ALL THE BEST

There’s no better way to cap off the final full month of summer in the 305 than to launch Aventura’s second annual Best Of issue—a project that we couldn’t have made happen without our legion of loyal readers. I am grateful to each and every one of you who took the time to nominate your favorite people and places, and then returned to our online portal for the voting round to select this year’s winners and finalists in more than 130 exciting categories. You gave us your take on what puts the magic in the Magic City across seven subject areas, and we tallied your votes for the best of dining, drinks, stays and plays, shopping, health and beauty, services, and sports and media.

Now, for the second year running, we proudly present our 32-page roundup (beginning on page 50) that highlights nearly 400 businesses, places, people, activities, and beyond. From restaurants to real estate agents, this year’s honorees truly showcase the best of everything in Miami-Dade. I hope this month’s issue will leave you feeling hometown proud—and give you a new list of spots to visit and people to know around town.

ADDING SOME SPICE

This month and next, hundreds of restaurants across the city will participate in Miami Spice, offering three-course, prix fixe menus certain to tempt every taste bud. I’ll be hitting South Beach to dine at newcomer Aviv for sure, but don’t miss Paul Rubio’s suggestions for other great Spice suppers to try. (Page 84)

As you leaf through this year’s winners, take a moment to follow us on Instagram (@aventuramagazine) and subscribe to our Insider’s Guide enewsletter at aventuramagazine.com so you can stay up-to-date on the absolute best of everything that Miami-Dade has to offer.

Expert Advice from a Facial Plastic Surgeon

EYE-OPENING INFO ON BROW LIFTS

A brow lift can be one of the most rejuvenating procedures for the upper face—beneficial for both women and men. While the term brow lift may sound intimidating, especially given some of the overdone results seen in celebrities and public figures, the truth is quite the opposite. When performed correctly, a brow lift can yield beautiful, natural-looking outcomes. Patients often appear younger, more refreshed, and even friendlier.

Here are some key points to understand when considering a brow lift:

WHAT A BROW LIFT SHOULD DO

• Restore Natural Position and Shape:

As we age, the brows tend to descend and lose their youthful height and shape—especially the outer portion. A brow lift helps restore the natural contours and elevation of the brow.

• Enhance the Brow Aesthetic:

Some individuals naturally have lower, flatter brows—and this can suit their facial structure beautifully. Others may benefit aesthetically from a more lifted or arched brow. In these cases, we can modify the shape and position for a more attractive appearance.

SMALL CHANGES, BIG IMPACT

Even a few millimeters of lift can make a significant aesthetic difference in the brows. The goal isn’t to raise the brows as much as possible—it’s to position them in the most flattering way for the individual, maintaining natural shape and expression.

AN IMPORTANT COMPANION TO EYELID SURGERY

Often, what appears to be excess upper eyelid skin is actually due in part to brow descent. If this isn’t recognized, a surgeon may remove too much eyelid skin—sometimes even brow skin—which can lead to complications. A brow lift can be essential to achieving optimal and safe results.

BROW LIFTS IN MEN

Men also benefit from brow lifts. While a lower, flatter brow is typically more masculine, excessive descent can create a heavy or hooded look. A conservative lift can restore a more alert, approachable appearance without feminizing the face.

THE HIDDEN STRAIN: EYEBROW COMPENSATORS

Some individuals appear to have normal brow positioning at first glance. However, closer examination reveals they’re using their forehead muscles to constantly lift the brow. These “compensators” often develop horizontal creases above the brows, which cannot be treated with Botox without worsening brow droop. They may also experience fatigue or tension headaches from this constant muscle engagement. In these cases, the height of the brow may even look the same after surgery, however without the excessive strain and tension.

SURGICAL OPTIONS

There are several options, which depend on individual anatomy and the surgeon’s expertise / preference. The endoscopic approach is currently the most popular as it lifts through several small incisions that are hidden inside the hairline. Other options include using the same incision as that of the eyelid surgery, making one over the brow itself, or creating one along the entire hairline. AUGUST ISSUE

THE INSIDE TRACK TO ALL THINGS NEW AND NOW IN MIAMI-DADE

DOG DAYS OF SUMMER

Summer in Miami means sunshine and pool days—and possibly the perfect time to add a four-legged friend to the family.

Among the dozens of shelters doing good deeds throughout South Florida, Abandoned Pet Rescue (APR) has adoptable pets aplenty that are ready to trade kennel life for belly rubs, morning walks, and a soft spot on your sofa. A nokill shelter founded in 1996, APR is one of the largest in South Florida, caring for more than 200 animals.

For some, there’s an unspoken stigma to shelter animals. But the truth is that many are surrendered due to life changes, not because of bad behavior or poor health.

“We receive 30 calls, emails, or walk-ins a day from people looking to surrender or report found pets,” says shelter manager Kara Starzyk. “These are loving, healthy animals, many of whom were once family pets.”

Continued on page 16

DOG DAYS OF SUMMER

(continued from page 15)

Take Peter Pan, for example. He’s a 50-pound, 6-year-old Chesapeake Bay retriever/terrier mix who has been housed at APR since 2022. He’s house-trained and full of personality—exactly the kind of underdog worth rooting for.

APR’s team works closely with potential adopters to make thoughtful matches based on energy level, lifestyle, and long-term compatibility. “We really focus on matchmaking to ensure it’s the right fit for everyone,” Starzyk says. (abandonedpetrescue.org) —Jesse Scott

SUMMER PET SAFETY

Follow these tips from the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) to keep your pooch cool during Miami’s seriously sultry summers. (aspca.org) —J.S.

• Reschedule daytime walks. Aim for cooler early morning or late evening strolls.

• Never leave your dog in a parked car. Even a few minutes can be deadly.

• Keep the water flowing. Offer clean, fresh water frequently.

• Know the signs of heatstroke. Excessive or prolonged panting, drooling, and weakness can mean it’s time to call the vet.

ATTRACTIONS

POOL Paradise

Following a renovation, Coral Gables’ Venetian Pool promises to make a splashy return later this summer. Built in 1923 from a coral rock quarry, the Mediterranean-style pool features cascading waterfalls, shaded grottos, and nearly 820,000 gallons of fresh spring water that self-replenishes from an underground aquifer. The pool’s extensive restoration will keep the fun flowing for another hundred years—including modern pumps, new piping, and updated infrastructure. In addition, a new eco-friendly surface will line the pool’s interior, helping reduce water waste and boosting sustainability. But traditionalists, don’t fret: the pool’s storied charm (it’s one of the few swimming holes to earn a spot on the National Register of Historic Places) will remain untouched—from its signature bridges to its bougainvillea-draped walls. BLACK BUSINESS LOVE

CELEBRATE NATIONAL BLACK BUSINESS MONTH WITH FOUR OF OUR FAVORITE MAGIC CITY-BASED BLACK-OWNED BRANDS

Bold

BREWS

Miami sisters Jasmine and Danielle Neveles are brewing more than just coffee; they’re fueling a caffeinated movement. As the founders of Uncharted Coffee Supply, the duo is redefining what it means to sip sustainably. Their latest cold brew creations, Wander and Revive, debuted this summer and push the boundaries of what ready-todrink coffee can be: clean, ethical, and rooted in regenerative farming. We caught up with the powerhouse pair to talk growth, Oprah, and what’s next. (drinkuncharted.com)

Aventura: How have you seen your business grow in recent years?

Danielle: Since launching in 2023, Uncharted Coffee Supply has evolved from a grassroots idea into a nationally recognized regenerative coffee brand. We’ve been honored as one of Oprah’s Favorite Things and have gained the trust of discerning consumers seeking sustainable, high-quality coffee. Our growth is rooted in direct partnerships with womenowned farms and regenerative co-ops around the world. We’ve expanded our offerings to include pioneering ready-to-drink products like Wander and Revive. Today, our coffees are available on Amazon, Faire, and Bubble Goods, and we’re preparing for broader retail and hospitality partnerships in 2025. How did your coffee being selected for Oprah’s Favorite Things impact your business?

Danielle: It was a transformative moment. It validated everything we’ve worked so hard to build: a commitment to quality, sustainability, and innovation. The recognition introduced Uncharted to a national audience overnight... expanding our reach and helping us connect with customers who care deeply about where their coffee comes from and the people behind it. It affirmed that a small women- and minority-owned business can

lead the way in creating a more regenerative and equitable future for coffee.

Being a Miami-bred brand, how does the Magic City shine through your offerings?

Jasmine: The essence of the Magic City—its rhythm, resilience, and Latin American influences—has deeply inspired our brand. Our direct relationships with smallholder producers across [South and Central America] reflect that.

Beyond your newly unveiled ready-to-drink products, what’s next for Uncharted?

Jasmine: We’re exploring new product formats that meet our customers where they are— whether that’s on-the-go, at home, or in their favorite café—while staying true to our roots of ethical sourcing and bold, nuanced flavor. In the coming year, we’re excited to grow our retail footprint, launch limited-edition seasonal releases, and introduce new partnerships that spotlight women producers and regenerative farming. For us, the future isn’t just about scaling, it’s about doing so with integrity, intention, and a continued commitment to honoring the people and places behind every cup.

KNIT-WIT WEAR

Krelwear by Karelle Levy

Karelle Levy’s passion and talent for knitting by hand won her admission to the Rhode Island School of Design for textile art, where she discovered the knitting machine. Soon, Krelwear by Karelle Levy was born. Now Levy produces chic designs for men and women on her large-scale loom, offering zero-waste garments like caftans, shorts, rompers, and dresses. Most of her materials are plant-based—made using raw materials like cotton or bamboo—and each item is hand-finished. You can find her clothes at Superblue Miami’s concept shop, Glimpse boutique in Miami Beach, and the Krelwear flagship store and studio in Ironside. (karellelevy.com)

Made in the heart of Allapattah, Susan Aran’s line of canned kombucha has become a cult favorite among wellness junkies. Radiate Kombuma comes in eight flavors and one rotating seasonal special; it’s sold locally at Maman, Whole Foods, Pura Vida, and Naked Farmer, among other stores and cafés. The summer seasonal special is Mango Mami, and next up for the fall is Fungi Chai (with medicinal doses of mushrooms and boasting a partnership with Karla and Dylan Dascal’s Paradise Farm). Check out the QR code on each can, which leads you to insight about the local farms and more. Aran’s flavor pick? She loves Naked, which she says drinks “like a dry cider or a sake, with strong tannins and oolong.” (radiate.online)

From the hive to your home, Honi Lifestyle hand-delivers mason jars of raw, handpoured goodness that’s produced by local bees from the Redlands. The brand offers a hefty selection of seasonal specialties like lychee honey, but the wildflower honey and echinacea-infused EchiHoney became bestsellers for a reason. Bee pollen fans and garlic lovers also take note: the honey fermented with garlic is like nothing that’s ever hit your palate. (honilifestyle.com)

SCIENTIFIC SKIN CARE

M2Skin

Michael Bellio and Michael Mendez have joined forces to create Miami-made skin care products that boast the bounty of biology. Loaded with regenerative botanicals, each item in their line features active ingredients like orchid stem cells, alpine rose, and medicinal herbs such as white horehound. The assortment—including a scrub, serum, wash, and more—is small but mighty, with anti-aging, anti-wrinkle, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory properties. (m2skin.com)

In 2000, local style icon and social guru Luis Morais started designing jewelry for himself. Once his friends got wind of his work, those closest to him immediately started placing orders—and the rest is history. Fast-forward 25 years, and Morais (who designs in his Lincoln Road studio and produces in Downtown Miami) has opened the doors to his first-ever brick-andmortar shop in the heart of Sunset Harbour. Within the confines of his display cases lie his signature beaded bracelets and works of wearable art in white, rose, and yellow gold. He counts celebrities such as Madonna, Jay-Z, Beyoncé, Ozzy Osbourne, Joe Jonas, Bruce Weber, Zayn Malik, and Ricky Martin among his friends and clientele. (luismorais.com)

DRIVEN DUO

BROTHERS BRIAN AND ALEX SHACK TAKE THE WHEEL OF BRAMAN

AUTOMOTIVE, THE POWERHOUSE COMPANY THEIR GRANDFATHER

BUILT 50 YEARS AGO

“My parents said my first word was ‘car,’” Alex Shack admits.

Alex isn’t sure if that’s fact or family lore. But there’s no doubt it was a fitting initial utterance. That’s because the 39-year-old grandson of Braman Automotive’s founder is now a partner in the South Florida institution. Joining him in the corporate office is his 37-year-old brother and co-partner, Brian Shack.

As Braman Automotive celebrates its fiftieth anniversary, the Shack brothers say they’re focused on continuing and strengthening the legacy of their grandfather, Norman Braman, who in 1975 opened a single Cadillac dealership on Biscayne Boulevard. Today, there are more than 20 Braman dealerships spanning Miami-Dade and Palm Beach counties.

“There aren’t a lot of family-owned auto dealers of this size,” says Alex, who assumed the role of chief operating officer in 2018. “We’re large, but we’re really tied to the community. There’s a lot of pride in it.”

“Many of our customers today are grandkids or kids of previous customers,” says Brian, general counsel since 2019. “We serve generations and the community.”

And doing so as a family enriches the experience.

“When your grandfather’s name is on the side of a building, it colors every decision you make,” says Brian. “It’s incredibly important to continue to build on his reputation and position in the community. It’s why I’m here, and it’s incredibly rewarding.”

Alex and Brian found their way to their current jobs via slightly different routes, but each had a similar starting point: at the bottom.

“ IT’S INCREDIBLY IMPORTANT TO CONTINUE TO BUILD ON [MY GRANDFATHER’S] REPUTATION AND POSITION IN THE COMMUNITY. IT’S WHY I’M HERE.”
—BRIAN SHACK
Brian and Alex Shack

Brian recalls teenage summers in the enormous parts warehouse, taking belts, filters, and brake components down, dusting each shelf, and then replacing each item. “You had to go aisle by aisle, and when you were done the dust had already accumulated where you’d started,” he says with a laugh.

Alex remembers sweeping floors at age 13, cleaning those parts bins, and eventually graduating to data entry. “Wherever it was a safe place to not break anything,” he says.

That’s not to say there weren’t advantages to growing up Braman. Both brothers graduated from the exclusive Ransom Everglades School in Coconut Grove. But their grandfather—with his blue-collar roots—ensured there was no fast lane to the C-suite.

For Alex, who always wanted a career at Braman, that meant 12 years holding almost “every position available inside of a car dealership.” While he always liked cars, what he really liked was the business itself—the scale, the complexity, the extroverted people it attracted to the sales team. After graduating from the University of Florida in 2008, he sold cars and worked as a service advisor, working his way up to general manager, including at a Kia dealership, which he opened.

“I saw firsthand the work, time, and energy that goes into selling that first car,” says Alex. He notes that while being stuck in a tough role was hard, it gave him a real appreciation for the individuals who do it every day. “And Norman knew that if I really wanted to do this as a career, there was no other real way to understand it.”

Brian, who attended Duke University and Georgetown University Law Center, never expected to join the family business. He spent six years in public service in Miami, first as a law clerk and then as an assistant U.S. attorney. But over lunches with his cousin, David Leibowitz, who spent 12 years on the Braman legal team, he reconsidered. “He always talked about how great the job was,” Brian says. Leibowitz is currently a U.S. district judge in Miami.

The brothers say the enterprise has avoided the pitfalls of many family businesses in part because there aren’t that many family members to complicate matters. They have one sister, and their aunt has one child.

“ HE TOLD ME THAT EVERYONE WHO MAKES DECISIONS IS GOING TO BE WRONG SOMETIMES, IT TOOK THE WEIGHT OFF OF NOT BEING AFRAID TO MAKE DECISIONS.”
—ALEX SHACK

Currently, only Alex and Brian work alongside their grandfather. “It’s easier when you’re a family like us that’s very close and very small,” says Brian. “We have a great situation.”

That great situation is enhanced by the chance to work alongside their grandfather, whose reach extends well beyond the auto business. The former owner of the Philadelphia Eagles, Braman is a major philanthropist, giving to the arts, Jewish causes, education, cancer research, and more.

“One of the main reasons I joined [was] the opportunity to spend more time with him,” says Brian.

Among the many lessons gleaned from their grandfather—about hard work, safe-

guarding the business’ reputation, looking ahead, and treating people well—was that there would be occasional mistakes. “He told me that everyone who makes decisions is going to be wrong sometimes,” says Alex. “It took the weight off of not being afraid to make decisions.”

Norman Braman also influenced their own style as fathers.

Alex and Brian each has two daughters, and all four girls are under age 6. “He always was very present with us and involved with us,” says Alex, noting that their incredibly busy grandfather would remember which classes they were taking, always asking about them.

“He was very focused. I felt very lucky.”

And the brothers feel lucky to be working as a team.

“It’s the best part of this job,” says Brian. “We’re very aligned in terms of how we see the future and how we plan to grow and adapt.”

“There are levels of trust you have with the people you work with,” continues Alex, “and there is no one I trust more than him.”

No need to purchase an expensive curling iron. According to numerous TikTok infl uencers, everything you need to create perfect curls overnight has been in your sock drawer this entire time. To try the viral sock curls trend yourself, grab a pair of medium to long tube socks (thicker socks will yield larger, bouncier curls, while thinner socks will result in more defi ned curls). Start with clean, dry hair and divide it into even sections. Clip or hold the sock in place, then wrap hair around it, curling away from your face. Fold the sock over the hair and tuck the end to secure. Repeat, sleep, then unravel in the morning for effortless curls.

MOUTH TAPING

Here’s some disturbing pillow talk: compressing your face into a flat pillow creates permanent sleep lines that can rapidly age your skin. It also keeps hair residue and oil away from your skin, with the goal of preventing acne and other skin irritations. (flawlessfacepillow.com)

Mouth taping has been around for years, but it has recently gained popularity thanks to online influencers. It involves putting medical-grade adhesive tape over your lips at night to force nasal breathing. While there is little conclusive medical research on the topic, some purported benefits of solely breathing through the nose include improved respiratory function, enhanced oxygen absorption, and the filtering of potential allergens before they reach the lungs. (Note that it is important to seek approval from your doctor before trying mouth taping. It is not recommended for people with severe heart or lung problems, those with a BMI greater than 35, or anyone suffering from an ear or sinus infection.) Dream Mouth Tape Strips ($34 for one month of strips) are vertical adhesive strips made of bamboo silk for both comfort and the material’s antibacterial and antimicrobial properties. Earliest memory of designing?

My earliest memory of designing goes back to making clothes for my Barbies. I’d spend hours creating tiny outfits. I only wish I had saved them to see how they compare to my work now.

How did you launch your namesake brand?

I launched my brand nearly 20 years ago from my tiny New York City apartment—young, scrappy, and fueled by the belief that fashion should be both expressive and approachable. It was a humble beginning but one filled with energy, creativity, and a clear vision for what I wanted to build.

Where do you find inspiration?

Travel has always been a powerful source of inspiration for me. Immersing myself in a new environment—seeing the world through a fresh lens—never fails to spark creativity. I’m also deeply inspired by interiors and art; the color palettes, textures, and mood of a beautifully designed room or a striking painting often find their way into my collections in the most unexpected and meaningful ways.

Every print is crafted with intention and designed to tell a story—whether it’s a subtle nod to vintage textiles or a visual memory from a recent journey. Our goal is always to evoke a feeling or spark a sense of nostalgia through the prints we create.

Dream collaboration?

I’m a total sneaker girl, so my dream collaboration would definitely be with Adidas. I love the idea of blending my aesthetic with their iconic styles.

I have an upcoming trip to Italy with my husband that I’m really looking forward to—there’s nothing like the inspiration that comes from being surrounded by beauty, culture, and amazing food. TRANSFORMATION AWAITS AT COMO UMA UBUD AND COMO SHAMBHALA ESTATE WANDERLUST

THE HEALING HEART OF BALI

There’s something magical about Bali. As many of the free spirits who move there can attest, wellness comes naturally in this Indonesian province, evidenced by its profusion of plant-based cuisine, abundance of biophilic design, and deep harmony with the natural world.

The beauty of the Island of the Gods is epitomized in the misty rice paddies, dense jungles, and healing rhythms of Ubud, the undisputed heart of Bali. It can also be found in Ubud’s resorts, including the luxurious Como Uma Ubud, perched on the fringes of town between a mountain and the river

Oos, and the nearby Como Shambhala Estate, where wellness is a full-body journey. Ubud derives its name from a Balinese word meaning “medicine.” To be sure, a wealth of unique medicinal plants grows wild in the area’s tropical rainforests—but the air itself seems to carry something healing. A

Como Uma Ubud’s pool exudes tranquil Balinese vibes.

song becomes your sound machine and the distinct aroma of canang sari—handcrafted offerings of flowers, food, incense, and more placed daily by Balinese Hindus as a form of gratitude and devotion—fills your room. It’s exactly what Japanese interior architect Koichiro Ikebuchi intended.

town long brimming with painters and artisans, Ubud mixes tradition, arts, culture, nature, and spiritualism (Bali’s Hindu heritage is atypical in majority-Muslim Indonesia).

Even if you don’t come to Ubud for its medicinal properties, you can’t escape their power. Forget how many sauna-and-ice sessions you endure each week or how clean you eat every day—you don’t realize how much needs to be healed until you compare the person you are upon departure to the person you were at check-in.

Como Uma Ubud boasts 46 rooms, suites, and villas. Find serenity in a King Terrace Room, a sunny option perched above the Tjampuhan Valley and overlooking the gardens. Fling open the French doors, and bird-

With surroundings like these, slowing down, tuning in, and quieting all that mental chatter takes zero effort. Still, wellness programming is integral to the overall guest experience at a Como hotel. Mornings begin with yoga in the open-air pavilion, a breezy second-story space nestled amid verdant flora, fauna, and fronds. Chase it with a green juice and breakfast at Kemiri, which is admittedly hard to locate given how seamlessly it’s embedded into the elements; look for a terrace surrounded by a waterfall-fed koi pond and topped by an airy alang-alang ceiling.

Menus across the resort are rooted in Como’s signature Shambhala Cuisine—clean, nourishing dishes designed to maximize energy via raw, organic foods rich in living enzymes, vitamins, sea minerals, and more.

In addition to Kemiri, there’s Uma Cucina, a lunch and dinner restaurant with Italian influences. Conceived by architect Cheong Yew Kuan and interior designer Maximilian Jencquel, the street-side terrace is a lively spot to feast on locally sourced seasonal produce, seafood, and slow-cooked meats that combine the gourmet heritage of Balinese and

Italian cuisines, the spices of India and Indonesia, and Western techniques.

In further proof that happiness stems from simple pleasures, the equipmentfree, unplugged, noncutting-edge daily morning walk through the local rice paddies may prove to be a highlight of your stay. Led by a local guide, you’ll spend an hour wandering past shrines and coconut palms, waving to gardeners and farmers tending their plots, and learning the vital role these emerald fields play in Balinese culture. Continue your adventures off-property by exploring Keliki Village, embarking upon a market tour, or taking a class in the traditional Indonesian martial arts of Pencak Silat.

the dawn of time. Order from poolside Uma Bar to refresh; in addition to fine wines and cocktails, there’s a selection of teas, juices, and mixologist-crafted mocktails that rival the real thing.

Estate is meant for guests seeking to deepen their health. Wellness programs here are personalized, falling into one of five holistic paths. The journey begins with a body composition analysis via Inbody scan and a meeting with the resident Chinese medicine or Ayurvedic consultant to craft an itinerary, which may include everything from acupuncture to yoga, Pilates, and hydrotherapy. The mineralized vitality pool, fed by a natural spring, hosts water-based therapies.

Back at Como Uma Ubud, cool off in the 75-foot pool, a space so elegantly executed by Bali-based Trevor Hillier that it blends into the landscape like it’s been there since

Twenty minutes away lies Como Shambhala Estate, which recently debuted renovated accommodations and reopened its Ojas wellness center. Designed by Kuan to marry the environment, indigenous styles of building, and both Asian and European aesthetics—with artful interiors by Ikebuchi—the estate immerses guests in the elements without sacrificing creature comforts. It is set on a 23-acre hillside above the Ayung River, with five themed residences tucked into jungle clearings, each with four or five suites as well as airy living areas and a large pool.

More retreat than hotel, Como Shambhala

Cultural rituals are on the menu as well. For a soulful pause, the Water Spring Blessing invites guests to don traditional Balinese attire while being guided through chanting, offerings, and a cleanse by a Balinese priest at an ancient holy-water spring in the estate’s gardens. Similarly, guests can venture farther away for a water purification ceremony at the tenth-century Tirta Empul Temple. Or, stay on-property and picnic and swim at Kedara, the estate’s hidden water garden.

Dining at Como Shambhala Estate is as healing as its treatments, with the hotel supplying fruits, veggies, and herbs from its kitchen garden. At contemporary Glow, expect nutrition-packed salads, juices, and fish and meat dishes brimming with colorful produce. Head to Kudus House for a heartier taste of the homeland. Housed in a 150-year-old former Javanese residence, the intricately carved wood interiors are as stunning as the authentic Indonesian fare.

No matter where you stay, it’s impossible to depart unchanged by Ubud’s restorative energy. Here, body and soul get the nourishment they crave and wellness is the norm, not the exception. (comohotels.com) «

OLD SOUL, NEW STAY

GARDINER HOUSE BRINGS FRESH ELEGANCE AND TRUE LOCAL SPIRIT TO NEWPORT

Rhode Island has a monopoly on summer. From the Vanderbilts of the Gilded Age to modern-day celebrities like Jay Leno and Judge Judy, well-to-do Americans have long flocked to their Newport “cottages” when temperatures rise, trading haunting humidity and city life for ocean breezes and languid days. It’s only fitting that Gardiner House, a new boutique hotel overlooking Newport Harbor, has a history steeped in high society.

The hotel is owned by Newporters Wirt Blaffer and Howard Cushing, the greatgrandson of American artist Howard Gardiner Cushing. Named in his honor, Gardiner House draws deeply from Gardiner Cushing’s life, art, and nearby home, The Ledges, built in 1867. The best example of this is the custom wallpaper by Twenty2 Wallpaper that hugs

the central staircase and is a reinterpretation of a circa-1905 mural by Gardiner Cushing. This whimsical wallpaper establishes a watercolor-esque palette of refined blues, greens, coral, and lilac that continues across the hotel’s 21 rooms and suites. Guests unlock their sanctuaries using a real key (an enchanting ode to Newport visitors from generations past) and are greeted by furnishings that exude quiet luxury. Think: rattan

accents, inviting chairs with gentle curves, Matouk linens, and playful prints across pillows and the like. The same vibe permeates the Sun Room, which flirts with modernity but leans decidedly Gilded Age. Relax here with a good book and a cup of tea, and it’s easy to imagine the year is 1895.

Since opening in late 2023, Gardiner House has woven itself into the fabric of Newport, a tight-knit community of 25,000 residents that

Newport’s Gardiner House embraces its harborside location, with water views available across the property, including in the Sun Room (far left).
The two-story wallpaper that wraps the hotel’s central staircase is a reimagination of an original mural by the hotel’s namesake, artist Howard Gardiner Cushing.
MICHAEL P. H. CLIFFORD

welcomes some 4 million visitors annually. While its charming interiors—designed by New York–based Space Exploration and rich in references to Old Newport—have garnered national attention, Blaffer and Cushing’s overall goal was to create a destination very much of, by, and for Newport.

They started with the location. Nestled just off the city’s oldest street, Gardiner House sits on Lees Wharf at the former site of the William & Manchester Shipyard; it’s a short walk from all the activity of downtown Newport and a quick drive to the famed Cliff Walk and Gilded Age mansions. Realized with help from Newport architecture firm Herk Works, the new-build house channels a seaside home, characterized by sweeping

waterfront views and an effortless flow from one gathering space to the next.

One such space is the Studio Bar, a sultry hangout where guests and locals alike can sip cocktails at the fluted bar or snuggle up in front of the fireplace (a Newport necessity no matter the season). With its eclectic mix of leather and velvet furnishings, the Studio Bar feels like your grandfather’s study, in the best way. The cocktail menu, however, is fully contemporary. Opt for The Gardiner—a punchy blend of Tito’s Vodka, rose hip tea, Prosecco, and lemon—and thank us later.

After drinks, head to the second floor to dine at Flora. Before you open your menu, turn your attention to the portrait behind the bar. It is of the restaurant’s namesake, Flora Payne Whitney, and a re-creation of a 1905 painting Gardiner Cushing made at the request of Flora’s mother, American sculptor and heiress Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney. (Today, you can tour the room in which young Gertrude slept at The Breakers.)

Beyond this artistic element, the name “Flora” embodies the culinary ethos at the center of this coastal Mediterranean restau-

rant. Chef de cuisine Miguel Somoza draws inspiration from his childhood foraging for ingredients in the Spanish countryside to craft gorgeous dishes that at once taste of the Mediterranean and celebrate Rhode Island’s regional ingredients. A highlight from a recent meal was the local yellowfin tuna crudo dressed in a lemon vinaigrette and dotted with capers, chili flakes, olive oil, and Maldon salt. Don’t leave without savoring one of the house-made pastas.

When reserving your seat at Flora, request a window table fronting the harbor and time your meal to coincide with the sunset. As the sky transforms from tranquil blue to electric shades of sherbet, you’ll feel suspended in time and part of Newport both past and present. (gardinerhouse.com) «

Above and right: At Flora, peek at a portrait of Flora Payne Whitney and dine on cuisine that merges the best of the Mediterranean and New England. Below: The Studio Bar boasts a golden ceiling and emerald walls. Bottom right: While each room is unique, they all feature textures and tones inspired by the coast.

FLORIDIANA

GIDDY-UP GETAWAY

OLD FLORIDA AND THE WILD WEST SADDLE UP AT THIS OKEECHOBEE RETREAT

Way out west in the Okeechobee countryside, ranges, bays, and clays await at the OK Corral Gun Club, a premier 356-acre shooting sports club where Southern hospitality and Western flair get the Florida treatment (gators, golf carts, and grasslands, oh my!). While the OK Corral is very much a working gun club with worldclass sporting clay courses, static ranges, and a competition park, you don’t have to be a sharpshooter to hang your cowboy hat here for a spell: it’s a surprisingly charming place to unwind for a weekend, with sunsets that are fiery and golden.

Just a two-and-a-half-hour drive from Miami, the OK Corral Gun Club sits at the center of the Floridian frontier. The setting is rustic but fresh and comfortable, with 24 nicely appointed cabins and just one restaurant on property—a welcome reprieve from decision fatigue. At The Hitching Post, all the certified Angus beef on the menu is pastured on property. The signature smashburger is a must-try, as is the Philly cheesesteak made with shaved prime rib and beef-tallow aioli.

Other accommodation options include an Annex Suite and a few three- to fivebedroom homes for larger groups. There’s

also a General Store and Pro Shop, plus a handful of Seminole chickee huts that pepper the property. A steady stream of members, charities, clubs, and private and public events keep the place humming and the calendar stacked.

If you opt to try your hand at shooting, you can rent everything you need on-site or book a lesson. Either way, be sure to visit the Hollywood-style Cowboy Action Town,

a series of 12 themed buildings—jail, hotel, saloon, bank—where events and competitions play out against an Old West backdrop.

Beyond the bang, stay busy with four pickleball courts and, at night, a massive bonfire at the cabins. For a quick pilgrimage of sorts, Milking R Dairy (makers of Sutton Milk and handcrafted ice cream with a local cult following) is a 25-minute drive away and a worthwhile field trip.

Guests can opt for day passes, but the all-inclusive Shoot, Eat, and Stay package is the best way to settle in for a fun weekend. It includes overnight accommodations, a golf cart to roam the property, a dining credit, and 100 clays. For a date weekend, group getaway, or just something different, the OK Corral presents a less Disney-ified version of River Ranch—rougher around the edges and refreshingly under the radar. HIGH ROAD

BELLA MACCHINA

Ferrari calls the breathtaking shade of powdery baby blue adorning the new 612-horsepower Roma Spider super-convertible “Azzurro La Plata.” Now, driving a Ferrari—any Ferrari—guarantees endless wows, waves, and raised thumbs from fellow motorists. But a Ferrari painted Azzurro La Plata will ramp the adulations to 11. I lost count of the “Cool color, man” or “Love that blue” responses the Roma garnered.

Most new Ferraris come out of the factory painted the iconic Rosso Corsa racing red, also known as “Resale Red.” But a Roma Spider in this softest of soft blues is perfect for a top-down cruise up A1A, aka the Jimmy Buffett Memorial Highway.

This is the first front-engine, soft-top Ferrari to debut since the 365

GTS/4 was introduced in 1969. The company quietly dropped the Roma coupe last year (there’s a new version coming soon), so the Spider convertible now represents the first rung on the Ferrari ownership ladder. But with prices starting at $277,970, it’s hardly a base model.

Here is a different kind of Ferrari than its mid-engined berlinetta brethren, the screaming, hip-high 296 and SF90 and thundering F80. No, the Roma Spider is, to my eyes, the prettiest car Ferrari currently builds, a car that’s more about la dolce vita lifestyle than ultimate performance.

Until the Roma Spider came along, Ferrari had favored metal-roofed retractable hardtop convertibles, like the Portofino and California before it. But for some reason, it decided to go retro with a five-layer canvas roof.

Great decision. At the push of a button, the top descends in a mere 13.5 seconds and at speeds up to 35 mph. Another button levitates a funky wind deflector over the rear seats that does a fine job of quelling in-cabin turbulence. Even at 75 mph on I-95, the Roma keeps bad hair days in check.

Folding the top lets you take in the full acoustic wonder that is the Roma’s twin-turbocharged 3.9-liter V8. It packs the muscle of a team of Clydesdales, cranking out 612 hp and 561 lb-ft of torque, an impressive 80 percent of which is available below 1,900 rpm.

POWER FILE

PRICE: FROM $277,970 ENGINE: 3.9-LITER TWIN-TURBO V8 POWER: 612 HP TORQUE: 561 LB-FT

TRANSMISSION: 8-SPEED DUALCLUTCH AUTOMATIC 0-62: 3.4

SECONDS TOP SPEED: 200 MPH LENGTH/WIDTH: 183/78 INCHES

WEIGHT: 3,800 POUNDS WHY WE LOVE IT: BECAUSE THIS IS SIMPLY THE PRETTIEST, SEXIEST NEW FERRARI MONEY CAN BUY.

Oomph is delivered courtesy of a rear-mounted, 8-speed, dual-clutch transmission controlled automatically or via lovely carbon-fiber paddle shifters. Tap the Start button on the steering wheel, pull back the paddle to engage first gear, and the Roma slingshots away. If you have the need for speed, a full-bore, off-the-line blast would get you from standstill to 62 mph in a heart-palpitating 3.4 seconds and on to an equally heartarresting 200-mph top speed.

But the Spider is content to glide along A1A with just the most sonorous of V8 burbles wafting from that quartet of tail pipes. While neck-snapping performance is just a paddle shift away, I love the smooth-riding, grand-tourer vibe of this roadster.

Part of the joy comes down to the Roma’s laser-precise electric-assist steering, which feels like it’s hardwired to your gray matter. Find yourself a twisty back road—a difficult task in the Sunshine State—and the Spider simply spears around as if it’s running on invisible rails. Freeway on-ramps taken with gusto become Turn Three at Sebring.

Inside, the cabin looks like it came straight out of a Ferragamo design

studio, with its gorgeous leathers, exquisite stitching, and lovely detailing. The chunky steering wheel is a delight to grip and less complex than the helm on the Roma coupe. That being said, the rocker buttons for the turn signals never fail to irritate.

And while there are two teeny seats in the back, no human is ever going to squeeze into them. Best use them as luggage carriers to augment the shoebox of a trunk.

Quibbles aside, this Roma Spider is, without a doubt, my favorite new Ferrari. I love its dual persona of elegant, refined, open-top grand tourer and super-quick, super-agile supercar.

But then again, it had me at Azzurro La Plata. Color me smitten.

CHEF & OWNER, OSTROW BRASSERIE Winner, Best Chef and Best Brunch

What’s your earliest memory of food that made you realize you wanted to be a chef?

Sitting at my grandmother’s table in Paris, dipping challah into her veal jus. That moment made me realize food could be memory, love, and rebellion all in one bite.

What’s a dish you failed at that taught you a big lesson?

A perfect-looking soufflé that collapsed in front of a chef I was trying to impress. It taught me timing is everything, and that ego has no place in the kitchen.

If you weren’t a chef, what do you think you’d be doing?

Probably a filmmaker or a tattoo artist. Something visual, a little punk, full of stories.

If you could only eat one dish for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Steak tartare with a nice frisée and homemade tagliatelle or fries . Late-night fridge raid: what are you hoping is still in there?

Goat cheese, baguette, leftover steak, and some absurdly good mustard. Maybe rosé. Define your cooking style? Bold. Soulful. (ostrowbrasserie.com) —K.D.L.

OWNER, SHORTY’S BAR-B-Q

Winner, Best Barbecue

How many hours are your meats smoked or cooked?

Typically our meats are smoked low and slow—from 4 to 14 hours. We’re all about patience and doing it the right way.

What’s your go-to barbecue style and why?

I’m partial to the traditional Shorty’s style—simple, smoked, and not overly sauced. Let the quality of the meat and the wood speak for themselves.

If you could only eat one kind of barbecue, which kind would it be?

Shorty’s ribs. It’s what we do best—smoked, tender, and the right balance of seasoning and smoke.

What’s your comeback to people who say that Miami isn’t a real barbecue city like Memphis or St. Louis?

Come to Shorty’s and try it for yourself. We’ve been doing barbecue in Miami longer than most of those critics have been alive. Good barbecue doesn’t belong to one region. It’s about passion, process, and patience. (shortys.com) —K.D.L.

Since then, the craveable pastelitos have been made using the same recipe passed down from abuelo to abuelito. Panther was born from husband-and-wife team

Joel and Leticia Pollock’s lifelong love of coffee and a dedication to sourcing top-tier beans from partners worldwide. The name was inspired by the striking animal-centric branding the couple encountered during their South American travels.

“We decided we wanted an animal in our logo, too, and we eventually landed on the panther,” Leticia says.

“Joel’s cousin sketched some options, and we knew we had our name: Panther Coffee.” Much like its feline muse, Panther Coffee’s pours command attention beyond its locations across the city.

“Every coffee is special to us, and every harvest brings something unique,” says Joel. “It’s a dynamic process that keeps us connected to the people and places behind the beans. We don’t box ourselves into a fixed flavor profile—we embrace the individuality of every coffee we work with.”

Q&A NAREN YOUNG

CREATIVE DIRECTOR, SWEET LIBERTY

Winner, Best Happy Hour

What’s special about Sweet Liberty’s happy hour?

We have a rotating menu of cocktails for only $10, which is a steal for the beach. We are also famous for our oyster happy hour where we have plain iced bivalves starting at $1.25, plus a ton of other oyster serves and a thoughtfully curated oysterpairing drink list too.

What’s the most popular drink on the menu?

The Spicy Coconut Margarita because what’s more Miami than that?

Is there a “sleeper” hit on the menu that more patrons should try?

I love our Sangria (available in red, white, or rose) because most versions aren’t elevated and are made with cheap ingredients, but our version is a straight-up crusher. Any twists on a classic cocktail that patrons go crazy for?

People love our Basil Daiquiri because it has some complex herbal and floral notes from Chartreuse and St-Germain and is super refreshing. What cocktail always gets the party started?

The Siesta because it’s pretty and has tequila in it. (mysweetliberty.com) —K.D.L.

How does she see Miami’s art scene? “Fierce, and growing by the minute,” she says, noting that three local artists she’s loving right now are Anastasia Samoylova, Pepe Mar, and Loriel Beltrán. The show, she admits, is a lot of last-minute hustle—and that’s just the way Finn likes it. “We never truly know what Art Basel Miami Beach will look like until just before the doors open. Since purchasing the business, Briansky and his team have refreshed the store’s assortment, to include expanding its truffle collection with flavors like Nutella, marshmallow butterscotch, dulce de leche, and more. Alessandra Esteves

DIRECTOR OF WINE EDUCATION, 305 WINES

Winner, Best Wine Market

How do you help customers choose the right bottle?

Everyone has a different palate and budget; we ask the right questions and guide people. Whether it’s a Tuesdaynight wine or a big important occasion, we’ll find the bottle that fits. Are there particular styles or varietals that feel especially “Miami”?

Miami has always loved bold reds—Napa Cab, Argentinian Malbec—but now we’re seeing more interest in refreshing whites, lighter reds, and sparkling wines. What’s one wine in your shop right now that tastes far more expensive than it is?

The Bideona Rioja is a steal at $22—bright, juicy, and full of character. And the Faiveley Montagny Blanc delivers classic white Burgundy mineral style at a great price. (305wines.com) —K.D.L.

FOUNDER, MIMI YOGA Winner, Best Yoga Studio

What inspired you to start practicing yoga?

After my daughter was born with special needs, we moved to Miami to provide her with the best care we could. I began to experience extreme anxiety at this time, and I felt a calling to try yoga.

What sets your practice apart?

Community, community, community! There are many yoga studios and great teachers in Miami and beyond, but what keeps our students coming back is that we treat everyone who walks through our doors like they are family. What advice would you give to someone starting a yoga practice?

Just show up! Yoga is so much more than being able to touch your toes. It ’s about coming home to yourself and finding inner peace that often can only be experienced on your yoga mat. All you need to be is flexible in your mind, and the rest will follow.

Fast-forward 30 years, and Steven Goldstein is a South Florida sports favorite. He’s the official play-by-play announcer for the Panthers on Scripps Sports, a sports anchor at CBS-4 Miami, the host of the Miami Dolphins pregame show on iHeart Radio, and a play-by-play commentator for FIU college football. With a résumé that crowded, it’s no surprise that Goldstein’s mantra is to never say no. “When people ask me about my success, I look back and know that’s why I’ve made it this far,” he says. To give back, Goldstein helms Goldie’s Gang, the nonprofit he launched in 1999 to provide grants to families who need help funding their children’s sports aspirations. “I feel that I’m living the dream,” Goldstein adds.

GRAFFITI GOURMET

In a neighborhood defined by artistic grit and irreverent style, Shiso doesn’t just fit in—it sets a new standard. This ambitious two-story newcomer channels Wynwood’s visual energy into every corner, from graffiti-tagged beams and sprawling murals to lush greenery and a sculptural, origamiinspired bathroom entryway. (Even the bathrooms themselves are an aesthetic flex, featuring anime and custom works by local artists.)

At the helm is St. Croix–born chef Raheem Sealey, whose menu draws from Japanese techniques, Caribbean soul, and the primal power

of a wood-fire grill. Given full creative control, Sealey’s culinary vision feels as layered and personal as the neighborhood itself. Standouts include brisket nigiri with a kiss of smoke; oxtail udon in a deep, glossy jus; uni-crowned miso cornbread; and a razor-thin sea bass crudo with truffle ponzu. His signature dish, “Shiso Chicken, Please,” presents Cornish hen two ways (halfsmoked, half-fried) alongside barbecue sauce, pickles, and a negi waffle.

The cocktail program, led by mixologist James MacInnes, reads like a passport stamped

with stops in Japan, Italy, Brazil, and Mexico. Clarification, liquid nitrogen, and a sense of play (plus solid ingenuity) drive a lineup that surprises and delights. The Kunsei OldFashioned melds Suntory Toki with smoked brisket and shio kombu, while the Sakerinha refreshes with cachaça, nigori sake, lemongrass shochu, and jasmine tea.

In total, every element at Shiso—from plating to playlist—feels deeply considered. It’s not just dinner; it’s a full-on sensory encounter. (shisomiami.com) —Paul Rubio

Creativity abounds at Wynwood hot spot Shiso, where dishes like the halfsmoked, half-fried “Shiso Chicken, Please” and smoked brisket croquettes match the artsy vibe of the neighborhood.

The concept draws from coastal flavors and Mediterranean classics, served with a breezy confidence that feels right at home in Miami. AVIV

Michael Solomonov’s Aviv brings a thoughtful expression of Israeli cuisine to South Beach, wrapped in an atmosphere that feels both grounded and transportive. Located inside 1 Hotel, the restaurant is as much about setting a tone as serving a meal. The menu balances modern techniques with age-old flavors, expressed via citrus, spice, and smoke. Interiors channel the same sensibility, with textured surfaces, neutral tones, and greenery throughout. With its polished hospitality and low-key confidence, Aviv earns its place among Miami’s most talked-about arrivals. Miami Spice makes the experience more accessible than ever. (avivsb.com)

RAO’S MIAMI BEACH

Housed in the historic St. Moritz tower at Loews, Rao’s Miami Beach exudes the same warm vibe—complete with vintage family photos, leather accents, and a lived-in ease— that has made it one of the country’s most famous restaurants. The menu is also true to its roots. Think timeless Italian-American comfort food: handmade pastas, slow-cooked favorites, and recipes passed down for generations. At Rao’s, it’s less about reinvention and more about staying power. If you frequent New York or Los Angeles, this Miami location offers a welcome touch of nostalgia closer to home. For everyone else, it’s an invitation to experience a classic, no plane ticket required.

3 Earl Grey tea bags

POUR DECISIONS

PRETTY IN PINK

NO OTHER DRINK EVOKES SUMMER FUN WITH A HINT OF GLAMOUR LIKE A CHILLED GLASS OF FRENCH ROSÉ

Fun fact: French adults drink more rosé than white wine. It is estimated that, collectively, they go through more than a billion bottles of rosé every year, making France the world’s biggest consumer of pink wine—quite the national achievement.

To satisfy this thirst, rosé is made all over France. Some of my favorites come from Marsannay in Burgundy and Sancerre in the Loire Valley (no, it’s not all white wine!). Both make complex and fragrant expressions from Pinot Noir. But if there’s one region that has led the charge in quality rosé production, it’s Provence.

This southern region stretches along France’s sun-drenched Mediterranean coast, encompassing towns like Saint-Tropez and Toulon. Its vineyards are often set against backdrops of palm trees, olive groves, and lavender fields. No wonder celebrities like Brad Pitt and George Lucas have rushed to buy wineries there.

global standard for sparkling wine, Provence has

Growers in Provence have gone all in. About 90 percent of Provence’s wine production is pink, making it the only major wine region to specialize in rosé. And it was winemakers from Provence who brought the pale, dry, elegant style that we’ve come to know and love to the global stage. Think strawberry, peach, and watermelon flavors, and a subtly creamy texture. If Champagne has set the global standard for sparkling wine, Provence has done the same for dry rosé. Speaking of Champagne, there’s a rule in my house: always have a bottle in the fridge. You never know when you might need to celebrate. Earlier this year, I led a master class on Provence wines for a group of wine professionals. My fridge has been filled with rosé since, and it’s likely to become a second mainstay. You never know when you might need a pool day, a touch of glamour, or (my personal favorite) a pairing for spicy food. And besides, if the French are drinking it in boatloads, it must be classy. SANCTUARY CHIC

Biscaya Island in Surfside sits in prime position: an enchanting waterfront oasis coveted for its privacy, tropical ambience, and ultra-luxurious vibe. It is here that Nicholas Gennari and Roberto Racy of Miami’s Nar Design Studio designed a custom home to serve as a contemporary sanctuary for the homeowner.

“Our client, a dedicated and busy professional, had a vision for his home that transcended the ordinary,” says Gennari. “He works in a leading role in the high-tech market, so he sought a space where he could relax, recharge, and connect with nature after long, demanding workdays.”

At once a personal wellness retreat and an elegant entertaining space for guests, the residence incorporates a biomimetic spa environment, where nature converges with modern design and sophistication.

In the great room, the design team installed a parametric ceiling inspired by the fluidity of water. The dining room recalls a mystical ce-

note cave with its custom rough-stone wall. “The design of this space is elevated by the refinement in every detail,” explains Racy. “It invites you to dine opulently while surrounded by nature’s allure.”

Racy notes that this project “encapsulates the restorative power of nature, offering a sanctuary that seamlessly blends relaxation with refined contemporary style. It serves as a testament to the importance of crafting homes that elevate our well-being in today’s fast-paced world.” (nardesignstudio.com) —Jeanne DeLathouder

CHIC Changes

EXPERT INSIGHT INTO SMALL INTERIOR UPDATES THAT ARE BIG ON STYLE

When it comes to home decor, sometimes the smallest touches make the biggest impact. Whether it’s swapping out the cabinet hardware in your kitchen, refreshing your bedding, or creating an indoor oasis with some lush greenery, consider stealing some of these styling ideas to effortlessly elevate your space. (alenacapradesigns.com)

COLOR COMBOS

Want to update your living room without changing all the furniture? Try swapping out three things: throw pillows, the area rug, and a few accessories. This will allow you to introduce a new color palette and create a refreshed sense of connection throughout the space. You can even add a small piece of furniture in the new hue, like an ottoman, an accent chair, or a bench.

STYLISH STORAGE

Want the look of a formal entryway, but also need functional storage for shoes? There are many furniture pieces that look like just a cabinet, console table, or bench, but they have hidden shoe storage inside. These stylish dual-function furnishings don’t take up a lot of space, meaning they are perfect for entryways, hallways, or even bedrooms.

LUSH LIVING

BRINGING THE OUTDOORS IN ALWAYS MAKES A SPACE MORE BEAUTIFUL. WHETHER FAUX OR REAL, POPULAR INTERIOR PLANTS LIKE THE WHITE BIRD OF PARADISE, THE FIDDLE LEAF FIG, OR EVEN AN OLIVE TREE WILL NOT ONLY ENRICH A ROOM WITH SOME LUSH GREENERY, BUT THEY ARE ALSO A GREAT WAY TO FILL IN AN EMPTY CORNER OR ADD HEIGHT AND DRAMA.

Walls that WOW

The transformative power of wallpaper is truly incredible. If you want to make a really big change to one accent wall (or even an entire room) in a matter of a few hours, just add a new wall covering. From subtle textures to bold patterns and artistic murals, there is a wallpaper for every design style and color palette. The hardest part? Narrowing down all the amazing options available on the market.

ARTFUL ACCENTS

Changing the hardware on your kitchen and bath cabinetry (or even on a piece of furniture) is a low-commitment swap that yields high-style results. This easy DIY project allows you to experiment with a new finish or style. There are so many stunning choices for decorative hardware—and not just in metallics. Some include a combination of mixed materials, cool shapes, and bright colors.

DREAMY DESIGNS

When it comes to a bedroom refresh, updating your bedding is a great way to bring in color, texture, or pattern. The key to expertly arranging and styling the bed linens? It’s all about thoughtful layering. Start with a crisp sheet set in a high thread count. Next, add a coordinating coverlet or quilt. Fold a duvet or comforter in a contrasting color over the base of the bed. Cover your pillows in shams and then complete the look with either a bolster pillow or a few throw pillows.

ON THE RECORD WITH...

MOISHE MANA

Call his another story of an immigrant rising from humble beginnings. When Moishe Mana arrived in New York City from Tel Aviv in 1983, he couldn’t have imagined the wealth and influence he would amass. Today, he’s the CEO of Mana Common and a billionaire businessman and real estate developer— one of the first to see the potential in what was once a stretch of underused warehouses and vacant lots, transforming it into the art-centric neighborhood of Wynwood. We caught up with Mana to talk about his past, his present, and what’s next for a man who never stops reinventing himself. (manacommon. com) —Kristen Desmond LeFevre

My full name is… Moishe Mana. I grew up in… a poor suburb of Tel Aviv. I came to the United States when… I finished my IDF military service in the early 1980s and felt like there was no future for me in Israel. The transition to moving stateside was… tough but motivating, because I knew failure meant going back to nothing. My first jobs as an immigrant were… as a dishwasher, a pot washer, and a street vendor in New York City. I got the idea to start a moving company when… a construction job I took went unpaid, so I accepted a van as compensation and turned it into a business. That first van became… the foundation for the largest non-union moving company in New York City. I became interested in real estate development in New York City when I saw… people needed storage after moving, which led me to buy buildings in neglected areas. One story about my redevelopment of the Meatpacking District that few people know is… it started as a storage facility in an abandoned building, which evolved into Milk Studios and catalyzed the area’s transformation. I became interested in collecting art when… I worked with artists through my moving company and saw the need for a proper space to support them. My favorite artists to collect are… Vincent van Gogh for his story and legacy, and Banksy for his street influence and voice. My prized art possessions include… Classical Renaissance pieces that reflect depth and humanity, with van Gogh being most special to me. I turned my sights to Miami when… I saw South Beach becoming exclusive and wanted to build an inclusive cultural hub instead. What’s special about Miami is… its role as a geographic and cultural bridge between North America and Latin America. I knew early on that Wynwood would be the next big thing in Miami because… it was broken and forgotten like the Meatpacking District once was and full of untapped potential. People doubted my vision, but… I continued investing in Wynwood with street art, events, music, and fashion, until it grew into what I envisioned. An upcoming

project in Miami that I’m excited about is… The Downtown renaissance with the acquisition of 72 properties in the Flagler District to revive it and make it the coolest neighborhood in America. A common misconception about what I do is… that I’m just in real estate. In reality, I build ecosystems and cultural economies and make a social impact to make Miami a global hub, connecting the Americas and its $1.1 billion economy. My biggest challenge has been… navigating political shifts like the America First Policy, which shut down global opportunities I had spent years building. One question I get asked a lot is… the secret to my success. No secrets: the information on my hard journey is out there for everyone to see. One game you cannot beat me at is… backgammon. I speak with the dice and am unbearable. My family doesn’t want to play with me anymore. If I weren’t doing this, I’d probably be a… writer, philosopher, or filmmaker, because I love to reflect, think, read, and write. If I could give my younger self advice, it would be… buckle your seat belt! Prepare for the wild ride. You are taking off. I probably shouldn’t tell you this, but… If I had known how hard this would be, I might not have started. I am proud that I successfully defeated obstacles and am hopeful the road ahead will be smoother.
