ticks down to the two-minute mark, the energy on the field at Grand Champions Polo Club in Wellington shifts into high gear. The 2018 World Cup final match between the defending champs, team Palm Beach Illustrated, and Grand Champions is tied up in the last chukker, with 10-goaler Juan Martin Nero—one of the top players in the world—having just scored a penalty shot for Grand Champions. Players and ponies crowd around the umpire anticipating the ball drop with bated breath. Oh, and there’s a $100,000 prize on the line.
