Falling in Love Again

Reader, I’ve fallen in love with someone who isn’t my husband.

On October 12, 2024, I met the other love of my life Carter Robert Raymond Frett.

It’s said again and again, and I’m not one for cliches, but all of the sentiments were true—I’d never felt a love that strong, and my life was forever changed by my son.

While I was experiencing the special kind of love tiny toes and baby snuggles evoke, I was also falling in love with my husband in a new way, witnessing him as a dad. I watched as a gentleness, a tenderness, ooded him each time he held the little swaddled being we hoped and fought so hard for.

In two years, we experienced two devastating losses. What could have weakened us made us stronger, more bonded, and surer we wanted a family than ever before.

I know rsthand the pain of a pregnancy announcement that isn’t yours or the envy beautiful family photos can cause. If you are struggling with infertility, I cannot promise you anything, but I can tell you not to lose hope.

I don’t believe becoming a parent is a necessary step for every couple. That being said, as you move through many years of marriage, life-altering moments will occur that change the way you view your spouse.

Possibly, it’s watching them excel in their career path, or the death of someone dear to them, or taking care of a new pet. These are all glimmering moments where you love them anew.

Last issue, I spoke about the wedding invitations slowing down as my friends and I enter the next stage of life—the one where we grow our lives with our partners. You will pass the ancé phase, the wedding planning haze, and the honeymoon bliss. Then, life is about choosing to continually fall in love and nd things to build that love around.

As much as this is a wedding magazine, to me, it’s always been founded upon being a marriage magazine. I hope selecting wedding orals brings you joy, that trying on dresses leaves you giddy, that your wedding day takes up the most footage in the highlight reel of your life. Even more than that, I want for you a ful lling, supportive, and devoted marriage—one where you keep falling in love with the person you chose.

All my best,

Let Sandestin Be Your Something Blue

You’ve got the dress, the ring, and the one. Now let Sandestin be the “something blue” that makes your wedding unforgettable. With stunning venues, expert planners, and every detail taken care of, your dream day starts here.

30A bride talks finding love, getting married, and posing for the cover

For Sarah Bovender, life has been about being in the right place at the right time.

She owes much of the joy in her life to living on 30A. Sarah spent 13 years in Nashville as a singer/songwriter before moving to Northwest Florida in 2018.

“I have such a love for Northwest Florida— the communities, beaches, and lifestyle create something truly special,” says Sarah. “I know I wouldn’t have met my husband if I hadn’t moved from Nashville to nd solace at the beach and pursue a peaceful life. This area softened my heart in many ways and made me emotionally available to even have a marriage. I owe this region a lot.”

In 2022, Sarah joined the real estate brokerage Compass, which has a regional and national presence. She was visiting an Atlanta o ce at the same time as a man named Andy Bovender. The two hit it o , and he invited her to join a company retreat in San Diego.

Brittany Sigler, owner of Destin Mobile Makeup Box, leaned into the coastal lux look with glowing golden skin and shimmering champagne eye makeup. Her hair was styled in a cascading modern French twist, ideal for a Florida wedding.

The dresses highlighted all of 2026’s hottest trends, including basque waists, corset tops, strapless sweetheart necklines, waterfall veils, and add-on accessories such as lace gloves. Each gown was adorned with gold, silver, and diamond designer jewelry.

The classic white roses were given a modern twist with layers of textured greenery in a bouquet curated by Bella Flora 30A. The talented Lillian Rose Baker of Goldie Wolfe Photography posed Sarah around the beautiful Oyster Bay Boutique Hotel property in Pensacola.

This year’s cover re ects the lush luxury and serene beauty unique to Northwest Florida. ▪

From the charm of the Forgotten Coast to the enchantment of the Emerald Coast, Florida’s Panhandle boasts some of the world’s most sought-after beaches. Gently lapping Emerald waves, your toes in sugar white sand, and untouched natural beauty combine to create a beach couple’s dream. Add to the mix world-class resorts, fresh Gulf seafood, and seriously stunning sunsets, and you can see why couples extend their wedding weekends, book destination weddings, and plan their honeymoons on Northwest Florida beaches.

HILTON SANDESTIN BEACH GOLF RESORT & SPA

“We chose the Hilton Sandestin as our wedding venue because it truly had everything we were looking for—breathtaking sunsets, white sand beaches, three pools, the outdoor patio, spacious rooms, and exceptional service. From the moment we arrived for our site visit, we knew this was the place! The staff made us feel welcome from day one, and the recent upgrades to the hotel only added to its charm. The moment that sealed it for us was stepping out onto the patio and seeing the sunset over the Gulf. We couldn’t imagine a more perfect backdrop for our special day.

“The level of service throughout the weekend was exceptional! Nearly every guest told us they’d love to return for a future vacation, and we think that speaks volumes about just how special this property is.” — Rashmi Surani, Atlanta, Georgia

SANDESTIN GOLF AND BEACH RESORT

Sandestin

“I would highly recommend getting married at the Beach Club at Sandestin or any other venue on property. Their planning staff are truly unmatched, and I believe this is what truly sets this venue apart from the rest. The Beach Club is really a unique venue, as it allows you to combine the relaxed beach feel with modern elegance. This was something that was extremely hard to find in the area, and we are so lucky that we were able to find a place that perfectly matched us as a couple.

“They streamlined the whole process for us and made it the day of our dreams. The planning team was able to take our vision and break it down piece by piece to make sure it was everything we wanted and more. We were truly able to enjoy our day, stress free, which was extremely meaningful to us.” — Rylie Sarver, Fort Walton Beach, Florida

“I was born and raised in Pensacola. There are a lot of venues there, and I knew I wanted to get married overlooking the water. Growing up, I always loved the charming historic neighborhood where Oyster Bay is beautifully situated. It’s hard to find venues with beautiful bones, and Mallory Studer did a wonderful job with the design, architecture, and layout of the hotel. It’s a space that’s easily adaptable allowing couples to make their weddings authentic.

“We had the hotel to ourselves, my family stayed there, and my bridal party and I party got ready there. The whole weekend was intimate without feeling crowded. It became our home for the weekend. “We love Panama City Beach. There are few places in the world that have as stunning of sunsets, and on the day of our wedding we had a beautiful one with photos that didn’t need much retouching. My husband always knew he wanted to get married on the beach, and his parents own a beautiful, waterfront home across from Pier Park. The home is very special to us—when we met in college, it’s where we would vacation and spend holidays. The emotional attachment made having our wedding on the beach there all the more special.

“The best part of our wedding was spending time with family and friends in such a special place. Panama City Beach was perfect for our extended wedding weekend because guests enjoyed beach activities, Pier Park, local restaurants and bars, and shops. It was such a fun and relaxing way to celebrate.” — Ingrid Docken, St. Petersburg, Florida

“We always knew we wanted to get married in 30A. Even though neither of us are from there, it quickly became our favorite place. During the pandemic, we discovered it was less than a seven-hour drive from Nashville and was the perfect little beach getaway— a peaceful, beautiful pocket of the world that felt like ours. When it came time to plan our wedding, we knew we wanted to share that feeling with the people we love most.

“From start to finish, every single person involved in our wedding made it feel like a dream. Summer Davis and the whole WaterColor Inn team helped bring our vision to life across the entire weekend. From the magical beach bonfire welcome party at WaterColor Beach Club to our ceremony at Western Lake Park and cocktail hour/ reception at the LakeHouse. “When I brought my fiancé to tour the venue, we were both completely astonished. Everything about it captivated us—from the stunning, modern-yet-coastal aesthetic to the breathtaking ocean views where we would say ‘I do,’ and the charm of the little town of Rosemary Beach. Besides the venue being absolutely stunning on its own, what truly made the experience so special was the incredible team behind it. They were there every step of the way, offering guidance, support, and genuine care throughout the entire process.

“I would recommend this venue without hesitation! The entire process was seamless from start to finish. My answer is always the same—I would do it one million times over at The Pearl. CATERING Curated

Diversity and community are at the head of the table when it comes to styling reception plates.

Sherri Williams, event coordinator for Townsend Catering in Santa Rosa Beach, says that couples are prioritizing fun, interactive dining at weddings over traditional dinner service experiences.

“It’s a little bit laid back at the beach,” Williams says. “The trend now is to be more fun, relaxing, and casual but elevated at the same time.”

Couples looking to live it up on their big day have more of an interest in mingling with guests and offering a variety of foods for all to enjoy.

“We are finding clients are having a more casual event,” agrees David Penniman, owner of Coastal City Catering in Pensacola, “where there’s not a seat for every guest but a lot of lounge seating and high-tops, small bites and fork-friendly foods.”

SERVICE WITH STYLE

Catering services offer couples several approaches to their dream dinner.

There’s the classic plated dinner with table service and meal courses, which, Williams says, is timeless but better suited for more traditional-style

weddings and larger receptions. Those looking for seated variety can opt for the dual entree, with half portions of two main selections combined for one impressive plate.

Then there are food stations or strolling stations where guests are served by workers manning each table. Here guests have the option to take what they like and pass on the rest.

Small plates, or micro-stations, are an option that enhances variety. For this, the couple would select three or more entree options to be served at stations in smaller portions.

ON THE MENU

Penniman says that interactive stations are a top trend with options like the raw oyster bar with on-site shuckers, makeyour-own poke bowls, bananas foster flambé, and pasta bars.

Williams says fun options that divert from the traditional have been popular.

“We’ll do a stir fry, where we actually have somebody out there using a wok to make the dish,” Williams says. “Street tacos have really made their appearance a lot this past year.”

“Global fusion stations offer a variety of culinary flavors from around the world, such as tacos with a Southern

twist and Korean barbecue short ribs,” Penniman adds.

Townsend Catering owner Donna Townsend notes that small plates almost always mean seafood to some degree.

“Most of our brides go for more of a coastal theme because we’re on the Gulf, so there’s lots of seafood, crab cakes, grouper,” she says. “We do lots of sushi with No. 1 grade tuna. We’re very coastal oriented as far as our menus go.”

Townsend says about 90 percent of the seafood they serve is sourced locally, from grouper and snapper to triggerfish and Gulf shrimp.

“Shrimp and grits are a staple down here,” Townsend says. And the grouper or snapper plated dinners, served with a roasted corn and bacon maque choux or a lemon caper beurre blanc, are popular selections.”

COCKTAIL TAKES

Fun and inventive takes have moved beyond the plate, too.

“There are more trends with bars and cocktails than there are with food,” Williams notes.

Gone is the mundanity of vodka sodas and rum and cokes. Reception bars are moving toward a more curated approach. Williams says that espresso martinis and old-fashioneds have become notable

favorites, and flavored margaritas pair well with the trending street tacos.

“Tequila has definitely made a comeback,” Williams says. “The margarita has been around, but now the trend is going for flavored margaritas like spicy watermelon, mango, strawberry, basil.”

And garnishes are having a moment, too.

“Edible flowers we’ve used a lot this past season,” Williams says. “Flower ice cubes are a huge trend right now.”

Ice with vibrant flowers or fruit frozen within can tie in with the wedding’s theme or color palette. Most flower types can be used, and the catering coordinator will work off the couple’s direction to align with the reception design.

Williams says that monogrammed ice cubes are cool with couples. And fresh fruit popsicles in champagne glasses are becoming popular as a refreshing postceremony treat to keep guests cool.

THE AFTERS

As dinner options move away from the traditional, so too are desserts.

“I see a trend in cakes kind of going away. We’re providing a lot of little bitesized desserts lately at weddings.”

Couples, Williams says, are opting to have a smaller cake for the ceremonial cutting and photo op, and adding strolling

stations with a variety of fun sweet treats for guests to indulge in.

“Self-serve and customizable dessert bars allow guests to choose their favorites or build their own plates, providing a fun and personal way to showcase the couple’s unique style,” Penniman adds.

Dessert stations can be filled with a spread of donuts, shot glass desserts, cookies, brownies, cheesecakes, gelato, or even an ice cream sundae bar. Townsend Catering also offers an ice cream cart rental that can be filled with cold treats like Dippin’ Dots, ice cream bars, or popsicles.

It certainly doesn’t hurt to cap the night with sweet treats. And a final mingle at the dessert station is the perfect way to unwind after a night full of dining, imbibing, and dance floor jiving. ▪

Custom cocktails for the couple are still in style, and desserts are the sweetest way to end the night.

Small Celebrations Bring

Big Impact

Planning a microwedding or elopement

Historically, the 2020 pandemic brought a resurgence of the microwedding and elopements. In many cases, small weddings became the only option for those who wanted to marry. Yet throughout time and today, many couples forgo large weddings for more intimate options.

A microwedding or elopement doesn’t equate to an occasion any less special or depersonalized; in some cases, couples can expand their wedding wishes by cutting the guest list.

“Couples today are craving intentionality,” says Lindsey Caldwell, owner of 30A Tablescape and Design Co. and Emerald Coast Marriage.

“Elopements and intimate weddings strip away the expectations and extravagance that can often overshadow the meaning of the day. They o er freedom to be creative, to celebrate on their own terms, and to invest in intentional, unique experiences as opposed to catering to a large number of guests.”

Microweddings are de ned as weddings with anywhere from 10 to 50 people in attendance. Often these weddings include a ceremony and reception, but with a smaller guest list, it could be shifted to encompass a private ceremony then a reception with guests, or a ceremony followed by a scaled-down dinner.

Traditionally, an elopement was a secret wedding often without parental consent. While this could still be the case, it likely isn’t in this day and age. Some couples keep their nuptials secret, but the modern de nition of an elopement is a nontraditional, intentional wedding experience that focuses on the couple rather than the guests.

In most instances, an elopement is just the couple, an o ciant, and a photographer and/ or videographer. Couples may have their parents attend or close friends, but typically the number of people present is less than 10.

Couples typically still have a venue and vendors. This could be just a photographer, clothing stores for your wedding out ts, and a orist for a bouquet and boutonniere. Or an occasion where you hire a planner to help you secure vendors such as caterers, bartenders, a orist, entertainment, and more.

Vendors such as Emerald Coast Marriage and 30A Tablescape and Design Co. have the unique opportunity to elevate small weddings by leaning into the couple’s story and customizing every detail.

“It's about exibility and thoughtfulness,” says Caldwell. “Perhaps it’s a personalized oral design, customized favors for each guest, a private chef dinner on the beach, or capturing candid moments in a more relaxed timeline.”

Large venues often have a guest count that needs to be reached. With a small wedding, options expand, and you can even become more creative. For elopements, couples often marry at a public park, nature preserve, a beach, or a location such as a bookstore or restaurant where they met (given the location’s permission).

Oyster Bay Boutique Hotel in Pensacola specializes in intimate as they have a full-property rental policy for weddings.

The eight luxury rooms are completely reserved for your wedding party.

“When you rent the Oyster Bay Boutique Hotel for a wedding, you can rest easy knowing that you are the only ones staying on-site and that our team is truly dedicated to giving you our utmost care,” says Stephanie Rosete, Oyster Bay event sales manager. “For microwedding and elopement weekends, the couple and a select few stay the weekend for an all-inclusive and secluded wedding experience where the welcome reception, ceremony, and reception occur on-site.”

To the opposite end, even large resorts can cater to small-scale weddings. At Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort, couples can marry at a beach ceremony on the Emerald Coast sand, have a garden a air on the Grand Lawn with its Southern charm, or overlook Choctawatchee Bay.

Whether an elopement or microwedding, couples are electing to make a weeklong trip of it all, directing their budget toward the experience and memories.

“Our resort o ers curated experiences and activities for your wedding,” says Olivia Moore, marketing and communications manager at Sandestin. “You can celebrate the entire weekend or week with us.”

With these close-knit options, the goal is optimal personalization, minimal stress, and an increased focus on connection with each guest. ▪

When considering a small guest list for an outdoor wedding, couples often choose the beach, a park, or a vacation rental.
A scaled-down dinner is a beautiful way to utilize vendors. An intimate dinner party can include a caterer, bartending services, florals, decor, and more.

Local bridal boutiques provide insights into what’s trending

The runways of New York City may seem a long way from the Emerald Coast, yet the styles seen at the most iconic weeks in bridal fashion are making waves that have a ripple effect at local bridal stores. Twice a year, the latest and loveliest in bridal styles are on display for couples to swoon over. While soon-to-be brides may gather ideas from this week, bridal stores benefit most as they gain insight into what styles to stock in their stores. Whether you want a dress pulled from the pages of Vogue or seek to infuse your wedding look with a trending piece here and there, a locally owned and operated bridal store’s staff are the experts in outfitting you.

Runway FROM THE Aisle TO THE

“If a bride wants that high-fashion, straight-off-the-runway look, we start by focusing on silhouette and styling,” says Brooke White, owner of White Weddings in Tallahassee.

With silhouettes, the cinched styles of corsets and basque waists are all the rage. Romantic and reminiscent of a bygone era, corsets and basque waists are flattering while on trend.

“These waists are very popular right now due to the shape they give our brides while feeling high fashion and modern,” says Adrienne Anderson, owner of Baytowne Bridal in Panama City.

Romantic and reminiscent of past decades, corset bodices, tulle skirts, and drop waists are the fashions of fairytales.

Goldie Wolfe Creative

30A Wedding & Family Photographer

To up the drama, White suggests pairing a corset bodice with gloves or an oversized bow as a nod to two other standout trends. To subdue and further romanticize the silhouette, consider softer pairings like a delicate tulle veil or pearl drop earrings.

Where fabric is concerned, it’s all about whimsy and airiness—think ballerina-core with an emphasis on tulle, ornate lace, ruffled chiffon, and liquid satin.

“We are seeing lace make a comeback, and we are loving it,” says Maggie Matthews, owner of Margaret Ellen Bridal. “The difference between lace now and a few years ago is that the lace is more traditional and heavier. We are seeing Chantilly lace with an eyelash trim whereas we were seeing a ton of floral lace appliques in seasons past.”

Lace has staying power as a fabric forever seen on wedding dresses, but the ways in which it’s incorporated continue to evolve.

“We’re seeing more sheer placements and negative space, which gives lace a modern, slightly sultry edge while still feeling romantic,” says White. “It’s a beautiful update that feels both timeless and totally current.”

Depending on your preference, tulle can be either the sophisticated yet structured look of signature tulle in a ballgown skirt or the whimsical, ethereal movement of layered ballet tulle.

Tulle moves past skirts and into accessories, including long veils, neck scarves, wings, capes, bow belts, and cap sleeves. If you want to experiment with the look but not fully commit, consider adding a tulle element for the reception. A tulle bow added to the train or a tulle overskirt over a short dress can create an altogether new look.

Other trends that will continue to dazzle over the next year include halter dresses, square necklines, gloves, sleeves, and delicate pearl detailing. For glam, the runways were filled with sleek buns, dewy skin, bold eyes, and romantic waves.

As trends go, try what you like, and leave what you don’t. Go all in, or add a trendy piece for your reception look. Try it on, and try it out. You never know what might surprise you.

When in doubt, trust the professional stylists and staff at your preferred local bridal store. They will not only guide you in style and fit, but they’ll also show you how to compose your complete look from heels to veil. ▪

Neck scarves add an element of beauty, drama, and old Hollywood glamour.
Chantilly lace with eyelash trim has made a comeback as an intricate and elegant option for dresses and accessories.

A guide to planning pre-wedding events

It used to be that a couple held a wedding ceremony and then invited family and friends to a celebratory reception, all occurring in the expanse of a day. Currently, from bridal showers to welcome weekend events, couples are opting to celebrate for many days and in many ways.

“Pre-wedding gatherings allow for deeper conversations, personalized moments, and space to slow down and celebrate in layers, not just in one rushed day,” says Lindsey Caldwell owner of 30A Tablescape and Design Co. and Emerald Coast Marriage. “With so many guests traveling in, these events offer a way to create connection and reduce pressure on the wedding day itself.”

Much like the wedding itself, these additional events have become a part of the planning

process, often enlisting planners and other vendors to provide a quality, cohesive, enjoyable, and memorable event for the couple and guests.

Outside of a bachelorette/bachelor party, popular pre-wedding events include the bridal shower, bridal brunch, and wedding welcome event.

Bridal Shower

The bridal shower originated in the sixteenth century to prepare the bride’s marital home. While gifts are still given, often from the registry, this has become a celebration for the bride, including her closest friends and family.

A bridal shower often occurs a few months to a few weeks before the wedding. Generally, the event includes food, drinks, games, and gifts. In the spirit of weddings becoming more interactive, many brides are opting to include build-your-own bouquet, jewelry, or candles as both an activity and a sentimental take-home gift.

“One of our most popular experiences is our custom candle pouring workshop—especially popular for bridal showers,” says Sharon Vaughn, owner of Miss Fizzwick. “This allows the members of each group to create a unique scent memory together in a creative environment.”

The pictureperfect reason to gather your gals or best guys is for a bridal brunch honoring the bride. Let the theme ring true to you!

Whether it’s down the street from your home or a destination wedding, the welcome party allows you to set the tone for the weekend and spend more time with loved ones.

Since this event is all about the bride, Caldwell suggests the theme, color palette, food, drinks, and florals all align with her personal favorites and share her story.

Bridal Brunch

A bridal brunch is typically hosted by the bride or her family to honor those in her wedding party: bridesmaids/men, mother of the bride, mother of the groom, flower girls, and so on. Here, the bride turns the focus on those who support and love her.

Brunch can be interchangeable with lunch or afternoon tea but typically not a dinner since the rehearsal dinner is held the evening before the wedding. This gathering tends to occur the day before or day of the wedding.

Brides take this time to show their bridal party just how valued they are, be it through presenting them with gifts, making a speech, or spending quality time with each person. Many decide to continue on with a spa day or by getting ready for the wedding together.

Caldwell suggests embracing the natural beauty of a garden or coastal patio, then styling the tables with “layered linens, different textures, place card alternatives, fresh florals, and a small gift at each place setting.”

While the vibe may be different, a groom’s brunch is encouraged as it offers the same communal feeling of appreciation and the opportunity for more wedding weekend bonding.

Wedding Welcome

Where the rehearsal dinner is reserved for those directly involved in the production of the wedding day, a wedding welcome is open to all. This is an especially popular occurrence when the majority of the guests are traveling. It should be highly considered for a destination wedding as a way of further thanking your guests for the money and time spent on travel.

The event should offer food, whether you elect to do passed appetizers, heavy hors d’oeuvres, or a seated meal. This would be an opportune time to embrace the local cuisine.

Caroline Boone’s company CC.Boone executes all aspects of wedding events from florals to feasts. Boone believes the wedding welcome can set the tone for the weekend.

“Choose a wide-open space for your guests to spread out and mingle,” says Boone. “A lovely playlist and signature drinks go a long way!”

Caldwell agrees that elements representing the couple are key, from cocktails to entertainment to the menu. Consider a favor that will be a meaningful memento honoring your love.

“Wedding guests can walk through the couple’s moments with a custom-scented candle,” says Vaughn. “Think ‘First Date at the Second City Coffee Shop’ or ‘Maui on Bended Knee’ as an idea of candle gifts that have highlighted memories from couple’s special moments.”

Remember to utilize a planner or your bridal party to help you plan these events, as they are intended to be fun, sentimental additions to your wedding day. ▪

the

country

Canopy oaks and sweeping pines have flourished for centuries from Northwest Florida’s rolling hills to wide-open spaces to the rare coastal dune lakes. This region presents a whimsically wild slice of nirvana brimming with native species and idyllic beauty. From nature preserves to venues situated on acres of land, country weddings are for couples who value the preservation of nature and love being inspired by the surrounding blooms of flora and fauna.

Take It to theMax

Bigger, bolder, betterthan-ever weddings

Move over, minimalism; maximalist weddings are taking center stage.

Today’s couples are stepping back from understated palettes and subtle touches in favor of dramatic and personalized statements of style that set a mood. Elements such as elaborate and lush florals, immersive lighting, dramatic entertainment, and custom-designed dance floor applications are just the beginning.

“It’s about showing who you are and surprising guests with details that dazzle,” says Kelly Rhodes, owner and lead planner of Southern Frills Weddings & Events in Pensacola.

Start with Florals

Florals have become the creative foundation and are no longer just for centerpieces. Now, every corner of a venue might be covered with greenery cascading from ceilings, blossoms wrapping around chandeliers, and blooms circling dance floors.

“Florals bring color, especially when linens stay neutral,” adds Courtney Morgan, the director of events at SunQuest The Event Company of Santa Rosa Beach. “Flowers are versatile and impactful. We’ve done everything from soft blush tones with hydrangeas to bright tropicals and high-contrast hues like chartreuse.”

Designers focus on layering florals at every level to draw the eye upward and outward.

Oversized flower-adorned ceremony arches, towering entrance displays, multi-tiered centerpieces, and elaborate bar arrangements create dimension and focal points.

Let There Be Light

Lighting has evolved so that it creates a multisensory environment. Custom projections of starry skies or couple-specific motifs transform ceilings and walls into art.

“Lighting sets the entire vibe,” Rhodes says. “We use uplighting to set the mood, pin spots on florals, dramatic overhead chandeliers, and candlelight as much as possible for true warmth.”

Big, bold florals paired with ornate fabrics make for ceremony centerpieces that wow.

Entertainment Worth Staying For

Entertainment is no longer simply a DJ and a playlist. String quartets and soloists are often added to accompany electronic music.

“We once built a hidden platform into the floor plan,” Rhodes recalls. “Right in the middle of dinner, a spotlight hit it, and a saxophonist rose up and started playing ‘Baby One More Time’ by Britney Spears. It wowed the head table.”

Personal expression is always on display.

“Coffee lovers may want a barista,” adds Rhodes. “One bride wanted a magician during the cocktail hour. We’ve rented a mechanical bull. The use of CO2 cannons can add energy during key moments, such as the introduction of the bridal party.”

Customized welcome bags for out-of-town guests have become increasingly elaborate, often including champagne, local food items such as pecans, hot sauce, and meat rubs, as well as lottery tickets and monogrammed favors.

“Brides love to weave in playful touches,” Morgan says. “Whether it’s a pasta-themed bash or an icebreaker at each place setting—it’s all about adding the couple’s personality into the experience.”

Maximalism does require practical planning.

“I always tell my couples: Go big first. We can scale back,” Morgan advises. “But don’t miss out on an incredible idea just because you didn’t know it was possible.”

Maximalist weddings may be more costly, but they’re not about excess; instead, they focus on expression and design choices that create unforgettable memories. ▪

Something NEW

Couples are opting to kick tradition in favor of their own spin

THE BEAUTY OF A MODERN WEDDING

is that it can be customized to your preferences as a couple. Maybe you want to keep it completely traditional. Possibly, you want to kick all traditional wedding expectations. Most likely, you will incorporate elements of tradition alongside unique, new ideas.

Below is a list of ways that couples are currently challenging traditions in ways that are fun, sentimental, and often economical.

WEAR WHAT YOU WANT

Adhering to the bride wearing all white or the groom in a classic suit color is one of the most expected traditions, but it may not be for you. Wear that hot pink ball gown or sequin skirt set. Grooms, go with whatever color feels most you. This is a wonderful way to showcase your sense of fashion and personality.

SECOND LOOKS

While rst looks between the couple have been popular for a while, second looks are becoming more common. This is where an out t change occurs between the ceremony and reception. Instead of revealing it just to one another, it’s revealed to the guests during a grand entrance or rst dance.

LAST DANCES

The rst dance is typically witnessed by everyone at the reception. A last dance, on the other hand, is just for the couple (and potentially a photographer or videographer). This is a moment for the couple to have alone, re ecting on their wedding day at the end of the day. During this time, the guests can be arranging themselves and preparing for the grand exit.

WELCOME

PARTIES FOR ALL

It used to be that welcome parties only occurred for destination weddings. Now, they occur at any kind of wedding as a means of spending more time with guests. In some cases, a

rehearsal occurs with just the wedding party and then all join for a party—or the rehearsal is scrapped altogether. Welcome parties can be as casual or extravagant as the couple wishes.

AFTER-PARTIES

It’s one of the happiest days of your life and you never want it to end, so why not keep the celebration going with an after-party? Couples are opting to make this a major part of the wedding weekend, extending the party at a new location, often complete with signature drinks, late-night bites, and entertainment.

WEEKDAY WEDDINGS

This one came about because of the pandemic when couples were scrambling for any day at a venue they could get. This can save you dollars and opens many more options for dates during particularly busy times of year. While making it a long weekend, such as a Monday or Friday, is preferred, any day is doable.

DOWN THE AISLE

Many women forgo the notion of being “given away” and are also opting for those other than a father to walk them down the aisle. Consider your mom, father figure, close family member, mentor, best friend, or pet. Make the best statement of self-love and confidence by walking down solo.

FORGO A WEDDING PARTY

Some couples just want it to be themselves and their fiancé at the altar. This doesn’t mean you don’t want your friends involved. It just means not in the typical ways. Maybe you don’t have a bridal party that walks down the aisle, but instead, you have close friends that sit in the front row. Maybe you forgo a bachelor or bachelorette party, instead hosting an intimate dinner or house party for your best friends in celebration of your love.

LATERMOONS

Let’s be honest, weddings can get pricey, and a honeymoon immediately after may not be feasible. There’s no rule saying the honeymoon must be immediately after the wedding. The planning is over, the wedding has happened, so take some time for rest, recovery, and routine. Then, within the next year, go on a trip where you can continue the celebration of your wedding day months later.

CREATIVE DINING

Don’t feel confined to sit-down dinners if it doesn’t align with your style. From buffet-style to passed courses to food trucks, dining options can allow guests to move about freely or experiment with a variety of different cuisines. ▪

To alleviate stress for all, opt for no bridal party, but instead set aside time to take photos with your best friends.
It’s a walk you’ll always remember— make it with whoever is most special and sentimental.

Fishers Flowers brings beauty to community causes

While vacationing in Italy, Grove Fisher became enchanted with the striking, romantic flower carts populating the piazzas of Rome.

Her fiance at the time, now husband Adam, turned to her with an idea to recreate such a business model along the picturesque beaches of their home in Walton County.

The Fishers who worked at Cafe Rendezvous, a restaurant in Seaside, began honing their skills by creating floral arrangements for their bars and dining areas. The passion flourished, and soon they began providing the same service for other eateries and hotels along Santa Rosa Beach.

“We grew organically,” says Fisher who started Fishers Flowers almost 18 years ago. “We were literally ordering flowers and making these arrangements out of our kitchen. Then, we floated back to our dream of a beachside flower cart.”

Because Walton County had a policy that, at the time, didn’t allow for businesses with non-permanent buildings, the couple turned to brickand-mortar in the form of a little cabin in Grayton Beach. Though not what they had envisioned, a beautiful journey took root.

Fishers Flowers became a recommended vendor for most of the communities along 30A that host weddings and events year-round. They soon excelled by working closely with their clients to create the floral aesthetics for the weddings of their dreams.

About eight years ago, Fisher says, their focus began to shift. “Both my husband Adam and I have a real commitment and desire to contribute to the community,“ she says. “We started devoting our energy to many of the nonprofit organizations we felt best benefited our area. We began working with these organizations to design their festivals and events in order to maximize their fundraising opportunities.”

Together, the Fishers became the design and event planning team behind some of the county’s biggest celebrations benefiting causes such as Alys Beach Foundation’s Digital Graffiti, 30A Wine Festival, Cultural Arts Alliance’s 30A Songwriters Festival, and the Destin Charity Wine Auction Foundation’s annual auction and patron dinners.

Fisher is honored to be on the board of directors for the Point Washington Medical Clinic and is very proud of the work the clinic is doing

to serve the under and uninsured citizens of Walton County.

Working about 10 of these a year, the Fishers have honed their craft of one-on-one collaboration, nurturing design befitting of these themes and brands, and fostering strong community relationships. Now, they are ready to expand their footprint.

“We are proud to be working this year with the Sacred Heart Foundation of Pensacola in bringing to life their first wine festival this March benefiting the children’s hospital,” Fisher says.

“Growing something from the ground up is tough, but utilizing our 18 years of experience and being a part of an area whose people continue to show up for one another to help sponsor and volunteer for these special causes is what makes our job rewarding.

“We are excited to continue growing by helping others meet their goals, and we look forward to seeing the benefits of these events come to fruition for the betterment of our communities.”

And color palettes? Forget the old blackand-gold formula. Lee says that embossed designs with a pop of color are all the rage at the moment. Walsh notes that brides are gravitating toward sage greens, creams, whites, soft pinks, and hints of yellow.

Modern calligraphy continues to dazzle, blending artistry with tradition.

“Whether it’s classic copperplate or contemporary brush script, calligraphy adds timeless elegance and can turn an ordinary piece into a memorable keepsake,” says Lee.

Signage has evolved beyond functionality to become a style statement.

“We created a client’s sign with beautiful lettering, which also had a layered pocket for flowers. Signage has so many choices to choose from, including acrylic signs, fabric backdrops, and a mix of materials like wood, linen, and even framed paper.

For the eco-conscious, sustainable choices are available. Be sure to check with your provider on availability, as these are a more niche option due to higher cost and printing challenges.

“There’s a wide selection of biodegradable papers,” says Lee. “Another option is invitations embedded with wildflower seeds for guests to plant afterward.”

Many couples are opting to add QR codes as they streamline the RSVP process. Lee notes that because QR codes aren’t aesthetically pleasing, she tends to place them on a separate card to preserve the aesthetic while still making it easy for guests to respond online.

With constantly shifting trends, Walsh recommends that couples keep an open mind to new ideas, as what’s in demand for save-the-dates may change by the time invitations are ready to be sent.

As Lee sums it up: “Paper sets the stage for your wedding. It tells your story before the first guest arrives.” ▪
