My name is Luna and I’m a super sweet, 2-year-old German Shepherd and Husky mix girl. Recently, I had my heart broken. You see, I once was part of a wonderful family. They loved me and I loved them immensely. In my beloved family, there is a very ill little girl. I bonded with everyone, but most especially with that little girl. Sadly, she was hospitalized for an extended period of time and I missed her terribly. When she finally came home, I felt the need to love and protect her, so whenever someone wanted to attend to her, I would lay on her to keep her safe. I was never aggressive about it but, because of her fragile nature, everyone was afraid I would unintentionally hurt her. With lots of tears, I was returned to the shelter. Now, instead of sleeping in bed with my much loved family, I’m in a kennel.

I am vaccinated, house-trained, leash-trained and spayed. I love treats, desire adventure and enjoy obedience training. I know several commands and am eager to please you. All kinds of toys are great, but squeaky toys are my favorite. As an ideal companion, I genuinely adore people. I get along with other dogs, but my play style may be too dominant for some. The kind folks who stopped for me weren’t even sure I was alive, but my grateful eyes looking into theirs was all they needed to scoop me up and appeal for help on social media. My new pals at Pender County Humane Society answered the call! They took me in, had me seen by a veterinarian, and now I’m well on the way to a full recovery. Mark Your Calendars for Paws Place’s Raise The Ruff 2024 Casino Night!

On Saturday, March 9, 2024, please place a bet for pets and attend Paws Place Dog Rescue’s Raise The Ruff 2024 Casino Night Fundraiser! This fun event will be held at the Hotel Ballast in Wilmington from 7pm to 10pm. Tickets are $125/ticket or $1,000/10 which includes fun money for gaming tables (Texas Hold ’em, Blackjack, Roulette and more) as well as appetizers, a cash bar, photo booth and silent auctions. Please purchase your tickets in advance at www.pawsplace.org. This is one of Paws Place’s biggest fundraisers of the year and helps dogs who are being cared for at the shelter while awaiting loving, forever homes. Not only will it be a great night of casino games, it will also be a celebration of Paws Place Dog Rescue’s 25th Anniversary! So come have fun, and help the dogs! It’s Playtime at FURR’s Kitty Happy Hour

Every morning and afternoon (flexible), you are invited to come enjoy some playtime with the kitties at Feline Urgent Rescue and Rehab (FURR) at its Hampstead location. Just a few hours once or twice a week can help newly rescued felines see life differently. Helping them learn to trust, love and get ready for adoption not only mends their hearts but yours, too! Volunteers must be 18-years or older, have a car, love cats, be reference checked and dependable! Think about the reward you will get knowing you are helping these amazing rescues find a "furrever" home! It is a wonderful pay-it-forward feeling! Please call 864-483-2444 to participate!

Need Assistance Feeding Your Pets?

Pender County Humane Society’s Pet Food Pantry can help! The Pet Food Pantry has both dog and cat food available FREE of charge. Anyone in need of food will be asked to fill out a brief form and show proof of income or proof of government assistance. Monty’s Home Needs Volunteers!

Do you feel a tug at your heartstrings when reading about dogs in need of help? Do you wish you could help, but you're already so busy? BUT WAIT...did you know that by volunteering just 3½ hours once a month, you could be helping rescue dogs and make a big difference? It's true and your help is really needed!

Monty's Home is a rescue group that rescues dogs from the Pender County Shelter approximately every other month. The dogs are temperament tested before being placed in the Pender County Prison in Burgaw. Once there, inmate trainers work with basic obedience and socialization to prepare the dogs to be wonderful pets; and they need YOU to help.

Monty’s Home has a thrift shop in Burgaw. The items are donated and the proceeds are used to support the dogs while in their care. The shop is open to the public on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. There are two 3½ hour shifts each day. Might you be available to take a shift once a month? Volunteer applications are at www.MontysHome.org under the ‘How You Can Help’ tab. Hi there, I’m Hogan and I’m 4-years-old and weigh 60 pounds. I am good with other dogs and I don't pay much attention to cats. I came from a rural shelter where I was very thin, heartworm positive and needed a miracle. Now, I am healthy, neutered, vaccinated and house-trained. I also went to a dog obedience school for 8-weeks where I learned all kinds of things. I am a big ol’ goofball with long legs and I know the following commands: sit, down, place, and come. I am looking for a home that will continue the training I received. I would love a family with a fenced yard and other dogs to play with but no young human kids. ▲I’m Windsor, a large Corn Snake with a partial lower jaw. I’m not sure how my jaw got like this but with proper care, it won't be a problem. I will need cream put on it often and I will need to eat several smaller mice at a time. I’m well-handled and although I don’t love having my mouth touched, I don’t bite. ♥

►I’m Dottie and I’m about 1 to 2-years of age. I’m not a big eater but I don’t seem to have any health issues that would cause a lack of appetite. I’m still trying to discover what insect is my favorite. I’m not used to much handling, so I can be squirmy but I’ll get more used to it with time. ♥
