JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE TRACKHAWK DETROIT DYNAMO There’s only one number that matters, and it’s 707. That’s how many horses this Jeep’s 6.2-liter supercharged V-8 cranks out. Oh wait, there’s one more: 3.3. That’s the number of seconds it takes for the Trackhawk to lunge off the line and catapult to 60 mph. Zero to 60 in 3.3 seconds—that’s quicker than a V-12 Aston Martin AMR. Why does anyone, apart from Mario Andretti, need a 707-hp sport-utility vehicle? Because it’s probably the most fun you can have chauffeuring the kids to Krispy Kreme. Engage Launch Control, take a deep breath, and it’s the closest you’ll get to taking an ejector seat ride out of an F-16 fighter. And oh, the noise. As the trash can–sized supercharger delivers its 11.6 psi of boost, a wailing whine erupts. It’s the same sound as a twister in a trailer park. Come off the throttle and the angry snap, crackle, pop is pure tailpipe techno. What’s equally impressive is the way this 5,360-pound hulk carves curves. A cocktail of sticky Pirelli rubber, adaptive damping, and stiff springing helps the Trackhawk change directions like a spooked gecko. Yes, $87,000 is a lot to pay for a Jeep. But maybe not for a Ferrari-eater that can happily tow a 7,200-pound bass boat.

RANGE ROVER SV COUPE WHEN TWO DOORS ARE WAY COOLER THAN FOUR Just when you thought Range Rover prices couldn’t get any loftier, behold the magnificent two-door Range Rover SV Coupe. It’s all yours for a mere $295,000. Why a two-door when a Range Rover is all about versatility? Because it represents niche luxury, in much the same way the Rolls-Royce Phantom Coupe and Bentley Brooklands Coupe did a few years back. And there’s history here, too; the very first Range Rover, built in 1969, was a two-door. The SV Coupe is the latest creation from Jaguar Land Rover’s Special Vehicle Operations division and is nothing less than a hand-built masterpiece. While it looks like a regular Range Rover, only the hood and lower tailgate are unchanged.

Open the door and it becomes clear where that $300 grand goes. The cabin is awash with the finest diamond-quilted, semi-aniline leather, as well as walnut and sycamore veneers. Of course, this being a product of SVO, buyers can pretty much pick any materials and colors they want. Powering this classy coupe is Land Rover’s potent 5.0-liter supercharged V-8 specially uprated to 557 hp. Expect it to slingshot you from rest to 60 mph in 5 seconds. Just 999 examples of this very special Range Rover will be offered, with first deliveries expected this year.
