Programming/ Space Planning
by patelp6248

The goal of the space plan is to create a retail experience within the church building. The top floor will serve as a drop-off location for recyclable items and will showcase apparel made by Recover. The entrance and check-out kiosk will be located on the bottom floor. Adjacent to the entrance, there will be an exhibit that presents educational aspects of the design. The exhibit will feature information and statistics about the pollution and waste that remains on our planet. The exhibit will element will also allow visitors to create their own pieces of art through recyclables available on-site and display them within the space. Beyond the exhibit, there will be a multipurpose gathering space created by many planned elements located on the roof deck and outside.

Zoning
Upon entrance into the space, you are greeted with a retail desk and a seating area. From here you are directed toward the stairs or elevator that take you to the second floor where you can purchase Recover apparel.

Upon entering the retail space you are exposed to 4 interactive displays that allow you to learn and play games about recycling and current challenges. This space further expands into a studio space where informative sessions and gatherings can take place. This space also allows you to create your own artwork through recyclables available on-site. This work can then be placed on the pin-up board available.
The retail space features a fully recycled pice of work made of recycled wood and plastics. There are also many apparel items available for purchase.
The outdoor area features on the roof deck allow visitors to gather and host events. This area is intended to get the user to feel more connected to nature and understand how important it is.
Exhibition Break-Down

For the exhibition, the initial idea was to make a studio within the existing footprint. This studio would have allowed people to go inside and make artwork from recyclables. This idea ended up being unachievable because of the lack of space allocated. For the exhibition now, there are 4 displays that visitors can interact with. These displays are intended to spread awareness and educate on how we can mitigate our pollution habits. These displays offer games and images to further aid in educating visitors on the dilemma.

The exhibition then leads to a space with freestanding pin-up boards where visitors can pin their work for display. This work is created in the meeting space located adjacent to the displays.
