SUMMER SKIN
In these months where it seems the weather has my skin bouncing between parched and sweaty, I’m newly obsessed with the seaweed-based products by Repêchage (itself a Miami-made brand) used at Spa E on Lincoln Road. I can’t get enough of the Hydra 4 Day Cream for a light way to moisturize all day. (Page 20)
GOOD SHADE ONLY
Speaking of skin, we can all use a reminder to cover up and protect ourselves from the sun’s damaging rays. That’s why I’m planning to add this on-trend woven straw bucket hat from Rabanne to my daily summer wardrobe. (Page 28)
As the heat index reaches new highs, it can be tempting to stay inside in the cool embrace of air-conditioning or simply languish under shade by the pool, fan and icy drink in-hand. Sure, there are days when that’s all a Miamian can be expected to muster. But in this travel-themed issue of Aventura magazine, we’re offering a myriad of ways to get out of your comfort zone and see the world—or even get away for a sweet staycation.
If you’re flying this month, chances are you’ll start your journey at Miami International Airport. While we can’t promise that you won’t encounter your share of delays, we can offer some respite while you wait. Turn to page 14 for Jesse Scott’s rundown of some must-not-miss MIA hidden gems for noshing, shopping, and even soaking up a little culture while you wait…and wait…and wait for your flight to board.
Consider yourself a travel pro? Many road warriors do, but we’re highlighting three Magic City travel influencers who have turned jet-setting into full-time jobs. Flip to Lauren Alexis Rodriguez’s “Life in Airplane Mode,” starting on page 50, to meet Jessica Poitevien, Kemoy Martin, and Jennifer Ruiz. You’ll get their travel tips and tricks—and get inspired to get out there and explore, as well.
Do your summer plans have you staying close to home, but a getaway is still on your wish list? Take note: new hotels worth the check-in are cropping up all over the 305. Turn to page 18 for my roundup of five of the most enticing new properties that have opened in recent months. From beachfront stunners to boutique offerings, there’s a suitable staycation for any taste.
Sometimes a simple change of transportation can offer vacay vibes—like hitting the road with the top down in a chic convertible. Turn to page 56, where Aventura’s automotive editor, Howard Walker, has hand-picked a selection of 10 topless wonders to consider for your next adventure in “Open Season.”
No matter where your summer journeys take you this month, don’t forget to follow us on Instagram (@aventuramagazine) and to subscribe to our Insider’s Guide e-newsletter at aventuramagazine.com to stay up-to-date on everything that Miami-Dade has to offer.

A brow lift can be one of the most rejuvenating procedures for the upper face—beneficial for both women and men. While the term brow lift may sound intimidating, especially given some of the overdone results seen in celebrities and public figures, the truth is quite the opposite. When performed correctly, a brow lift can yield beautiful, natural-looking outcomes. Patients often appear younger, more refreshed, and even friendlier.
Here are some key points to understand when considering a brow lift:
• Restore Natural Position and Shape:
As we age, the brows tend to descend and lose their youthful height and shape—especially the outer portion. A brow lift helps restore the natural contours and elevation of the brow.
• Enhance the Brow Aesthetic:
Some individuals naturally have lower, flatter brows—and this can suit their facial structure beautifully. Others may benefit aesthetically from a more lifted or arched brow. In these cases, we can modify the shape and position for a more attractive appearance.
Even a few millimeters of lift can make a significant aesthetic difference in the brows. The goal isn’t to raise the brows as much as possible—it’s to position them in the most flattering way for the individual, maintaining natural shape and expression.
Often, what appears to be excess upper eyelid skin is actually due in part to brow descent. If this isn’t recognized, a surgeon may remove too much eyelid skin—sometimes even brow skin—which can lead to complications. A brow lift can be essential to achieving optimal and safe results.
Men also benefit from brow lifts. While a lower, flatter brow is typically more masculine, excessive descent can create a heavy or hooded look. A conservative lift can restore a more alert, approachable appearance without feminizing the face.
Some individuals appear to have normal brow positioning at first glance. However, closer examination reveals they’re using their forehead muscles to constantly lift the brow. These “compensators” often develop horizontal creases above the brows, which cannot be treated with Botox without worsening brow droop. They may also experience fatigue or tension headaches from this constant muscle engagement. In these cases, the height of the brow may even look the same after surgery, however without the excessive strain and tension.
There are several options, which depend on individual anatomy and the surgeon’s expertise / preference. The endoscopic approach is currently the most popular as it lifts through several small incisions that are hidden inside the hairline. Other options include using the same incision as that of the eyelid surgery, making one over the brow itself, or creating one along the entire hairline.
In a city where the camera eats (and drinks) first, Sky Coffee Buenos Aires may just be Miami’s most Instagrammable caffeine fix yet. Originally launched in Brickell in 2023 and now grounded on Biscayne Boulevard in Edgewood, this Buenos Aires import is not your average corner café—it’s a full-blown airplane turned coffee shop.
Yes, you read that right: a retired aircraft has been retrofitted into a sleek java joint, now
parked like it just touched down between the 305’s skyscrapers.
Beyond espresso and ambience, Sky Coffee serves up a truly immersive experience. The fuselage doubles as a futuristic café, with minimalist design touches, cozy nooks, and service from a facade that once soared above the clouds. Outside, a chill zone of tables and reservable pods offer patrons a view of Biscayne Boulevard’s urban hustle as they throw
back a cortadito, sip a cold brew, or try one of Sky Coffee’s more creative concoctions.
Inspired by Argentine coffee culture with a Miami twist, the menu of noshables includes salads, toasts, soups, and baked empanadas. Meanwhile, the jet-set vibe makes Sky Coffee a magnet for creatives, remote workers, and anyone looking to sip their way through a unique slice of the Magic City. From their fan-favorite packing cubes to sleek new travel bottles, Mumi captures Miami’s vivacious vibe while helping people everywhere streamline their everyday. Aventura recently caught up with Mekler to learn more about her brand’s decade-long journey, what makes Mumi uniquely South Floridian, and what’s on the horizon. (mumidesign.com)

The Shelbourne by Proper Originally opened in 1940, The Shelborne has long been a destination for distinguished guests and cultural tastemakers. Designed by Igor Polevitzky and later updated by Morris
Lapidus, the building has undergone a $100 million renovation, restoring the 251-room beachfront property to its mid-century grandeur through the lens of Miami Modernism and Art Deco elegance.
Look for key historic features like the preservation of the iconic 18th Street façade and the pool’s famed diving board. When it comes to rooms, opt for a Pool Villa to be near the water-logged action, or fly high in a Terrace Suite to relax above it all as you overlook the tranquil Atlantic.
When it’s time for a bite to eat, head to Pauline, the property’s signature restaurant led by Michelin-starred chef Abram Bissell,
Another standout among the recent renovations of storied Miami Beach landmarks, the Andaz has been reborn as a chic oceanfront retreat with 287 stylish guest rooms and 64 suites that blend Miami charm with coastal glamour.

Or pop into Little Torch, an intimate cocktail lounge boasting Christopher Lowder’s outstanding beverage innovations. (Pro tip: try the coconut-aged Manhattan and thank us later.) (properhotel.com/shelborne)
The vibe here is free-flowing—literally— with no sharp corners in sight. Your eyes will glide across flowing curves in everything from the architecture to the furnishings to the intentionally curved palm trees—a purposeful design choice that mirrors the free-form ocean waves of the Atlantic beyond and pays homage to Miami’s Art Deco legacy.
Be sure to check out the hydraulic pool floor that rises to create a solid surface fit for music acts, receptions, and runway shows. Another must is the Ondara Spa, which offers afternoon and evening treatments that aim to rejuvenate and recharge travelers before nighttime festivities (expect Botox and filler, too). Morning treatments that support recovery and relaxation are also available. (hyatt.com/andaz/miaob-andaz-miami-beach)
Gale Miami Hotel & Residences
For a Downtown stay in the middle of it all—and adjacent to the new Miami WorldCenter—look no further than the Gale. This 240-key high-rise offers a room for every type of stay: from studios to one- and two-bedroom units, many of which are equipped with full kitchens and washer/dryer combos to support multiweek visits.
The property celebrates the history of Downtown Miami and its landmarks—like The Freedom Tower, which guests can gawk at from the hotel’s ninth-floor pool deck. Photography from the Miami History Museum is featured throughout, honoring the opening of the original Gale location in South Beach and giving guests and residents alike the chance to explore the allure of Miami from a bygone era.
After a long day exploring Downtown on foot, go for the Gale Wellness program featuring a co-ed hammam, a steam room and sauna, and a variety of spa services. Or stop by Casa Gianna, the hotel’s on-site, all-day restaurant for creative Italian fare and a full menu of Italian-inspired spritzes—the best way to catch a break from the Miami heat. Donatella Boutique Hotel
The official sister property of the Versace Mansion (known as The Villa Casa Casuarina), Donatella Boutique Hotel opened in Miami Beach this summer, reimagining a 1920s Wallace Tutt–designed property with just six curated rooms that channel their namesake’s elegance and fashion-forward allure. Be prepared to be pampered: each room includes dedicated concierge and butler service. Anchoring the hotel is Donatella Restaurant, which features a menu of coastal Southern Italian fare by chef Alessandro Morrone. The 170-seat space boasts an open kitchen, lush greenery, and hand-painted murals that evoke Mediterranean warmth and old-world glamour. (donatellahotel.com)
The Hotel at the Moore
For a chic stay that feels like a private residence, head to The Hotel at the Moore—the only place to spend the night in the Miami Design District.
The hotel is situated on the fourth floor of the Moore Building, which was built by renowned architect and entrepreneur David P. Davis during the 1920s Florida land boom. The neoclassical-style structure is set on a former pineapple plantation and once served as a furniture showroom and warehouse for Moore and Sons. The hotel’s debut marks the final phase of the landmark’s transformation into a new cultural destination.
No two of the 15 hotel suites are alike, and the property itself offers a variety of amenities, including a private members club (with a karaoke room, cocktail lounges, a game room, and a library), public restaurant Elastika (led by Michelin-starred executive chef Joe Anthony), workspaces, and an art gallery. The best part? Aside from its setting in the midst of some of Miami’s best shopping and dining, hotel guests at the Moore have access to the building’s full scope of premier amenities and hospitality experiences. GALLERIST
Galleria
Ca’ d’Oro
After relocating her renowned gallery last year, Gloria Porcella has made a home on what she considers to be Miami Beach’s most beloved street. “Lincoln Road is back and here to stay,” says Porcella, who adds that she and other gallerists have united to conceptualize a monthly gallery walk. Within the confines of this gallery gem are works by Rafael Barrios, Alessandro Florio, Ewa Bathelier, Phil Luangrath, and Favio Landeira. (galleriacadoro.com)
Spa E
Nestled in an idyllic courtyard, Spa E has long been a well-guarded self-care secret for in-the-know locals. Founder Brenda LeGrange swears by what she calls a “social spa experience.” As such, you’ll find recliners situated in a semicircle, with clients in need of beautification popping in for Spa E’s signature treatments. Don’t miss the Repêchage Facials; our favorite is the Splash of Seaweed treatment, which includes Repêchage’s signature seaweed mask, a soothing massage with multivitamin C-serum seaweed filtrate, and a cryo-seaweed mask to hydrate and enhance skin tone and clarity. It’s the perfect solution to instantly calm and soothe skin after a day in the sun. (spaesouthbeach.com)
Dog Bar
At this dog-centric lifestyle emporium, the vibe is unapologetically chic, the service is concierge-level, and every product tells a story (usually one with a designer label). From cashmere sweaters for Chihuahuas to CBD calming drops for your stressed-out sheep-a-doodle, Dog Bar sits at the glossy intersection of luxury, love, and leash-led living: quintessentially SoBe and effortlessly fabulous. YVES NAMAN IS BRINGING HIS BOUTIQUE HOTEL EMPIRE TO THE MAGIC CITY
BY NICOLE NEAL
Sunny Miami has rainy Belgium to thank for two new additions to the lodging landscape. That’s because when Brusselsborn hotelier Yves Naman makes decisions about where to live and work, he’s meteorologically motivated.
“Miami has it all,” says Naman, who operates a string of lauded properties in Mexico. “[It] has the sun and the sea. It’s a cosmopolitan, complete city.”
When his first U.S.-based boutique hotels open later this year, the city will be even more complete. Maison Felix, a 29-room hotel, is coming to North Beach; a second property, Le Particulier Miami, will be in Mid Beach.
Nine years ago, Naman decamped from Mexico to Miami. In his new South Florida digs, he noticed a gap in the area’s boutique hotel offerings. “I wanted to try to bring to Miami a hotel with under 50 rooms that really focuses on comfort, design, and genuine hospitality,” says Naman, whose properties in Mexico have been praised for their intimacy, personalized touches, and residential feel.
to North America, studying for his final year in Canada and then moving to Mexico City in the early 2000s with a couple friends.
Naman also missed the social and creative aspects of opening a new hotel. The back-office work he was doing, while necessary, was “nothing sexy,” he says. “I always liked design, and I always liked people. I like making new projects and trying to be before a trend.”
Trendiness should not be misconstrued as too cool— literally or figuratively. Naman has an aversion to the aggressively air-conditioned buildings of South Florida, and he also believes design must never trump comfort. “To have a good day and to be happy, you have to sleep well,” he says. “Sometimes hotels forget that.”
Architectural Digest describes Naman as “a prominent figure in the boutique boom,” but he considers himself an accidental hotelier. He went to business school and had his sights set on a career in the United States. But the events of September 11, 2001 made a U.S. move impossible. Instead, he broadened his scope
It was there that he bought a 1920s French-style townhouse and eventually transformed it into an eightsuite hotel. He went on to open 11 properties around Mexico, and he’ll add five more there this summer.
Naman doesn’t have a particular design style, noting that in imagining each property, he considers the region, the work of local artisans, and environmental sensitivities. He does, though, credit his formative years for his decorative sensibilities. The drizzly, gray weather of his native Belgium meant people focused on their home’s interior. And his mother, who worked in the fashion industry, kept an especially attractive and tidy home. “The house was always clean, neat, and perfect,” he says.
This, he continues, is what he likes most about hotels. Whatever personal problems guests bring with them, whatever chaos they may have in their lives, they get to be cocooned in comfort and cared for with genuine warmth and friendliness.

AT PINE CAY, UNDERSTATED LUXURY UNFOLDS AGAINST THE BACKDROP OF SOME OF EARTH’S MOST STUNNING BEACHES
BY PAUL RUBIO
When it comes to the exclusive world of private islands, today’s game often favors bigger villas, glitzier spas, and higher-profile guests. But one such destination stays true to something simpler—and far more lasting.
Welcome to Pine Cay, a private island in the Turks and Caicos that spans just 800 acres yet feels infinite, thanks to beaches and sandbars so broad and bone-white you can walk for miles without encountering another soul. The waters surrounding it rank among the clearest and most dazzling anywhere in the world, easily rivaling the best stretches of the Indian Ocean and far-flung Pacific.
The accommodations here lean into natural textures and open-air living, intentionally un-
fussy yet elegant. All 13 beachfront rooms and cottages feature blonde-wood furnishings, shiplap walls, and Dream beds (the same kind found at top-tier properties like the Four Seasons). Screened-in porches with comfortable daybeds and chairs ensure Caribbean blues are always in view. Interiors are designed to blend with the island’s palette: light woods mirror the sand, while surrounding frangipanis and native foliage add vibrant green accents. Every guest is assigned a private beach tiki for the duration of their stay, offering a shaded front-row seat to the sea without ever needing to reserve a lounger.
A digital detox is built into the Pine Cay experience. There are no televisions in the
rooms, limited cell service across the island, and an inherent slowdown that encourages you to live in rhythm with the tides. Trails wind through the island’s scrubby forests and mangrove thickets, leading to hidden gems like Flamingo Point, where flocks of bright-pink birds gather seasonally. Time your visit right and you can witness the glowworm phenomenon: a fleeting, magical light show wherein tiny marine creatures illuminate the water five nights after each full moon.
One of Pine Cay’s most beloved treasures is the “aquarium,” a shallow, crystal-clear lagoon teeming with rays and sea turtles. Guests
can pack a breakfast picnic and kayak across the placid waters, or venture further through the mangroves to Devil’s Cut, where spotting nurse shark fins and bobbing turtle heads becomes a lively (hands-free) game of whack-amole. Even the mangroves are unusual here: rather than murky, brackish water, they’re fringed by brilliant aquamarine, another quiet marvel that sets Pine Cay apart. For those who prefer their adventures a little drier, endless sandbars shift daily, creating the surreal sensation of walking across the sea itself.
Dining at Pine Cay strikes a balance between casual and refined. Fronting the pool and beach, the main restaurant serves fresh French-Caribbean cuisine under a thatched roof. Dinners reflect the island’s Relais & Châteaux pedigree, with thoughtfully prepared menus that change nightly. Tuesdays and Fridays turn playful with wood-fire pizzas crafted by an Italian chef who arrives by boat from Providenciales to hand-toss and bake the good stuff to order.
Meals are offered on a full-board basis, though it’s worth upgrading to the house-
inclusive beverage package to avoid counting every cocktail or glass of wine. An extensive for-purchase wine list caters to oenophiles, curated with a precision rare for a resort of this size. Meanwhile, the Beach Bar—perched directly on the sizzling sands—is an idyllic spot for shaded cocktails by day and unforgettable sunsets by night.
Life on Pine Cay unfolds on island time. Mornings might begin with yoga at sunrise or snorkeling trips over polychromatic coral reefs. Afternoons are best spent wandering the beach, kayaking placid waters, enjoying a coconut-oil massage in the spa, or simply doing nothing at all. Select activities like guided snorkeling excursions and sunset cruises are included, and every season brings subtle changes to the island’s landscape, colors, and marine life.
What gives Pine Cay its soul, however, is its stewardship. The island is collectively owned by a small group of residents who fell for its quiet magic decades ago. Many are longtime homeowners who still live here and are proud to share their island without ever crowding the experience. Thanks to their efforts, Pine Cay has remained refreshingly untouched by the heavy development that has transformed nearby Providenciales. Immersed in the beauty of Pine Cay’s secret shores, it’s hard to believe this bustling tourism hub is just a 20-minute boat ride away.
In total, Pine Cay offers a rare kind of luxury: space, simplicity, and an unfiltered connection to the natural world. It’s a reminder that true private island living isn’t about spectacle. It’s about finding a place so quietly extraordinary, you almost hope no one else will discover it. (pinecay.com) «
NORWEGIAN CRUISE LINE’S NEWEST SHIP MAKES A SPLASH
BY PAUL RUBIO
Norwegian Aqua, the debut vessel in Norwegian Cruise Line’s (NCL) Prima Plus Class, ups the ante with a bigger build, sharper design, and next-level thrills. Ten percent larger than its Prima Class siblings, Aqua flexes more space, height, and flash—enhancing NCL’s colorful, modern megaship aesthetic.
Adrenaline takes the spotlight on Aqua’s upper decks, where innovation meets pure fun. The Aqua Slidecoaster (the world’s first hybrid roller coaster and waterslide at sea) blasts riders across three decks on dual tracks, twisting and turning with powered propulsion. Nearby, The Drop dares thrillseekers to plunge 10 stories in a near-vertical dry slide. Glow Court pulses with energy, serving as a next-gen sports arena by day— its LED floor adapting to the game—and transforming into a slick dance club after dark. For a different kind of buzz, the Aqua Game Zone channels retro arcade nostalgia alongside immersive VR challenges. Out in the fresh air, The Stadium brings Ping-Pong, foosball, and outdoor recreation into the mix, rounding out the ship’s full-throttle fun.
Balance the high-octane action in the adults-only Vibe Beach Club, where designforward loungers, a fabulous rooftop bar, and chilled cocktails overlook endless blue. For a quieter escape, the Mandara Spa delivers with a two-story waterfall fronting warm and cool plunge pools, and a dreamy thermal suite featuring Finnish, Himalayan salt, charcoal, and clay saunas. Early risers looking to increase their step count onboard gravitate to Ocean Boulevard, which includes a cantilevered glass path for ogling the waves below.
Naturally, endless food and drink are integral to the Aqua cruise experience, with 17 restaurants and 18 bars and lounges—several of them new or improved. Sukhothai serves fragrant curries and wok-seared favorites in
a moody, transportive setting, while Planterie (tucked into the Indulge Food Hall) surprises with inventive, globally inspired plant-based dishes. Even the buffet stands out: meticulously clean and full of flavorful surprises like sizzling Szechuan eggplant, Caribbean ceviche, and crispy mushroom croquetas.
Cocktails flow freely across the ship, from rum-spiked mojitos at Metropolitan Bar to the dart-fueled scene at Bull’s Eye and gin martinis while people-watching at Belvedere Bar in the soaring Penrose Atrium. When night falls, the onboard theater delivers with productions like Revolution: A Celebration of Prince and Elements: The World Expanded—a visual symphony of acrobatics, illusions, and immersive sets.
Among the excess, The Haven debuts in its most expansive form to date. This privateaccess, forward-facing enclave feels like a boutique hotel perched atop a megaship. Expect the brand’s most luxurious suites (many with floor-to-ceiling views and some spanning two levels) plus a dedicated restaurant, bar, sundeck, and stunning infinity pool that seems to float above the horizon. The service? Impeccably tuned. A personal concierge, a 24-hour butler, and an attentive crew make it easy to disappear from the
crowds—and then rejoin them when the moment feels right.
Following a late-summer season in New York, Norwegian Aqua will begin sailing five- and seven-night Eastern Caribbean itineraries from Miami in October, all of which
include a stop at NCL’s private island, Great Stirrup Cay. The Bahamian retreat is getting a major upgrade of its own, including a longawaited multi-ship pier (no more tenders!), a resortstyle pool with a splash zone, expanded cabanas, and a second Vibe Beach Club mirroring the elevated feel on board.
All told, Norwegian Aqua is less about checking boxes and more about reimagining what those boxes can be. It’s sleek, thoughtfully designed, and packed with experiences that land just right for today’s cruise traveler—whether you want to go all out or find your quiet place above the sea. FROM A LONG WEEKEND TO A DAYCATION, THE FOUR SEASONS IN PALM BEACH BRINGS THE SUMMER FUN. EXPLORE OUR FAVORITE WAYS TO STAY AND PLAY.
BY DAPHNE NIKOLOPOULOS
There’s undeniably a lot to do at the resort, but it’s also tempting to take a joy ride around the island, especially now that traffic is diminished. And what could be more joyous than riding around in a baby-blue Moke? The Four Seasons’ in-house runabout is perfect for exploring Palm Beach in open-air style. Turn up the tunes, embrace windblown beach hair, and see the island from a whole new perspective.
Every parent who’s been to the Four Seasons knows (and loves) the Kids for All Seasons program. What’s not to love about sandcastle building and shelling, not to mention the grownups’ alone time? To layer on the fun, kids get access to Florie’s kitchen, where they work alongside resort chefs to create the pizza of their dreams.
Quality time with kids is a lot easier when there are fun activities in the mix. At Four Seasons Resort Palm Beach, a secret little spot beckons adults and kids to a friendly competition of mini golf, table tennis, or billiards. The new Palm Pavilion, a green (but shady) outdoor space, is tucked away behind the valet circle, so even finding it feels like an adventure. The star attraction here is an 18-hole mini putting green, but the billiards and Ping-Pong tables are great fun, too. Coming soon: a renovated tennis court, two pickleball courts, and a bocce lawn.
If your ideal day includes a spa treatment, lunch, and frolicking on the beach or poolside, drop everything and book yourself a Day Spa Pool and Beach Retreat. This full-day experience, available through September, is so rejuvenating that it feels like you’ve had a vacation. The package includes a massage, body treatment, or facial (ask for Olga); a credit toward lunch; and all-day access to the beach and pool. The resort will even throw in valet parking and a retail discount for the ultimate “me time” indulgence.
DID SOMEONE SAY BRUNCH?
The only thing that beats Sunday brunch is Sunday brunch by the sea. Seaway, Four Seasons’ alfresco restaurant perched at the edge of the sand, launched a brunch menu this summer, and every item comes with an incredible ocean view. It’s the perfect way to laze away Sunday.
Florie’s, by three-Michelin-star chef Mauro Colagreco, has a summer program of its own. Through September, a rotating Discovery Menu will feature seasonal dishes made with local ingredients. The menu is available every day, but you’ll find us there on Wednesdays, when select bottles of wine are half price. (fourseasons.com/palmbeach)
ROLLS-ROYCE DEBUTS ITS MOST POWERFUL CAR TO DATE WITH THE SPECTACULAR ALLELECTRIC BLACK BADGE SPECTRE
BY HOWARD WALKER
Best car in the world? No doubt the allelectric Rolls-Royce Spectre. Supernaturally silent, exquisitely refined, slingshot fast, and so smooth it feels like it’s riding on fluffy layers of stratocumulus.
That was my humble opinion after driving this majestic two-door super coupe back in 2023. But times change, technology advances, the world moves on. Fast-forward to 2025 and that original Spectre has, alas, lost its crown.
So what, pray tell, is the recipient of my newest “World’s Best Car” Oscar? Drumroll, please. It’s the ... Rolls-Royce Black Badge Spectre, officially the most powerful Rolls ever, and the most thrilling to drive.
A stealthy Black Badge version of the Spectre was a given. Introduced with the Ghost sedan in 2021, the Black Badge branding was designed to attract a younger buyer with its darker, moodier character.
But this Spectre version is different. There’s more substance, style, and performance. The latter comes courtesy of a discreet button on the steering wheel that activates the new Infinity mode. This unleashes an extra 75 hp of electric oomph, for a total of 659 hp. Add to that 128 lbft of stump-pulling torque to deliver 792 lb-ft.
The magic button also engages a new Spirited mode, which is Rolls speak for Launch
Control. Left foot hard on the brake pedal, right foot hard on the accelerator, step off the brake, and you’ll get full thrust to lunge this 6,370-pound behemoth off the line and hit 60 mph in an insane 4.1 seconds.
And there’s more. With the Black Badge spec comes revised dampers, tighter steering, and a reconfigured anti-roll system to sharpen the handling. How sharp? To showcase all this enhanced agility, Rolls rented the new 1.7-mile Motor Enclave racetrack in Tampa.
Wait a sec, a Roller on a racetrack? I was skep-
tical too. But with Infinity mode engaged, I powered into the Enclave’s tight first turn waiting for the car to wallow around like a freighter in a Cat Five. Not the case. Steering is sharper and more responsive, body roll significantly reduced, and grip positively leech-like. Mighty brakes too.
I had to try the rather silly, pedal-to-themetal Spirited launch mode. While 4.1 seconds is quite impressive for a car of this bulk, in these days of Tesla Model S Plaids (zero to 60 in 2.1 seconds), Lucid Air Sapphires (2.2), and Porsche Taycan Turbo S’s (2.4), the Rolls feels merely brisk rather than breathtaking.
But it’s on the highways and byways where the Black Badge comes into its own. It feels more athletic, dynamic, and engaging—and it does so without sacrificing refinement or ride comfort. It’s still the pinnacle of luxury.
There is also a host of exterior and interior tweaks, like blacked-out chrome, which now covers that iconic Pantheon grille and Flying Lady mascot. And, for the first time, the
PRICE: FROM $490,000 ENGINE: TWIN ELECTRIC MOTORS POWER: 659 HP TORQUE: 792 LB-FT

bathed in black, as are the available 23-inch forged alloy rims.
Inside, the noir theme is contrasted by a light show. In addition to the 5,500 fiber optics that make up the Starlight headliner, the doors get a similar starlight treatment, courtesy of 4,796 twinkly LEDs. It’s like having the Eiffel Tower inside the car.
With such a significant improvement in
driving pleasure provided by this Black Badge specification, why would any buyer settle for a regular Spectre instead? Yes, it’s a roughly $67,000 upgrade. But when you’re paying close to half a million dollars—the Black Badge starts at around $490,000 before options—what’s an extra $67,000?
BY HOWARD WALKER
e’re rocketing 30, 40, 50 miles an hour, that towering bow slicing through waves like a box cutter through packing tape. And then there it is, a big “60” flashing on the Garmin screen. Sixty miles an hour flat out is an astonishing velocity for any 67-foot, 60,000-pound, high-luxury express cruiser,
even one with 3,000 horsepower on tap. Those 3,000 horses, however, are delivered not from a pair of muscly diesels or big-block V8s, but from a quintet of 600-hp Mercury Verado V12 outboards. That makes this brandnew, South Carolina–built Scout 670 LXS the world’s largest outboard-powered boat on the planet.
It’s arguably one of the most stunning too. See it tethered at Sarasota’s Marina Jack and it looks slim and slender, lean and mean, and about a mile long. Yes, it has the trademark flared bow and swooping profile of Scout’s 530 model. But that sweptback windshield, shallow side windows, and endless hardtop give it a sleek, super-low-profile stance.
The teak-decked cockpit is perfect for entertaining a crowd or
some serious deep-sea fishing. Whether you want to pull in a grouper or the kids want to do swan dives, there are power-descending terraces on each side to help you do just that.
But perhaps my favorite spot on the boat, apart from the helm, is the covered dining/entertaining area just north of the cockpit. It is shaded, cozy, and protected by the substantial hardtop supports. It is air-conditioned too.
I also love the forward bow lounge, accessible by wide and deep walkways. It has a huge sun pad with tilt-up backrests and a U-shaped sofa with seating for six.
Below decks, the 670 offers roomy accommodations in three cabins. There’s an en-suite primary in the bow, a guest double on one side, and a twin-bed cabin on the other. They’re separated by a lounge area with a sofa, television, and small galley. Most owners will more than likely not bother to spend the night aboard but
rather use the space for napping, watching movies, showering, and cooling off in the air-conditioning.
Time to see what she can do. Casey Collias, Scout’s top demo captain, is on hand to show me the ropes. And right now, the ropes are being released for our afternoon of burning gas around the disappointingly calm waters of Sarasota Bay.
courtesy of a powerful bow thruster, stern thruster, and joystick control for the five Verados. A tap of a button also engages the Skyhook digital “anchor” that uses GPS to keep the boat in place while Collias pulls in fenders.
Out into the bay, hard on the throttles, and the 670 rises onto the plane effortlessly, like a Gulfstream on takeoff. Then we’re off, hitting 50 knots (or 57 mph) in less than a minute. What’s remarkable is the utter lack of noise. Those Verado V12s are renowned for their stealthy silence, but in the Scout, it’s otherworldly.
Now comes the wild part. Spin the wheel hard over at the aforementioned 57 mph—crazy, I know—and the 670 just leans, bites hard, and corners like a Porsche. Slamming into its own 3-foot wake is a nonevent.
While the Verado outboards deliver truly impressive performance, the other party trick comes when you reach your favorite sandbar. Tilt up the motors and the Scout can glide through water just over 3 feet deep and park its nose right up on the sand. That couldn’t happen with shaft drives or IPS pods.
With all these positives, there must be a negative, right? For me it’s price. A base 670 LXS will set you back a cool $6.85 million, with our test boat coming in at $7.51 million. The upcoming flybridge version will no doubt cost more. Yes, it reflects the state-of-the-art construction, comprehensive specification, and soaring level of craftsmanship. But it’s still a big number.
And yet, when that digital speedo shows 60 mph and you’re heading to Bimini for lunch, it all makes sense. «
FORGET BEING CHAINED TO THE DESK. THESE THREE MIAMI-BASED TRAVEL INFLUENCERS ARE TAKING FLIGHT, TRAVELING THE WORLD, AND INSPIRING OTHERS TO FOLLOW IN THEIR FAR-FLUNG FOOTSTEPS.
BY LAUREN ALEXIS RODRIGUEZ
Daydream Believer
Jessica Poitevien always knew she wanted to write—she just didn’t expect her words to be shaped by the pages of her passport. When she came across an article about teaching English abroad as a gateway to travel, the idea stuck. She changed her major from journalism to linguistics. After graduation, she settled in southern Spain. While teaching English at bilingual schools brought joy, Poitevien still had the itch to tell
stories. So, she launched her blog, She Dreams of Travel, a move that took her from classrooms in Seville to bylines in the likes of Condé Nast Traveler and Afar What began as a personal outlet
to document her experiences abroad soon evolved into educational reels and social media storytelling. “I try to lean into my journalism background with my content as well,” explains Poitevien. “I want people to walk away having learned something.”
She points to the rewarding comments her followers leave. “People would reach out and say, ‘Oh, your article really helped me travel to [a given] place,’ or they found my perspective on living in Spain, especially as a Black woman, interesting.”
For Poitevien, content creation is both an artistic outlet and a counterbalance to her work as a professional travel writer. “I’ll set up a day where I’m researching and figuring out who to pitch, and a separate day for the content I’m working on,” she explains of her split schedule. But once she’s on a press trip, structure gives way to speed—with 6 a.m. start times, packed itineraries, and late nights combing through copious notes.
“It’s not a vacation,” she adds with a laugh. “Of course it’s fun. I’m getting to see new places and nice hotels, but my brain is constantly on.”
While editorial work sharpens her storytelling craft, developing branded content gives her space to shape the narrative freely—a creative autonomy that keeps her inspired. “I get to use my creative energy for myself and the story I want to tell.”
There’s freedom in working on her own terms—but as Poitevien knows, flexibility often comes with a side of uncertainty: undefined hours, variable income, and the constant momentum of moving projects forward. Still, she encourages aspiring freelancers to pursue the path with an open spirit.
“Do you really want to tell stories, educate people, and help them travel?” she asks. “Or do you just want to travel?” The latter, she notes, might be better suited to a vacation.
As for her own roadblocks, fear and perfectionism once held her back—until she embraced a philosophy found in the pages of her favorite book, The Alchemist “Tell your heart that the fear of suffering is worse than the suffering itself. And that no heart has ever suffered when it goes in search of its dreams.” (shedreams oftravel.com)
Number of countries visited: I don’t know how many, but more than 30. Favorite airport for a layover: Istanbul airport. Great lounges and a lot of shopping. They also have scooters! Worst layover: In Dubai, my flight was delayed. It was supposed to take off around 3 or 4 a.m. It ended up taking off at 5 p.m. One place she’ll never go back to: I haven’t had an experience that bad yet. Left her heart in: Spain Favorite travel souvenirs: Notebooks. I have a million of them from different countries. Window seat or aisle: For a long flight, aisle all the way. For a short early morning flight, window. Solo travel or trip with a friend: In general, with a friend. Underrated travel spot: Zagreb, Croatia Trick for making a hotel room feel like home: Unpacking. I used to never unpack, but now I am big on it.
Hanging toiletry organizer: This model from Vera Bradley keeps me organized with all my hair products, skin stuff, toothbrush, contact lenses, etc. (verabradley.com)
AirPods Pro: For listening, of course. But sometimes I even use them use as earplugs to block out noise. (apple.com)
Luggage scale: A portable luggage scale that attaches to the handle of your luggage is really helpful. If you shop while traveling, you can weigh your suitcase and rearrange things before getting to the airport. (tumi.com)
A college semester in Oaxaca, Mexico, redrew Kemoy Martin’s road map for life. Once he had returned stateside after graduation, the feeling that his immersive travel had unlocked lingered (even as he stepped into a 9-to-5 job as a caseworker). “If I could find a way to travel the world and make a living, that would be the dream,” he thought.
So, he got to work—devouring personal development books, investing in mentorship, and slowly building the belief that the life he envisioned was his for the taking. Now he’s stepped off autopilot and built a digital empire, offering access to his jet-setting lifestyle and the mindset shifts that helped him design it.
For Martin, the wake-up call came as he stared down stacks of paperwork at his desk job. “I felt like my future was in the hands of someone else,” he recalls.
That’s when his roommate gave him The Success Principles, a book
that reframed his perception of what was possible. That same friend encouraged him to “put himself out there” and sharpen his speaking skills. Martin—a natural introvert—signed up for Toastmasters International, which helps members hone their public speaking. That move led to a high-ticket investment: a $30,000, yearlong course aimed at elevating his personal growth.
“I was extremely coachable,” he says. “I understood there was so much more for me, and I was willing to do whatever it took.”
Martin embraced entrepreneurship and found that travel didn’t just come with the territory—it was a strategic tool to amplify his business ventures, which included real estate, wholesale, and a network marketing travel club. “Every time I would go on trips, it would attract more members and partners,” he says of how catching flights catapulted his audience. Eventually,
Martin launched his own coaching program and leveraged the pull of travel to amplify that venture, too.
Noticing Martin’s creative eye and growing traction online, a friend who’d been securing brand deals herself nudged him to consider the creator economy. Intrigued, Martin booked a ticket to Travel Con (a global event for travel professionals) and landed his first partnership: a Juneteenth campaign with the Memphis Tourism Board. Today, he approaches content creation through a strategic lens. “I’m a blend of personal development, marketing, and travel, all
wrapped up into one,” he says. “That’s just me.”
For someone with a high-flying lifestyle, Martin’s daily rhythm is finely tuned: juggling brand deals, brainstorming content, and creating in the signature style he refers to as “edutainment.”
“I pay attention to the hook, rhythm, and structure,” he says, noting that nothing makes it to the feed without purpose.
On less hectic days—when he’s not catching early flights or chasing a deadline—you’ll find him in prayer, journaling, or tuning into a sermon on YouTube. “I don’t really have a perfect structure,” he admits. “But that’s my foundation.”
Looking back at the semester abroad that started it all, Martin has seemingly built the life he once dreamed of—and then some. Just ask his ever-growing community of 1.1 million Instagram followers, or the brands and platforms—Forbes, Walmart, and more—that now tap him for partnerships.
But at 30,000 feet up (literally and figuratively), Martin will tell you he’s nowhere near done. “I’m certainly grateful, but I feel like I’ve only scratched the surface in terms of what I can do.” Today, the same conviction that once pushed him to take the leap still charts his course: “I just always want more.” (instagram.com/kemoy_martin)
All-purpose carry-on: A bag that keeps my gear organized—camera, drone, laptop, hard drives, and chargers—is essential. Having everything in one place makes airport transfers and day trips way smoother. I recommend the Nomatic Navigator 32L backpack—it’s all about compartments and comfort. (nomatic.com)
Passport: Beyond a necessity for international travel, it symbolizes freedom and opportunity. Every stamp is a reminder of the places I’ve been and the stories I get to share.
Reading material: I always bring a personal development or self-help book. It’s how I sharpen my mindset and keep growing. Whether I’m on a plane or winding down after a shoot, reading helps me stay focused and inspired.

Favorite travel souvenirs: Memories Window seat or aisle: Window
Seflie trick for killer travel photos: Use a tripod. Unpack or keep it all in his suitcase: Keep it all in my suitcase. Tells that someone is a pro-traveler: How they deal with inconveniences while traveling.
Before she was known as “Jen on a jet plane” on Instagram, travel expert, award-winning journalist, and TEDx speaker Jennifer Ruiz’s day-to-day leaned more toward office hours than open skies. Ruiz had spent most of her twenties powering through school and work, leaving little room for adventure. With her thirtieth birthday approaching, she decided to close out her twenties with a bang: 12 trips in 12 months, all while touching down in time to be back at her desk Monday morning.
Soon, Ruiz set off on her selfproclaimed world tour. It was already an ambitious goal, but it was one she ended up not only meeting but exceeding. “By the end of that year, I’d been on 20 trips—in 41 cities and 11 countries,” Ruiz says.
But the turning point came when her evening pursuits—exploring travel blogs, mastering self-publishing, and attending industry conferences—proved more fulfilling than her day job as an attorney. She booked a one-way ticket out of her law career and into a new journey: teaching people how to travel.
Ruiz says her message of accessible travel unfolded organically. “So many people think that travel does not apply to them,” she says, pointing to airfare as the biggest barrier that keeps would-be globe-trotters grounded. She encourages travelers to think differently.
“Once you find a cheap flight, you can find everything else pretty affordably,” she explains. That concept formed the foundation of her first book, The Affordable Flight Guide, and remains central to her platform today.
COURTESY OF JENNIFER RUIZ
But the journey hasn’t always been sky-high selfies and farflung escapes. Reflecting on her early days as a full-time travel influencer, Ruiz admits the path came with turbulence. Two years after she quit her corporate job in April 2018, the world shut
down due to COVID-19. This greatly impacted her income streams—from travel book royalties to blog traffic. Ruiz was forced to adapt. She got active on TikTok (which eventually became the first of her platforms to hit a sixfigure follower count) and started lending her social media marketing savvy to local businesses until the travel industry rebounded. Ruiz says she has learned to stay nimble, pivot with purpose, and diversify—knowing her skills can carry her wherever the algorithm goes.
A day in her life is anything but typical. Some weeks she’s jetting off on back-to-back press trips, conquer-
Xing marathon 14-hour days in transit all while on assignment. Others, she’s home in Miami, navigating book edits and reaching out to brand partners.
But amid all the action, Ruiz makes time to pause. Fresh off a 19-stop book tour across the United States and after visiting more than 13 South American countries on behalf of Lonely Planet, she’s embracing a season of stillness. “Anything you love that you turn into work is work. So it helps that it’s fun.”
Evidently, Ruiz’s most fulfilling career milestone wasn’t making partner—it was making Monday mornings optional. (jenonajetplane.com)
Number of countries visited: 51 Favorite hack for scoring cheap flights: Flight alert programs, like going.com Worst layover: Stranded for 24 hours in an Italian airport. Tensions got so high the National Guard was called in to prevent a riot. One place she’ll never go back to: I had a rough time in Argentina. I would go back and make a different memory there. Left her heart in: The South of France. Lavender and sunflower fields…chasing van Gogh and the real-life places he painted. Favorite long weekend trip: Puerto Rico. It’s a short flight from the East Coast, with pink lakes, caves, beautiful beaches, and natural pools. Favorite travel souvenirs: Magnets. They’re easy to pack, and I love seeing my fridge covered in memories from everywhere I’ve been. Window seat or aisle: Aisle for long flights, and window for red-eyes when I just want to knock out and be left alone. One travel no-no: I never post Instagram stories in real time. If I’m posting about a hotel, I’ve already checked out. Trick for making a hotel room feel like home: I use a hanger with clips to keep the curtains shut and the room pitch black. Carry-on or checked bag: I wish I could always fit into a carry-on, but more often than not I go with a checked bag.
Packable backpack: If I know I’ll be hiking or shopping, I throw a foldable backpack like this G4Free 20L Travel Hiking Daypack in my carry-on in case I need extra space later. (g4free.com)
Phone charger: This Anker 20K battery pack charges my phone at least three times, which is essential— because if your phone dies while traveling, it’s full-on panic. I once ended up yelling across a canal in Austria to strangers for help! (anker.com)
Refillable water bottle: I fill it before boarding because you get dehydrated fast, and again before leaving the airport. You never know if you’ll land at 2 a.m. and have trouble finding water. (owala.com)
WHEN IT COMES TO ROAD TRIPS, THERE’S NO MORE EXCITING WAY TO GO THE DISTANCE THAN BEHIND THE WHEEL OF AN OPEN-TOP CONVERTIBLE. HERE ARE 10 OF OUR FAVORITES.
BY HOWARD WALKER
We can dream a little, right? Cadillac’s glorious Sollei four-seat, all-electric convertible is one of those dream machines that conjures heavenly images of cruising the California coast or winding along a snaking Carolina mountain road.
Unveiled last year, this one-off concept is essentially a two-door, drop-top version of Cadillac’s all-new $340,000 Celestiq electric luxury limousine that recently went into production in the Motor City. Like the Celestiq, it has big electric motors front and rear, juiced by GM’s Ultium battery pack; they deliver a combined 600 hp and 300-mile-plus range. Air suspension gives it a magic carpet–like ride.
I love the pale-yellow Manilla Cream paint (which Cadillac debuted in the late ’50s) and the matching leather interior with contrasting, open-pore wood trim.
While there are no firm production plans, the Sollei is too good a convertible not to be built. It helps that Cadillac’s Celestiq program is all about bespoke creations, so the Sollei has a chance of making it, no doubt with a $500,000-and-up price tag.
If the trusty Swiss Army Knife came with four wheels, it would be called the Lexus LC500 convertible. Here is a sublime twoseat grand tourer that does everything right, makes everything look easy, and looks spectacular while doing it.
While the LC has been around for five years now, it still looks fresh, elegant, and super sexy, with its mile-long hood, dramatic “spindle” grille, and ski-slope-raked windshield. Its leather-lined interior is a master class in stylish, unfussy design and supreme comfort.
Fifteen seconds is all it takes for the multilayer cloth top to take a trip beneath its hard cover and let the sunshine in. Raise the windows and there’s hardly a rustle of wind disrupting the cabin at speed.
Much of the car’s considerable appeal comes down to that wondrous 5.0-liter 32-valve V8 nestled beneath the hood, emitting little more than a kitten’s purr even when revving to its 7,100-rpm redline. It’s coupled to a 10-speed automatic that surely runs on liquid Teflon. Yes, there’s a hybrid version, but you wouldn’t want it.
Of course, there are more thrilling, more driver-focused, more rewarding sports cars out there. But the LC (which begins at $107,800) makes every journey an event.
Road trips are meant to be shared. So, while a fancy two-seat Mercedes SL might be big on style, the practicality, versatility, and rear seats of Mercedes’ brand-new $85,000 AMG CLE 53 cabriolet make it the perfect alternative.
Drop the top—20 seconds closed to open— and you’ll be feeling the sun on your face and the wind in your hair. With power from a mighty twin-turbo 3.0-liter mild hybrid in-line 6 making 443 hp, expect a lot of windblown hair.
Mercedes-Benz retired the previous CClass and E-Class convertibles and replaced
them with one model, the CLE. It’s an ideal not-too-big, not-too-small compromise that still allows decent rear-seat kneeroom and a sports car feel.
And it drives like a dream, courtesy of that AMG-tuned 6-cylinder powerhouse, AMGmassaged suspension, time-stopping brakes, and snorting exhaust. All-wheel drive comes standard for on-rails cornering.
A bold face—defined by Mercedes’ iconic Panamericana grille—and striking 20-inch rims give the car an elegantly imposing look. Just pack light as trunk space is on the tight side.
No roundup of road-tripping convertibles would be complete without some kind of Porsche 911 in the mix. These days, Porsche offers a mouthwatering selection of no fewer than seven magical models. Eight if you include the folding-top Targa 4 GTS.
The base, and arguably the best, is the 911 Carrera cabriolet, with 388 hp and a $140,900 sticker. The astonishing Turbo S cabriolet has 640 hp and 2.7 second zero-to-60-mph sprinting. Pricing for that rocket ship starts at around $243,200.
What’s the appeal? Everything from constant evolution—the first 911 Cab debuted in 1983—to its iconic silhouette, unique and still quirky rear-engine layout, thrilling performance and driving experience, and remarkable build quality.
While that mighty Turbo S Cabriolet offers more fireworks than the Fourth of July, my favorite is still the base Carrera. Top down on a twisty mountain back road, it delivers nothing less than driving nirvana.
When you want to take the road less traveled on your soft-top adventure, some low-slung Mazda Miata ragtop isn’t going to take you off the muddy beaten path. But an old-school Land Rover Defender 4x4 could. Alas, Land Rover quit building them in 2016 after 68 years of production. However, the passionate Brits at Kissimmee-based E.C.D. Auto Design stepped up to create a lineup of fully restored, rebuilt, and thoroughly modern Defenders.
My favorite? The bespoke 110 Soft Top, priced at about $250,000. Based on a rebuilt 1995 D110 model, it has seating for up to nine, a removable roof, a quilted-leather interior, and a laundry list of options that includes everything from bike and paddleboard racks to cooler mounts and serious stereos.
But the real surprise and delight is what’s under the hood. No wheezy four-cylinder gas motor here; instead, there’s a GM LT1 “crate” V8 just like the one you’d find in a Corvette, packing 455 hp and coupled to a 10-speed automatic.
That GTC badge says it all: Grand Touring Convertible. Bentley’s new four-seat drop-top is a car to cross continents in, a car that will make any drive a jubilant occasion.
The big news for 2025 was Bentley’s dropping of the beloved W12 12-cylinder powerhouse and replacing it with an equally potent but more socially acceptable plug-in hybrid twin-turbo V8. High-zoot first-edition Speed and Mulliner models packed a massive 771 hp. For the ’26 model year, Bentley has the “not-exactly-base” GT and Azure options with a
671-hp version of the V8. Each one can drive for 30 miles on electric power alone.
While this new Continental GTC is distinguished by a freshened front-end design, with single headlights in place of the original dual lights, what hasn’t changed is that astonishing performance, majestic ride, and world-class craftsmanship.
For full joy, tap the convertible top button and watch as the multilayer canvas roof descends or raises in a mere 19 seconds. Just look at those stars. Prices start at around $250,000.

Cruising top down in a classic ’60s Mustang has to be the definition of cool. But you’d better have a toolbox in the trunk and your mechanic on speed dial if you don’t want your road trip to end in tears.
Orlando-based Revology Cars might just have the solution with its gorgeous 1968 Shelby GT500 KR convertible. How come? Despite its 1968 origins, it’s actually a brand-new car, with all the reliability and dependability that comes from using new components.
It starts with an all-steel monocoque chassis strengthened with aerospace-style structural adhesives. Under the hood there’s a supercharged Ford 5.0-liter Coyote V8, packing 710 hp and mated to a 10-speed automatic or 6-speed manual. The beauty here is that it won’t overheat in traffic or leave pools of Pennzoil on your garage floor.
I recently drove the coupe version of the Revology KR and was wowed by the quality, craftsmanship, and modern-day feel of the car. The interior is just a work of art. Naturally, the price of all this quality doesn’t come cheap. Conversations start at around $350,000.
Sometimes you just need to get from A to B in the blink of an eye. Think: a pickup at the airport, a can’t-miss dinner date, or a blast along California’s snaking Pacific Coast Highway north of San Francisco for the sheer fun of it—all with the top down to let you smell the roses.
The car to do it in is Aston Martin’s newly minted Vanquish Volante, with its thundering 824-hp twinturbo V12, 214-mph top speed, and zero-to-62-mph time of just 3.4 seconds. It’s the fastest, most powerful open-top production Aston to date.
The other key number here is 14 seconds, which is the time it takes for the Aston’s multilayer fabric roof to unlatch, descend, and fold neatly beneath its hard cover. For ultimate coolness, drop the top with a tap of the key fob as you approach.
And there’s real visual beauty that comes standard with this beast (which is priced at around $500,000). It might just be the most beautiful car in the world, with that gaping maw, the dips and dives of its bodywork, and that swept-back windshield. The interior is Aston Martin bespoke craftsmanship at its finest.

One word signifies the ultimate in hyper-luxury convertibles: Droptail. That’s Rolls-Royce’s moniker for its handcrafted, two-door, open-top, $30 million grand tourer. And yes, you read that price right.
To date, Rolls has built just three Droptails, with the newest being this pearly-white Arcadia masterpiece, developed from a sketch created in 2019. The painstaking build involved more than 8,000 hours on the intricate woodwork alone. The final result was delivered early last year.
Loosely based on the now discontinued V12-powered Phantom Drophead, the Droptail has had every one of its body panels subtly resculpted,
with the most dramatic change coming at the back. Here the rear deck is a woodworking tour de force, with the Santos Crown open-pore veneer laid at a perfect 55-degree angle. Inside there’s seating for just two, with the seats trimmed in two-tone tan and white leather, surrounded by acres of that Santos Crown timber.
The two other Droptails are named Amethyst and La Rose Noire. Like the Arcadia, they were built to fulfill their owners’ fantasies. Interested in your own Droptail? Rolls-Royce’s Coachbuild division is awaiting your call.
You can count the number of production electric convertibles on one hand. By far the sexiest, most elegant, and most exciting is Maserati’s new GranCabrio Folgore. Did I mention it has 818 horsepower?
Yes, there’s a gas-powered GranTurismo—featuring a divine twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 packing 483 hp—that is seriously delightful to drive. But if you want real automotive fireworks coupled with zero emissions and some stealthy, silent running, this new Folgore (that’s Italian for lightning bolt) is a lightning bolt on wheels.
With its trio of electric motors and beefy 83-kWh battery pack, this drop-top four-seater can rocket from standstill to 60 mph in a quite insane 2.7 seconds. Range is just okay at 233 miles, but find yourself a fast charger and you can add 60 miles in just five minutes.
In true Maserati tradition, the GranCab’s cabin is a sea of beautifully stitched leather, though greenies can opt for the EcoNyl fabric created from recycled nylon. Potential buyers can expect to shell out at least $182,000. «

Though much of the recent Canadian chatter in South Florida centers on residents heading home, downtown Miami just welcomed a notable northern import. Enter Earls Kitchen + Bar, a family-run, household name across Canada known for its elevated, globally inspired comfort food and designforward spaces. Following a splashy debut on Fort Lauderdale’s Las Olas Boulevard, the brand has expanded to Miami Worldcenter, the $6 billion, 27-acre, mixed-use development that’s reshaping the city’s urban core with high-rise residences, luxury hotels, and a
wave of new dining concepts.
The all-day menu leans modern American with wide-ranging appeal: fire-torched sushi, charred corn and avocado dip, USDA Prime steaks, and towering seafood platters. But there’s also room for creativity—think: shrimp and scallop spaghettini in a garlicky basil almond pesto sauce, Wagyu beef oshi press with truffle soy glaze, and a tomahawk pork chop lacquered in maple glaze, finished on the grill, and served with dry-cured bacon jam.
Design and drinks are equally dialed-in. The sleek, eco-modern interiors—defined
by curved teal seating, warm wood accents, layered lighting, and lush greenery—radiate from a central island bar topped in stone and framed in sculptural oak. With 8,400 square feet inside and a 2,000-square-foot patio that seats 110, the space suits everything from intimate dinners to large group outings. An extensive wine list, excellent cocktails (try the Guava Margarita or Hugo Lemon Drop Martini), and a generous happy hour—afternoon and late-night—make Earls just as enticing for a spontaneous drink as a full-on meal. WITH MORE THAN 150 RUMS, A TRANSPORTIVE SETTING, AND ONE UNFORGETTABLE PIÑA COLADA, SWIZZLE IS WHERE SOUTH BEACH HIDES ITS BEST DRINKS
BY PAUL RUBIO DRINKS
So many bars nowadays strive for a speakeasy vibe but few deliver. Swizzle Rum Bar & Drinkery, tucked just off Collins Avenue in the heart of South Beach, is the real deal—an intimate, transportive space that channels the spirit of an eighteenth-century drinking den, where rum ruled and bootlegging thrived.
Now with a second outpost newly opened in downtown Fort Lauderdale, Swizzle is quietly expanding its rum-soaked reach. But the soul of the brand still resides in Miami, where the focus remains clear: rum, in all its layered, nuanced glory. Swizzle carries more
than 150 bottles sourced from around the globe, many of which appear in clever, precise combinations across a sprawling cocktail list that marries Prohibition swagger with modern technique.
Inside, it feels like a secret you’re hesitant to share. Dim lighting, rich woods, and low-slung banquettes set the scene, while owner Danilo Bozovic and his veteran team guide guests through a menu divided by category—Swizzle Classics, Exotic & Tropical, Fancy Drinks, Stirred & Stiff, Rare & Forgotten Spirits, and The Newcomers. Each section tells a story, and each drink feels like its own chapter.
The author of Barkeep: The Art of Mixology, Bar & Cocktails , Bozovic brings that storytelling sensibility to life at Swizzle. “A great bar is about more than just great drinks—it’s about creating memories, forging connections, and celebrating life’s moments, big and small,” he says.
Case in point: the Sip, Bite, Sip (Swizzle’s piña colada), a multisensory standout. It arrives in a chilled martini glass over a single ice block, made with Pa’lante Reposado Rum and Ten to One Caribbean Dark Rum, clarified with young coconut purée, fresh lime, and
black tea IPA cordial. Alongside sits a silky scoop of whipped house-made goat cheese cream—fluffy, tangy, and faintly tropical—garnished with Copalli white cocoa drops. The idea is simple: sip the cocktail, take a bite of the cream, then sip again. The result is layered and luxurious, a cocktail-as-dessert experience without the sugar crash.
From the Rare & Forgotten section, the Besame Mucho (San Zanj White Haitian Rum, mezcal, Benedictine, hibiscus water, and habanero tincture) is unforgettable. Fancy drink fans should try the Newburgh Sour—Scotch, teainfused amaro, lemon, and egg white served up with old-fashioned flair.
Despite the meticulous execution, prices remain refreshingly grounded: most cocktails range from $15 to $19. What’s more? Swizzle’s menu doesn’t stop at drinks. Elevated pub fare rounds out the experience. Think: chicken tenders dressed up with house-made buffalo and blue cheese sauces, and bistro-style steak frites for those settling in for the night.
Overall, Swizzle isn’t chasing a trend—it’s mastering a mood. With a purist’s take on rum, theatrical drinks, and a setting that whispers rather than shouts, it’s the kind of place that rewards those who know where to look. South Beach still has its secrets, and this one’s worth checking out. (swizzlerumbardrinkery.com)
TWO OF OUR FAVORITES FROM FORT LAUDERDALE’S RECENT RESTAURANT BOOM
BY PAUL RUBIO
There may only ever be one Joe’s Stone Crab, but Fort Lauderdale now has a bona fide offshoot. After 26 years as executive chef at the iconic Miami Beach institution, André Bienvenu has gone independent, opening Catch & Cut, a sleek seafood-and-steak destination on Las Olas Boulevard. As managing partner and executive chef, Bienvenu brings signature elements from Joe’s—old-school hospitality, pristine stone crabs (available in all sizes when in season), and a hearty menu of salads, starters, and decadent sides—but gives them a fresh, modern edge.
The raw bar and sushi program, led by chef Inyoman Atmaja, is a defining point of departure. Guests can order rolls made to spec or choose from wellexecuted signatures like spicy tuna crispy rice and salmon avocado. Appetizers are more contemporary
than classic: surf-and-turf meatballs, crispy wrapped shrimp, and a dip trio featuring crab pico, lobster hummus, and onion dip served with house chips. The meat program, meanwhile, sources top-tier cuts from Chicago’s Allen Brothers (hello: center-cut filet mignon and 20-ounce Prime bone-in rib eye), lending serious steak house credibility.
Interiors mirror Las Olas’ evolving aesthetic: sharp lines, layered textures, and distinct, design-forward spaces that span two floors. And while dinner service leans upscale, the weekday happy hour (Monday through Friday, 4–6 p.m.) is a local favorite. At the bar, $12 cocktails, wines by the glass from $9 to $18, and $12 shareable bites like oysters, shrimp cocktail, and Northeast-style calamari draw a polished afterwork crowd. (catchandcut.com)
Greece is the word—and the aesthetic—at Mykonos, one of Downtown Fort Lauderdale’s newest arrivals. Overlooking the New River, the breezy space balances South Florida ease with the spirit of the Greek Isles. Whitewashed wood, sisal rope accents, flowing linen drapes, and softly glowing table lamps set the stage for a casual, coastal atmosphere.
The menu dips into Greek flavors with plenty of pan-Mediterranean detours. Starters include a peach stracciatella salad with roasted pistachios, fresh mint and basil, and a light peach vinaigrette; truffle tuna tartare served with crispy lavash; and beef carpaccio topped with Dijon aioli, pomegranate seeds, and capers. More traditional fare includes house-made tzatziki and hummus, fried calamari with walnut tartar sauce, grilled branzino, and spiced lamb lollipops.
Desserts skew more playful—most notably The Heavenly
Date, a layered mix of dates, peanut butter, roasted hazelnuts, and caramel sauce that tastes like an elevated Snickers bar. Cocktails carry a similar theme: approachable with just enough Greek flair. The Pistachio Reserve stands out, blending Tincup Rye, pistachio honey, black walnut, and Angostura bitters. Others lean citrusy or herbal, reinforcing the Mediterranean vibe without going over-the-top. (mykonosfl.com)
TRAVEL BY TASTE BUD TO PORTUGAL (AND GO BEYOND PORT)
BY SARAH PHILLIPS MCCARTAN
If you’re planning a trip to Europe this summer, there’s a good chance that Portugal’s on your list. A record-breaking 2.3 million Americans traveled this pretty Iberian country last year—and for good reasons. The secluded coves of the Algarve coast, the tiled streets of Lisbon, and the storybook castles and palaces in towns like Sintra are each a major draw.
Even better (in my opinion) is Portugal’s diverse, delicious, and yet somewhat underrated wine scene. Port may be the headline act, but it’s really just the beginning.
Vinho Verde, a category of mostly white wines
from the northern part of the country, have seen a major quality shift in recent years. The best examples are typically made entirely from the Alvarinho grape and are concentrated, refreshing, and saline—ideal for pairing with lunch in the sunshine. Dão Branco, from a little farther south, is quite different; it’s savory, textural, and delicious. In southern Portugal, Alentejo makes some of my favorite crowd-pleasing reds: often vibrantly juicy, fruity, and generally well-priced. Barraida, on the Atlantic coast, is home to some serious, structured, and perfumed reds that benefit from time aging in the cellar. If you’re a fan of Italy’s Barolo, try Bairrada. Look for wines by Luis Pato or Vadio. And, of course, there’s the famous Douro Valley. Its dramatic, terraced vineyards slope down to the Douro River and produce grapes for both Port and some exciting dry wines. I recently tasted a range of wines by the iconic Douro producer Casa Ferreirinha, to include wines with bags of structure and concentrated fruit across many price points.
For those staying closer to home, the Old Lisbon restaurants offer a taste of Portugal here in Miami—now with locations in Aventura, Coral Way, and South Miami. Curated by Portugese sommelier Ricardo Gonçalves, the restaurants’ wine lists boast the most extensive selection of Portugese wine in the city. Maybe they will inspire you to book a trip. « Considering its swampy weather, New Orleans might seem like an unlikely setting for a summertime global drinks gathering. However, Tales of the Cocktail deliberately lands during the city’s slower months, a strategic choice to support its vital hospitality industry. This commitment to community underpins the festival’s purpose, especially relevant to this year’s theme: “Evolve.”
“To evolve is not just a theme—it’s a call to action … as we grow, learn, and shape the future of hospitality together,” notes Charlotte Voisey, the event and supporting foundation’s executive director. Tales of the Cocktail pro-

vides the perfect environment for this growth, offering a range of educational programs, from mastering classic techniques to exploring the future of the industry.
Let’s toast this spirit of evolution with The Catalyst. This seemingly traditional cocktail playfully embraces change, starting with the comforting familiarity of a fine aged rum, Campari, and sweet vermouth, then introducing a touch of the unexpected with a homemade pineapple tepache. The finishing touch? A dehydrated blood orange garnish that subtly evolves as you enjoy the drink. (talesofthecocktail.org)
The Catalyst
Ingredients
1 oz. Stiggins’ Fancy
Pineapple Rum
1 oz. Campari
1 oz. sweet vermouth
3/4 oz. pineapple tepache (recipe below)
2 dashes orange bitters
1 dehydrated blood orange round for garnish
« Combine all ingredients in a stirring vessel with ice. Stir and strain into a fresh glass. Garnish with the dehydrated blood orange round.
Pineapple Tepache
Ingredients
8 oz. brown sugar
12 oz. distilled water
1 whole pineapple
1 cinnamon stick
5 whole cloves
the brown sugar in water. Cut the rinds off the pineapple and set aside. Juice the remaining fruit. Combine the sugar syrup, pineapple juice, pineapple rinds, cinnamon stick, and cloves together in a large vessel. Cover with a cheesecloth and allow to ferment in a cool, dark spot for 2 to 3 days at room temperature. Strain the mixture and, using a muddler, press the pineapple rinds to release as much liquid as possible. Add the liquid back into the mix, chill, and enjoy.

When a Chicago couple with two young children decided Miami would be the ideal spot for a vacation home, their search led them to the city’s Belle Meade neighborhood. The property they found had good bones, tranquil views of canal waters, and 5,000 square feet of space for the family and their visiting guests to spread out in. The house, however, was seriously devoid of any personality.
“When I walked in, what I noticed were all the white, shiny porcelain floors and a gray, ultramodern mood,” says Rafaela Simoes, principal of 2id Interiors, whom the homeowners called on to spearhead a renovation. “The
clients wanted the opposite of that: a happy, warm, and colorful home.”
Together with her partner, Laila Colvin, Simoes set out to fulfill those wishes. Simoes and Colvin opted for different tones of orange on dining chairs, throw pillows, light fixtures, playful patio furnishings, and all over the powder room, which offers a textural version of the citrus shade. There’s also plenty of sage green, most noticeably in the lower cabinetry of the open kitchen, as well as on rugs, artworks, and special accents throughout the residence.
“The orange and sage palette worked very well together,” says Colvin. “It gave us the contrast we wanted against the walls and neutral pieces of furniture. Color made the space come alive.”
The designers note that, since the house has been completed, the family has been finding ways to spend more and more time in Miami. So much so that the firm has already been
tapped to convert a portion of the garage into a home office so the owners can work remotely and extend their stays.
“Nothing in this place was meant to be formal,” says Colvin. “It’s a summer home where everyone feels casual, relaxed, and happy.” (2idinteriors.com) —Kelley Marcellus

We’re often wowed by beautiful decor and luxurious amenities when we travel. Why not bring some of those resort-inspired details home to live the “suite life” every day? SCENT DECOR IS SOMETHING THAT MANY HOTELS RELY ON—AND SOME EVEN HAVE SIGNATURE SCENTS IN THE FORM OF SPRAYS, DIFFUSERS, OR CANDLES. IF YOU’RE TRANSPORTED TO TRANQUILITY BY A SOOTHING SCENT WAFTING THROUGHOUT YOUR HOME, THE WORLD (AND ALL OF ITS AROMAS) ARE AT YOUR FINGERTIPS. PICK A FAR-FLUNG SCENT OR SOMETHING THAT CELEBRATES THE MAGIC CITY FROM BRANDS LIKE HOTEL LOBBY CANDLE OR THE RITZ-CARLTON’S BRAND OF BESPOKE CANDLES.
There’s something about sheer drapery in a bedroom that brings those luxe vacay vibes, offering an instant upgrade to any space. Even if your window isn’t as big as you’d like, you can create the illusion of a larger opening with a wall of sheers. Pair them with a blackout roller shade or an additional layer of blackout drapery to ensure a good night’s sleep.
Upgrade your bathroom to a spa-like space with fluffy towels, elegant bath mats, and plush robes. Utilize small canisters, a tray, or a basket to house (and hide) toiletries on the counter. To bring in another layer of luxury, consider a freestanding towel warmer. Finally, adding a smart toilet or bidet is another way to elevate any bathroom.
LUXE LAYERS
Wrap yourself in luxury with layered linens. Invest in a set of high-thread-count cotton sheets (400 to 800 thread count range) in crisp white or a soft neutral tone. Expertly layering the bedding will complete the look. This would include a fitted sheet, flat sheet, coverlet, or quilt, topped with a fluffy duvet insert or comforter folded at the foot of the bed. If you truly want to bring that hotel feel home, some fine resorts sell their mattresses, pillows, and linens on their website.

My full name is… David Whitaker. I live in… Miami. I grew up in… Georgia. When I was a kid, I wanted to be… a professional basketball player. My first paycheck was… from a job at a gas station. I started my carer as… a Xerox sales person. I came to Miami… not long after college. I first became interested in working in the travel industry... soon after I moved here. You can’t be in Miami too long and not understand the importance of the travel industry. It’s everywhere. I began working with the travel industry in Miami when… I was given an opportunity by Merrett Stierheim, who was the CEO of the bureau at the time. Taking the helm at the Greater Miami Convention Center & Visitors Bureau (GMCVB) has been… an honor and a blessing. Some upcoming projects I’m excited about are… the 2025 groundbreaking of the Grand
Hyatt Miami Beach that will be connected to the Miami Beach Convention Center (slated to open in late 2027). The best thing about working in this industry is… the people. What makes Miami so special is… Miamians! A common misconception about my job is… that Miami sells itself. My biggest challenge has been… managing success is always more challenging than building from adversity. My greatest success has been… the team we have created at the GMCVB. One thing I’d like to change about myself is… more patience. One question I get asked a lot is… “Why did you return to Miami?” The answer is obvious. People would be surprised to know that… I’m a good cook. My biggest fear is… letting my colleagues down. I collect… Curious George books. One game you can’t beat me at is… backgammon. If I wasn’t
helming the GMCVB, I’d probably be a… basketball coach. If you’re going to pour me a drink, make it… bourbon. If you’re coming to my house for dinner, I will probably… ask my wife to cook for you. She’s an even better cook than I am. When I’m not working, you’ll find me… taking care of my puppy. The prettiest place in Miami is… Miami Beach at sunrise. My favorite spot in Miami is… the fourth turn at Gulfstream Park. My last outof-town escape was… Barcelona. My secret junk food obsession is… dark chocolate (don’t forget the bourbon). When I want to relax, I… listen to music. If I could give my younger self advice, it would be... “don’t worry so much.” If I were to write a memoir, the title would be… Don’t Worry So Much I probably shouldn’t tell you this, but… I worry too much.
