GOOD-NIGHT IRENE Irene O’Brien is a street musician, a busker who can never go home for reasons only she can understand. She regales us with songs; favourites like Come Come Beautiful Eileen, King of the Road and of course Irene Good Night. She tells stories, jokes and gossip from the street and from her years as a travelling musician. We hear about characters such as Donal Shakespeare, who can recite Romeo and Juliet like a shopping list, Boyle from Boyle (the Joe Dolan of Two Mile Borris), Callaghan, the runaway chemist and Miss Reidy who has twelve gins a day, one in each pub she visits.
Junction Festival (Dir: David Teevan)
Julie Sharkey’s Goodnight Irene is a charming, moving and thoroughly entertaining piece of theatre. Sharkey’s delivery is so natural and her plucky spirit so infectious that the audience are entranced, while the pieces undercurrent of an unspoken sadness lingers.
Boyle Arts Festival (Dir: Christine Kelly)
The audience were captivated by Julie’s engaging performance, experiencing laughter and tears. Definitely recommended. BOOK NOW TO AVOID DISAPPOINTMENT**
