ABOUT THE PUBLISHER Darden Publishing Quality publications since 1993

Celebrating Over 30 Years of Serving Hampton Roads Darden Publishing is locally owned by Paul Quillin Darden, a native of Newport News, Virginia with a BSBA degree from Christopher Newport College and the College of William and Mary. He is a recognized award recipient and active leader in the community. As a life-long Hampton Roads resident, he continues to marvel at the infinite variety of businesses, schools, cultural and recreational facilities and programs that are available with new facilities emerging daily. Our cities and counties are geographically so close that almost any event, business, community center or school can be quickly reached throughout Hampton Roads. More important is our unity of spirit and development. All of the localities are deeply committed to diversifying and improving our economy, schools, cultural attractions, recreational areas and neighborhoods. This commitment can only enhance our quality of life. Our business and civic leaders are optimistic about the future, and together, we have a strong bond to promote growth and stability in the marketplace.

Email: Ceo.Publisher@verizon.net Web Site: CoastalVirginia.net | CoastalVirginia-HamptonRoads.com | DardenPublishing.net Ad Set-up Guide:

We only accept high-resolution CMYK color in JPG or PDF formats. All fonts should be embedded or created to outlines. Make sure pdf files are created using the Press Quality setting.

Image Resolution:

• Color and grayscale images should be at least 300 dpi. • Line-art images should be at least 1200 dpi.

Lines/Rules:

These should never be thinner than 0.5 point. “Hairline” rules should never be used.

Overprints:

Avoid setting items to overprint in your native application files, since this information can be carried into the PDF with unexpected results — such as text that is very hard to read, or white text that disappears completely on a colored background. Before submitting your files, be sure to review the PDFs with Overprint Preview turned on in Acrobat.

Color:

• Never use any color space other than CMYK. DO NOT use RGB, LAB, ICC based profiles or RGB ICC profiles. Doing so may cause color shifts upon conversion to CMYK. • B/W images should be in grayscale and contain no cyan, magenta or yellow when separated. • Spot color should be converted to CMYK if possible or we can convert - some color shift may occur.

Rich Black:

We recommend 100% Black, 50% Cyan, 40% Magenta, and 40% Yellow. Do not use “Registration” for rich black.

Text:

• Rich black or 4-color black should never be used for text. • Text printing in a single process color should be no smaller than 4 point. • Text printing in 2 or more process colors should be at least 6 point. • Small type and fine serifs should not be used for reversed text.

Total Ink Coverage:

It is best to keep the total ink at 300% or less, using GCR with medium Black Generation.

Crop Marks:

We do not require crop marks on supplied PDFs. If you do include crop marks, make sure they (as well as any color bars or registration marks) are at least .25” outside the trim so they do not show in the printed copy or interfere with marks adding in the impositions.

Trap:

Please turn off any trap settings in your native application.

Bleeds:

Full page ads that bleed should have a 1/8 (0.125”) bleed on all four sides. All images and text on a full bleed ad should be kept at 1/4 (0.25”) from trim.

Ad Submissions:

INTERNET SUBMISSIONS: Email artwork to Darden.Publishing@verizon.net. LARGE FILES can be posted on our FTP SITE if you have a Hightail account. They are free to join: www.hightail.com We cannot make edits to PDF files.
