Outdoor Gathering Space

The outdoor space located on the roof deck of the first floor allows for the "oasis" feeling the church once brought to the city of Rochester. This space intends to bring the community together with hopes to fill the void left by the once-occupied church. The upper community garden will allow visitors to come together and grow vegetables and more as a community. The bottom pavilion-like structure offers a space in which one can feel at ease while gathering views of the city.

Furniture and Finishes

Most of the materials used within the space are neutrals and green to enhance the feeling of nature even within the spaces. The materials are sourced from recycled materials and sustainable methods.

Conclusion
The concept for the reenvisioned St. Joseph's Church is more than just creating a space for people to drop off their recyclables and purchase sustainable apparel. It is about promoting the message that it is never too early or too late to recycle and that everyone can have an impact on the world. The exhibit in the space will educate people, especially the younger generation, about the importance of making sustainable choices and taking care of the environment. Parents and educators will also have the opportunity to bring their class students to learn from the exhibit.
The space plan for the church includes a retail experience on the top floor where people can drop off their recyclables and purchase Recover's sustainable apparel. The bottom floor will serve as the entrance and check-out kiosk. The exhibit will be located to the right of the entrance, providing visitors with information and statistics on the impact of pollution and garbage on the planet. Behind the exhibit will be a multipurpose gathering space that can be used for events such as weddings. Through this reenvisioning, St. Joseph's Church will once again serve as a place of hope and positivity for the people of Rochester. In the same way, Recover gives purpose to old water bottles by turning them into apparel, the space plan for St. Joseph's Church will give new purpose to the historic structure, promoting sustainability and environmental responsibility.
