Marines have been known to uphold the highest moral character with or without having their uniforms on. From that, their foundation of Honor, Courage and Commitment becomes indisputable and very evident in every single Marine.The three Corps Values: honor, courage, commitment make up the bedrock of the character of each individual Marine. This is why they give us little red cards to put in our wallets, and on that card it says that Marines obey the law, lead by example, respect themselves and others, maintain a high standards of integrity, support and defend the constitution, uphold special trust and confidence, pace faith and honor above all else, and to honor fellow Marines, the Corps,country, and family. When it comes to being a person in general one can never add enough to himself to better their character in the Marine Corps we are given many tools for that. The leadership traits, leadership principles you name it, if it has anything to do with being a better person the Corps has either started it or adopted it. although you may get tired of hearing stupid little acronyms about tying buckles there actually is truth to the matter the things set in place to better us are exactly that tools. You dont have to memorize them or live by every single one just keep some of them in mind when making decisions you will definitely make a somewhat honest man of yourself if you

Organizational Ethics and Culture

Understanding the ethical "rules" within the United States Navy is a simplistic concept. Ethics are instilled in the earliest of Sailors from the moment one stands tall to recite the oath of enlistment at the military entrance–processing center. This oath of enlistment means that you are committed to the United States Navy and the core values that are instilled in every Sailor that has came before you for hundreds of years. I have an example of how these core values are truly with–in my believes, on February 23, 2008 while in the Newport News shipyard, I was on the berthing barge around 0800 in the morning when I heard a splash in the water coming from the ship next to us. Unfortunately, the splash was a shipyard worker who had fallen though a plenum "This is a hole in the ship used for the mooring line" Without hesitating I took my boots of and jump in. not knowing the water temperature was 36 degrees. I swam 80 of the 100 yards to get to him and all a can see the entire time was this man struggling for his life going up and down in the water trying to stay on top. Around ten yards away I look into his eyes just before he went down for the last time. I made it to the location he was at and began to swim down to try and locate him but to no avail the water in that area was so murky and the visibility was around two feet in front of me. Devastated that I was unable to save him and the adrenalin that was going through me keep me from realizing that I was now in big trouble myself, the temperature of the water was now effecting my body and I started to loose all feeling from my neck to my feet.
