Celebrate!

CAPEHART

Most families have holiday traditions. In our family, we embrace a curious mix of American and Greek Christmas rituals, some traditional and others uniquely ours. For example, we have our 12-year-old twins make something every year; it could be an ornament, a dish for Christmas Eve dinner, or a holiday-inspired work of art. Our cookie baking always includes kourabiethes and melomakarona, in addition to gingerbread men. And we have two gift-giving occasions (our kids are particularly fond of this one): Christmas morning, per our adopted homeland, and on New Year’s Eve, when Saint Basil (the Greek version of Santa Claus) visits. Jenni and Joshua Coba have their own mixed traditions, which they share with their three young children. Since they celebrate Christmas and Hanukkah in their home, Jenni decorates for both holidays using objects she’s been collecting for decades. Not only do the Cobas make the season special for family and friends, they attach a charity to their holiday parties. Read about their joyful celebration in “Heartfelt Holiday” on page 72. This month we also present a special cover story featuring Miami Heat player Tyler Herro. Tyler models looks from the new Louis Vuitton men’s store in the Design District with a swagger and irreverence only a 21-year-old superstar could pull off. Check out his style, and read more about his ambitions, in “Super Herro” on page 56. And because it’s also the season for art, we have compiled a guide to Miami Art Week, which blissfully returns this month after a year’s hibernation. We cover the top art fairs, newest exhibits, and must-visit museums, and present conversations with movers and shakers in the art and design space. If you plan to partake in Art Week, you won’t want to miss “State of the Arts” on page 66. Wishing you a peaceful holiday with family and friends!
